Oracle VM 3.2.1 test setup - problems with OVS node evictions

Hi all
I am building a small test environment for Oracle VM with the following configuration
4 boxes, each 1 x AMD 6 core cpu + 32GB RAM + 2 x 1GB ethernet (10.30.32.n, 192.168.20.n networks - I only have 1x16 port GB switch, so all cabling is through the one switch - that may be part of the problem)
3 boxes are diskless, running Oracle VM Server from 8GB USB flash drive
1 Box is EL6.3 and set up with:
1x750GB with (LVM) partitions for /, /u01 (Oracle 11gR2SE + OVM Manager), swap, and a partition for the OVS pool
4x2TB drives, set up with LVM striping, and 4 LVs - 1 750GB for virtualbox and VMWare VMs, and 3 others for OVS storage repositories (each a bit over 2TB) - all ext4.
The OVS Pool and OVS Storage file systems are exported via NFS
VM server and VM manager installs all went smoothly. Servers and storage are discovered OK in the manager.
I created 2 networks - one on the 10.30.32 subnet for Server Management, Cluster Heartbeat and Live Migrate (also the public network for accessing the machines). The other on the 192.168.20 subnet for Storage and Virtual Machine.
Created storage pools, and presented to all the servers.
In creating the Server Pool, just took the default 120 for the cluster timeout
Now when I try to import an assembly, or a VM template, it gets so far, then then the server doing the actual job reboots.
My initial thought is that for whatever reason the NFS traffic involved in importing and writing - either network, or I/O on the NFS server - is swamping the cluster heartbeat traffic, and the node just fences itself
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas or suggestions, or can advise what further diagnostics or troubleshooting I can do

I suspect it more to do with your storage than anything. Run your import again and sample your I/O performance from your NFS server during the import. Also, if you can... .create LACP bond on your NFS server. I don't know what kind of throughput you expect but remember. A single GB nic can only do a max of 125/MB a sec. That sounds rather good but take into consideration everything you're doing across your environment... its not a lot. I see well over 400 mb/sec network throughput at times on my storage. I run bonded 10GB nics.
Once you get your templates and such built you shouldn't experience that much NFS I/O. You should allocate enough memory to your guest as to avoid virtual disk paging on your NFS storage.

  • Oracle 8.1.7 driver limit causes problems with CMP

    The information below is from Oracle's site and has been noted by a few
    people on various message groups. We had upgraded to 8.1.7 but hadn't put
    the latest classes12.zip (June 2001) in our classpath. When we do, we get
    the following error from the driver/generated code. We believe this is
    because we are hitting the limit cited below. I don't know why the Oracle
    driver has this limit, but since WL generates this code for the EB, I don't
    see an easy way for us to avoid it.
    Anyone have any comments on this? Is my interpretation of the stacktrace
    correct? If we go back to the old classes12.zip (June 2000) then we don't
    have this problem. But in addition to wanting to run the matching zip file
    with the version of the DB, we also want to use some of the functionality in
    the 8.1.7 zip. Does BEA have a workaround for CMP?

    Using Streams to Avoid Limits on setBytes() and setString()
    There is a limit on the maximum size of the array which can be bound using
    the PreparedStatement class setBytes() method, and on the size of the string
    which can be bound using the setString() method.
    Above the limits, which depend on the version of the server you use, you
    should use setBinaryStream() or setCharacterStream() instead.
    When connecting to an Oracle8 database, the limit for setBytes() is 2000
    bytes (the maximum size of a RAW in Oracle8) and the limit for setString()
    is 4000 bytes (the maximum size of a VARCHAR2 in Oracle8).
    When connecting to an Oracle7 database, the limit for setBytes() is 255
    bytes (the maximum size of a RAW in Oracle7) and the limit for setString()
    is 2000 bytes (the maximum size of a VARCHAR2 in Oracle7).
    The 8.1.6 Oracle JDBC drivers may not raise an error if you exceed the limit
    when using setBytes() or setString(), but you may receive the following
    error:
    ORA-17070: Data size bigger than max size for this type
    Future versions of the Oracle drivers will raise an error if the length
    exceeds these limits.

