Oracle XE on Windows Vista beta 2

Production release of XE on Vista beta 2 runs fine.

Hi tom,
So what your saying is that if i really need to run
oracle9i on my vista home premium i should just go
ahead and dual boot my laptop with MS windows XP?You must use a certified OS, 9i has never been supported for windows vista, and most probably it won't be supported. If you want to install an RDBMS you should install at least 10.2.0.3.0, as stated on my previous post.
Vista would just be a host opertating system, in case of using Virtual Machine Software, if you are planning to install 9iR2, and use a certified OS as listed in the [https://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/certify/certify.istore_welcome]Oracle Certify Matrix

  • How to Install Oracle 11g on Windows Vista

Hi Everyone, this is Abhinay here i am a Graduate Student from Electronics and i am planning to shift to CS background the main thing i want to know from you guys is " A structured procedure of Installing Oracle 10g on Windows Vista"- So can any one of you guys help me out??????????

Hi, how are you doing ?
Just one advice about it. If you want to work with Oracle databases, it will be better to install it on certified OS's. Doing so, you will get better experience and more realistic experience on it.
Following the Oracle database documentation, you will get all that you need to successfully install the database in the certified OS.

  • Windows Vista Beta

    HomeSite and Windows Vista Beta:
I have used homeSite almost from its initial release many
years ago. Version 5.0 has been loaded and reloaded on I think 3
    platforms now, maybe four.
I have recently installed windows Vista Beta and was deeply
distressed to find that the code would not install. Because Vista
released a short time ago (June 13, 2006) there may be a workaround
for the install. Until that time I will simply dual boot back to
Windows XP and continue to use homeSite 5.0 from there.
I have a legitimate copy (albeit unregistered) of the code.
    Rick ..

You may have found this out by now... but Ill post it anyway
I had the same prob getting homesite to work in Vista, and
manage to getting it working in compatibility mode... worked quite
    well actually.
Navigate to your homesite.exe and right click, then in
properties there is an compatibilty option, set it to Windows XP
Service Pack 2 and all should be good. I think you may need to
disable the homesite splash screen too.. Im sure that screwed
    things up for me.
Eitherway I got it working in the end, but Im back to XP
    now.

  • Issue with GEAR Software CD/DVD Drivers + Windows Vista Beta 2 (build 5384)

I am using Windows Vista Beta 2 (Build 5384), and yes I know Vista is NOT officially supported by iTunes yet. However, iTunes installs and works ok for me, except that there is an issue with the GEAR Software drivers that it installs (used for cd burning and importing). The issue is that the driver (GEARAspiWDM.sys) is not compatible with Windows Vista. Normally this would not be an issue; I would just use a different program to create audio cd's. The issue is that the drive makes both my DVD-Rom and my DVD/CD-RW drive disappears (they are still listed in the device manager, but they have driver errors, code 39).
So I was wondering if anyone in Mac/Apple land knows of a way to disable/uninstall the GEAR drivers so I can still use iTunes?
And yes I did search the GEAR Software support page, but could not find an appropriate solution.
    Thank you.
    Chuck Stewart

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

If you want a success then download movie trailers from Apple's QuickTime site and convert them using QuickTime for the iPod.

  • Anti-Virus Software for Windows Vista Beta 2 Preview-

As many of you with MacBooks and MacBook Pros are already installing Windows Vista Beta 2, you may have forgotten about Anti-Virus/Internet Security software. Microsoft is offering Free Anti-Virus and Internet Security software from it's partners that work with Windows Vista. Here is the link: http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/viruses/wsc/en-us/windowsvistabeta2.msp x
The Trend Micro looks a bit more promising, as it is their Internet Security Suite, and not just the Ant-Virus, as is from eTrust.
I will be installing this onto one of my Windows Machines soon, and will post back on how they work. Hope this helps anyone installing the Windows Vista Beta Preview 2.

    Hi SkipHaughay,
As far as I know Parallels does not support Windows Vista at this time. Vista must be installed over Windows XP on Boot Camp. IF you do install through Boot Camp, I hear that everything works except for sound and wireless I believe. Hope this helps.

