Oracle VM 3.1 Server automatically reboots after - stopping it
When I try to stop my OVM 3.1 server, using shutdown, or init 0 the server stops, but automatically boots again....
Anyone run into the same problem?
Thanks for all your suggestions

The OVM server? Yes OVM Server :)
I've not seen this before. It could be that the hardware doesn't support the poweroff signal from the OS. Although I'm not sure if it is that much of an issue, as you rarely turn off / on the OVM servers themselves. You can easily power it off if it does a reset not a poweroff. The reboots after "init 0" disappeared once after I added a third NIC to my box, and dedicated it for virtual machines
ie, my Windows 7 box, on which I setup the entire VM infrastructure using VirtualBox has 3 NICs. Two for the VM Server, and the third one for the VM Manager.
The second NIC with VM Server configured to handle the traffic from Virtual Machines, isolating the 1st NIC for all other VM Server traffic. No more rebooting with VM Server and always shuts down with a "init 0"
Hope this info is useful for few others out there
regards,
raj
Adding something I missed with last post
Following sequence is always used to shutdown the VM Server as my setup has NFS shares setup from VM Manager server itself
1. Shutdown VM Server first (Stops all heartbeats etc gracefully)
2. Stop OVMM service on VM Manager server
3. Shutdown VM Manager Server

Can I set up a way to automatic reboot after a kernal panic?
Hey,
I'm working with Mac OS X Server (10.4.9) that is on a 4x2.5 GHz PowerPC G5. I been looking for a way to set up my server to automatically reboot after a kernel panic. Can any one show me the way?
Thanks
MikeWe use to use a 'spare' server for testing but could be pushed into production. For when IBM needed to come in and replace a faulty card.
Get on-site contract, and order an Xserve and use the old G5 Quad workhorse as spare... but you said this is not your usual company, so maybe that don't see things like an IT might.
Swap out RAM for one. Install ECC which Quad can use. And those FAQ lists make a good spreadsheet of what happens.
You might just start with Apple Hardware Test and a memory test.
Warmer weather, I assume it is in climate controlled room?
Have you read up on http://www.xlr8yourmac.com reports on Quad owners and liquid cooling? I know some that went through three motherboards (on-site swap) and a few that walked away with Mac Pro because it was determined the patient reached the point of not being able to be revived. -

Blackberry Curve 9360. New device received yesterday after water damage to my old one. I upgraded to the latest OS and AppWorld yesterday and everything has worked absolutely perfect. Except every time I try and install or upgrade an app it reaches the end of the installation bar then reboots itself and when I look after the reboot I find the upgrade or app hasn't been installed. It does this with every app I try and install. I've tried working on just Wi-Fi or Network and it makes no difference. Can anyone help? has anyone had this before? Incredibly frustrating considering I've just got a new one back!!!
Thanks!Hey ChrisWatkins93,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Thanks for the question.
How much free memory is on the BlackBerry® Curve™ 9360 smartphone? Go to Options>Status to find this information.
To determine if this a operating system issue, I suggest following all the steps in this KB article: www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB11320
Then test out BlackBerry App World™ afterwards to see if the issue is resolved.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
Cheers.

Oracle 10 g OEM does not start after XP boot
Hallo!I am currently studying for the Oracle 10g Administration OCA
I installed Oracle 10 g on Windows XP but once I boot the OS and enter the OEM url on the browser,OEM does not load.
I am forced to go to the command prompt and manually start OEM via the command
emctl start dbconsole.
How can I configure my oracle to enable OEM to automatically start after booting the OS?
Thanks.Hans Forbrich wrote:

