Oracle VM Server 2.1 issue

Hello,
I am in the process of installation of OEL 5.3 on my oracle VM Server. I am following below link:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/ovm/ovmel5pvmdb11gr1/ovmel5pvmdb11gr1.htm
I have completed first 14 steps successfully. In the "Creating a paravirtualized machine with Oracle Enterprise Linux 5" section i am at 4th point :
what is the install location? and i am giving nfs:192.168.1.2:/el/EL5-x86
but i am getting error of around 6-7 lines; which can'nt be copied and pasted here.
When i says nfs:localhost:/el/EL5-x86; the same error.
I have installed fresh oracle vm on this machine and ip configured by service-config-network for eth0. I am getting pint result fine (ping 192.168.1.2).
After reading the docs and other links, i am not able to proceed further, please help to resolve the issue.
Regards

    Candy,
    all this steps are not necessary... and apachectl is deprecated.
    Simply go to $ORACLE_INSTANCE/bin and start your OHS with *./opmnctl startall*. (It also sets all your ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_INSTANCE, COMPONENT_TYPE, COMPONENT_NAME values).

  • [Upgrading to 2.1.0.63.73] JDK 1.6 and Oracle 10 server XP 32 issue

    Hi,
    I wonder if I will still be able to use Oracle 10 server if I install JDK 1.6 (mandatory to upgrade SqlDeveloper) ?
    Here is the output of java -version in the Oracle server directory
    D:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\jdk\bin>java -version
    java version "1.4.2_08"
    Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_08-b03)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_08-b03, mixed mode)
    And in the Sqldeveloper directory
    D:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\sqldeveloper\jdk\jre\bin>java -version
    java version "1.5.0_06"
    Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_06-b05)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_06-b05, mixed mode)
    Is it sure to trust the install to place java 1.6 in the sqldeveloper\jdk\bin directory?
    Many thanks if you can help

    If you're worried about messing up other software, why not download the SQL Developer bundled with the JDK? It resides inside the SQLDeveloper folder and to my knowledge it won't interfere with any of your other JDK installs.
    You'll want to put newer installs of SQL Developer in their own folder, and not in the existing SQL Developer Folder.

  • Using Oracle BI Server as a Data Source for Third Party Tools

    I have been researching how to use the Oracle BI Server as a data source for two days now. I have not yet found a solution to my problem.
    We have a remote user who is pulling data from one of our Oracle databases using automated tools. This data base is essentially being replaced by Oracle Analytics. However, we do not want this user to get at the physical tables of Analytics, rather, we want the user to be able to connect to the Oracle BI Server itself, and issue Logical SQL to pull data.
    Here are the requirements which I need to be fulfilled:
    1) The ability for a remote user to connect to the BI Server as a data source.
    2) The remote user must be able to do this on a Unix box.
    3) The remote user must be able to automate the process of issuing SQL to the BI Server. (Command line interface is preferable)
    4) The solution needs to be easily implementable, that is, this solution will be implemented many times over.
    I found many articles explaining how to set up a Windows box to connect to the BI Server in this way. However, these articles outline how to use tools like Excel and Microsoft Query to pull data from the BI Server. Our current user is using SQLplus.
    If possible, I would like the user to continue using SQLplus as the tool for connecting to and retriving information from our BI Server. I have tested using SQLplus many different ways to no avail. I have also tried using other tools, such as Oracle SQL Developer.
    Is there a program out there that will fulfill the needs I have outlined above? Or, does someone know of a way to use SQLplus to connect to the Oracle BI Server as a data source? Or, is there a series of solutions which will fulfill the needs outlined above?

