Oracle User Licensing

Hi,
Does anyone can help us out with Oracle User Licensing.
We have most of the users as iExpense user or requisition users, means they use oracle only for entering their expense report or creating requisition. Does anybody have clarity that whether we still need oracle license for them?
Or is their any mini/small kind of license for these group of employees?
Say in a company of 5000 employees, only 200 uses oracle but do we need to buy lincese for all 5000, since we have to provide them iexpense responsibility for their expense report?
Any clarification on this matter is highly appreciated.
Thanks,

Thanks Srini for your quick reply.
Before we go to Sales rep, we wanted to see if some companies have negotiated for iExpense user or temp user rates.
It will not make sense to buy the licence for 5000 users when only 200 are active users and 4800 are only iexpense or requisition users.
If we ask this question to oracle rep, they are bound to try to sell the full license to us.
Have you heard of situation like us anytime?

  • Oracle database Named User License Question

Oracle database Standard Edition ONE licensing has this requirement:
    Maximum of 2 socket server
    Minimum of 5 user licenses.
How are these 5 named user licenses calculated ?
    1) Does it depend on how many computers are connecting to the database ?
    2) Can we have application installed on 7 computers, but concurrently only 5 client computers will be connected to the database ?
    3) Are these named user plus licenses floating ?

  • Do Siebel Remote Users need an Oracle database license?

the subject says it all ...
Since Remote is using Sybase, I wonder whether a Oracle Client license is needed for remote only users.

I assume that the remote users will sync from time to time.
I also assume that you are running the server on Oracle DB.
That means that the users still need to have a login on the Oracle DB.
So depending on the terms of your Oracle contract (like named users or concurrent users), you have to count them in the license cost of the Oracle DB.

  • URGENT: Oracle 10g License Purchase Issue

    Dear All,
I have a small environment of around 50 desktops with Compaq Proliant Server. The Server machines are normally coming with dual processor. Now I am looking for Oracle Processor Based license as we are going to deploy our in-house built application (in D2K) there. I want to purchase processor-based license instead of per user base license keeping in view our possible future expansion. Due to my Server machine that has two processors, I have to purchase two Oracle 10g processor based licenses that cost us too much.
Can I use one processor-based license for my Server Machine? Kindly advise.
    Thanks
    Zia

    Hi Yoann,
Thanks for response, actually we have recently purchased that Server machine and now a days every server machine is coming with dual processor. So, offcourse we have paid for that but in Oracle case, they are charging per CPU that is why it is becoming double cost for me.
Anyway I have no idea about it that is why im asking the legal issues over it if it is illigle then I have to go for per user licenses or licenses for two CPUs. Thanks
    Zia

  • Oracle Lite licensing

I would like to know if buying oracle lite licenses for our remote users than I have to pay the same number of licenses for Enterprise database server which synchronizes data with Olite via Mobile Server. For example : With 1000 remote users (with 1000 Olite licenses) have I to pay also unlimited enterprise database license, or I can pay only one enterprise license or nothing ?
    Thanks for the attention.

    Hi,
Related to Oracle Lite you need to license:
    - the Oracle Lite Mobile Server
    - the Oracle Lite client (for each device)
If you want to have an aproach check any online store of Oracle, but anyway you will have to contact an Oracle Partner for licensing, discounts, etc... if your partner know about mobile ;-)

  • Named User Licensing by Developer or Emailed User getting report?

If we get named user licenses for BI Publisher for use against custom tables,
so 5 users can log in and build/run reports...
.. and if those users schedule reports with different parameters,
and the report outputs are emailed daily to 20 other folk as PDFs
( who never go to BI Publisher web page or log into BI Publisher )...
... does Oracle count this as requiring 5 named users or 25 named users?
Someone is telling me it's 25 named licenses we'd need?
    TIA
    Karl

    Hi,
Did you ever find an answer on this?
I'm currently investigating a prospective use of BI Publisher, and this would make a significant difference as to my recommendation to implement it or not...

  • Oracle Client License

When a client license is purchased, does this allow the owner of the license to load and use any and all of the client code on the CD (including sqlplus, Net8, admin tools, etc)? In my case, my customer has purchased the 8.1.6 NT Client and has a database server on a Sun machine.

First, there is no such thing (at present) as a concurrent user license for Oracle. There may have been such a thing at some point in time-- are you an old customer with some sort of grandfathered licensing scheme?
Oracle today, and for the past few years, has licensed their software on a per processor basis or on a per named user basis. A named user is a physical human being that is authorized to access the database, directly or via an application. If you are installing software on 100 desktop machines, I would suspect there are at least 100 human beings that will be accessing the database, hence the need for 100 named user licenses. At that point, you may be better off getting a processor license for the server.