    I added some debug output to verify that this problem is definitely caused
    by the WL generated code/Oracle driver. To do this, I used
    the -keepgenerated code on ejbc. Then I modified the generated code to
    print the length of the byte array before calling setBytes. I compiled the
    class and put an updated version in my bean jar.
    When I run our test suite, I see hundreds of calls to setBytes with sizes
    such as 315, 368, 1988, 2020. And then occasionally there are sizes of
    41932 or 19409. These larger sizes are always followed by the ORA-01483
    exceptions.
    This appears to be certain confirmation that the problem is caused by the
    8.1.7 driver's enforcement of the 4k limit on the methods that the
    WL-generated code is using to map our Java byte[] to our Long Raw/BLOB field
    in Oracle. Any suggestions for workarounds?Actually, it indicates the driver's being caught by the limitation that
    Oracle itself imposes with setBytes(). This is a known issue I believe, and
    you should ask support for a patch to ejbc that generates calls to setBinaryStream()
    rather than setBytes().

    We use WL 5.1, SP10. I've noticed that sp11 is now out, but it doesn'tseem
    to have any fixes for this problem (it mentions Oracle 8.1.6, but not8.1.7,
    which seems to be the release in which Oracle started enforcing thislimit).
    We're kind of stuck at the moment, I'm surprised no one else hasencountered
    this problem with WebLogic (I have seen postings elsewhere about it with
    other AppServers)

    Hi Joe,
    From your CMP DD it's clear that you use WL 5.1. Which service pack
    do you use?
    AFAIR this problem was fixed in WL 6.1, though I'm not sure about
    5.1. Could you use ejbc with -keepgenerated option and look at
    SystemSessionDataPSWebLogic_CMP_RDBMS.java, particularly
    how bind variable related to you LONG RAW? Is setBytes used? Or
    it's something like setBinaryStream?

    The table has only three fields: two IDs (Number(18)) and a Long Raw
    that
    we
    are storing a Hashtable in. The field seems to be filled fine most of
    the
    time. With the old driver, it always works. As soon as we switch thenew

    Hi Joe,
    This limit defines limit written to oracle strings, raws, blobs and
    clobs
    when setBytes is used. It has nothing to do with the exception
    you're

    Could you show us your CMP deployment descriptor(s)?

  • Remote Delta link setup problem with Bean / Access Service

    Hello,
    I am trying to setup Remote Delta Link (RDL) between two portals. (Both portals same version - EP 7.0 EHP1 SP 05 - are in the same domain)
    I already have the Remote Role Assignment working without any issues.
    The following have been done successfully:
    1. Same user repository has been setup for both the portals
    2. Setup trust between producer and consumer (SSO working fine)
    3. Producer added and registered succesfully on consumer
    4. Permissions setup on producer and consumer
    4. pcd_service user with required UME actions setup
    I am able to see all the remote content in the Consumer portal.
    When I try to copy the remote content and paste it as local content, I am getting the following error:
    Could not create remote delta link to object 'page id'. Could not connect to the remote portal. The remote portal may be down, there may be a network problem, or your connection settings to the remote portal may be configured incorrectly.
    After increasing the log severity, I am able to see the following in Default Trace:

    Could not retrieve the bean / access service to connect with producer
    Like you can see above, there is some bean / access service which is not retrieved successfully. I am not sure if this is a permission problem on the consumer.
    I have checked that the P4 ports are configured correctly (standard - not changed) and I am able to telnet from producer to consumer (and vice versa) on the P4 port.
    I am stuck at this point and am not able to find any information on this.
    I would really appreciate if some one can point me in the right direction.
    Thank you for reading.
    - Raj

    Hi Raj,
    Please check your config of the P4 port on the producer.  Is it really 50004 (check SystemInfo of the producer)?
    I do think there's a problem with the P4 communication since RDL requires P4 connection.
    Do you have load balanced consumer-producer connection? Please refer to this blog for further details

  • Should Device Test find problem with counter?