    I agree it would be inefficient but only because you are using OBIEE for something it was not designed to do. You are basically asking for a "DB feed" and that should designed using PL/SQL, DB Links, Web Services or whatever is your entreprise standard to send data from one system to another. Using OBIEE for this seems a bad architecture decision to me.You are correct, the BI Server is not really intended to be queried like another Oracle Database remotely. However, the reason we are trying to do it this way is twofold:
    1) We want to enforce data level security.
    2) The BI Server has been fine tuned for high performance.
    Forcing the end users to go through the BI Server rather than directly to the physical tables or other sorts of systems built on top solves both of these issues.
    I think you are wrong. I don't see why SQLPlus should be able to query the BI Server. The BI Server can sit on top of many different DBs not just Oracle, even flat files etc. So you can't really expect the BI Server to able to translate all that into Oracle SQL output so you can query it using SQLPlus. The BI Server is not an Oracle RDBMS.You're right again. The BI Server isn't an Oracle RDBMS, and I have been wanting to treat it like one. From the data I have gathered SQLPlus can't query the BI Server.
    However, my research has led me to realize that the BI Server supports the JDBC API. Therefore, (I should have went down this route in the first place) one can use the JDBC driver provided by Oracle (bijdbc14.jar) to interface with the BI Server. There are many programs and applications out there that support the JDBC API and let us connect to BI Server the way we want to. Furthermore, these programs are mostly platform independent, as they are mostly written in Java.
    Lastly, from what I understand the NQCMD program can be installed on any platform as well (provided by Oracle). This is another option to connect to the BI Server as well.
    Thanks for your help and your comments as I went through this process of discovery.

  • CSS keepalives for Oracle forms server

    I'm trying to set up load balancing for oracle forms server and having issues with finding working keepalive method.
    If I use uri keepalive, Oracle forms server crashes within a couple of minuites. TCP doesn't work either
    service Ora-forms:9000
    ip address 192.168.0.34
    port 9000
    keepalive type http
    keepalive uri "/alive.gif"
    keepalive frequency 30
    It works for Oracle web server tho.
    What keepalive do you guy use for Forms server?

    Here is what a script looks like using the "graceful" close approach..Graceful is at the bottom.

  • Issues with Oracle VM Server 3.2.2

    We're beginning to use Oracle VM Server 3.2.2 but we're having several different issues. Any help would be appreciated
    1) Attempting to start a VM, the VM doesn't always start correctly. Console is giving us the following (when using xm create):
    --- 8< cut >8 ---
    PCI: Warning: Cannot find a gap in the 32bit address range
    PCI: Unassigned devices with 32bit resource registers may break!
    i8042: No controller found
    drivers/rtc/hctosys.c: unable to open rtc device (rtc0)
    G
    --- 8< cut >8 ---
    At this point, the VM hangs and doesn't go any further.
    If we use "xl create" we get a different set of messages:
    --- 8< cut >8 ---
    xc: error: do_evtchn_op: HYPERVISOR_event_channel_op failed: -1: Internal error
    xc: error: do_evtchn_op: HYPERVISOR_event_channel_op failed: -1: Internal error
    xc: error: panic: xc_dom_boot.c:159: xc_dom_boot_mem_init: can't allocate low memory for domain: Out of memory

    cannot (re-)build domain: -3
    libxl: error: libxl.c:711:libxl_domain_destroy non-existant domain 94
    --- 8< cut >8 ---
    It's odd that we're getting Out of memory errors as these systems have 192gb of ram and at the time have 180gb or so free.
    total_memory : 196582
    free_memory : 185336
    2) When the VM does finally start, it's unable to restart gracefully. From /var/log/xen/xend.log we're seeing a message saying the system restarted too fast if we reboot it within a minute:
    --- 8< cut >8 ---
    [2013-06-03 18:16:23 4471] ERROR (XendDomainInfo:2265) VM XXXXXXXXX restarting too fast (Elapsed time: 41.631991 seconds). Refusing to restart to avoid loops.
    --- 8< cut >8 ---
    We've never had this before using previous versions of Oracle VM Server, but this was back in Xen 3 days. Is this time a tunable anywhere?
    If the system has been up for a bit and we reboot we get this error:
    --- 8< cut >8 ---