T400: auto reboot after poweroff
A confused problem occurs on my T400.
It automatic reboots after my t400 power off whatever I shut down by winos or I keep pressing the power button for a few seconds. I have updated BIOS to new latest version. I look up many web pages, but I couldn’t find out a way to fix it. Maybe my t400’s motherboard has damaged. Someone can tell me what problem has occurred on my t400.
moderator note: type added to subject line for clarity.
Solved!
Go to Solution.Currently i have no new ideas what it could be, but i'll check, if i can find something. another thing about the "reboot" i mentioned before: it may be the automatic reboot from windows, because i find the thinkpad t400 sometimes looks like it is shutdown, although it's rebooting, just had the experience that i wanted to reboot and just thought for a few seconds "ok, is it now shutdown or rebooting?!?", because ALL status leds were off, just as you mentioned, and then the lights turned on again and it did the wanted reboot... don't want to offend, but i think it might be confusing in realizing that it's rebooting instead of "suddenly turning on again".
Did you look into the logs of windows, if there was an error or something like that while shutting down?
I just thought about if there's a bios option for always on on after ac power loss... i recently had some trouble with an other pc, which didn't shutdown and just went on and on again, because it seemed the bios interpreted the shut down as ac power loss... just an idea.

The notification is :
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000101 (0x0000000000000030, 0x0000000000000000, 0xfffff880009b8180, 0x0000000000000001). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 061214-139312-01.
If i look at the console, then i see a BSOD screen
Can you help determine the cause of this failure ?
Best regards
PaulHi Paul,
It is recommended to run hardware diagnostics on the server to check if it is a hardware issue. The Windows built-in hardware diagnostic tools include CHKDSK and Windows Memory Diagnostic tool.

Server attempts reboot or shutdown, but can't
I've been having a problem with a G4 Xserver. It had been intermittent (every couple of months) for a while, but it's been crashing multiple times a day recently.
I'm on 10.2.8, running AFS and FTP, with Netinfo for login. I have about 23 users, and it's rare for many of them to be on at any given time. I do have Retrospect client installed, and Timbuktu.
When it stops responding, I usually see the spinning daisy, as though the machine is shutting down or rebooting. Once or twice, I have seen the solid blue screen. The activity lights on the front panel are pegged at the top end.
Usually I get a run of several of these, then it stops. The first one has always had software update showing, which may be coincidence. This time, it's been going on for a week, and I need to get a resolution.
Crash logs and panic logs show nothing. Watchdog shows the restart process, but nothing for why the activity level pegged and it tried to restart. Automatic reboot is enabled in case of a freeze. Sample of watchdog log:

I have done some looking around the web, and I hear of others having problems due to hardware issues (UPS, and so on). I will be replacing the battery tomorrow, and I'm considering resetting the PMU. Another other ideas?
My usual process is to run fsck and repair permissions. This usually does the trick, but not this time.
Thanks in advance!
AnneI replaced the battery a week and a half ago, and it was up for over a week. After a couple of crashes after that, I started leaving the server closet door open, and that has kept it up for a couple of days. So far, so good.
I don't have a UPS. I did hear from someone in the neighborhood about a power outage one particular evening, but that's it.
The screen is used for 3 different machines, and is turned off or disconnected most of the time, so no screen saver. The only energy save options that are enabled are to restart after a power outage or freeze. It doesn't sleep.
I have heard, on the osx server list, about software update hanging computers, and, separately, about the PMU forcing a restart (instigated by restart when system hangs being checked). None of the exact details (hardward, OS, logs) are identical to my situation.
The next time it crashes, I'll uncheck restarting after a freeze or power outage.
Oh, there's a second machine right below it (slot-loading Xserver, same OS, does web server and moodle), and it has no problems. I keep thinking it is most likely some hardware issue (the jet-engine fans, maybe).
Thanks for the idea!
Something else that I tried, although it didn't give me anything useful:
I left process viewer running, but shut off the monitor. When it tried to restart, I could see the last view of process viewer under the spinning daisy wheel. Which showed process viewer as the highest CPU using item, at 2.7%. Although it was refreshing every 3 seconds and could have been outdated information by then, it was worth a try. -
Hello, I have the following problem when I want to do the following:
I have to log measurements with a logger from pico (www.picotech.co.uk). This is a windows-software. Therefor I'm using parallels desktop 5. The measurement should take about three weeks. In this time the MBP way not turn off or go into sleep, because the pico-software must take every 5 seconds a sample of the voltage and write it to disk.
What's the problem:
After a certain time (always a little less than three hours) without keyboard or keypad access, the MBP reboots. When I touch the touchpad every two hours, the MBP does not reboot. So I can get through the day (when I'm in my testlab), but during the night the MMBP reboots.
What have I done to avoid this (without success):
- standard in Parallel's the windows energy settings are to never shut-down or hibernate
- in the Mac osX Lion software, I set the energy settings to never sleep.
- I downloaded and activated the program "Caffeine" to simulate activity to prevent MBP going asleep.
But nothing helps (till now).
I hope you guys can help me out...
Here I post the part of the system log when the reboot takes place. Can somebody confirm (or deny) that Parallels Desktop 5 could be the cause?

