Oracle XE ORA-06502

I cant seem to be able to import data into Oracle XE without ORA-06502 error any solution will be greatly appreciated.

Is there more to the error message? That one could be a couple of things. Like "number precision too large" or "character conversion error"?

    W've been experiencing the Oracle Error: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: NULL index table key value Report’ [we are currently on apex v3.0.1]. From the forum there was a reference to a bug fix: apex bug (6416829) fixed in 3.1. When we view '6416829' in Metalink we can see the bug title but cannot see any details as it's protected. Can anyone shed some light on why it's protected or provide further details.
    We have many LIVE customers reporting this error and we want to be certain it's fixed in v3.1.
    (currently we are working around this by flushing the shared pool but this is not ideal).
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Scott,
    This error has been thrown several times in the past 24 hours. Yesterday several of my reports threw the error, these reports have done so in the past. This morning APEX has begun throwing the error of which I have seen only once before. This is occuring at Home>Application>My Application. The error appears when I attempt to View the report in Details mode, is OK when I view the report in Icons mode. The error is occuring in my Prodution environment which has not been updated since 2/25/2009.
    As before, I edited the SQL on my application's reports and the error then disappeared.
    We are running Application Express 3.2.0.00.27 and Oracle Release 10.2.0.1.0. My browser is IE 7.0.
    Plan to test later with FireFox provided I can download it to see if this might browser related.
    Any inforamtion or guidance is appreciated.
    Jeff

  • Ora-06502 pl/sql numeric or value error in Report Query in oracle apex

    Hello all,
    I need your help...
    ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
    I am using bi publisher to generate PDF reports in oracle apex.
    We were using APEX 4.0 and migrated to 4.2 just a week ago.
    Now we have apex 4.2.
    When I try to Create report query,
    Shared Components >> Report Queries then create.
    and test a report in a create wizard I am getting a error "ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small".
    I have also applied a patch "16760897".
    This issue is because of number of columns in a query is more then 26.
    If I run a report with 26 or less number of columns then the is working fine, otherwise getting this error.
    My before migration report queries working perfectly even now, but not new queries.
    This issue is also in apex.oracle.com.

  • Disco for Oracle Apps with Scheduling not in Apps ~ Throws Error ORA-06502

    Hi All,
    I have had an SR with Oracle for almost 1/2 year now to set-up scheduling with the scheduling schema not being Apps. They have not been able to fix this yet.
    I have used note 757831.1. When I try to set-up a schedule that is recurring, the following error is thrown: ORA-06502.
    Does any one have a success story associated with setting-up scheduling in a Disco Oracle Apps end user layer where the scheduling schema is not apps?
    Thanks,

    I have determined by trial and error that the problem is in passing the VARCHAR2 parameters. I do not have this problem with the Microsoft Oracle Provider. Can someone help me with what I'm missing? Thanks.

    Note that I have not tested your code... but, it looks like you are using bind by position (which is the default). In this mode the return value needs to be bound first since ODP.NET will generate code similar to this:
    :ret_val := proc(:1, :2,...);That's where I would start anyway.
    Hope that helps a bit,
    Mark

  • ORA-06502 pl/sql in Oracle warehouse builder

    Hi,
    I have a problem with using Name and Address operator in Oracle Warehouse builder. When I mapped a table which has more than 7735 rows to another table.
    I will get the error "ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small".
    How can I solve this problem?
    Thanks a lot!

    The problem is happening again.
    When it happens, if I quit and I start again Oracle XE, the problem does not happen at first, but happens again after a while (the duration before the error is not always the same). If I increase the number of lines that are printed for the result of a request, I can induce the error; if I decrease the number of lines, the error is not happening.
    Here is one of the request (that request returns about 5000 rows) that cause the error, and the complete error message:

  • Ora-06502 while calling oracle function

    I am using 9.2.0.4.0 database.
    I have vb.net application that uses oracle provider for .net to connect to database.
    I am calling Oracle function which returns varchar2 value back.
    when i execute cmd2.ExecuteNonQuery, I get ora-06502 error.
    CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION ZZZ_TEMP( p_val IN VARCHAR2) RETURN varchar2
    AS
    BEGIN
    RETURN 'HELLO';
    EXCEPTION WHEN OTHERS THEN

    END;

    Dim VAL As String

    cmd2.Parameters.Add("RetVal", Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleDbType.Varchar2, ParameterDirection.ReturnValue)
    cmd2.Parameters.Add("p_val", Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleDbType.Varchar2, ParameterDirection.Input).Value = "XYZ"
    cmd2.Connection = con

    cmd2.ExecuteNonQuery()
    VAL = cmd2.Parameters("RetVal").Value
    Catch ex As Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleException
    MsgBox(ex.Message)
    End Try

    If I change this function to retrun number rather than Varchar2 and change my
    RetVal parameter as follow it works. I am noticing that there might be a bug when function returns varchar2
    cmd2.Parameters.Add("RetVal", Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleDbType.int32, ParameterDirection.ReturnValue)
    cmd2.Parameters.Add("p_Val", Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleDbType.int32, ParameterDirection.Input).valu ="XYZ"