    Hello!
    I am have one problem with PCI 6251 board. It seems to me that something happening with counter 0. Several days ago everything was ok, but now any counter output does't appears on its terminal (on BNC 2120 block). When I see at the signal from it on the oscilloscope, I can see right shape of the pulses, but about 10 mV amplitude. Everyting is perfect with counter 1 output.
    OK, I run the self-test and it is passed. I have tried to reset the devce and try again - the same result. Self-test is passed, but counter 0 seems to be not functioning.
    Is it another possibility to check the device?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Baturin,
    It is quite possible that your BNC connector has problems. If you were able to route the output of Counter 0 to a PFI line, and able to see a good signal, then your terminal block is at fault. The first things you should look for are the pins. Sometimes, the pins on the connectors are bent, and thus do not provide a reliable contact. Second thing you should look for is any external damage. Finally, use the test panel in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX), in the counter tab to test the card (which is probably what you are already doing).
    If all of the above still seem to confirm your initial diagnostic of a bad BNC connector and a good M series card, then please call us. We would then do a final troubleshooting before sending your BNC connector back to be repaired.
    Thank you and best regards,

  • Problems with discover Nodes

    I have problems with autom. discover of nodes.The services Man.server and agent are started, but i get
    the errormsg:Discovery failed:VNI-4009: Cannot contact agent on the node.
    Can someone help me.
    Thanks.

    what os are you running?
    on my linux box, what i did was to delete *.q and services.ora from $ORACLE_HOME/network/agent then manually put in my instance in tnsnames.ora using the example used in http://www.mike-devlin.com/oracle/tnsnames_ora.htm. i made sure that the instance was up then ran lsnrctl start and agentctl start. OMS was able to discover my database automatically after that.
    i do have a feeling that you are using Win2k/XP, but the files i mentioned can be located in the same directory. instead of lsnrctl start and agentctl start, you can go to Administrative Tools>Sevices and start OracleOra92TNSListener and OracleOra92Agent
    i would recommend, however, trying to use netca when recreating the tnsnames.ora. it just didn't work with mine so i had to do it manually.

  • Data slice inconsistency problem with hierarchy nodes

    Hi Experts,
    We want to lock planning tables from function. We create the appropriate data slices but there are problems with (material group) hierarchy nodes.
    If I give the node as input variable to the function it causes inconsistency in the data slice. If I choose and add this node to the lock in modeler, the problem is the same.
    We are using the following variables to create a data slice:
    0VERSION
    0VTYTYPE
    0COMP_CODE
    ZGRMAT (developed material group)
    Z_YEARCR (developed yera created)
    The problem also exist if I set an another type of node e.g. destination country (0RECIPCNTRY) instead of material group.
    For me, the problem seems to be generic.
    Do you have any idea?
    Many thanks in advance

