Oracle vm 3.1.1 ( kernel 2.6.39-200.1.9.el5uek ) : Live migration breaks

Hello,
we are upgrading with last update of OVS the servers.. After we upgraded one server (called A) from 2.6.39-200.1.1.el5uek to 2.6.39-200.1.9.el5uek with certified yum repository from Oracle, the live migration not working anymore in correct mode.
If I will migrate one guest from another server to server A or vice versa , the results are the same, the 3%-10% of packets dropped. Is it a normal behaviour , if the kernel are different ? Or are this kernel/driver/xen bugged ?
Obviously the version of OVS are always 3.1.1 and the oracle vm the 3.1.1 build 478, and previously the live migration always worked well. No errors are visible and the job gone well.
Kind Regards

I try to migrate with xm command but the problem not disappear .
The xm command not give any result code. it finished correctly, by the way or we lost 3-10% of packets or stop pinging .
[root@******** ~]# xm migrate -l ****UUID*** ****SERVER_OVS_NAME***
[root@******** ~]# echo $?
0
Now the server have both the new kernel, but it continues to have the problem. The strange thing is that if you return to previous server OVS, the pinging restart, sometime.

Pls let me know wat version of SAP GUI can i use for "SAP BW 3.5 on linux RHEL 4 oracle 10.2.0.2 & kernel 6.40" and where can i find it in service market place.
    Thanks in advance.

    use my links:
    software is located at ftp://ftp.sap.com/pub/sapgui/win/640/compilation5
    patch is at ftp://ftp.sap.com/pub/sapgui/win/640/patches
in summary you need to download and install these components in this order:
    1. ftp://ftp.sap.com/pub/sapgui/win/640/compilation5/50078731_4.zip
    2. ftp://ftp.sap.com/pub/sapgui/win/640/patches/gui640_26-10001615.exe
    3. ftp://ftp.sap.com/pub/sapgui/win/640/patches/bw350_12-10001615.exe
so, you install SAPGUI, patch SAPGUI, patch BW add-on from SAPGUI.
about your 23/24 patch question, you only need to install the latest, so, that would be patch 24 in your case... but you should install the latest one which in patch 26. use my links!

  • Oracle VM Storage live Migration

    Good Morning,
i am very new to Oracle VM. But i used to work a lot with other virtualization "Engines".
Now i have got set a a new OVM Cluster. with 2 OVM Server (2.2). With SAN .
So i got 2 SAN LUNS clustered over the 2 OVM Servers.
I used to have Storage live Migration (Storage Vmotion) but here i cant find anything.
In Cirtix i know there is a way (xe ). But there is no xe on OVM.
But i need to move mv VM-Guest from SAN (LUN1) to LUN2....
Is there a way to do it on OVM to (without stopping the VM Guest)?
    Thanks a lot!

Yes there is (sort of, unsupported):

  • Live migration from oracle 8.0.3.0.0 to oracle 10g

    Hello everyone,
I have Oracle 8.0.3.0.0 running on Windows NT platform. I wish to migrate from Oracle 8.0.3.0.0 to Oracle 10g. And I wish to do it without shutting down my Oracle 8 server. Sort of live migration. Since transaction rate is very high. And putting down the server would mean hanging up whole work. Is it possible. If yes what all hardware and software requirements are there? Or Import and Export is the only option,

  • Oracle 10g on solaris 10 : kernel parameter warning

I am installing oracle 10g on Solaris 10.
I have a warning on kernel parameter missing (shminfo_shmmax for example) during the system check.
I understood that with the 10 version of solaris these parameters are replaced by ressources control and I have checked them. They are correctly setted.
Need I do something before continue the install to release the warning or can I bypass this issue and continue the install as I have no warning ?
    Thanks for your answers.
    Sorry for my english.

You are right. Since Solaris 10 kernel parameters settings in /etc/system is obsolete and some parameters are deprecated.
The steps how to configure required parameters you can find in my paper (step #1.): http://ivan.kartik.sk/oracle/install_ora10gR2_solaris.html
I bypass this issue and continue the install as I have no warning You can safely bypass this issue during installation process but you should set these parameters after installation.

When u change priority it will use large chunk of memory for high Priority or consult ur sys admin for CPU load balancing. CPU load balancing can be done through some utilities also.
Some times changing priority works for me.

Does anybody know what version of glibc library do I need to

Note don't downgrade the GLIBC because you system become unstable. There are workarounds for solving of errors on systems with new GLIBC.

  • Oracle PW getting Locked + ABAP Kernel Update through the JSPM

    Hi Gurus,
    #1
After resetting the PW ( ABAP + JAVA System ) at  ABAP Side ( SU01 ) and at the Config Tool Secure Store Level + Restart the SDM Server THEN : first time
I am able to connect to DB for ConfigTool and I am also Able to Connect to JSPM, Change the PW and then for the Next Time( even though no changes made to SAPSR3DB ) the Oracle User SAPSR3DB Acc gets locked again - immediately and o repeated bases eventhough it is unlocked at the DB Level !!!
Being ABAP + JAVA Is there anything else I need to do while I reset the  PW of J2EE Admin ?
I have referred the notes 701654, 669848 and as it is ABAP+JAVA I don'e need to go for SAP* Emergency User Activation.
    #2
Can we update the ABAP Kernel ( CAR Files ) through the JSPM ?
Your inputs are very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Best Regards,
    - Rupen

    Hello,
I think JSPM can be used to update only the support packs and not SAP Kernel.
    Also,
In the Oracle directory, there is a script which changes the database password.
    Don't recollect the name though.

