Oracle XDK License Question

We have a JMS subscriber application written in C++. We’d like to add XSLT processor to it. This application will use libraries in $ORACLE_HOME/lib particularly libxml10.a and other related libraries to apply XSLT onto XML messages subscribed from JMS queues. This application does not connect to any Oracle database. Is it a problem to use these libraries for this application, as far as licensing is concerned? We many CPUs of Oracle DB EE.
Thanks.

If you have a look in the Licencing book you will see that XML / XDK is not mentioned. Whatever is not explicitly excluded is included, so you do not need to purchase addition licence to use the XDK.
Cheers, APC

  • Oracle XDK License

    Hi,
If I have the runtime / production licese for Oracle Database 10g, then do I automatically get a license for Oracle XDK, 10g. Or do I have to pay more to get XDK license.
    Cheers,
    Gurpreet.

You pay extra for what's shown below. XML database comes in addition to the basic license.

  • Linux Oracle Client licensing question

If you own client license for win95/winnt do you have to pay for the client license for linux? I am not talking about additional clients, just replacing a win95 machine with linux.

Contact your Oracle sales rep. We are all volunteers and are not qualified to speak for Oracle Corp. on matters of licensing and the law in your country.

  • Oracle Licensing question (XDK samples etc)

    Hi,
How can I get proof that the XDK is covered by the Oracle Client license, or is a free download and install?
This is because in our organization for audit purposes I need to be able to show that it is free, or already covered by our license (I have Oracle client for Oracle 9i DB and ROAD)
thanks for any help or ideas
    Philip

    In answer to your questions:
    1) Yes, you do still need to purchase the OLAP option if you want to give your users access to multi-dimensional data. If you do not intend to provide this feature then there is no requirement to purchase OLAP.
    2) Oracle BI10g is a pre-packed installation of products focused purely on Business Intelligence. The products that form the BI10g package are powerful new versions of BI products. Discoverer has been significantly upgraded and has a new user experience along with a host of new features. Also included is a new product called OLAP Spreadsheet Addin that allows Excel users to directly access the same OLAP data as Discoverer users. Our Business Intelligence Beans have also been improved to provide a more powerful declarative design environment within JDeveloper.
    3) Portal is a seperate installation option and package. However, with the Enterprise license option of the Application Server you get Portal and BI together. Oracle BI10g provides Discoverer Portlet Providers to allow portal pages to include Discoverer reports and list of workbooks/worksheets within a portal page. The Discoverer Portal solution also supports a very powerful feature called "personalization". You can get more information on this feature from the Discoverer home page on OTN.
    Hope this helps

  • Oracle Licenses questions

    Hello All,
I do not know if this the correct place to ask this question.
I want to have some information about Oracle Licenses: If i got an Oracle 11gR2 License for Enterprise edition along with Active Dataguard, Oracle RAC and Partitioning.
When I have these, does that mean that i can install Oracle Grid Infrastructure ? or i need any other licenses ? I already planing to have Oracle RAC
Can I install Oracle ASM and ACFS? can i store OCR, Voting disks, Datafiles on Oracle ASM if I have the above licenses? or should i add the Oracle Cloud File system license ?
    Regards,

You need to install Grid Infrastructure (GI) for RAC and there is no additional licensing if you have RAC licence for Entreprise Edition or for Standard Edition because GI is mandatory for RAC.
Grid Infra. = ASM + Clusterware. If you install GI you have ASM and you can use it for OCR, voting disks and datafiles.
    About ACFS I don't know.
    Official licensing info is http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/license.112/e10594/editions.htm#CJACGHEB.
I don't think Oracle Cloud File System is needed at all for RAC. See http://www.oracle.com/us/products/database/cloud-file-system/cloud-file-system-faq-318603.pdf.

  • Oracle 9i Lite Licensing Question

In my applictaion I plan to use only The local Oracle Lite Database. (Not the mobile server or sync or anything).
Do the same licensing rules apply or can this be included free of charge if they customers have their oracle server licenses?
    BR
    Tim

The installation media can be downloaded from the following link:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/index.html
You will need to agree to the OTN license agreement before you download the software. The install media contains Personal, Standard or Enterprise. Each edition contains the SQL Worksheet.
If you install the database on your PC, the install will include the client tools to connect to the database so there is no need to do a separate client install on the same machine.

  • Oracle licensing question- per server or instance?

We have 2 vendor/3rdparty applications that uses oracle database and purchased oracle licenses for both. They used to run on separate servers. Last year we consolidated these two oracle instances on a single server. Now we are looking to add a 3rd and 4th vendor/3rdparty application using oracle database. All require Oracle 9i Standard.
Is the oracle licence valid for the server and all instances running on it ?
    or
Is the oracle license valid per instance? In other words, are we required to purchase a 3rd and 4th license for the new application instances being added?