  • OT: Windows Vista Beta 2

Has anyone installed Windows Vista Beta 2, yet? I'm currently
    downloading it
now (FYI, it's around 3200mb or so) - and will probably put
    it on another PC
    for testing.
If you haven't heard about its public release, you can read
    and obtain a
copy by mail or download, here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/preview.mspx
Just curious what you've thought for those who have installed
    it and used it
    already.
    Take care, everyone.

  • Windows Vista Beta 2 Download Available FREE from MS

Ok who wants to try to run this with BootCamp ??? I am guessing it should be fine as its a release for x86 CPU (Intel).
    Heres the link:
    http://download.windowsvista.com/preview/beta2/en/x86/download.htm
Update: Direct Link for Beta 2:

Its a 3GB ISO image which means you will need to burn the image to a DVD on completion...
For the Windows Vista Beta 2 activation key:
    http://bartysblog.be/content/get-your-windows-vista-beta-2-keys-early
I am not too sure how getting the product key works - I am sure someone out there can work it out !!!
    Dont shoot the messenger !

Excellent ! Thanks for the heads up Nick.
I tried it in 'Image Mode' on Parallels (using the ISO as the boot image) and it definitely starts, but halts at an unknown USB device error. I disabled all the devices in Parallels - but no joy.
I am not in a mad rush to do it anyway - might try with BootCamp some time.
Did anyone get a result with the activation key via the SECOND LINK I provided (registering with MS ) ???
Once the mad rush subsides, heres some links to different language versions etc:

Heres the instructions for BootCamp and Vista taken from the forum in a prev post: (attempt at your own risk)...
Installing Vista works fine without erasing your OS X partition. Here are some instructions I used that worked perfectly.
"1) Boot to the Vista DVD.
    2) When I got to the "Choose a drive to install to" page, pressed "advanced" (or "more drive info" or whatever it's called).
    3) Selected the first partition (200MB unknown partition), this was the EFI partition.
    4) Pressed "delete."
    5) Selected the Windows partition to install to.
From there Vista took about an hour to install on my build. After the first reboot it came back with a "Could not find Winload.exe" error.
To fix that, I booted to the DVD again and selected "recovery options" - it said "Your startup information is invalid, click Repair And Restart to fix it".
On the next reboot it worked fine."
    Taken from this thread: http://forum.osx86project.org/index....ic=14448&st=40
NOTE: The Boot Camp drivers CD will not install properly so the wireless networking won't work out of the box. The regular ethernet driver works straight out of the box with Vista as well as the graphics driver, sound, bluetooth. You need to extract the drivers manually from the setup.exe in the boot camp disk to get the wireless networking driver, brightness control and CDEject.exe or whatever it's called. The startup control panel will also need to be installed manually. At least that is the case for the iMacs.
Note #2: Deleting that EFI partition will make it so you can't erase the windows partition from withing the boot camp app in OS X. You would need to restore the EFI partition manually if you wanted to do that.

  • Windows Vista Beta 2 and Soundblaster PCI

When Windows Vista Beta 2 was first installed, it installed a generic driver for the PCI52 sound card. However, since the driver is generic It has limited functionality. I am not able to enable the quadraphonic option in Control Panel under the "Audio Devices and Sound Themes" icon. I would like a more compatible driver to replace the generic driver, or something that would enable the quadraphonic option.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you,
    Charles

    Charles,
I'd like to know as well. I have a 4-speaker system attached to my PCI52 as well with Windows VISTA SP and have not found a way to enable the other two speakers.

  • Parallels and Windows Vista Beta 2

Has anyone been able to successfully load Windows Vista Beta 2 on the final release of Parallels?

I just read a little bit ago that "they" are saying in the next release - as in V3 - later this year. I forget just where, but search "Vista Parallels" on Google.
I just tried to load Vista with Parallels - no go.

  • Install Oracle 9i on Windows Vista Home Premium

I have a problem Installing Oracle 9i on Windows Vista Home Premium, I cant install it because it throws me an error message saying that is incompatible with my version of Windows. It is possible to install it with some patch or something??

The only patch I know of is called Windows XP.
In case you have not done any internet searches on this, even Oracle Database 10g was not compatible with Vista until Oracle applied some heavy patches and re-released it.
And since Oracle9i is officially deprecated (nearest thing to obsolete as to make no difference) I see no reason for Oracle to backport the patches.
