Oracle VM on windows as host os

Hi
Can oracle vm be installed on top of windows 2008 as the host OS and centos 5 as the guest OS for LAB environment for Oracle RAC .
Once i install centos as the Guest OS can it be cloned to form another guest OS
is there a document that describes step by step to build a Oracle RAC environment on top of windows as the guest oracle VM as the vm and centos as the guest os ?
Appreciate your replies

No, Oracle VM can't be hosted under other OS.

Does Oracle VM require a host operating system?
No. Oracle VM installs directly on server hardware and does not require a host operating system.

  • Host Credential Problem in Oracle 10g on Windows

    Hi,
I have another problem that is really bothering me. I
have tried using Oracle database 10g on Windows XP and
it works fine till you shut down and attempt to
restart (or any administrative task)with the EM. It
asks for the Database and Host credentials but always
rejects the Host credentials. Now because i only have
the Administrator as the OS user, i try to give this
user and it's password and it still doesn't accept
    that.
What could be the problem??? I infact have realized
that this problem is NOT there if i use 10.1.0 on Red
Hat Linux AS 3 because for the host credentials i use
the OS user Oracle and the password (Owner of Oracle
    Installation)and it goes through fine.
In Windows, what should i do to rectify this problem.
Or is it a bug with Oracle on Windows. Or where should
i get the relevant Host credentials Oracle requests on
Windows or should i create a user??? Please
    HELP!!!!!!!!!!

That could be the 'Log on as a batch job' problem. See here:

  • Oracle 10g EM DB console Host Preferred Credentials for Windows

    Hello:
I install Oracle 10g R2 on on windows machine (XP Professional SP2).
Everything is OK except I can't set Host Preferred Credentials.
I logged in Windows using Windows Domain account, connected EM DB console as sysdba.
I used domain user name to set Host Credentials and get the error:
Connection to xxxx as user Domain\user failed: IOException in sending Request :: Connection refused: connect
I created a loal user oracle, added it to ORA_DBA group, add it to "Act as part of the operating system" and "Log on as a batch job" under Local policies.
Then I set oracle as Host Credential, still get the same error.
Can any one tell me how should I set the Host Credentials for Oracle 10g on Windows?
    Thanks for any help.

Production release of XE on Vista beta 2 runs fine.
    http://prpi.blogspot.com/2006/06/oracle-xe-on-windows-vista-beta-2.html

    Hi tom,
So what your saying is that if i really need to run
oracle9i on my vista home premium i should just go
ahead and dual boot my laptop with MS windows XP?You must use a certified OS, 9i has never been supported for windows vista, and most probably it won't be supported. If you want to install an RDBMS you should install at least 10.2.0.3.0, as stated on my previous post.
Vista would just be a host opertating system, in case of using Virtual Machine Software, if you are planning to install 9iR2, and use a certified OS as listed in the [https://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/certify/certify.istore_welcome]Oracle Certify Matrix

  • Oracle 9i on Windows 2003 server - DBCA error

    1. This is the error message that I get when I am trying to install the 9.2.0.3 software in a new oracle home. There is a 10g database which sits in a different Oracle home. The OUI runs smoothly until it comes to the point where the Database Config Assistant tool starts running and then I get this error and the installer hangs. Could anyone let me know why I might be getting this error.

FYI - I have installed the OUI patch Oracle Universal Installer release 2.2.0.18.0 for Windows and the Oracle9i Database Release 2 (9.2.0.3.0) Patch Set for Windows after I installed the 9.2.0.1 database software.
I then tried to run the DBCA tool from the 'Start > Programs>Oracle 9ihome>' menu to create the new Oracle 9.2.0.3 database but the DBCA assistant would not start up.
    2. I have a related question:
Has anybody performed a downgrade of Oracle 10g database to Oracle 9.2.0.3 database using export/import?
Can you perform a full database export of the Oracle 10g database using the 9.2.0.3 export utility and then perform a full database import into Oracle 10g? I have read some documentation that states this is not possible. Can anyone verify or confirm how they did this migration? So is the only option then to perform a table or user level export?
Also, if both the databases reside on the same Windows 2003 server box, how can you ensure that the source database files are not overwritten?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Vishal.

It only happens when you have oracle 10g and Oracle 9i on the same machine.
You can run 9i dbca successfully, if you rename the 10g "orasrvm.DLL" found in any 10g BIN directory. Rename it back after you are 9i dbca is complete.
Please complete details for this issue see

I've found that Oracle tends to survive well when installed on a supported platform which is upgraded, but there are usually issues when attempting a fresh install on a newer platform.
Your problem states "Oracle Not Found". Therefore your OS services know that they should be attempting to connect to an Oracle database but the database is 'not found'. Further, it says that the TNS Server is not found. TNS is Oracle's term for 'on the network'.
Is there a business reason that requires you to run obsolete software? If the database software MUST be obsolete, what is the logic behind upgrading the operating system? (In other words - why only upgrade one?)
You need to check the following things:
    1) You have a static IP address and host name, and are NOT using DHCP;
(look at or post the result of command line "ipconfig /all")
    2) Check whether the Oracle database service and the listener service are running;
(Under "Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administration Tools > Service" or command line services.msc)
    3) Tell us how well the listener is running;
    (Command line "lsnrctl status")

  • TNS 12549 error on installing Oracle 10g on Windows XP Home?