30/08/11 00:55:40,000 kernel sleepI have found the cause of the automatic rebooting of my MacBook Pro. In fact it was not an automatic rebooting, but an automatic logging-out of the system.
In the security and privacy settings (beveiliging en privacy in Dutch), there is an option to automatic logout after a certain time of inactivity (log uit na een periode van xxx minuten).
This was selected and was put on 160mins. I don't know how this was set this way: did I do it one time myself or was it by default this way.
Because I get the same login-screen after display sleep, PC-sleep, and logging-out, I couldn't see a difference. -
How to start Report Server automatically in developer suit 10g
Hi all
I have an application implemented using Developer Suit 10 g forms and reports builder.
For this application, the first report to be printed after booting the computer takes a long time (around 5 minutes)
when printing any more report (even if it was the one printed before ) it takes a little time, this means that the first report made the report server start.
I rebooted the computer, but this time i started the report server manually using this command :
rwserver server=report_server_name
Now, the report is printed after a little time, It's OK.
Is there any configuration to start the Report Server automatically in developer suit 10g after the computer boots ?
Please helpNo answer ?

Siebel 8.1.1 on linux - server fails to connect to gateway after stop/start
I have a very stubborn symptom in my environment, with Siebel SIA 8.1.1 [21111] on OEL 5 2.6.18.
Everything will be working fine after initial install, then I stop the Siebel Server and Gateway, start the services again and the Siebel Server fails to start. The NameServer.log complains that the server cannot connect to the gateway configuration store, and that the login password is incorrect. However it was just working minutes prior. Once it fails like that I can fiddle with it all day and still the Siebel Server will not start.
I have tried a number of suggestions found, verifying the odbcsql command works, verifying the memory files *.shm is not still in the admin directory, making sure all approp. processes are closed after stopping the siebel server, recreating the gateway and siebel server services, rebooting the vm.
The symptom and log messages never change. Once in a while for no apparent reason the siebel server will start again but sure enough if I stop it, it won't come back up.
I have a couple of environments that I have worked with and tried things but both experience the same symptom.Good one. For reference its detailed in
[Siebel CRM 8.1.1 DataDirect License file IVSE.LIC is missing from Gateway Name Server (Doc ID 751784.1)|https://metalink3.oracle.com/od/faces/secure/km/DocumentDisplay.jspx?id=751784.1&h=Y] -
How to create a unique temp table then automatically remove after the join?
i have many users simultaneously accessing the web apps.
my problem is on how to solve the SELECT WHERE IN('..') clause..
i've read a lot of threads that with the same option..
1) open connection and start transaction
2) create temp table
3) insert the data (batch insert)
4) do the main goal. SELECT JOIN or SELECT WHERE IN(SUBQUERY).
5) end transaction and close connection
how do I assure that the created temp table was remove/drop upon 5) ?
thanks a lot..You can do this using global temporary tables. Also data from temporary table will be automatically deleted after commit but table will remain.
e.g.
CREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE today_sales
ON COMMIT DELETE ROWS
AS SELECT * FROM orders WHERE order_date = SYSDATE;