  • Problem with filling nodes of a context with data

    hi,
    i've got the following problem with filling a controller context:
    the context of the controller looks like:
    Context
    |-Node1             0..n singleton
      |-Subnode1        0..n singleton
      | |-SubVal1.1
      | |-SubVal1.2
      |-Subnode2        0..n singleton
      | |-Subval2.1
      | |-Subval2.2
      |-Val1.1
      |-Val1.2
    that means every Element of Node1 should have its own Subnode-Elements & Val1-Values
    in wdDoInit() of the controller I fill the context like this:
    Collection Node1, SubNode1, SubNode2
    for (Iterator iter = Node1.iterator(); iter.hasNext;) {
       newNode1NodeElement = wdContext.createNode1Element();
       newNode1NodeElement.set... //setting the values
       wdContext.nodeNode1().addElement(newNode1NodeElement);
       for (Iterator iter2=Subnode1.iterator(); iter2.hasNext;) {
          newSubnode1NodeElement = wdContext.createSubnode1Element();
          newSubNode1NodeElement.set... // setting the SubVal1.x
          wdContext.nodeSubnode1.addElement(newSubnode1NodeElement);
       for (Iterator iter3=SubNode2.iterator(); iter3.hasNext;) {
          newSubnode2NodeElement = wdContext.createSubnode2Element();
          newSubNode2NodeElement.set... // setting the SubVal2.x
          wdContext.nodeSubnode2.addElement(newSubnode2NodeElement);
    i've got the impression, that <b>all</b> my SubNodes are filled in the <b>first</b> Node1-Element. is there an error in the code above? because in the first place, i see every values in the first Element of Node1-views and if i navigate to the next Element of Node1, every views are empty.
    for every Node (Node1, Subnode1, Subnode2) i've got an own view, that maps its context to the corresponding Node of the controller context, e.g for the SubNode1-View:
    Context                  Context
    |                        ....
    |- ViewNode      --->    ..|- Subnode1
      |- SubVal1.1   --->    ..   |-SubVal1.1
      |- SubVal1.2   --->    ..   |-SubVal1.2
    in these views, i navigate through the nodes via
    wdContext.nodeViewNode().move...()
    in the SubNode1-View i see the SubVal1.1, SubVal1.2 (that's what i want) <b>and</b> additional SubVal2.1, SubVal2.2 (that's what I don't want...)
    kind regards, achim
    ps: i've studied the Master/Detail-Tutorial and i think the choice for cardinality 0..n and type singleton is correct in my case.

    hmm, let's look at the code:
    for (Iteration Node1) {
      newNode1NodeElement = wdContext.createNode1Element();
      wdContext.nodeNode1().addElement(newNode1NodeElement);
      for (Iteration SubNode1) {
         newSubNode1NodeElement = wdContext.createSubNodeXElement();
         newNode1NodeElement.nodeSubNode1().addElement(newSubNode1NodeElement);
         for (Iteration SubNode1.1) {
            newSubNode1.1NodeElement = <b>wdContext</b>.createSubNode1.1Element();
            newSubNode1NodeElement.nodeSubNode1.1.addElement(newSubNode1.1NodeElement);
       for (Iteration SubNode2) {
          newSubNode2NodeElement = wdContext.createSubNode2Element();
          newNode1NodeElement.nodeSubNode2.addElement(newSubNode2NodeElement);
    is there an error in creating the SubNode1.1-Node (bold line)?
    if the code is correct, perhaps it's only a viewing problem:
    i use views that point on every node and display the values in that node. if i move in the view for Node1 to another node, the values for SubNode1 point to the correct values too, but the values for SubNode1.1 still stay on the old values. is the move of a grandfather node not correctly propagated to his first child?

  • Oracle 9.2.0.1.0 setup problem

    I install oracle 9.2.0.1.0 on windows XP professional but i have some problem.By the way Oracle 9.2.0.1.0 is the first program of on my PC.(means everything is default value.)
    Firstly,i setup name OraHome92 and c:\oracle\ora92 and select Oracle Database oracle 9.2.0.1.0 then select enterprise edition then General purpose then I write Global Database Name orcl.tr and SID orcl and I install database when I insert 3 cd then finishing but say
    .Create Process.null-new-sid ORCL -startmode m error=2
    then
    ORA-12560:TNS:Protocol adapter error one or more tools have failed.
    It is recommended but not required that these tools succeed for this installation.
    You can now select these tools,read its details to examine why they failed,fix those
    problems,and retry them.Or,you can click "Next" to continue.
    then
    End of installation
    The installation of Oracle 9i database was succesful,but some optional configuration tools
    failed or were cancelled.
    When I open oracle enterprise manager Console,and when I want to connect EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA ask username and password I write system as a username and write manager as a password then i click ok but PC do nothing.
    What can i do?