    Hi,
I installed Oracle 10g on Windows XP Home by clicking on Disk1\install\setup (NOT Disk1\setup as instructed since that did not work). Everything seemed to go fine except towards the end of the install I got a whole bunch of errors saying that "operating system resource quota exceeded". There were options to Ignore or Abort at most of these stages. I chose Ignore and the whole install seemed to complete but I am not able to connect to the database using sqlPlus. I looked at the log files created where I saw a whole bunch of errors in several files. For example in sqlnet log, I saw this error (among others) appeneded below. It seems obvious that some resource quotas were exceeded but I am not able to figure out exactly what quotas should be increased. Any help regarding this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

XP Home is not supported, despite of this some people get oracle to work.
But in your case, possibly your machine has simply not enough resources, 12549 is a very generic error. Check the hardware requirements in the installation guide.

  • Oracle 8i on Windows XP

Sorry about the triple posting -- let's hope I got it right this time :)
I have been trying to set up Oracle 8i on Windows XP. I bought the CD pack ---- Oracle Database 8i for Windows NT/95/98. However I have not been able to get anything to work. For example typing "scott" "tiger" "dba" into SQLPLUS gives me an ORA-12154 error message ie TNS: could not resolve service name. Could someone give me some tips on how to solve this problem please?
    Deborah

I tried this but got an ORA-12560 TNS protocol adapter error.
I am now using 9i on XP but still having the same trouble I had before of being unable to use any of the applications.
Thanks in advance for any other suggestions you can offer.
    Deborah
Please try not to enter the host name, just enter the "scott" and "tiger" to its designated field.

  • Install Oracle VM on WIndows 2003 Sevser/XP/Vista

Has any one successfully installed Oracle VM on WIndows 2003 Server or XP or Vista?
Is it possible to migrate an exisitng Oracle Express Edition database to Oracle VM? Or the Oracle Express Edition has to be installed on Oracle VM on one platform before it is portable to another machine/server.
Is there any viewlet on how to use Oracle VM?

To answer your first question: Oracle VM Server can NOT be installed on Windows.
    From the OVM-FAQ:
Does Oracle VM require a host operating system?
No. Oracle VM installs directly on server hardware and does not require a host operating system.
This applies to the VM Server. For the VM Manager:
The Oracle VM Manager works on the operating system Oracle Enterprise Linux 4 Update 5 or later.
FYI - these servers are all Linux-based.
You might check the documentation in the "Virtualization Technology Center": http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/virtualization/index.html to find some more answers.

  • Oracle ASM on Windows

I think I may need some help getting the storage for my ASM right. I changed companies recently and the new place is a Windows house so the Oracle databases are all on 2008 R2 machines. I have run Oracle RAC on both physical and virtual before, but only in Linux/Unix environments (which so far I still prefer) so I'm still learning some of the ins and outs. This company is also looking at moving to RAC, so ASM is in the mix. To begin my testing, I have set up an ASM instance for a single host which will eventually become a development hub holding several databases. However, even before I've set up any databases, the host is locking up. I suspect it has something to do with the disk configuration in that while the lock ups have occurred while the vm is idling, several lock-ups have happened when I try to drop a disk from within the asmca utility. I followed the documentation that Oracle provided for Windows platforms, but this documentation of course does not offer insight into storage virtualization on vmware.
    Here is my configuration:
    VMware: vSphere 5.5
    OS: Windows 2008 R2 Standard
    Memory: 12G
    Storage: OS: 60G; ASM: 20G, 5G, 5G
Oracle Grid: 11.2.0.4 (plus January 2014 CPU)
Oracle Database: 11.2.0.4 (plus January 2014 CPU)
Other details (maybe important, maybe not):
    1) I have a large pages enabled
    2) Disks are thin-provisioned. As a side-note, I've always thick-provisioned my ASM disks, but our Sr. IT admin has made a policy that all disks are to be thin-provisioned for efficiency. I'm not sure if this could cause an issue.
    3) The 3 ASM disks are running using the Paravirtualized SCSI driver
    4) The host also has an OEM 12c Agent installed and running.
I'm new to the Windows platform when it comes to Oracle (I've administered plenty of SQL Server DBs), but the lockups don't appear to be generating any kind of data to any logs.

I'll elaborate a bit more. The host is "locked up" in that you can ping it, but if you try to log in by RDP or through the vmware console, it doesn't generate your desktop. Also, whatever is happening on the server is keeping the agent, listener, etc, from reporting to OEM. Lastly, if an RDP session is open, then you'll get the "disconnected from session... attempting to reconnect... " message. The only way to get it out of this state is to tell the hypervisor to reset the system.
Now, as for logs, there is nothing in the asm alert log. The most recent trace file generated is from an rbal event around the time of the lockup, but there aren't any similar traces during the others.
I've checked the windows event logs for errors as well. In the application event log, there was an agent fault during the most recent lock up, but there wasn't one for the previous occurrences. I'm thinking it's more effect, than cause. Nothing listed in the server logs. I have asked the sysadmins to look at the vmware logs, but they're a little challenged in that area and I'm finding I need to provide guidance on issues.
