Oracle VM 3 with SUN SERVER X3

Dear All Experts,
Is it possible to run Oracle VM 3 with SUN SERVER X3 has only 2 hard disks using local storage?
If can, how to do it? please kindly share this experience?
Thanks and regards,
Vandy

Booting to a USB-thumb-drive won't be a redundant OS mirror but that sounds like a good idea & that would be one way to do it. Solid State USB drives are likely more reliable than HDD but they do also fail (or maybe wear out & become read-only). Worst case you hopefully could just reinstall the OS on a new USB and your data would still be recoverable.
Speaking of adding disks, if the BIOS/MB supports it you may also be able to add a USB-3.0 HDD. USB-2.0 may also be an option but would be slower. For my Dev environment I added multiple USB-3.0 7200rpm 4TB drives and they give me some piece of mind and provide decent performance for backups for my Dev environment (I clone to them to give extra layer of back up).
I don't know if you can mirror 2 USB drives nor have I tried removing them and rotating them but both might be options (haven't though much about nor tried to do either yet).

  • Oracle JDeveloper 10g with Sun Java App server

I have oracle JDeveloeper 10g and sun App Server 8. I want to find out if JDeveloper can create entity beans that can run on Sun app server.
I know that sun app server uses things like sun-cmp-mapping.xml and sun-ejb-jar.xml. If i create these as normal in JDeveloper would they run on sun app server? if not what configuration do i need to do?

Sun Java App Server 8 doesn't ship with the Apache Tomcat jk/jk2 connector. But you can download Tomcat 5 and install it. Copy ${catalina_home}/server/lib/tomcat-jk2.jar under $s1as_home}/lib
Now Sun Java App Server 8 will have the code required. Then you will need to start the jk connector (this is the most difficult task). Since you don't have any API to start this connector to listen (in Tomcat, the connector is started by default and listen on port 8009), the only way for you to start it is to use JMX. Pick one of the available JMX client ( jmx-ri is a good candidate), and do:
    (1) create the connector
    (2) start the connector
Then follow the Jakarta Tomcat instruction on how to install Apache and JK2.
I didn't spend the time to find the exact command for JMX, but technically it should work. Once I have time I will take a look (The Tomcat 5 Admin Gui uses JMX, so by browing the code you should find the exact JMX command)
    Hope that help.

  • Oracle 8i compatible with Windows Server 2008?

Does anyone know whether Oracle 8i can be run on Windows Server 2008? My organization has only a license for Oracle 8i and we're buying new servers coming with Windows Server 2008.
    Thank you, Chaiyong

There is no such thing as a licence for "Oracle 8i" there is only a licence for Oracle. Do you mean that you're out of support ?
In any event 8i is desupported.
Best bet is to install P2V a VMware Windows 2000 and leave it at that.

  • Oracle 10g connectivity with sql server 2000 through oracle transpa gateway

    dear gurus.
i am to connecto oracle 10g with sql server 2000 through oracle transparent gateway.
i have installed transparent gateway and proper configured. also link is created.
but when i execute query "select * from city@inventory" , so an error displayed.
ORA-12500: TNS:listener failed to start a dedicated server process.
kindly suggest me what could be the cause.
    regards,

if the listener fails to spawn a dedicated server process it is commonly indicating an issue with the listener. So posting the listener and also a listener trace including a description of the env where you installed the gateway into which directory would be helpfull. Please keep also in mind if you have for example a 10.2.0.3 database and you install into this directoty a 10.2.0.1 gateway you have to reapply the patchset again do get consistent file version.
So please describe more detailed your env.

