Oracle Web Developer Survey
Hi all,
I'm doing a survey of Oracle web developers as part of some postgrad studies at the University of Paisley, Scotland, and is basically aimed at discovering which web development methods are used by Oracle web developers, and why they are used. In the other forums I have approached, they have all permitted the posting of this survey, but I have not been able to contact a moderator here, so I hope this is OK to post. The more reponses I get, the more useful the survey, so for anyone with Oracle web dev experience who would be able to take the 5 minutes required to complete the survey, I would really appreciate it. I will, of course, post the survey results here in this thread once it is complete and the results have been analysed.
The link for the survey is here:
http://www.oraclewebsurvey.org.uk
Again, many thanks for your time, and thanks to the moderators for allowing this post.
Best Regards,
Angus Nicolson
My sincere thanks to those who have already responded to this survey (over half the responses to the survey have come from the Oracle Forums). The survey remains open until Friday, and any further reposnses before this date will be greatly appreciated. I will be posting the results of the survey in this thread in around three weeks time.
Again, many thanks,
Sincerely,
Angus Nicolson, University of Paisley

Calling a Web Service in Oracle Report Developer 10g?
Hello,
Does Oracle Report Developer 10g supports Web Services (calls) or XML files as a Data Source?
If yes. From what version?
Thanks.ok, so you have at least 2 solutions:
1. you get the data into a loop through your Java array.
2. you use the EXEC_SQL package function to create a dynamic SQL cursor
Select ... from the_table where code in ('c1', ..., 'cn')Francois -

Visual Web Developer 2010 Express and Oracle ODAC - Oracle data provider
system - xp pro
Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2010 Express and Oracle ODAC112021.
I can't seem to get the ODAC to work correctly with the Web Developer Express. When putting in a gridview I only see the standard adapters. The one from Oracle does not appear. I have spent days trying to figure out why but no luck. No one else seems to have this problem. I do not see any errors when I installed the ODAC. I've followed a few tutorials.
http://weblogs.asp.net/nannettethacker/archive/2010/09/17/installing-oracle-data-access-components-odac.aspx
and
http://www.smart-soft-nz.com/oracle-and-asp-dot-net.html
I tried using the Windows adapters but they just don't seem to work. I can get results in the query builder but when I go to the next step in the wizard I get the constraints error. I've done all the research on that with no luck so I wanted to use the ODAC. This killing me! This really shouldn't be that hard. I've added the dll to the references but again it's just not an option. If anyone could give me a little direction that would be great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you
JohnDear Friends,
Installing SP1 and updates to it solved the first issue. So the database now seems to be of type 2008 R2.
Deleting some files solved the second issue.
However, another issue remains.
My most important projects were created with a version of VWDX 2010 that was downloaded from Microsoft and installed on July 3, 2012. This version of VWDX has now been lost, because my hard drive recently ceased to function and had to be replaced.
On the new hard drive I have a version of VWDX 2010 that was downloaded yesterday (May 28, 2014). As indicated above, I also installed SP1 and related updates.
When I load a project that was created in the version of VWDX 2010 that was installed almost two years ago and try to open the database connection, I get, in essence, the following error message:
"The database C:\Users\...\Database.mdf cannot be opened, because it is version 661. This server supports version 655 and earlier. A downgrade path is not supported."
So it seems that the original database version was 661, whereas the version downloaded yesterday is 655. It seems very strange that a version downloaded now should be earlier than a version downloaded two years ago. Does anyone have an explanation or a solution?
Thank you all for your trouble, and best regards.
Eric (orexin)
P.S. The site from which I obtained VWDX yesterday was:
www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/en-us/products/2010-editions/visual-web-developer-express and the executive was called VWD2010SP1AzurePack.exe. -

Hi all,
I was looking to find a moderator to ask this, but I can't. I'm currently doing postgrad work, and as part of it, I need to do a survey of Oracle web deelopers to see which methods they use for development, and why. Was wondering if it might be OK to post it here (say in the App Server forum), as this would be by far the best place to get a potentially large response of the target group. I don't see any rules against it, but as I say, there's no moderator to ask, so any advice would be appreciated.
Best Regards,
Angus
P.S. Of course, I would later make a link in the thread available to the results.Hello again,
It would be really great if I could get some feedback from someone who has a kind of moderator role? I've posted this survey to the ORA FAQs forum (the moderators permitted a cross posting in the relevant forums), and also in the UKOUG newsletter, and I was wondering if anyone knows if I could post the link in the relevant forums here. I've posted it in the App Server forum, but if I could post a single thread in the Forms, Portal, JDeveloper and Designer forums as well, I would be able to get a far larger number of responses, and hance it would make for a more useful comparison. If anyone who knows if this would be permitted could let me know, I would really, really appreciate it.
The survey is here, if you want to check its suitability:

Not able to connect VS Web Developer Express through instant client 10
I just spent 10 hours attempting to connect Web Developer Express 2010 to an Oracle 10g database. In the end the solution was beyond simple, but with the existing threads there is a lot of talking around the problem. I’m posting this in case it might help someone else.
Obtain the Oracle instant client software that will work for your database. You will only need the basic package.
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/instant-client/index-100365.html
Extract the contents to a temp location on your hard disk
Create a directory for the application – it could be anything, but here is what I used
C:\instantclient
Copy the extracted files into the directory you just created.
Right click on my computer and choose properties
Under advanced and environment variables you will need to add the directory you created above to the system variables PATH. You will need to create a new system variable called TNS_ADMIN and put the same c:\instantclient path in it.
Create the file tnsnames.ora under the c:\instantclient directory and put your customized entry in it. Below is an example.
tnsnams.ora file contents
<Alias for this tnsnames entry> =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = <Your Oracle Server>)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = <Your database instance>)
It’s a good idea to restart your system after this installation.
In web developer express use the .NET Framework Data Provider for OLE DB.
Here is the key piece of information!!
Under server name you need to use the alias from the tnsnames.ora file entry. If you do not do this it will not pick up the SERVICE_NAME parm and will give you some goofy error like:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener could not resolve SERVICE_NAME given in connect descriptor
or
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptorI just spent 10 hours attempting to connect Web Developer Express 2010 to an Oracle 10g database. Error while running application under Oracle Web logic server 10.3
Hi all,
I am using Oracle Web logic server 10.3 to run reports(CR4E).when at the time of adding server in to crystal report application
i had taken Application Development Support Then at run time it is showing following error message
com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.lib.ReportSDKException---- Error code:-2147467259 Error code name:failed
How to Solve these critical problem
Thanks ,
Amol PatilHi Rahul,
Server logs may contain JDK warnings such as the following if the jdk folder is an mklink.
*[WARN ][osal ] Could not add counter (null)\ for query*
*[WARN ][osal ] Failed to init virtual size counter.*
These are just warnings and do not affect any servers.
Workaround
To suppress these warnings, add the following line in the FRAMEWORK_LOCATION\provisioning\provisioning-plan\fusionapps_start_params.properties file
-Xverbose:osal=error
You can even try the solution provided in below link

Invoking a web service not created using oracle web service lib
Hi All,
I have a need to invoke my web service from oracle sql command. My web service not created using oracle web service library, but it is created using axis c++ libraries. Is it possible to do so,
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
MonicaIn order to call out from the database process, is SQL (or PL/SQL) you need to generate some client code, that understand the details about the specific of the service you want to invoke and can produce the correct SOAP request. Once this proxy is uploaded in the Database, you can use it.
There is a set of Database Web services samples that should help you get started. You can also take a look at the developer's guide - see Developing a Web Service Client in the Database.
Hope it answers your question.

If you haven't been paying attention to early adopters of Project Raptor there it is - production release of Oracle SQL Developer, outstanding database development tool. It works very well with XE and if you're somehow reluctant to web interface or too ascetic sqlplus, you shall certainly like it. Very useful and at no charge.
Oracle SQL Developer is a new, free graphical tool that enhances productivity and simplifies database development tasks. With SQL Developer, you can browse database objects, run SQL statements and SQL scripts, and edit and debug PL/SQL statements. You can also run any number of provided reports, as well as create and save your own.
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/index.htmlI use SQL Developer for SQL and PL/SQL and only use SQL*Plus for the few commands that don't work in SQL Developer.
SQL Developer has a forum, too. -
Parsing a string in Oracle Reports Developer
What this will be used for is just to have a web page allow input of the name and PID so that a simple printout of those items will show up on the .rdf.
I have a string named "Remote_Host" stored in a txt file:
https://my.portal.shands.ufl.edu/portal/page/portal/SHCEMPAUTH&fNAME=ITH,MARY&PID=100000958135
What I need from that string is Name =ITH,MARY AND PID = 100000958135
How do I do this in Oracle Reports developer utilizing the progam unit?user2033058 wrote:
I appreciate your help - I am new to this so I really don't know what I am doing.
This is what I have - Let me know if it is correct. Currently when I compile it there is an error stating: Encountered the symbol ">" when expecting %Well hopefully my other example has made it a little clearer for you.
Please note, when you post code on the forum, put {noformat}{noformat} before and after the code so that it keeps it's formatting properly. ;)

Agonized all day and missed the sale: Can anyone explain SSD Reliability?
I cannot believe it. I thought I was going to buy a new MacBook Pro today, but I could not make the decision between a 500 GB, 7,200 RPM HDD and a 512 GB SSD. Price - Doesn't matter Performance - Could care less Durability - Eh? The one thing that I

Are there such things as Read Triggers in Oracle 8i? My requirement is to write an entry to a transaction table every time a user views a row in a billable table (i.e. a pay-per-view system). It occurs to me that a row-level trigger based on the user