    <snip>
    Please let me know complete details so not going to
    find any issue while installation of oracle 10G.
    Complete details are in the installation guide that comes with the software, and is also available in the complete doc set for your product/version, located at tahiti.oracle.com
    I also have few other question hope you can help me
    out on that
    (1) I have one big production database where uses
    working 24*7 and i want to migrate that database with
    less downtime than what method i have to use for
    migration?
    Less downtime than what. Exactly what are your requirements? What is prompting the migration?
    Second question is:If my linux system is showing 100%
    utilisation than is there any way that temporary i
    can take down to 95% or whatever the minimum
    utilisation i can take..is there any way to reduce
    temporary utilisation?
    100% utilization of what resource?
    Third is:I have created one db file in tablespace
    than after utilisation of datbase get increase so i
    want to remove it from system or that table space but
    there is heavy transaction is going on that table so
    is there any way through which i can remove that
    dbfile without data loss and less downtime?
    If you added a file to a tablespace, and there is now data in that file, how would you expect to remove the file without loss of data? Why do you want to remove the file?

  • Setup problem with WRT55AG

    I just got this router today, and I have been trying to set it up for the past 6 hours now and I am vary frustrated.
    I put the CD in and follow the directions step by step.
    I get all the way up to step 9 and it wont go any further.
    At step 9, it says its configuring the router.
    During this time, the router and my connection go on and off sevral times before it ends with no internet connection was detected.
    Just to maybe find an idea of what the problem may be, I went out and got the wireless adapter for my xbox360 and checked to see if it could connect.
    It found the router over the wireless feature.
    It was given an IP by the router, it was also given a subnet mask, and a gateway.
    I ran a test on the network connection and it detected it as wireless, it found the router and was given an IP, but when it got to the DNS checker, it failed.
    Why, I do not know.
    How to fix this, I do not know.
    Note, this is not about the xbox, I just used it as a tool to test the network.
    If anyone know how to get past this step, I would like that vary much.
    Note:
    Since the setup prosess was not compleated.
    I can not accsess the router or any of its features or config pages yet.
    Message Edited by data960 on 09-24-200601:22 AM

    ok 14 hours is quite a bit ...here is what you do .
    unplug the modem from the router. kepp the power to the router turned on. Then hold down the reset buootn for 1 Minute. release the reset after a min and unplug the power from the router as well.
    Now turn on the modem first.wait for 1 min and then turn on the router.restart your PC.
    Once the PC is back up, check if you are able to go online.if yes,cool. if not ....open the router page using http://192.168.1.1 the password is "admin" (no need for the cd....keep it someplace safe) ....
    once in the setup, click on the status page and check if you have an "internet IP address" ( you have not mentioned if you are using a cable or a DSL connection , who is your ISP ? )
    be as it may....lets try and config your XboX ....click on the setup page of the router and look for "MTU" ...change to manual and put in 1365 as the value.
    This should help you....in case this does not , let me know who you ISP is and what model modem you have.

  • 7.1 Setup problems with X-Fi Card

    I just installed the Soundblaster X-Fi card and hooked it up a new set of GigaWorks S750 7.1 speakers.
    The problem I?m having is that I'm getting almost all of the sound out of the front 2 and center speakers and very little (almost like a bleed over effect) out of the side and rear speakers.
    When I run the THX assignment test (or any of the tests to get the speaker placement and settings) to see if the sound is coming out of the correct speakers I get very strange results. The front left, front center, and front right speakers all sound fine and you can only hear the test coming out of the speaker that you are testing as it should be. However, when testing the side and rear speakers I can hear the test faintly in them and very well from the front speakers (when testing the side right speaker I can hear 'side right' from the side right speaker but mostly from the front right speaker at a ratio of like 90/10 in favor of the front speaker, the same goes with the rear speakers).
    I would imagine that if you test the rear right speaker you should just hear the test coming from the rear right speaker, not mostly from the front right speaker. There must be something screwed up with the way that the speaker settings are set up, but I can't figure out what to do to get the speakers to all pull their own weight.
    BTW, everything is connected and hooked up correctly to the soundcard and the speaker wires are all connected as they should be. The system is setup in 7.1 in both the Windows advanced audio properties and the Soundblaster software.

