Oracle XE could be installed on 64 bit online XEN Virtual Private Server?

Hello,
Previous I installed Oracle XE on XEN 32bit VPS but want to make sure before buying an XEN 64 bit VPS that it will work. Please advise
Thanks in anticipation

If Oracle Linux 4 or 5 (or other linux based OS per requirements section), you're in luck.
XE on "linux" is 64-bit: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/express-edition/downloads/index.html

regds, since 11g is somewhat indeterminate you'll need to decide for yourself

  • Can we install Oracle XE on virtual private server?

    Hello,
Is that possible to install oracle on the virtual server?
    Thanks & best regards

I have a dedicated server and installed virtual private servers on it through virtuozzo
vmware and xen are hypervisor but we use kernel level and all vps use the same kernel
will it work in this scenario?
i've manage to install oracle-xe on vps, but its not starting. giving error "ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist"
i think this error comes in two secnarios
    1. oracle environment paths not set eg.(ORACLE_HOME/SID) but they are set very well
    2. oracle not getting enough memory to start, i've tried allocated 4gb of ram to the VPS but still not worked, may be the problem due to unavaliability of SWAP space on VPS.
can some one give any idea on this ?
    thanks in advance

  • Can VPD Virtual Private DB in 10g replace Oracle Apps security rules?

I read the recent article in Oracle Magazine called 'Testing Database Security', especially the section on Virtual Private Database (VPD), caught my attention. Can this feature of the 10g database be used by the Oracle Apps to restrict access to data through the apps login? We just moved to 10g.
Our current data security is enabled by leveraging security rules attached to responsibilities. Our security rules restrict by operating unit, of which there are 89. It would be great if VPD could be used, as it might replace the need to create 89 separate security rules. We would maintain just one set of policies.
Does anyone know if this can be used on the applications level? If anyone has done this, do you know of a documentation link that would help?
    Thanks for your insight.

    Sebes,
Thanks for the link...it sounds like it may be part of the Oracle future landscape, but for now, we will have to live with security rules.
    Sincerely,
    Brenda

I could install database and work in the same system in command prompt but the same could not be connected from sqlplus moreover DPCA,Netconfiguaration assistant all are not coming in the graphical way and i couldnt able to connect from the network. which brings ora-06413 error.

  • Installing 32 bit Oracle (w/ odbc drivers) on a 64 bit OS

We have a server running Windows 2008 Server (64bit). We have a database that we use to run reports through coldfusion, which requires a 32 bit odbc dsn connection. When i attempt to install the 32 bit oracle (ive tried both 10.2.03 and 11g R1) the installation seems to complete, but the odbc driver is not being recognized. I checked the registry (hklm\software\odbc) and the odbc administrator and the oracle driver is not listed in either location.
Is this fallout from the Program Files (x86) installation?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Paul

How do you get the 32bit client to communicate with the 64bit Oracle instance on the same windows box? After installing the 64 bit db and client (on a developer desktop), I installed the 32 bit client to a different oracle home. I could not get it to connect to the listener - what am I doing wrong? Should I reinstall it to the 64bit home - I'm afraid that'll kill everything though.
Also, I think I'm correct in this, but not sure: any 32bit app must use the 32bit client on the 64bit box. MS Access needs 32bit ODBC, which needs 32bit client, etc.
    Thx,
    Jeff

  • Installing Latest Oracle Client & ODT for Windows 7 64-bit

I have a Windows 7 64-bit. I would think that using 32-bit Java, 32-bit Oracle Client and 32-bit ODAC would work just fine on this operating system. However, I had no luck getting it to run. Here is what I did and a few reasons why I prefer to never work with Oracle products:
    Installed 32-bit JDK/JRE (1.6 Update 25)
    Installed 32-bit Oracle Client (11g R2) Home 1
Tested connectivity from SQL Developer successfully
Installed 32-bit ODT (11g R3) to Home 1 (installer noted upgrades and new installs)
Failed connectivity from all things windows (ODBC, ADO, ADO.Net)
    Uninstalled 32-bit ODT
Failed to uninstall 32-bit Oracle Client Home 1 (oraparam.ini file missing among other issues)
    Installed 32-bit Oracle Client (11g R2) Home 2
Failed to uninstall 32-bit Oracle Client Home 1 (told to use deinstall tool)
Failed to uninstall 32-bit Oracle Client Home 2 (told to use deinstall tool)
Failed to run uninstall tool in Home 1 (told to download standalone deinstall tool)
Uninstalled 32-bit Oracle Client Home 2 (completed successfuly with errors - seriously?)
Uninstalled 32-bit Oracle Client Home 1 (completed successfully, but couldn't delete folder)
Oracle.DataAccess and Oracle.Web are still installed in GAC. Uninstall attempts fail (access denied)
    Installed 32-bit Oracle Client (11g R2) Home 1
Tested connectivity from SQL Developer successfully
Tested connectivity from .Net 3.5 successfully (using 32-bit 2.0 dll)
Tested connectivity from .Net 4.0 successfully (using 32-bit 2.0 dll)
Does anyone have any suggestions on getting Oracle Data Tools for Windows to work before I try that again?

I realize ODT uses ODP, but installing release 3 upgraded the .Net 2.0 ODP DLLs (which were installed from the Oracle Client 11g Release 2 install) and added the .Net 4.0 DLLs. After that install everything stopped working from Windows land and then it took the better part of two hours to get it back to what it looked like prior to the install. The other thing weird thing I noticed is that although Oracle.DataAccess is registered in the 2.0 GAC I cannot add a reference that way using VS2010. I have to manually add a reference to the file path. Although it still appears I do not have to have the assembly copied locally to run, so the GAC registration seems to be working in that regard.

  • Forward me the link for installing Oracle Client 10g on Windows 7 64-bit?

Actually i installed TOAD for oracle v9.5 on laptop with Windows 7 ultimate
it gives 'Cannot find OCI DLL: oci.dll'. It seems TOAD for Oracle is a 32-bit only app, which means that it requires a 32-bit Client.
You might also want to stay away from installing Toad under "Program files (x86)".
Consider taking a look at Oracle SQL Developer - a very good alternative to the toad.

    Hello,
Oracle 11.1 is neither certified nor supported to Windows 7 and, even Oracle couldn't give you
any support on this OS Platform.
However, Oracle 11.2 will be certified to Windows 7.
It's not already available for Windows, you may check from time to time on the following link:

    Hope this help.
    Best regards,