  • Oracle not working with windows server 2003

After upgrading from windows 2000 with oracle 8i to windows 2003 server I have tried 8i, 9i and now 10g with no success. I can not connect to the oracle database. Using the oracle net configuration assistant and through my asp pages I get the following error:
    ORA-12170:TNS Connect timeout occurred
    I can TNSPING the database.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

The server is in the DMZ.
Protected by a microsoft ISA Firewall.
A Windows 2000 machine with the same Oracle version can see the database through the same Firewall.
We can talk to the database using SQLplus but not using IIS or testing using the Oracle net Configuration tool.
the only other factor that might be relevent is that it takes two attempts to connect with SQL plus. the first always gives a connection timeout.
Despite this none of these problems are present on a Windows 200k server

thanksOracle Forms is best used against an Oracle database... so why on Earth would you want to use it against SQL Server?
Aside from that, Oracle Forms is old technology... you'd be better using Oracle Application Express (Apex) for producing web based apps.
If you must do things against an SQL Server database, you would need to set up heterogenous services connectivity (HS) and treat the SQL Server database as an external database.

  • Oracle Reports 10g with Weblogic Server 10.3

    Hello every body
I have ADF web fusion application in JDeveloper 11, I builded by reports using Oracle Reports 10, also I'm Deploying my project to Weblogic Server 10.3
Now, How could I invoke my Reports from JDeveloper ?
1st: Can I deploy my Reports (JSP Report paper layout) to Weblogic 10.3 and How ?
2nd: How Could I pass parameters from my Application (Builded usingJjDeveloper 11) to my reports ?
    Thank you very much

I'm not sure if Reports 10 is certified on WLS 10.3 - you might want to check with the Oracle Reports guys on the Reports forum (or with Oracle support).
That said - when Fusion Middleware 11g will come out you'll have a single platform that will run both your reports and your ADF application on the same server.
In terms of invoking your reports and passing parameters - you can just use the URL way as described in the publishing reports manual to activate the report on the report server.
Link it to your application with a goLink component.

  • Oracle v 9 with Windows Server 2008 and odbc

    Hi.
I've got a customer that has a windows 2008 server and I need to connect to an oracle database from a .net application from this server.
First I thought it was easy to configure an odbc connection on the computer and then just use it but it seems that I need to install "oracle client" first.
Problem, it seems that it's not possible to find this "oracle client" for oracle version < 9 (it's running somehting like 8.1.6 ) for windows 2008
I have also try to directly use .net assembly to avoid odbc but i've got the same error message "oracleconnection need oracle client installed"
    Is there a solution ?

A 10.2 Oracle client was certified to connect to an 8.1.7 database (8.1.7 has been decertified, so all certifications are past tense). A 10.2 Oracle client is certified on a Windows 2008. So it should be possible to install a 10.2 client on a Windows 2008 server and connect to an 8.1.7 database.
I can't guarantee that this will work, just that it appears that it should. I would be very hesitant to have this mix of very new technologies connecting to very old technologies because you're definitely pushing the envelope. It generally doesn't make a lot of sense to stay with a version of Oracle that hasn't been supported in years if you want to run the latest version of Windows on the client machine-- if this is a system that is going to continue into the future, you would generally want to keep everything relatively current; if this is a legacy system that is being phased out, you would generally want to leave everything on older versions.

    Hello,
I am installing Oracle 11gR2 RAC on Solaris cluster 3.3 with hardware RAID and ASM
I was able to register rac-famework-rg and crs-framework-rg.
Oracle RAC is up and running (confirmed from crs_stat -t -v)
However, while creating option 5. Automatic Storage Management (ASM) on clsetup, I was getting ERROR: ASM is either not installed or the installation is invalid!
I have created the asm-inst-rg with resource asm-inst-rs and asm-dg-rg with resources asm-dg-fra, asm-dg-data and asm-dg-crs using CLI. Please find the complete clrg and clrs status output below:

The problem is the the next selection which is "Specify Oracle ASM Disk Group Resources" which does NOT list any asm-dg-rg or asm-dg-fra or anything, instead, it throws error "No existing disk-group resources available for selection. Run ASM subwizard create new resource(s) and come back to this panel for the selection."
Kindly guide me to create Resources for Oracle Real Application Clusters Database Instances either in CLI or clsetup

Solaris Cluster 3.3 u1 solved the issue.
The problem right now I am facing is IPMP on the public interface.
When I remove the cable on the bge0, the ip on bge0 and the SCAN IP's are plumbed to bge1 which is in sc_ipmp0, but NOT the virtual IP!!! and the listeners on both nodes go offiline!!!

