Oracle web site - Your site needs help

I somewhat new Oracle and being a developer for years and using software vendor web sites to get things can be challenging.
However, Oracle is one of the worst web sites I have ever seen.
I am trying to download the Oracel Client (Yeah...where the heck is it??) and haven't found it for over 30 minutes.
Searching your site really stinks...it's awful!!!!!
Finding anything is like...well...you can't!
Do yourself AND especially your client(s) a favor...Make your web site easy to use...it really needs help.

I have too very really frustated by Oracle Website for several years. Just today I was trying to download the Oracle personal edition, and putting 'download' or 'oracle personal edition' in the search box, and the results are mainly white papers and tech docs. The menu option also are not really hepful, neither the site-map.
So after 30 mins, i finally got to what i was looking for. The thing is that while trying to get to the page, you get lost in the Oracle 'labyrinth' web-site and come across several interesting docs ( which i wont understand everything anyway). Its like going to the supermarket for an advertised product at $10 and you get out of the supermarket with lots of stuff at $300 you were not aiming to buy at first.
Got my point ...well, I think Oracle wants to keep its website as it is. A company like Oracle does not lack resources to develop a more modern, easy-to-use and quick web-site. Certainly, the website handles a lot of info and lays on Oracle Portal ( if am right) but am sure Oracle does not lack database /application server and expertise to make it quicker and better !!

Oracle XE 10g database offline need help getting it back in 11g EE

Our server crashed...completely crashed...lightning took it clean out. It was older hardware running server 2003, oracle xe 10g, so we replaced it with a newer better server running 2008r2 (64bit I might add).
I need to bring the old database, tablespaces and datafiles back online with the new server and the new instance of Oracle.
I have sucessfully installed oracle 11g EE and can create new a new database (all is online with this), but I need my old data back for PCM 13.1. I cannot find any good online documentation regarding this issue, and we are down until its corrected. Obviously just copying the data over isnt going to work, so any help is much appreciated.
I have good copies of the old hard drives with the folder structures intact, but there is no chance of getting the old OS back online without purchasing old matching hardware and just slamming the drives into it.
Basically how do I get the new instance of Oracle to open and run my older database...how do I restore it?

I did it...yay! Here's what I did...I installed a fresh copy of oracle 10g xe in my virtual xp mode. Stopped the database after installation...deleted and replaced the oradata and fast_recovery_area folders with my old data. Started the database and everything worked so far. In the server with 2008 r2 I installed 11g xe, same system password. I then installed SQL Developer on both computers (easier for me than typing out the scripts). In the XP mode 10g xe computer I did a FULL data pump export to a dump directory. I then moved the dump file to the new server and ran a data pump import, appending data if existing. First time, failed....checked the log and obviously I missed the fact the folder structure MUST be the same for the datafiles or I would have to remap (too much work). The default oradata folder is different in 10g than 11g. I created the oradata folder in 11g xe in the same location as 10g would put it and ran the import script again. BAM, it worked this time...I have my data back in 11g xe and my software was able to find it like it should. Thank you for your consideration and help...hope this helps someone else down the road.

How was this site made. Need HELP!

Hi everyone
It's the first time I post here, so I hope some will understand my problem.
I recently came upon this site http://weightshift.com and loved how they had made it dynamic or I think liquid. No mater how much it is scaled it looks great. It can be viewed on an iPhone, perfectly fitting the screen. Also when the site is scaled down and reaches a certain size, the logo jumps above the Contact and about buttons.
I am currently studying at TAFE for Cert. IV and my dreamweaver teacher has no clue. So I have to figure it out by myself.
Does anyone have any clue how this could be achieved. Any help will be appreciated.

No surprise your teacher doesnt get it. when I did the cert IV the 30 html tutorials we did revolved around how great table based layouts are. suffice to say I didnt listen to that rubbish, and unfortunately the curriculum is just a wee bit behind where it really should be.
what you are looking at is responsive design.
you wont get any real relevant information regarding this at w3schools, its more for basics.

