Oracle WebCache and OC4J automatically down.

HI,
we are running Oracle 10g Forms and Reports Server in RHEL 5.
Last night our opmn services were automatically down, and connected users were complaining that we are unable to access applications.
I just checked and restarted the opmn services and all things are working fine.
But how we can find out the root cause of WebCache and OC4J services are down?

I am trying to compare OracleADF (using JDeveloper) to another frameworks more open like JSF+EJB+Hibernate+Oracle Database.
I now the common advantages of using oracleADF (wizzards, components, etc).
Can you help me (with links or comments based on your experience) to make a SWOT. I will share my comments if I have good information.
    Is OracleADF compatible with OC4J?

  • PDF Printing without Oracle BI Publisher and OC4J

    Hi All
I am using Apex 3.1.2 on Oracle 10g XE. I am trying to enable PDF printing. But I am struck with Oracle BI and OC4J. I have read it some where (in a blog and I don't remember its name) that you can enable PDF printing without Oracle BI and OC4J.
Please let me know what I should do to enable PDF this way. Any links, document pointers greatly acknolwledged.
    Thanks in advance.
    Guru

    Hi guru,
This was the reply I had got for posting the same question some time back.
Pdf printing option without using BI Publisher can be done using PL/PDF (http://www.plpdf.com) which provides a programmatic way to generate PDF documents (it doesn't produce Word docs as far as I'm aware however).

I do not know either, but if you do nothing, then we'll never know. Hence, trying to remove the app would be in order. Also trying a different SIM.

Any idea?? I spent 2 weeks checking all parameters of http.conf but I haven't results.

Hi Roberto, this are some of the parameters on httpd.conf
    Timeout 300
    KeepAlive On
    MaxKeepAliveRequests 100
    KeepAliveTimeout 15
    MinSpareServers 5
    MaxSpareServers 20
    StartServers 5
    MaxClients 2500
    MaxRequestsPerChild 0
Putting KeepAlive to "off" what consequence my be have?
Can you suggest me some tuning?
We have a large amount of users (600) and a lot of webservice invocation with large transactions (1 to 10 sec)
    TIA

  • Oracle Linux and Automatic Installation of Oracle Related Packages

    G'day,
I recently decided to check out Oracle's Unbreakable Linux as I am/was thinking of switching to it for all my company's database deployments. What originally attracted me to Oracle Linux was that I though there would have been a kickstart, package or in the GUI install, a check box to install all of Oracle's dependencies.
When I installed it first, I manually selected a bunch of relevant packages, then installed any missing packages manually via a local YUM repository that I had made. Alas however, Oracle did not install correctly. So, I reinstalled, this time as a full install. Oracle then worked like a charm.
I also noticed, when editing /etc/sysctl.conf and /etc/securetty/limits.conf that these files had basically all ready been configured.
So, my question is, as I have had no luck using the search functionality here, is anyone aware of a kickstart argument, or an Oracle package that will install and in turn by way of dependencies, install all the necessary Oracle bits and pieces? Ideally, I would like to do this by way of kickstart as to automate as much of the process as possible.
If I can do this, then with some further testing, I will make the switch to Oracle's Linux for our Oracle deployments.
    Cheers,
    Conor

Yes, there is a great package called oracle-validated that is available that will pre-configured Oracle Enterprise Linux for installation using the Oracle Universal Installer. It ensures that things like sysctl.conf are all correct.
It should be available in the base download, so you can test it out. :)