Oracle Database licensing is based on named user OR on number of processors. See http://www.oracle.com/corporate/pricing/databaselicensing.pdf

  • Oracle XE license trade mark

    Hi guys,
I read a lot of threads regarding the XE (+apex + listener) license and I think/hope I understood it correctly.
Seems like XE has a license that is free and you are able to use the DB for production products. In that license you have apex and listener.(I am not 100% sure about listener).
But the question is about the trademark:
This is what oracle XE license says:
In marketing, promoting, or distributing the programs, you agree to make it clear that Oracle is the source of the programs. You shall include on all copies of the programs used or distributed by you:
    A. A reproduction of Oracle's copyright notice; or
    B. A copyright notice indicating that the copyright is vested in you containing the following:
    1. A "c" in a circle and the word "copyright";
    2. Your name;
    3. The date of copyright; and
    4. The words "All rights reserved."
Such notices shall be placed on the documentation, the sign-on screen for any software incorporating the programs, and any media containing the programs.
I have an online application with login screen that is accesed by the clients.
what is A. A reproduction of Oracle's copyright notice
and what is B? what does it mean?
In case of B do I need to have somewhere in the page something like '(c) copyright Alin 2014-2015 All rights reserved'?
    Thank you,
    Alin

    Thanks jariola,
I checked that blog before. it says about XE license and it clarifies a lot. But it does not explain you should reproduce Oracle's Copyright notice or you should create one by yourself: (A copyright notice indicating that the copyright is vested in you containing the following:)
    any idea?
    Thanks

  • OID Licensing Question (with ODS EE)

Hello.  I am currently using OID (11.1.1.6) for my naming service (instead of tnsnames).  According to Oracle you are granted a restricted-use license for using OID "... if users use the Directory Naming feature to configure Oracle Net Services."  Since this is what I am doing, I I am under the impression that I do not have to license Oracle on the server with OID as long as it is the only thing on that server (which it is).
My company is looking at purchasing "Employee" Oracle Directory Services Enterprise Edition licenses (environment is all Oracle DB Enterpirse Edition, 10gR2 and 11gR2) so that we can setup chaining between OID and Microsoft AD so that user roles/permissions can be assigned through AD via AD groups.
My question is: since I will no longer be using OID strictly for connection resolution, and even though we will purchase ODS EE, will I be forced to license my server that is only running OID?  I would think that this wouldn't be the case, but I always prefer to know ahead of time when it comes to Oracle and licensing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    DC

    Hi Saad;
I belive you can get the bestest answer from oracle support only. By the way you can also og a SR and confirm your issue wiht oracle support too.

  • Instant Client SQL*Plus License Question

Can anyone shed some light on a license question for me? (I know that most license questions are for Oracle Sales to handle, but this involves a supposedly free product.)
I want to use SQL*Plus with the Instant Client in a production environment, but I am not sure whether I am entitled to. Does Instant Client "support" SQL*Plus only in the sense that if I already own a license for SQL*Plus I can use it with the Instant Client, or is the Instant Client SQL*Plus package also truly free to deploy and use?
The download page has links to download a basic Instant Client, plus several optional packages, one of which is SQL*Plus. However, the FAQ does not tell me whether the optional packages (specifically SQL*Plus) is also free to deploy and use in a production environment, and I could not find any other helpful document.
The FAQ says that "Instant Client is FREE for anyone to use in a development or production environment." It also says immediately following that "Instant Client can be used to run your OCI, OCCI, Pro*C, JDBC, and ODBC applications without installing a full Oracle Client. In addition, Instant Client supports SQL*Plus." [emphasis mine]
I would appreciate any help on this.
    Thanks in advance,
    Anthony

Why don't you call Oracle sales? I guess they'll be happy to answer your question.

  • Oracle XDK - C language -

    Help!
I would like to use the oracle xdk for xsl processing, and validation.
But when I try to either process or validate this document,
    I get this error:

I am processing a document that uses the EAD dtd.
    (see http://www.loc.gov/ead/).
so the ead dtd is the standard ead dtd.
The fragment in question is an attlist definition:

This is the definition of parameter entity a.common:

You can use the DOM2 adoptNode() and ImportNode().

  • Oracle User Licensing

    Hi,
Does anyone can help us out with Oracle User Licensing.
We have most of the users as iExpense user or requisition users, means they use oracle only for entering their expense report or creating requisition. Does anybody have clarity that whether we still need oracle license for them?
Or is their any mini/small kind of license for these group of employees?
Say in a company of 5000 employees, only 200 uses oracle but do we need to buy lincese for all 5000, since we have to provide them iexpense responsibility for their expense report?
Any clarification on this matter is highly appreciated.
    Thanks,

Thanks Srini for your quick reply.
Before we go to Sales rep, we wanted to see if some companies have negotiated for iExpense user or temp user rates.
It will not make sense to buy the licence for 5000 users when only 200 are active users and 4800 are only iexpense or requisition users.
If we ask this question to oracle rep, they are bound to try to sell the full license to us.
Have you heard of situation like us anytime?

Regards,Typically, you don't license a version, you license a product and buy on-going support that allows you to upgrade any time.
But all licensing questions should be directed to your oracle sales rep, not a bunch of strangers on a forum. If oracle finds you in violation of your license, no one here will represent you.

  • Oracle database licenses for 32 bit and 64 bit ?

    Quick question on Oracle Licensing.
We have brought Oracle database license for 10g few years ago. We had 10g 32-bit database installed and its working fine.
Now we are in the process of migrating our hardware to 64-bit, since Oracle database has a 64-bit database, we are planning to move our database as well to 10g 64-bit database.
Now as far as licensing is concerned, do we need to buy new licenses in order to use the 10g 64-bit database ?
or its the same license for 32 or 64 bit database - so we are good ?

You can migrate your Oracle license from one platofrm to another even if the platform is sold by a different manufacturer. If you have cpu licenses though you have to take into consideration the different way Oracle charges for some vendor CPU's. That is not all CPU's are considered equal.
The licensing information is available at oracle.com and your sales representive should be able to help if necessary. We just open an SR and ask Oracle for assistance to get the necessary software.
