Oracle Wallet Manager and Grid Control

Can you use OWM for Grid Control? Or is it more recommended to use WebLogic?
I am unable to log into EM due to certificate issues (unless I create an exception in my browser). I have my certificates generated and have put them in OWM...but I'm still having no luck. I'm not sure if I'm even supposed to be using OWM for EM...
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

By default certificate generate/set during installation, it seems your installation is not successful. please check

If yes, what should I do?In Oracle terms, there is a world of difference between Installing and Configuring.
If you want to Install Database Control to a different location, the answer is basically 'No' (from what I can tell).
If you want to Configure Database Control at a different time than the database, then you use emca. However, it depends on the ORACLE_HOME of the database and generally can not be configured to a differnert location or computer. That is one reason for using Gr\id Control.

  • Oracle Wallet Manager won't allow me to create a certificate request

    Hello,
I am trying to setup my installation with SSL, I am trying to create a certificate request on Oracle Wallet Manager and I keep getting this error:
"Could not create certificate request. Please check user information"
I am entering the following information:
    Common Name: portal.grupoalsea.com.mx
    Organizational Unit: Desarrollo
Organization: Sistema Integral de Administracion, S.A. de C.V.
    Locality/City: Distrito Federal
    State/Province: Mexico
    Country: Mexico
    Key Size: 1024 bits
Why could this be happening? Does Oracle Wallet Manager go and look for my info some place? Common Name is the name for my site on WebCache, which is in turn mapped to the HTTP Server called Mservicio.localdomain.
At this point, I have also tried setting the Common Name to other values, like the name of my HTTP Server, the name of my HTTP server without the "localdomain", but I still get the same message.
Any help will be really appreciated!!!!

Problem was due to a bug that won't allow to enter commas in Organization Name. All we needed to do is remove the comma from the Organization name and the certificate was correctly created.

  • Oracle Wallet Manager question..

    Hello,
I have a question on Oracle Wallet Manager and will appreciate if you can help me with this:
In our environment, there are distributed databases and background processes running on different systems ( windows NT and SGI IRIX ) the application uses Oracle Background processes which have Database account names and login to processes running on different machines..
In an environment which has 250+ systems, changing passwords every 60 days or so becomes very cumbersome and problematic: If one network link is down, the password change is not done on one system and the next time the application tries to access a remote process it does not work..
Currently, the password changes are restricted to once a year ..
In the long run, it would be a better solution to replace this set-up with a industry standard secure architecture (i.e. one using PKI tokens, Certificate Authority etc..)
Currently, I am looking at Oracle Wallet Manager as a possible solution .. will appreciate, if you can give me some feedback, whether this will be feasible ..
    Thank you ..
    --osman

I would like to share my idea.
Use Oracle Internet Directory (LDAP), single sign-on, SSL (Oracle Wallet), keberos and Windows Native Authentication.
    Check OracleAS 10g (10.1.2) documentations.
We did all the above which were included in the the integration of OracleAS 9.0.4 with Oracle Applications 11.5.10.

See the Metalink Note *Impact Document for Daylight Saving Time Shift for Enterprise Manager Grid Control [ID 417939.1]* Appendix B - FAQ - point 18
What is the impact of not patching the JDK on the OMS for 10g Grid Control?
If you do not patch the JDK on the OMS page refreshed times and possibly other times displayed in the console will be incorrect (they will be off by 1 hour) during an affected period.
Oracle strongly recommends that you do patch the OMS JDK but we are not aware of any data corruption in the repository nor of any impact on critical EM functionalities (such as severities, notifications and jobs) when the JDK is not patched.

  • Installing Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Using an Existing Database

I want to install Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control 10.2.0.3 using an existing database. This database is RAC 10.2.0.2. and I use it as Infrastructure Metadata Repository.
I is said in Oracle documentation that SYSMAN schema has to be dropped, thus Database console repository has to be dropped. As far as I understand after Grid Control installation I will not be able to use Database console for my RAC 10.2.0.2 Infrastructure Metadata Repository database. I will be able to use only Grid Control for this database.
Am I right? Could you give me any advice about Installing Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Using an Existing Database?

  • Installing 10g and Grid control together on Windows Server 2003

    Hi all,
I've been having some trouble installing both the Grid Control and Oracle 10g together on a Windows Server 2003 box.
Here's the steps I've followed (if im stepping away from the norm, please tell me.. i REALLY need to do this properly without any hacks.. right now im on a test box.. but soon enough I have to do it in a live production environment and I really need a clean install).
I had a copy of Oracle 9i installed - my databases are pretty small.. 1.5Gb at most and I have been advised to just do an export and import them back in later.. which is fine by me..
I uninstalled Oracle 9i, making sure to check all the environment variables were clear and the registry settings were gone.
I ran the grid control setup
    Set Home name = Ora10gGC
    Set home path = C:\Oracle\Ora10gGC
I selected Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Using a New database 10.1.3.0
I set my passwords, and then set the global database name as emrep (the default)
All the optional configuration assistants ran successfull
Once this was all done and the install was finished, I restarted the server
Then I inserted the Oracle 10g cd
    I ran 10g setup
    Click Advanced installation
    Set home name = Ora10g
    Set home path = C:\Oracle\Ora10g
    I selected Enterprise edition
    Selected General purpose database
    I got the following message:
The ORACLE_HOME environment variable is current set. This will prevent proper use of Multiple Oracle Homes and since it is not required for any Oracle products to function, it will be unset in your environment.
I set the global database name on my starter database to STARTER, I selected Use Grid Control for Database Management and set my paths and passwords, then I clicked install.
The install worked up till it tried to create the starter database, then it failed with an ORA-12560 error.
I checked the environment variables and it seems that ORACLE_HOME wasn't unset after all. I deleted it from my environment variables and restarted the server, but I still get the ORA-12560 error when i try to create a new database.
I'd really appreciate it if someone could tell me how to install these 2 products together properly.. Thanks!

I suggest you to read Metalink Note:344537.1 "Installing EM 10g Grid Control Fails to Start the TNSListener Due to Environment Settings"
Additionaly could you post the fragment from alert.log and listener.log files, so more diagnostic information can be provided on this issue.

  • Oracle Database management and monitoring tools

    hello everyone.
Could anyone offer any advice on Oracle database management tools ?
looking for a 3rd party tool that would provide graphical representation on health and activity within Oracle databases.
Any recommendations , or advice on what to avoid?
    Many thanks

Thanks , have enterprise manager already.
Really looking for tool that will email , sms alerts
    out as they happen.
    Ability to set threshold alerts.
    report creation of threshold data.
that kind of thing etc.Since you want to pay extra for this capability, look at the Diagnostics Pack add-on for Enterprise Manager. It does what you ask. And makes it available both on Database Control and Grid Control view.
And both Database Control and Grid Control are included in your SE/EE license.