  • Oracle Report Server Issue with Japanese Characters

    We are trying to setup a Oracle Report Server to print the Japanese characters in the PDF format.
    We have separate Oracle Report servers for printing English, Chinese and Vietnamese characters in PDF formats using Oracle Reports in the production which are running properly with Unix AIX version 5.3. Now we have a requirement to print the Japanese characters. Hence we tried to setup the new server for the same and the configurations are done as same as Chinese/Vietnamese report servers. But we are not able to print the Japanese characters.
    I am providing the details which we followed to configure this new server.
    1.     We have modified the reports.sh to map the proper NLS_LANG (JAPANESE_AMERICA.UTF8) and other Admin folder settings.
    2.     We have configured the new report server via OPMN admin.
    3.     We have copied the arialuni.ttf to Printers folder and we have converted this same .ttf file in AFM format. This AFM file has been copied to $ORACLE_HOME/guicommon/gk/JP_Admin/AFM folder.
    4.     We have modified the uifont.ali (JP_admin folder) file for font subsetting.
    5.     We have put an entry in JP_admin/PPD/datap462.ppd as *Font ArialUnicodeMS: Standard "(Version 1.01)" Standard ROM
    6.     We have modified the Tk2Motif.rgb (JP_admin folder) file for character set mapping (Tk2Motif*fontMapCs: iso8859-1=UTF8) as we have enabled this one for other report servers as well.
    Environment Details:-
    Unix AIX version : 5300-07-05-0831
    Oracle Version : 10.1.0.4.2
    NLS_LANG : JAPANESE_AMERICA.UTF8
    Font Mapping : Font Sub Setting in uifont.ali
    Font Used for Printing : arialuni.ttf (Font Name : Arial Unicode MS)
    The error thrown in the rwEng trace (rwEng-0.trc) file is as below
    [2011/9/7 8:11:4:488] Error 50103 (C Engine): 20:11:04 ERR REP-3000: Internal error starting Oracle Toolkit.
    The error thrown when trying to execute the reports is…
    REP-0177: Error while running in remote server
    Engine rwEng-0 crashed, job Id: 67
    Our investigations and findings…
    1.     We disabled the entry Tk2Motif*fontMapCs: iso8859-1=UTF8 in Tk2Motif.rgb then started the server. We found that no error is thrown in the rwEng trace file and we are able to print the report also in PDF format… (Please see the attached japarial.pdf for your verification) but we are able to see only junk characters. We verified the document settings in the PDF file for ensuring the font sub set. We are able to see the font sub setting is used.
    2.     If we enable the above entry then the rwEng trace throwing the above error (oracle toolkit error) and reports engine is crashed.
    It will be a great help from you if you can assist us to resolve this issue…

    Maybe 7zip or another tool has workarounds for broken file names, you could try that.
    Or you could try to go over the files in the zip archive one-by-one and write it to files out-1, out-2, ..., out-$n without concerning yourself with the file names. You could get file endings back via the mimetype.
    This script might work:
    #include <stdio.h>
    #include <zip.h>
    static const char *template = "./out-%04d.bin";
    int main(int argc, char**argv)
    int err = 0;
    zip_t *arc = zip_open((const char*)argv[1], ZIP_RDONLY, &err);
    if(arc == NULL)
    printf("Failed to open ZIP, error %d\n", err);
    return -1;
    zip_int64_t n = zip_get_num_entries(arc, 0);
    printf("%s: # of packed files: %d\n", argv[1], n);
    for(int i = 0; i < n; i++)
    zip_stat_t stat;
    zip_stat_index(arc, i, ZIP_FL_UNCHANGED, &stat);
    char buf[stat.size];
    char oname[sizeof(template)];
    zip_file_t *f = zip_fopen_index(arc, (zip_int64_t)i, ZIP_FL_UNCHANGED);
    zip_fread(f, (void*)&buf[0], stat.size);
    snprintf(&oname[0], sizeof(template), template, i);
    FILE *of = fopen(oname, "wb");
    fwrite(&buf[0], stat.size, 1, of);
    printf("%s: %s => %lu bytes\n", argv[1], oname, stat.size);
    zip_fclose(f);
    fclose(of);
    zip_close(arc);
    return 0;
    Compile with
    gcc -std=gnu99 -O3 -o unzip unzip.c -lzip
    and run as
    ./unzip $funnyzipfile
    You should get template-named, numbered output files in the current directory.

  • Migration from Oracle App Server 10.1.3.5 to WebLogic 12 - Expected issues?

