Oracle VM as virtual machine - Networking

hi
I have seen some docs about networking, and thus how to install oracle vm 3.2.x as virtual guest on top of the cloud stack (HA enabled).
Is there any best practices document for networking in this fashion?
We like to have 3 networks.
Network management VLAN1 (local IP adresses)
Storage Network VLAN2 (local IP adresses)
VM Network VLAN3 (public IP's)
While the oracle vm runs as a guest, there is only the public network wehere we can select for nic's.
It's possible to run OVM as guest with diffrent network segment? Should we use this configuration in a production ervironment
Thanks for your support

I was making this too complicated... I set up a squid proxy on a different machine and it all works well.

    How can I keep the date/time on my virtual machine in sync with my laptop date/time so that date and time in Oracle R12 is current?

  • Oracle 11g in Virtual Machine

    Hi Gurus,
    I would like to gather input from you, what is the pro and con, advantages and disadvantages for putting Oracle 11g in Virtual Machine (VMWare, Oracle VM, Virtual Box, etc.)
    and will there be any licensing issue with this.
    Currently we have CPU Based license for our Production and Named User license for the Dev.
    thanks in advance for your time.
    Lie

    If you put Oracle db in VMWare then you have a non-certified configuration, and you could be alone (I mean without Oracle support) if you have a problem than Oracle support cannot reproduce in a certified configuration. I would avoid a non-certified configuration for a production environment.
    So, two choices :
    * go for Oracle VM
    * go without VM at all

  • Oracle database on virtual machine without a license

    Hi,
    Someone told me earlier that you can install Oracle on a virtual machine without buying a license. Do you know an internet link that could confirm this.
    Thanks.

    What about preconfigured virtual machines Oracle distributes? Do you have to have a license for them as well? I'm pretty sure you do, it would say in big letters if you didn't need a license...
    I not can you alter the installations by building additional instances?Yes, you can add instances (except to an XE database) for testing but you asked about licensing a server...

  • Networking arch linux virtual machine networking

    For a project, I've got an arch linux virtual machine running on the school network. The image has SSH installed and that works just fine, the problem is that the network admin didn't give it access to the internet (so I can access it only over lan). What I would like to do is run updates on it and install several libraries that I need for deploying a web application (rails). The easy way to install them is obviously through pacman, which leads me to my question: Is there a way to make a network interface on the server that would use ssh to make a bridged connection to the internet?
    Not super sure if I worded that correctly, but it seems that it ought to be possible to have a network interface on the vm that, when the vm opens an ssh connection to some ssh server (on the lan) allows the vm to use that connection for more than just ssh.
    Thanks.

    I was making this too complicated... I set up a squid proxy on a different machine and it all works well.

  • Virtual Machine Network Health not working

    Server 2012 R2 is supposed to have a feature which detects when the public LAN connection used to get into the VM's becomes unavailable, this is supposed to kick in around 60 seconds after it being unavailable. however, I have tried to test this by physically
    unplugging the network cable, and disabling the network adapter in ncpa.cpl and the virtual machine doesn't seem to live migrate to the other node. the settings for the network adapter in the virtual machine configuration has the "protected network"
    box checked by default. is there something else we need to check/configure here?
    it looks like it tries to migrate but fails, the message in the information details state:
    Live migration of 'Virtual Machine Test-TERM' failed.
    'Virtual Machine Test-TERM' failed to fixup network settings. Verify VM settings and update them as necessary

  • Vmware Esxi5.1 virtual machine network adapters problem

    I have an issue with a windows 2008 R2 virtual machine on an ESXi 5.1 free version server , network adapters inside the VM is not identified , they appear with exclamation mark and when I tried to reinstall drivers for intel e1000 adapter it keeps telling me that no adapters are present , in addition to that it doesn't identify vmxnet2 and vmxnet3 even I tried to uninstall and reinstall vmware tools!
    Anyone can help with this issue !?

    I want to use the VM as a DHCP server or share the VM's internet connection with OS X -- the Mac will masquerade as a virtual Linux box, not vice-versa. • Set VLAN ID on a virtual machine network on Windows 2012

    I'm currently working in C# consuming Hyper-V V2 WMI API to do different tasks related to virtual machines. I've not been able to figure out how to get/set VLAN ID. I've found many links on net pointing to PS HyperV lib exploring "Get-VMNICVLAN"
    and "Set-VMNICVLAN" but they dont seem to be working from me as Nic.connection[0] always seem to be null in my case. Perhaps that only works with Windows 2008 Hyper-V.
    Also I'm not familiar with WMI scripts much so converting that code to C# is being a pain. Can someone please tell me exactly how to do so in C# using WMI.
    Regards
    Usman

    Hello Brian
    Thanks for your reply. Perhaps V1 and V2 are not only namespaces since there are many class names, method names, parameter names are different, or perhaps I didnt work with the standard way with V1. Like "msvm_VirtualSwitch" changed to "msvm_VirtualEthernetSwitch",
    "msvm_VirtualSystemGlobalSettingData" to "msvm_VirtualSystemSettingData" and specific for VLAN "Msvm_VLANEndpointSettingData" to "MSVM_EthernetSwitchPortVLanSettingData" and many more places.
    I would easily set VLANID using code below in V1
    string szArg = szArg = "NetworkVSP:" + szSwitch + @"\\" + szSwitchPort;
    ManagementObject vlansettingdata = this.wmi.GetWmiObject("Msvm_VLANEndpointSettingData", "InstanceID Like 'Microsoft:{0}%'", new object[] { szArg });
    vlansettingdata.SetPropertyValue("AccessVLAN", nVlanid);
    vlansettingdata.Put();
    But now even having reached the vlansettingdata object in V2, I get a "Generic Error" on calling vlansettingdata.Put(); Here's a snippet of code I'm using in V2, which may be wrong
    ManagementObjectCollection vlansSettings = switchPortObj.GetRelated("MSVM_EthernetSwitchPortVLanSettingData");
    ManagementObject vlanSettingsData = null;
    if (vlansSettings != null)
    foreach (ManagementObject settingData in vlansSettings)
    if (settingData != null)
    vlanSettingsData = settingData;
    break;
    if (vlanSettingsData != null)
    vlanSettingsData.SetPropertyValue("OperationMode", "1");
    vlanSettingsData.SetPropertyValue("AccessVLANID", nVlanid);
    vlanSettingsData.Put();
    IsVlanSet = true;
    Forgive my ultimately dirty raw code, its just part of a test app that's getting uglier with desperate attempts to succeed.