  • DMZ pattern with single HTTP server and OC4J separated

I am new to Oracle products and I am I trying to configure 9iAS Rel 2 for a JSP/servlet project and would greatly appreciate any comments or pointers to specific documents that may be helpful.
I would like to use the DMZ pattern for a small application without clustering anything or installing Infrastructure. I would like to have just the HTTP server between the two firewalls and have the application server (hosting the business logic) and the database server (9i Rel 2) behind the second firewall. I want to keep this as simple as possible.
Is there any way to install just an HTTP server (such as Apache) in between the two firewalls and have it direct requests to the Oracle 9i (Rel 2) application server (J2EE & Web cache installation) behind the second firewall?
If that is not possible (due to the need for Oracle's HTTP server and mod_OC4J to forward requests), then I would assume that I would have to install a copy of 9iAS on the one machine between the two firewalls (so that I would have the Oracle HTTP server with mod_OC4J) and then install another copy on a machine behind the second firewall (to host the business logic). Is this correct?
With those installations in place, would I then follow the modifications that are mentioned in "Scenario C: Routing (or clustering) Instances Across Firewalls" of the 'Oracle9i Application Server: mod_oc4j Technical Overview' (i.e modify the following files opmn.xml, ons.conf mod_oc4j.conf) so that the 9iAS in between the two firewalls ignores its OC4J and forwards requests the to 9iAS behind the second firewall? (I know that this document is talking about clustering which is what I do not want to do, but I can't find any information about trying to put a single instance of a HTTP server in the DMZ while having a single instance of OC4J behind the second firewall).
Would a better approach be to install a copy of 9iAS in the DMZ and then install a stand along copy of OC4J behind the second firewall?
Does mod_oc4j automatically install with the J2EE and Web cache installation of 9iAS Rel 2?
    Thanks for your insights,
    - David

You'r on the right track. You can't install just OHS or just OC4J seperatly but you can get the end result you are looking for.
Install an iAS instance (j2ee&webcache) in the DMZ and shutdown all but the OHS process.
Instanll a second iAS instance behind your firewall an shut down all but the OC4J process.
you now have effectively what you want OHS in the DMZ and OC4J at the intranet.
Now if you follow the directions in the Mod_oc4j overview doc. You modify the ons.conf by using the dcmctl commands
    getopmnport/addopmnlink
Then you modify the mod_oc4j.conf using the instance:// tag to rouet requests from the OHS in the DMZ to the OC4J's
    in the intranet.
You will need to open ports in the firewall for the ajp traffic between OHS and the OC4J's

  • Problem running SQL PLUS in Oracle 8i and 9i on Windows XP

I've tried installing both Oracle 8.17 Personal Edition and also 9i in Windows XP Professional (each on a different occassion). I have run into the same problem each time. The installation itself goes fine in both cases, but when I run SQL PLUS, the Log On screen appears for 1-2 seconds then whole thing just closes automatically, so I can't ever access that application which is the only thing I need to work with. Any ideas on what's going wrong? Thanks.

    Patrick,
Well a few things. Did you try TNSPING to see if the listener is up? If it's ok, can you connect with FREE toad? Download Oracle OEM and install that (the SQL net and sql plus portions). If you can't get tnsping to work, sqlplus isn't going too either. I don't know why the sqplus is actually shutting down, but I'm guessing the TNS NAMES entry isnt there (in the tnsnames.ora file). If the tnsnames entry is there then tnsping should work. Get tnsping to work first.
    Tyler.

    Hi,
asm resource is depending on diskgroup resource ... if diskgroup res. is not available, crsctl status shows offline, I would expect asm should be also shown as 'offline' (and brought offline) as they are dependent.
What is the point of managing resources via srvctl when it doesn't take care of dependencies? For me it's wrong.ora.asm : is ASM Instance
    ora.*.dg : is Diskgroup
ora.*.dg is dependent of ora.asm, not to the contrary.
I can have more than one diskgroup and want only one diskgroup disabled, so I need the ASM Instance (ora.asm) online.
    Important:
If you shut down the database with SQL*Plus, Oracle Restart does not interpret this as a database failure and does not attempt to restart the database.
Similarly, if you shut down the Oracle ASM instance with SQL*Plus or ASMCMD, Oracle Restart does not attempt to restart it.
An important difference between starting a component with SRVCTL and starting it with SQL*Plus (or another utility) is the following:
When you start a component with SRVCTL, any components on which this component depends are automatically started first, and in the proper order.
When you start a component with SQL*Plus (or another utility), other components in the dependency chain are not automatically started; you must ensure that any components on which this component depends are started.
Oracle Restart also manages the weak dependency between database instances and the Oracle Net listener (the listener): When a database instance is started, Oracle Restart attempts to start the listener. If the listener startup fails, then the database is still started. If the listener later fails, Oracle Restart does not shut down and restart any database instances.
It makes no sense Oracle Restart to shut down all environment (databases) because the listener down.