    Thanks for the response Hans,
When you said, People have been able to make it work, is there something that needs to be done to make it compatible or can I just ignore following from the compatiblity check in the installatation prerequisites?I do not condone using unsupported, and potentially unsupportable, environments. The risk to the user community in production is too great, especially in that 'it may appear to work, but may just as easily run into an obscure incompatibility'.

    - Prepare your /forms/server/formsweb.cfg file
instead of the archive_jini tag, use the archive tag

  • JMS with Sun Server

In order to boast the Java community, I suggest that Sun Microsystems set up a few servers that can be used for free by any java application written with the Java Messaging API. Like how the ICQ program can use the ICQ servers and AOL does not charge it's users for it's use.
In this way, voluntary Java programmers will be encouraged to write Java Messaging applications that can employ the freely accessible Sun's servers for users to communicate with. The programmer will not have any costs to themselves and will thus be encouraged to write a feature rich application.
Then before long, many Messaging applications will emerge and all will be able to inter-communicate because they all conform to the Java Messaging API.
In this way, I hope to see JVM installed on all computers because they would want to run these cool IMs.

    ActiveBuddy lets companies control bots
    By Gwendolyn Mariano
    Staff Writer, CNET News.com
    February 6, 2002, 9:50 AM PT
Technology start-up ActiveBuddy says it plans to offer its software tools to developers, allowing companies to build their own "bots" that send information in instant messages.
ActiveBuddy, which creates interactive agents that help people retrieve information via IM services, said Tuesday that it will now let companies use its software development tools to build their own bots. The company said its Developer Access Program will charge a small licensing fee for the tools as well as a fee for hosting a bot on ActiveBuddy servers.
The company plans to make its tools widely available in the second quarter of 2002. New York-based ActiveBuddy said it already is helping 15 companies, including Hewlett-Packard and travel reservation company Sabre Holdings, build bots; it expects to work with 100 companies by the end of April.
The program highlights the company's aggressive efforts to expand the capabilities of instant messaging, which is slowly evolving from offering informal personal chats to supporting applications such as file-sharing and videoconferencing, as well as multiplayer games. ActiveBuddy has been working to make its technology the de facto standard for creating interactive agents. For instance, someone could ask a bot when a movie is playing in a certain neighborhood and receive a short response that lists show times.
The company said it hopes to see bots sitting on most IM users' buddy lists within the next year or so.
"We feel that interactive agents are an exciting new way for companies to truly interact with their customers," said Gray Norton, senior product manager for ActiveBuddy. "Ultimately, we'd like to see companies in all industries and all places adopting our software to create and deploy interactive agents."
Analysts agree that ActiveBuddy's program could "enhance the IM experience" for employees and consumers. T.S. Kelly, an analyst at research firm Nielsen/NetRatings, noted that companies have been struggling to keep staff up-to-date about internal news and the market overall.
"Any tools that enhance the IM, e-mail or communication experience is a good thing," Kelly said.
ActiveBuddy said that companies, including Hewlett-Packard, plan to create agents with its tools that provide employees with internal information, such as company projects or staff directories.
Other companies are aiming to use bots as promotional tools. Sabre Holdings, for example, intends to build travel-information agents that help people retrieve details about airline flights and destinations.
Still, ActiveBuddy noted that many Web surfers have yet to adopt instant messaging, pushing the company to branch out to reach a larger audience. ActiveBuddy is testing a Web-based version to its general agent, called "Smarterchild," which provides news, weather forecasts, reference tools, financial data, movie times, horoscopes and games.