  • Oracle tuxedo and Oracle tuxedo message queue on top of a virtual machine.

    Hi buddies.
    how is it going?
    A quick question.
    So we are going to go live  using Oracle Tuxedo 12.1.1.0 with Distinguished Bulletin Board Liaison and Oracle Tuxedo Message Queue 12.1.1.0  on top of a Virtual Machine (VMWARE) running Oracle Linux 6.2. However we want to know if there are any recommendations or mishaps in which we may face ahead by running Oracle Tuxedo on a virtual machine?
    I mean, I am wondering if I have to worry about kernel parameters, virtual machine parameters or any other thing from which could mess up everything.
    Another question.
    Does oracle also provide virtual machines certification where Oracle tuxedo would run on top of ?
    Todd Little-Oracle
    Maurice G

    Hi Bruno,
    I'm not sure what you mean with Distinguished Bulletin Board Liaison.  I'm guessing you mean a clustered or MP configuration?  And is it truly a clustered configuration or just a single machine MP configuration?
    Regarding configuration, are you using Tuxedo services as well or just Tuxedo Message Queue?  The biggest issue related to OS configuration is around IPC resources.  If you do a tmloadcf -c on your UBBCONFIG file, it will help you determine the minimum IPC resources required.  In general I suggest configuring significantly more resources than the minimum to allow for future changes and for some of the parameters for heavier loads.  In particular IPC message queue parameters are heavily dependent upon load.  So make sure the maximum message size and queue size are large enough for your anticipated workload.  You can monitor them under load using the ipcs command.
    We don't certify virtual machine environment but support them as long as the VM vendor assures compatibility, which obviously VMware and Oracle VM both do.
    Regards,
    Todd Little

    If you are new, why not use the current version, 3.0.3? I am new too, and don't know anything about version 2 so I can't help with your direct question. 3.0.3 actually has ten patches against the host and 1 for the manager. I'd suggest you get current and start over.

  • ASM on a virtual machine

    Hi Just a quick one...
    Would it be possible to install 11gr2 with ASM on a virtual machine (running OEL 5.5) - host machine running windows?

    this?... as in im strugeling to find any guides for running oracle on a virtual machine with windows hostThe reason you are struggling to find any such guides is because there is no reason for them to exist. Oracle only cares about what OS it is running on. If you have a windows host with a virtual Linux, and Oracle is installed on that virtual linux, then Oracle only cares about the linux. It doesn't even know about the Windows, so why should there be any guides dealing with that? Running oracle on a virtual machine is just like running it on a physical machine. That's the whole idea of virtualization.

    Virtualbox - "An x86 virtualization software package developed by Sun Microsystems" (That quote came from the summary in the very first hit when I googled "virtualbox". I didn't even have to drill down to find it.) (Sun is now owned by Oracle)
    VMware - a company that produces a variety of VM products. The leading vendor of such products
    VMplayer - one of the products produced by VMware. A free, no-frills product for creating virtual machines under a host OS.

  • Connecting one database to many virtual machines

    Hi Experts,
    We have set many Virtual Machines (VM) in Windows Server already. Each Virtual Machine will be used to install SAP module for instance VM-1 for BI, VM-2 for Solution Manager, VM-3 for IDES, VM-4 for EP, etc.
    The questions is:
    Is it possible to integrate one Data Base (Oracle) to all virtual machine? and how to do it ?
    Thank you for the respond.
    Gruesse,
    F. Ramli

    It is called "MCOD" - http://service.sap.com/mcod
    Personally I wouldn´t use such a scenario. In case you want to upgrade/patch the database all instances will be down.

  • Can not create "Virtual Machine" - Oracle VM 3.0.2

    I seem to have everything built right as previous VMs I have created.
    Steps taken so far (not sure if these are in the exact order but it is close):
    New NFS storage device.
    Created a new Repository using new NFS storage.
    Installed a new Oracle VM server
    Discovered New Server.
    Presented new Repository to server.
    Created a new pool that used one mount point as the Cluster Storage.
    Added the new Server to the new pool.
    The new devices are all on a new network. I went to the Hardware - Networks tab and re-initialized the "virtual machine" setting. I even verified on the new OVM server that the new bridge is there.
    Uploaded an Oracle 5.5 ISO to the repository.
    So with that. I have a new pool with 1 server, a new repository that is presented, plenty of VNICs available and now I want to create a new VM guest.
    I click Create Virtual Machine and go through the pages. HVM, create my Vdisk, choose the ISO I created, and click finish.
    I then receive.

    Are you connecting to the VM Manager over HTTP or HTTPS?
    If you're using HTTPS, try HTTP - I had similar issues to you, which seemed to go away when I connected to the manager over HTTP.