yes technically you can use the dw fluid grid layout, but i'd advise that you learn the process behind how to style accordingly with media queries before using someones already setup concept of how to do it. (and I've never done a site with just 3 media queries, sorry dreamweaver, thats just wrong.) I personally utilise (and each to their own with this) a min 320+ style, a 320-480 (or therabouts), 480-767 (or therabouts) (3x) 768-1024 (landscape, portrait and for desktops), 1025-1300 (or therabouts), 1301-1440 (or therabouts) and a 1440+. I always start mobile first
essentially the theory is to design your "design" flexible and where it "breaks" add a breakpoint. I try to make it not necessarily based on the device in theory but with the majority of phones sitting around the 320/640 mark, tablets around the 768/1024 mark. then laptops, desktops, and larger screens all seeming to congregate loosely around these higher figures...once youve set your parameters (and the above would cover the majority of devices) test, test, test!!!!
remember good ol' IE will struggle with this. there are many work arounds, some better than other. I usually just offer a fixed width site for IE.

Deleted site...need help

ok...i don't have my time machine running yet...is there any other way i can get my site back, without redoing everything. I do have it published to a folder. Is there anyway to use that "published folder" to bring my site back or am i just screwed and have to start over from scratch...

I'm sorry there is no better answer but no there isn't... Published files and iWeb data are completely different from each other and iWeb lacks of nay html import capability...
The only way to have site showing up in iWeb is have the domain.sites2 file and double-clicking it (default location of it: user library/application support/iweb/ ).
I hope you have a backup of it somewhere... If you don't I hope you will have one next time.

Flash player site is cycling, need help

I have had a few flash player apps crashing on loading, went to check for a flash update, and http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ is not loading either. White page, stuck refreshing every second or so. Is this my end, adobe end or something in the middle?

Try this.
Type in the address bar about:config.
Accept the warning.
In the page that appears, in the Filter box, type network.http.max-connections. Change the value to 32 (which is probably set to 256 in your case).
Close that page. Restart the browser.

Success_URL in web.xml not working - Need help

Hi:
I developed my whole application in Jdeveloper 10.1.3.2 and all the security are done through custom module. Everything is working fine except one of the part that is success_url in web.xml.
1. There are total 10 pages in my application independent of each other.
2. I configured the custom login procedure and it is working fine.
3. From Jdeveloper if I run any page (i.e. one of 10 pages) it is prompting me to login and after login it is redirecting to the page I ran.
My issue is that after the login is completed as in step 3, I want the page to be redirected to predefined page called UserResp.jspx. I don't want to redirect to the page from where the login page was called. As per the notes in the ADF document, I configured the success_url in the adfAuthentication servlet as below. But after login it is not redirecting to the success_url but it is redirecting to the page from where the login was prompted.
Do I need to perform any other step for this success_url to work. Could you please guide.

Thanks for all your help regarding the adfAuthentication success_url. Now I am able to configure to make this work. But now I am facing another issue i.e. I am getting 401 Not authorized message when the success_url is pointed to the jspx page.
Note: I am using custom login module similar to DBProcOraDataSourceLoginModule so my roles are stored in the custom Role class. So I am not sure how to pass this role info to the security in ADF in order to authorize the page to be viewed.
Could you please help and can you point me to any specific link.

Having problems starting Web Services... need help!

I'm running Mac Server 10.5.7 currently configured for email and I've just decided to start hosting websites. The problem I'm having is that Web Services will fail to start with any sites configured. Web Services will start if I don't have any sites configured. I've messed around with the Terminal app using some advice from online posts, but that didn't help. I'm not even sure I did it right.

So, I've read through all the documents and tried to apply what I've learned. I must say, I dove in head first. There's a lot to digest here. Maybe I'm reading too much.
I ran the Terminal and 'sudo' command you requested. This is the result.

Since posting this question I've installed mySQL, but I'm not exactly sure what it does.
I've tried changing to the httpd.conf file, but nothing is working. All I get when I type in "localhost" is cannot "connect to web server". At least before I was getting the "apple default page".
Need some advice on how to get this all straightened out. Looks like I made a pretty good mess of things.

Deploying Forms with Forms6i/Oracle Internet Application Server 8i - need help!

Hi Gurus!
I am trying to setup the Oracle Internet Application Server 8i (Release 1.0)and deploy the forms to the web. The server is on Solaris. I have installed and configured the application server. I used the 'runform.htm'and 'test.fmx' to test the installation of the application server on the Server machine. In that case it works fine and shows the message 'Application Server is up and running'. Where as if I tried to access the same 'runform.htm'and 'test.fmx' from another client machines through a web browser it is not executing the 'test.fmx' and throws the following error:
" FRM-92060:Failed to connect to the Server. Bad machine specification:'hostname':9001"

I am using the default port#9001 to run the Forms server (i tried using another port and i got the same error). The web server is listnening on the port 7777.
I am not sure what needs to be fixed. Can someone please through some light on this?