    Hi,
I created a shuttle on a page and when I submit the page, which right now has no processes executing, automatically it highlights the whole shuttle and starts scrolling down the shuttle and then goes to a Page Not Found.
I have a branch to this same page.
    What is going on.. ?

There is a limit of 2000 records (as far as my experience says). Over 1000 could also be over 2000.

  • OC4J shuts down after I log off from the server !!!?

    Hi,
I have a startup batch file to start OC4J on my customer server. Usually I connect to their server from my office via terminal server (and VPN) and run this batch file as a job via scheduled jobs in WINDOWS to start OC4J. My problem is that the OC4J shuts down as soon as I log off from their server. But it stays running if I disconnect from their server.
This problem happing on a new installed server but on the old one I have not this problem. Probably it should be some parameter setting that I missed.
Would appreciate any help on this.

    java -jar oc4j.jar
This is the most basic form. But the above must always be part of the command for launching OC4J.Avi, this is so not true.
One can always starts any standalone java problem by specifying the main class, the class whose main method is the entry point:
java -classpath somePath theMainClass (since some historic time that we should not care anymore.). So it is perfectly ok to
start oc4j 9.0.4 by, after changing to the directory where oc4j.jar lives,
      java -cp oc4j.jar com.evermind.server.ApplicationServer or start oc4j 10.1.2 by
      java -cp oc4j.jar com.evermind.server.OC4JServer  or start oc4j 10.1.3 by
java -classpath oc4j.jar oracle.oc4j.loader.boot.BootStrap Here each oc4j.jar must come from an oc4j installation so that other dependent libraries will be found.
What is nice about "java -jar oc4j.jar" is that it can be used to start any version of oc4j.jar. One does not have to specific the main class, which might change over time as shown above. That is the reason why it is overwhelmingly widely seen. Avi, I would agree if you just meant to recommend that "java -jar oc4j.jar" be used instead of the above.

  • Starting/Stopping iAS and OC4J containers

I created the following two batch files to start and stop my iAS Infrastructure. I found that if I used the services settings of automatic all did not go well.
    start.bat:
    @ECHO OFF
    cls
ECHO About to start the listener
    net start Oracle9ias_InfraTNSListener
ECHO About to start the database
    net start OracleServiceIASDB
ECHO About to start the OID monitor
    e:\ora9iasinfra\bin\oidmon start
ECHO About to start the OID server
    e:\ora9iasinfra\bin\oidctl server=oidldapd configset=0 instance=1 start
ECHO About to start the website
    net start Oracle9ias_infraEMWebsite
ECHO About to start opmn and OC4j
    e:\ora9iasinfra\dcm\bin\dcmctl start -ct ohs
    e:\ora9iasinfra\dcm\bin\dcmctl start -co OC4J_DAS
    stop.bat:
    @echo off
ECHO About to stop the website
    net stop Oracle9ias_infraEMWebsite
ECHO About to stop opmn and OC4j
    e:\ora9iasinfra\dcm\bin\dcmctl shutdown
ECHO About to stop the OID server
    e:\ora9iasinfra\bin\oidctl server=oidldapd configset=0 instance=1 stop
ECHO About to stop the OID monitor
    e:\ora9iasinfra\bin\oidmon stop
ECHO About to stop the database
    net stop OracleServiceIASDB
ECHO About to stop the listener
    net stop Oracle9ias_InfraTNSListener
When I execute the batch files sometimes they work and sometimes they don't, for example after starting occasionally the Apache process has not been created, and sometimes processes won't stop.
However if I enter each command seperatly all works OK. Can anyone suggest a reason for this. Also after starting the website manager the process manager for both the infra and ias are started (I have both installed on the same machine - this works fine apart from this batch file problem.