  • ORA-06502 JNI.CALL_STRING_METHOD Oracle Forms & Web Services

    Hello:
    A customer of us has been integrating Oracle Forms 10g and Web Services.
    There is a java class named WsGenQueryStub. That java class has been generated using Oracle JDeveloper.
    It implements the consume of a Web Service That class has a method named GetDat which receives 2 input parameters which are of VARCHAR2 type, containing XML text.
    This method returns an XML text string which may have more than 4000 characters .
    That class is incluedd at forms application by using the "Import Java Class" feature.
    Forms builds a package named WsGenQueryStub which includes the following funtion
    -- Method: GetData (Ljava/lang/String;Ljava/lang/String;)Ljava/lang/String;
    FUNCTION GetData(
    obj ORA_JAVA.JOBJECT,
    a0 VARCHAR2,
    a1 VARCHAR2) RETURN VARCHAR2 IS
    BEGIN
    args := JNI.CREATE_ARG_LIST(2);
    JNI.ADD_STRING_ARG(args, a0);
    JNI.ADD_STRING_ARG(args, a1);
    RETURN JNI.CALL_STRING_METHOD(FALSE, obj, 'Interfases/WsGenQueryStub', 'GetData', '(Ljava/lang/String;Ljava/lang/String;)Ljava/lang/String;', args);
    END;
    Forms Version is 9.0.4.0.19 , and PL/SQL version ( of forms ) is 9.0.1.5.1 , both support variables of type VARCHAR2 up to 32767 characters long
    However when the form is run the line
    RETURN JNI.CALL_STRING_METHOD(FALSE, obj, 'Interfases/WsGenQueryStub', 'GetData', '(Ljava/lang/String;Ljava/lang/String;)Ljava/lang/String;', args);
    gets the ORA-06502 error when the returned text is longer than 4000 characters
    I thank your answers.
    Fernando.

    Ferdo,
    could you split up the result string in chunks that don't exceed the max. length? A method exposed on the Java class to could do this and be called from Forms as long as there is data coming.

    Hi,
    It seems like a bug as per metalink note:
    APPPBR : AP Prepayment Balance Report Error Out java.sql.SQLException: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small ORA-06512: at line 11 [ID 827325.1]

  • Large DDL causes ORA-06502 in several Applications

    I Created a Table with
    CREATE TABLE large_table (
    c001 VARCHAR(2) NOT NULL
    and added columns with
    ALTER TABLE large_table ADD c002 VARCHAR(2) NOT NULL;
    ALTER TABLE large_table ADD c060 VARCHAR(2) NOT NULL;
    The DDL of this table cannot be executed eg. in SqlDeveloper, sqlplus, ... and it cannot be imported from a dump with exp! Importing causes:

    I'm quite sure, this problem is well known, but I did not find a hint in metalink or the rest of the internet.

    Sorry, the example has not been tested well :(
    But I just had to duplicate the number of columns to get the error both in SqlDeveloper, SqlPlus and (still) imp. That sqlplus and imp have different limits in DDL-size confuses me even more :-/

  • XML publisher report using dbms_xmlgen (ORA-06502)

    Dear All,
    I have written the below code to generate xml output in Oracle Apps. The code is working fine for less records. But when CLOB size is more than 32k, then
    it giving the ORA-06502 error as fnd_file.put_line(fnd_file.output,v_result) can only write 32k at a time.
    Can anyone let me know how to handle this? Any help on this would be highly appreciated.
    PROCEDURE MAIN ( errbuf OUT VARCHAR2
    ,retcode OUT NUMBER
    ) IS
    TYPE g_query_ref IS REF CURSOR;
    v_query_ref g_query_ref;
    v_handle dbms_xmlgen.ctxhandle;
    v_result clob;
    BEGIN
    OPEN v_query_ref FOR
    SELECT invoice_num,
    description,
    customer_no,
    customer_name
    FROM XX_INVOICE_DETAILS;
    v_handle := dbms_xmlgen.newContext(v_query_ref);
    DBMS_XMLGEN.SETROWTAG (v_handle , 'INVOICE');
    v_result := dbms_xmlgen.getXML(v_handle);
    fnd_file.put_line(fnd_file.output,v_result);
    EXCEPTION
    when others then
    errbuf := sqlerrm;
    retcode := sqlcode;
    fnd_file.put_line(fnd_file.log,’sqlerrm ‘||sqlerrm);
    END MAIN;
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards,
    Astik

    What you need to do is to chop your CLOB up into smaller strings, something like:
    l_size := DBMS_LOB.getlength (l_clob);
    IF (NVL (l_size, 0) = 0) THEN
    raise_application_error (-20001, 'CLOB is NULL');
    END IF;
    l_offset := 1;
    -- Loop
    WHILE (l_offset <= l_size) LOOP
    l_char := DBMS_LOB.SUBSTR (l_clob,1,l_offset);
    IF (l_char = CHR (10)) THEN
    FND_FILE.NEW_LINE(FND_FILE.output, 1);
    ELSE
    FND_FILE.PUT(FND_FILE.output, l_char);
    END IF;
    -- Increment Offset.
    l_offset:= l_offset+1;
    END LOOP;
    FND_FILE.NEW_LINE(fnd_file.output, 1);