The Oracle 8i jvm component (formerly known as JSERVER) was designed to support server side java.
This component was initially developed and included in the Oracle 8i rdbms 8.1.5.
Enhancements continued to be implemented with the 8.1.6 and 8.1.7 releases
IAS uses the same oracle 8i JVM from the rdbms to support java code on the middle tier.
Here's how the IAS version and the RDBMS version match up on the Oracle 8i jvm's features.

RDBMS 8.1.7 with IAS 1.0.2 (new name IAS 9i)

note : in another thread Mr. Devin clarified the current status of the EJB 1.1 spec (entity beans)in the 8.1.7 solaris release and the future win nt release.
If I remember correctly, Mr. Devin reported a last minute issue has delayed the support for the entity bean feature but ejb spec 1.0 / 1.1 session beans are in place.
When the entity bean issue is resolved, a software patch needed to support the entity bean feature will be provided in a rdbms patch.

Web Guy Using Swing - Need Help With jComboBox

I'm new to doing desktop Java development (come from a web application background) and am trying to accomplish migrating some of a web application's functionality to a desktop app for distribution. I'm already a bit stuck when it comes to using the jComboBox. What is intuitive to me in the web world would be to have one combo box/select box that after making a selection, it returns it's value so I could use that to run another query that would populate the next drop down menu. Populating the display of the combo box isn't the problem, that seems easy enough, but what I so far can't find is how I can attach a value to the combo box; that is for instance, having the drop down show a list of country names, and needing to have that list of country names correspond to a country code. For the web, you'd just have the option value tied to the code and the contents of the option be the name.
Is this do-able? Am I completely thinking about this in the wrong way when working in desktop GUI things? I am using NetBeans 6.0 for my GUI layout and such, don't know if that helps or hurts matters. Also currently using Java 1.5.
Any information or points in the right direction are greatly appreciated.

If I understand you correctly, you need to have a class that holds country name and country code, with a toString override method that returns just the country name (this is what the combobox shows). You then put an array of these objects in your jcombobox, obtain the selected object, get it's country code, and you're off and running.

HD video on the web? Question. Need help

We just started producing HD video. Coming from SD video. In today’s web age can’t most people in the U.S. view 720p video on the internet?
Our company produces instructional videos that get delivered to the clients by DVD but we also have moved forward to viewing online. My problem is I’m not sure how to approach my web guy about HD video over the web. I would say most of our clients have a fast connection. He is asking for all the old SD videos and me to convert them to .webm/.ogm/.mp4 so he’s doing HTML5. How does this work with HD so the client can have that as an option? He is asking for 400 kbps for our current SD videos and he gets worried when a video is like 60MB so that worries me that he doesn’t know much.
How does bitrate work with HD video? How should we provide it?

Thanks. This was my web guy's response (below). Our current videos (SD) are around 450kbps. I'm testing out exporting an H.264 720p (8 mins long) at 1.3 Mbps and the file size is only about double and looks pretty good. How should i respond? agggg
Using the HD option will eat our servers alive.
HD is typically delivered on blueray, not dvd, and your talking about 25 gigs on a blueray dvd… The web servers use more expensive hard drives to where the amount of space needed and cost would triple the hosting that we use.
With increased file size comes with increased bandwidth. Again, we use around 500-750GB a month during the busy season , if the video is 10 times the size, we will use 10 times the amount of bandwidth.
In all reality, we pay about $500 a month for our current hosting environment. If we wanted to upgrade to an environment that we can stream hd video, we’d be looking at no less than $2000-3000 a month, maybe more.

Web Conferencing Using JTAPI - Need help

Hi,
I have to work on "Web Conferencing" application, but i don't have any idea how this can be done in Java.
I heard that, JTAPI can be used for this purpose.
Please tell me anyone, is it possible to do Conferencing type of application using JTAPI.
If so what are the Requirements for that?
Do we need to use any specific kind of telephone devices??+
Give me some idea how to begin with this, and any source where i can get all the details about this.