  • Oracle 8i  and 2.4 Kernel?

    Hi,
    I'm planning to install Oracle8i for a class. I have a box running 2.4.18
The printed installation guide and the HOWTO both recommend kernel "2.2 or higher".
That sounds like any Kernel 2.4 may be ok, but both references are rather dated...
Before I start, has anybody had sucess with this combination?
    any help would be appreciated,
    Jon

Yes, I'm using RH7.1 and kernel 2.4.17/2.4.18 with Oracle 8.1.7 Everything works fine. As I know, there are some reccomendation to use 2.4.18 or higher because of kernel from 2.4.18 works with VM more effective. I think, you may use 2.4.18 without any warnings.

  • Are those Oracle threads "user threads" or "kernel threads"?

    Hi,
As you know Oracle's architecture under windows OS is different from Unix/Linux and there is only one process (oracle.exe) and DBWr,LGWr and other pieces of instance implemented by threads whitin that process.
I want to know if these threads are user mode threads or kernel mode threads?
    -Thanks

    varun81 wrote:
OK you have said don't even think of updating these tables directly... May i know why are you saying that.Among other reasons, Oracle disallows updates to the data dictionary and you render your database unsupported as soon as you try. Plus, a lot of what needs to be updated are memory structures that Oracle happens to expose read-only views of. And the set of objects that are affected will potentially change across releases/ patches/ etc.
Beyond that, what possible reason could you have for wanting to update dozens of objects to add a user? The CREATE USER statement is a far better interface for your application.

  • Live migration (Data transfer) from MS-Acess to Oracle? please look.

    Dear Members,
we have our buses GPS system installed, the application gives data in to MS-Access. based on satellite movement once it catches our devices installed in Buses it produces a current position record the current place (GPS software used world places and give names of each small town),speed, etc there is upto 10 columns.
i'm looking for the possibility of extracting two fields from that Ms-access table current place, speed into my Oracle database, that should be live transfer, means when ever a record stores into Ms-access i want this to be saved in Oracle too.
actually they have a option SQL-server too, but i dont want to go SQL Server and already we are using Oracle 8 for all other operations. they (GPS software company)dont have an option or drivers to be integrated to Oracle.
    Please.. any ideas..
    thanks in advance

If there is no primary key and no timestamp, I don't know how you would go about pulling only new records cheaply. The only thing I could think of would be to have a where not exists clause in the select statement, i.e.
    SELECT access.column1, access.column2
      FROM tableName@AccessDatabase access
    WHERE NOT EXISTS (
        SELECT orcl.column1
          FROM oracleTableName orcl
         WHERE orcl.column1 = access.column1
AND orcl.column2 = access.column2 )which would obviously be an expensive query to issue repeatedly. Can you add a timestamp or some such to the Access table?

[Feb 18, 2012 8:39:08 AM]    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------There were errors with the file verification after the copy , for some reason. I don't know why it would have coughed on the two files oraagent.bin and oracleacfs.ko, but Oracle Support and google seaches didn't come up with anything. I plan to manually try an opatch apply instead of the oaptch auto, but while I do so, does anybody have clues for correctly applying this PSU?

To update this thread, I ended up speaking to Oracle Support on this. It turned out that one of the prerequisites in the README was the culprit:
2.1.4 Unzipping the PatchThe patch application requires explicit user actions to run 'opatch auto' command on each node of Oracle clusterware. So, it is recommended that you download and unzip the patch in a shared location to be able to access it from any node in the cluster and then as the Grid home owner execute the unzip command. To prevent installation failures, this location should be an empty directory.
    Note:
Do not unzip the patch in the top level /tmp directory.
The unzipped patch location should have read permission for ORA_INSTALL group in order to patch Oracle homes owned by different owners. The ORA_INSTALL group is the primary group of the user who owns the GI home or the group owner of the Oracle central inventory.>
In my example, I had unzipped to /tmp. However, the resulting error message stack didn't really point that out.
When I double-checked the README and tried again from /home/oracle/patches/p13348650 instead, it worked. It doesn't leave me with a confident feeling, more just relief. On a related note (and the entire reason for me patching to 11.2.0.3.1), ACFS filesystems ARE supported now under Oracle 5 update 7 with the 2.6.32-200.13.1.el5uek kernel (you had to really dig through the matrix in 1369107.1). Had this not worked, I would had to fail back to the non-UEK kernel to achieve ACFS.

  • Redhat linux 6 VM - stop and  restart

    Hi,
I've installed new HVM - Redhat Linux 6, standard installation. I have the problem with stop and restart initiated from the OVM console. Job is running, but the OS inside VM doesn't start the shutdown process.
For example another VM running Oracle Linux 6 works. The same problem is with the restart and live migration - both works for Oracle Linux, but redhat no.
Do you have an idea what are the requirements for stopping and restarting the VM from OVM console?

    DN,
    I take all your questions, don't I?
Anyhow, this command adds your Report Server to the Oracle Process Manager and Notification Server's (opmn) and Enterprise Control:
    $OH/bin/addNewServerTarget.sh reports_server_name
After that your Reports server will be started and stopped whenever you issue "opmnctl startall / stopall". Issue a opmnctl reload after running that script, or opmnctl restart.
You can also start and stop it individual with: (the choice is yours)
    opmnctl startproc ias-component=reports_server_name
    opmnctl stopproc ias-component=reports_server_name
    opmnctl startproc process-type=reports_server_name
    opmnctl stopproc process-type=reports_server_name
    Check status with:
    opmnctl status