    Hi all,
    the company I work for wants to migrate its Oracle Application Server 10.1.3.5 (with JRE 1.6) to WebLogic 12 and we need to guess which kind of remediation could be needed to have all web-apps still working.
    The concerned applications are using dated technologies:
    direct JDBC connections to db
    JPA 1.0
    connection pools with Oracle JDBC drivers
    some apps are compiled with Java 1.4, some others with Java 1.6
    servlet 2.3
    JSP 2.0
    We do not expect to come accross big issues but I'm not skilled on this kind of matters so I would like to receive seggestions or alerts from experts. Any remark will be appreciated.
    Thank you all.
    Regards,
    Luca

    Hi Luca,
        It would be better if you asked this question in the Application Server forum which should be at this URL -

    NFS was the only one file type recognized by the discovery process...I am quite new to virtualization, actually spent last whole week trying and fixing one or other issue with the VM server :D
    If you know how I could avoid NFS in the entire scenario (as this is just for learning purpose) I would be grateful :)

  • Oracle Application Server 10g thread stuck issue.

    We are having,
    Oracle Application Server 10g [10.1.3.1 + 10.1.3.4patch] along with Oracle Http Server 2.0
    Now there is a issue of thread stuck [some application threads taking longer times] due to which the application server is unable to respond and sometimes it reinits the oc4j instance.
    => Is there any setting to increase the Thread Stuck Time in OAS.
    => Is there any setting to stop the auto reinit of oc4j instance.
    => Does the auto re init of oc4j get logged in opmn.log as well as in service.log.
    It will be really helpful if any advice on the same.
    Thanks in advance...
    ManojC

    Look in httpd.conf file anything that is like thread in there you will find a simple description of the Directives.

  • Oracle Application server related issue

    My application is developed using Oracle Developer suite 10g (10.1.2.0.2 ) and deployed in Oracle Application Server 10g R2 (10.1.2.0.2) in windows 2003 32 bit and its working fine.
    My issue is as follows
    1. Since Oracle Application Server 10g R2 (10.1.2.0.2) is not supported in windows 2008 64 bit, pls advise what version of Application Server 10g i should use. Please note that my
    programs are developed using Oracle Developer suite 10g (10.1.2.0.2 ).
    2. If i want to move to next development version (ie forms / Reports 11g) , which version of application server should i use.
    Joe

    The 2nd disk is Companion CD. It contains the install files for other components.
    For instance, If you want to install Oracle HTTP Server only, then you use the companion CD to do so. It has many other individual installations.

    Hi,
    I am trying to install Oracle Applicaiton server on linux and i have installed it on similar boxes before without any issues, however this time around after i am done with the installation, it is not showing me the enterprise console. It gives a successful installation message but with the following message.
    Application Server Control Console is not running in this instance of Oracle Application Server. You can manage this instance remotely through another instance of Oracle Application Server that is configured to run Application Server Control Console.
    What should I do to get the admin console. I also looking around and saw but emctl utitlity is not there in ORACLE_HOME/bin

    the 10.1.3.1 version does not use emctl
    if you do a opmnctl status -app you can see your applications, one of them is ascontrol
    you can reach the emconsole through http://hostname:7777/em
    to start you can issue opmnctl startproc application=ascontrol
    reg

  • Oracle VM Server 2.2.2 installation issue

    I'm having an issue installing Oracle VM Server 2.2.2 on an HP desktop PC for testing purposes.
    When I boot off the CD and press 'Enter' to begin the installation, the system hangs after what appears to be probing the PCI hardware:
    PCI: If a device doesn't work, try "pci=routeirq"...
    I've tried passing several kernal paramters, such as acpi=off pci=nomsi ignore_loglevel initcall_debug
    With the initcall_debug on the last line is:
    Calling initcall 0xc0704a2c: pcibios_init+0x0/0x78()
    I've tried disabling several things in the BIOS, e.g. extra PCI options, using IDE emulation for SATA etc.
    I can install Oracle Enterprise Linux release 5 on the same PC, so I'm wondering what the difference is.
    Any ideas?
    It's a fairly typical workstaion - HP 8200 with Intel i7, 8GB of memory, 500GB SATA drive, onboard graphics.

    The solution was to boot with:
    linux acpi=off pci=nobios