  • Oracle 8i License

    Hi,
We are current using a 2-tier system with Oracle 8i Database, and we are going to replicate this system to another company without any changes.
May I know is there purchase any license for the Oracle 8i Database, thanks.
    Tony

Both sites must have the Oracle Database licensed (by Users or Processor counts).
Back sometime in V7, "Distirbuted Databases" or "Replication" may have been an Option.
But since 8i or 8.0, it is a "feature" of the Enterprise Edition. (Basic Replication -- simple Materialized Views has been available even in the Standard Edition).

  • Oracle DB licensing for APEX applications

    Scenario:
Currently we use Oracle EE 10g with an intranet application system(using oracle technology stack) and let's say the # of named users are' X'. We are considering using APEX for a customer faced application so that customers can view their information online. The # of customers that use the APEX based application would be 5000.We are planning to go for custom authentication where by customers register themselves and use e-mail id as their userid.
    Questions:
    1. I was told that we could create a generic user for our customer(s) so that they could all log into the database
as one named user so that the # of named users are X+1. Hence it just requires an additional named user license. If so, how that generic user works?
    2. With one application user with multiple connections, how does the licensing model differs to the one that we currently have?
    3. Using APEX, if an application(public user) is deployed in production and public(unlimited # of users) access the application, how does the licensing for Oracle database affects. Do we need to go by processor based licensing? Is so, it is very expensive and could be cost prohibitive. Is there any cost effective solution?
I have gone through the following thread Re: How is an Apex solution priced if one is using standard 11g? However, I am looking for a specific answers my questions above.
    Thanks in advance.

John is correct. Named user has NOTHING to do with database users / schemas. Just because your whole app runs as one schema does not mean you only need one named user. Named users are people, no matter how they connect. As John stated, if you have an additional 5,000 users, you'll need to up your named-user licensing by 5,000. However, per-CPU licensing is probably much more cost-effective with those numbers.
As for more cost-effective options, there are several. It might be much cheaper to use a cheaper version of the database on a different machine. You could take a look at Standard Edition (SE), Standard Edition One, or even XE (free). It all depends on what features you need.
Since you are going from Intranet to Internet, make sure you consider the security implications carefully. At the very least I would make sure the HTTP Server is NOT on the same machine as the Database. I would put the HTTP Server in your DMZ and your Database either fully inside your intranet or at least a behind a second firewall. You should probably review "Project Lockdown" for more details:

  • Oracle client licensing info

    Hello All,
I am looking for Oracle client license cost per user.I could not find it in Oracle Technology Global Price list. Please advice.
    Thank you,
    Aditya

Yes, actual client software that justs lets an application connect to Oracle is free as opposed to a specific Oracle product that run in client/server format. What you license the the connection itself, either by named user or CPU count on database server. So when the client software makes a connection that is what you pay for, not the client software itself.
There should be a license file included in the client download which can be found on-line.

  • Oracle DB license on cloud hosting provider

    Hello,
one of our customers have a valid license for their onsite application. Now, they want to transfer this application to a cloud provider (not Azure not Amazon) and we wonder if the license will be still valid or not.
I have tried to find something about this, but it's still not clear for me (license *all* the hosts of the provider for a small application it just doesnt make sense). It could be valid in case of named-user licensing , and not per-CPU licensing?
Also, we wil consider in the future to move the application into a kind-of-SaaS format. This is, a dedicated virtual server on a hosting provider (different than the big ones) but this server only dedicated for one customer. Each customer would have their own virtual server. How should we license the databse? per-user o per-cpu?
    Thank you very much

The existing license will probably still be 'valid' but most likely insufficient to cover the requirement. If it's not Azure or Amazon (i.e. not one of Oracle's 'Authorized Cloud Environments' (by the way, where is Oracle Cloud??)) then you / your customer will struggle. It'll be a case of licensing every physical server that makes up the cloud. I agree, this does not make sense, but this is what would happen. See here
Named User license, assuming DBEE, would require minimums based on hardware so this doesn't help you: if the cloud provider adds another server to the environment there would be an automatic need to increase licensing. This is very risky. Consider DBSE, if at all possible (Named User Plus licenses for DBSE are NOT based on hardware and are considerably cheaper than DBEE).
For your KoSaaS (that's another new one for the acronym list!), ignore the virtual servers; Oracle is only interested in physical servers. Named User Plus or Processor really boils down to how 'countable' the users at the client-end actually are. For the avoidance of any potential non-compliance, I'd strongly recommend Processor unless you can guarantee Named User Plus license is equal to or greater than the number of Named User Plus. See here. You also need to consider hosting rights, if you are providing the license-there are consequences of someone else using 'your' Oracle software for their business benefit.
I have to base my answer on assumptions and standard T&Cs etc; this response is supplied without detailed knowledge of your situation or requirements.

In general for the same platform you shoud have either processor based licensing or named user licensing but not both accord to Software Investment Guide page 8 http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/pricing/sig-070616.pdf.
But it is always better to first read your license agreement and then to contact the related vendor.
