Oracle XE on Windows XP Home

Hi all,
I am looking at installing XE on XP home edition. I know it says in the doco you need XP Pro but I have also seen some people say that XP home is possible. I can't find much on this (XP home install of XE) so can anyone point me in the right direction (some posts maybe about probems etc). Any help appreciated. thanks

If you are lucky, the install will proceed just as if you had XP Pro.
If you are not lucky, the install will fail. The failure could happen in various places. It may be possible to determine what caused the failure, and may be possible to fix that. But you will always end up wondering whether the 'problem' you have with a specific command is your mistake, and Oracle bug or because of the funny configuration.

  • Install Oracle 9i on Windows Vista Home Premium

I have a problem Installing Oracle 9i on Windows Vista Home Premium, I cant install it because it throws me an error message saying that is incompatible with my version of Windows. It is possible to install it with some patch or something??

The only patch I know of is called Windows XP.
In case you have not done any internet searches on this, even Oracle Database 10g was not compatible with Vista until Oracle applied some heavy patches and re-released it.
And since Oracle9i is officially deprecated (nearest thing to obsolete as to make no difference) I see no reason for Oracle to backport the patches.

  • Installation of oracle 10gR2 on Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit OS

can we install oracle 10gR2 on Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit OS ???
While doing sqlplus from command prompt,
    it's giving error like
'SP2-1503 Unable to initialise Oracle Call interface'
'SP2-0152 Oracle may not be functioning Properly'
How to troubleshoot the above errors,
    Has anybody tried it ???
    Plz assist.

No Oracle product is certified against any Windows Home OS.
As Vista was released after Oracle 10gR2, 10gR2 is not certified against any edition of Vista.
You need to downgrade to XP, or install Linux.

  • TNS 12549 error on installing Oracle 10g on Windows XP Home?

    Hi,
I installed Oracle 10g on Windows XP Home by clicking on Disk1\install\setup (NOT Disk1\setup as instructed since that did not work). Everything seemed to go fine except towards the end of the install I got a whole bunch of errors saying that "operating system resource quota exceeded". There were options to Ignore or Abort at most of these stages. I chose Ignore and the whole install seemed to complete but I am not able to connect to the database using sqlPlus. I looked at the log files created where I saw a whole bunch of errors in several files. For example in sqlnet log, I saw this error (among others) appeneded below. It seems obvious that some resource quotas were exceeded but I am not able to figure out exactly what quotas should be increased. Any help regarding this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

XP Home is not supported, despite of this some people get oracle to work.
But in your case, possibly your machine has simply not enough resources, 12549 is a very generic error. Check the hardware requirements in the installation guide.

Do you have any specific issues with your installation? I don't see why you shouldn't be able to install Oracle 11g on Windows 7. Found a quick blog post for you:

  • Oracle 9i  for Windows XP Home Edition

Would like to know which version can be downloaded to install oracle 9i for Windows XP Home Edition .. Would like to download Oracle 9i Developer as well...

I can only comment on the database installation. Oracle has now supported 9i for XP professional (no previous versions will be supported). XP home will NOT be a supported platform for Oracle products.
NOTE: There is a bug with 9i installations that the OUI will fail if the CLASSPATH has been set by installations from previous Oracle installations. Before installing 9i you will need to clear the CLASSPATH and then proceed with your installation. Once the installation is complete you can restore the CLASSPATH with your original settings.

  • How to Install Oracle 10g in Windows 7 Home premium 64bit operating system

    Hi,
I am using Windows 7 Home premium 64bit operating system. While i was installing oracle 10g i got error and not able to install. How to install the Oracle 10g databse on this operating system. Is there any patch to install this or i have to use other version of oracle with window 7 operating system?
    Thanks in advance

The argument would be who wants to install Oracle database on Windows 7. I think most probably by the developers who wants to "Try" something prior deal with a production database, right?
For a developer, installing database using the hack is more than NOT having a local database running from the local system. I installed all the products mentioned with windows7bugs post and used the following tools to successfully connect and retrive data from the database instances.
    Toad 9.7.x.x
    SQL Developer
    SQL/Plus
Developer 6i (Another hack, please check this link http://windows7bugs.wordpress.com/2010/03/01/installing-oracle-developer-forms-reports-6i-on-windows-7-64bit/).
I think the discussion about whether all the features of client/server are still available with such a hacked installation is meaningless as far the information requested was strictly for Windows 7, not for a Server OS.

  • Oracle 8i for Windows XP Home Edition

Could someone please advise which is the correct download version of Oracle 8i to use with Windows XP Home Edition?

As far as I know, your need XP Professional.
On top of that, you'd better download Oracle 9i.
Let me explain: the symcjit.dll library in Oracle 8.1.5 did not work on XP w/Pentium IV. You had to go to symantec.com and download the proper JDK, extract symcjit.dll from it and replace the original symcjit.dll (that came on the Oracle CD or in the download) with the new symcjit.dll
This means that you have to copy the CD to disk, unzip it and replace symcjit.dll in the unzipped distribution.
I do not know if this was fixed in 8.1.7, but 9i installs beautifully on XP Professional, Pentium IV w/512MB RAM.
Could someone please advise which is the correct download version of Oracle 8i to use with Windows XP Home Edition?

  • Oracle XE on Windows 7 home ??

    Hi All,
Does Oracle XE works on Windows 7 Home edition ?
I have a Netbook with Win7, is Oracle XE certified to work on it?
    Thanks in advance

If you want to use Oracle XE on Windows 7 try to use Oracle XE 11.2 beta: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/express-edition/11gxe-beta-download-302519.html instead of Oracle XE 10.2.
Current software requirements for XE 11.2 beta don't require Windows 7 Professional Edition: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17781_01/install.112/e18803/toc.htm#BABHICJH.
In my experience this is OK for basic developement and DBA usage on Windows 7 Home.

  • Re: Install Oracle 11g on windows 7 Home Premium?

Can any one let me know whether windows 7 home premium supports oracle 11g 32bit version?

    Welcome to the forums !
No - Home versions of Win are not supported for any Oracle installs. One option you have is to create a Linux VM on your Win 7 machine and then install 11gR2 in the Linux VM - pl see my blog (linked in my profile) for detailed steps

  • Installing Oracle 8i on Windows XP Home

    Hi All,
Has anyone been able to install 8i (8.1.7) on Windows XP Home yet ?
I have gotten as far as 98% complete and then the install just hangs.
I have a P4 laptop and knowing about the P4 bug I've already renamed all copies of symcjit.dll and even tried using 9.2 versions of symcjit.dll, but the install still hangs at 98%.
Any ideas from you clever folk will be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ron

You may already know this, but the 8.1.7 Server install is not supported on XP, although the Client install is. You may want to install Oracle9i instead.
Having said that, I have heard that people have managed to install 8.1.7 on XP, but it isn't always successful.

  • Oracle 10g on Windows XP Home Edition?

I was reading the installation guide and in Sofware Requirements section XP Home Edition is not listed just XP Professional.
XP Professional is recommended or mandatory, Oracle 10g does not work on XP Home Edition?

Oracle only certifies the database on the Professional edition, not the Home edition of Windows XP. If you are just installing Oracle for personal education, most things will most likely work just fine on the Home Edition.