    Well, after testing this in a game I've noticed a problem. With CMSS-3D enabled I'm getting complete surround sound from all speakers (great for listening to music, but I'm getting no locational sound in that setup - i.e. if something makes a sound from behind the character I'm hearing the sound from all the speakers). By disabling CMSS-3D I'm only getting sound out of the front right, center, front left speakers again and no locational sound in this fashion either.
    I imagine that if you are testing the speakers and you test the front right speaker you should only hear the response from the front right speaker, and when you test the side right speaker you should only hear the response from the side right speaker, but I can't seem to get this to work. Sound is either only coming out of the front speakers or it's coming out of all the speakers, either option is acceptable and I know it has something to do with how the sound system is set up but I can't figure out what I need to do to get everything working correctly.
    Basically when I test the speakers (in the volume panel or the THX Setup Console) I want to hear the test response for the front right speaker only coming from the front right speaker and the test response for the left side speaker only coming from the left side speaker. This is not happening and I'm pretty sure it should be, everything is hooked up correctly so it has to be something in the setup.

  • Does multilingual work with Oracle oci8 Driver? I am facing problems with oci8 while thin driver works fine ...

    Hi, I am currently working on iPlanet 6.0 SP4 with oracle 8.1.6. I am planning to make my application language independent. while testing I figured out that if i use oci8 driver or oracle, it doesn't support other language characters while the thin driver supports fine. Can anybody help me regarding this? Is this a bug, or some possible configuration issue? Has somebody came across this problem before? How do i go about it ?

    We faced same issue. Looks like the native driver does not support the automatic data encoding/decoding from/to database. You can always workaround this by reading everything as byte stream and then by letting java handle the encoding/decoding. But we decided to use type4 thin driver which does this automatically if you set the content type. Anyway we are told that later versions of IAS may not support native drivers, so if you are serious about multi language shift to type4 thin drivers now itself.

  • Oracle Rdb Driver 3.1.0.0 problem with blobs

    I am trying to convert an MsAccess application to use an MsAccess front end and an Oracle Rdb back end.
    I've created the test database under VMS and can successfully link to the Oracle Rdb tables from MSAccess 2000. One of the main reasons for converting to Oracle Rdb is to be able to store large word documents in the database. I was able to do that using Oracle rdb Driver v 3.00.02.06. I recently converted to Oracle Rdb Driver version 3.1.0.0 and can no longer access the Blob field containing the Word document. MsAccess now sees this field as type ‘Binary’ and I keep getting an ‘invalid field type’ error. (with 3.00.02.06 this field was seen by MsAccess as an ‘Ole Object’ and the getchunk and appendchunk functions for getting and saving a blob worked reasonably well).
    Is this a bug in 3.1.0.0 or is there some way to get MsAccess to recognize this Binary field type?

    I suspect you'll need to contact Oracle support on this. There aren't, to my knowledge, any RDB folks around here.

  • Setup Problem with 8500a, computer does not sees printer, but printer sees router

    When  updated my wireless router (AC 1200) my 8500a had to go to the "guest network".  The printer sees the router and prints the test pages fine, the computer does not see the printer and I can not print.  During the setup, when I enter the IP address off the printer, the computer does not find it.  What can I do? I am running windows 7 premium.

    Hi 776,
    I understand that you're trying to setup your printer.  Is the computer you're trying to connect to the printer on the same guest network as the printer?
