Oracle VM  Linux Os (Oracle VM server 2.1 + Oracle VM manager 2.1)

All experts
What is Oracle VM Linux Os and what difference between
Oracle VM server 2.1
and
Oracle VM manager 2.1
Thanks in advance

Why is it easier for you to use two separate postings to ask us to read the docs for you rather than reading them yourself?

  • Oracle on Linux is free?

    Hi !
    Please let me know can i use oracle on linux free without purchasing any licence for oracle for 25 users.
    Harinder

    It depends what you want to do, and whether you need Enterprise or Standard or Express Edition. It also depends on the number of processors on the server.
    Express Edition is free, but you are limited to 4GB of data.
    Standard Edition One is cheap, but can't be used on a system with more than 2 processors.
    Standard Edition is less cheap and is limited to 4 processors
    Enterprise Edition is expensive (with some more even more expensive options) but has no restrictions.
    For 25 users, DEPENDING ON THE APPLICATION, Express or Standard One may well be enough.
    Check out the pricing here.

  • RPM missing in Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.4

    The RPM oracle-firewire-module-2.6.xxxx is missing in Oracle Enterprise Linux.
    I have two servers:
    1) One runs Redhat EL kernel 2.6.9-11.xxx. I can see my firewire drive from Redhat.
    fdisk -l ===> show firewire partitions.
    rpm -qa ===> show RPM oracle-firewire-module-2.6.xxxx
    2) One runs OEL kernel 2.6.18-164.el5PAE (lateset download from Oracle Store). I cannot see my firewire drive from OEL.
    fdisk -l ===> nada
    rpm -qa ===> nada
    This is very disappointing. Oracle Linux is missing Oracle's own RPMs. I did several installs and made sure I picked everything available in DVD. Further, I searched install media and did not see any firewire RPMs in the DVD. OSS (oss.oracle.com) does not provide RPMs for versions later then Oracle Enterprise Linux 4. I was demoing RAC with Oracle Enterprise Linux 4. Then I upgraded to Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 and now I am screwed. I will have to go to Redhat EL5.

    Actually this process has been simplified by quite a bit in 5.4. The original poster has probably already figured this out, but in case someone else looks, the thing to do is comment out the firewire-ohci entry in /etc/modprobe.d/blaclist-firewire and then restart. I was still not able to see anything, so I found the rescan-scsi-bus.sh script and then I could finally see my device. The latest version of the script I found was 1.35. I mention that because I found a few different ones.
    My trouble at the moment is that the device /dev/sdx can only be seen on one server at a time. If I shut down one machine, & then rescan, then I can see it on the other. I can use nfs and export it, but that is not quite what I wanted.

  • Oracle on Linux or NT

    I'm new to Oracle, and have been assigned to "get familiar" with
    it. The starting point is to download and install it.
    We are at a crossroads in our decision process as to whether it
    should run on an NT machine, or our RedHat 6 Linux machine. The
    database it will be using will ultimately be quite large and
    have many connections.
    I have read about differences in threading models between Linux
    and NT, as well as file size limitations on Linux.
    Can someone point me to an unbiased list of limitations /
    comparisons between these two platforms as far as a database
    server is concerned? I'm not interested in a "My linux is
    better than your NT" argument, I just need the facts.
    Basically, "Which platform will net us better Oracle performance
    and scalability"

    Hi,
    Oracle on LINUX is largly experimental, in my opinion. You did
    not mention reliable and recoverable and robust (aka, working),
    in your criteria ("performance and scalability"). If you are
    experimenting, then use Oracle on LINUX. If your job depends on
    Oracle working, then use NT (that's not my first choice, but NT
    or LINUX were your two options).
    The facts are simple to find. Search this message board for
    LINUX issues. Then look at Oracle on NT support issues. Compare
    the two and draw a conclusion.
    Good luck, especially if you're starting with Oracle on LINUX.

    Mike Thomas

  • Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 w/ unixODC connect to Oracle DB 11g

    Hi,
    I am trying to configure our new install of Oracle Unbreakable linux (Enterprise v5) to connect to our Oracle 11g DB via ODBC. I have configured the odbc.ini and odbcinst.ini files. I have tried to do a test connection using isql. This is the error I am getting....
    $ isql -v JSI
    isql: symbol lookup error: /opt/oracle/product/11g/lib/libsqora.so.11.1: undefined symbol: SQLGetPrivateProfileStringW
    I understand this issue is with unixODBC and the liib.... libodbcinst.so.1.0.0. However, I have not found a way to fix this. Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated on getting this working.

    Well I have gotten a bit further along. I was able to get a working 2.2.12 rpm. I now issue the command....
    $isql -v JSI
    [S1000][unixODBC][Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-12504: TNS:listener was not given the SERVICE_NAME in CONNECT_DATA
    [ISQL]ERROR: Could not SQLConnect
    Now I am getting this error.
    I also know that my tnsnames.ora and linstener.ora files are correct b/c I can connect to remote Databases using sqlplus. I have downloaded a free trial of easysofts Oracle ODBC Driver and it works perfectly. So my configs should be right. My yquestion I guess is why does the Oracle supplied ODBC driver not work?

  • Grid contro 10g installing on oracle enterproise linux 64 bit

    i downloaded oracle enterprise linux for 64bit from oracle website and installed
    some package needed installed for grid control that there is not on my source:
    xscreensaver
    openmotif21 ->i have "openmotif22"
    from where could i download these package for OEL(oracle enterprise linux)?
    is there any where in oracle website?

    Hi;
    I'm having problems installing Oracle 11i on Red Hat Linux 64. I understand that it is not supported, however I need to go through the exercise of implementing OATM and then upgrade to 12. You mean oracle database 11g or you mean oracle e-business suite 11i? I am little confused
    If you mention oracle database 11g than check below
    What is exact linux version. Oracle 11gr2 certified wiht linux64. Please check:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/index.html
    I've started the install and I continue to hit this problem.
    Any advise on how to get around this issue. Oracle Support insist on using 32bit. I do have a co-worker that has been able to install it on Red Hat 64bit.
    Step 1 of 5
    /DAT01/ebs/DataTop/visdb/9.2.0/temp/VIS_rac1/adrun9i.sh
    Completed unzip 67 of 108
    with 62% completeIf you mention Oracle E-Busines suite than you can not install apps tier on 64 bit which is not supported.

  • Oracle 9i patches for linux 4.0 Advance server

    how do i download the required patches of oracle 9i for linux 4.0 Advanced server. I am 9i oracle certified professional. Currently I am not working. how it is possible for me to dowload pathces through www.metalink.oracle.com or is there any other way to get that.
    Thanx in anticipation.
    REKHA BHANDARI
    OCP (9i) - DBA

    As far as I can tell, the only way to patch Oracle installations for security or flaw updates is to hand-deliver bags of cash to Mr. Ellison. I was excited to see that they now offer a free developer license for the initial install, however, developers need to work with patched versions as well to ensure compatibility.
    To anyone at Oracle that may read this: Is there a way for developers to download security and flaw patches without using Metalink? If Metalink is the only option, is it still out of the price range of non-corporate or government entities?
    Thanks,
    Randy
