Oracle XE + Windows Vista

Just thought people here would like to know, I was able to install Oracle XE beta2 on Windows Vista. I had to change the compatibility mode on the installer to make it think I was running Windows 2003 sp1, other wise the installer either would error saying I was running the wrong OS version, or it would completely crash the system. Everything seems to running fine, I've been able to connect via the web front end, and from sqlplus. I have not yet reboot, but I'm guessing since all the services are currently running, there won't be any issues shutting them down or starting them back up.

I did it too, but the beta over beta software is just too dangerous.. you never know what is crashing your system :)

  • Oracle for Windows Vista

    Hi
I am trying to download a version of Oracle onto my new Vista laptop. Had 9i Personal Edition on XP laptop and was very happy with it. I can't seem to get any version to work on Vista though. Tried the Oracle 10g release for Vista from http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/10203vista.html. I can download it but when trying to unzip it, it gets about half way through then says that the program I am using to unzip it has stopped responding. I have tried downloading file a couple of different times in case it was a corrupt download and also tried different unzip programs, but the same thing happens.
Any advice on how to get some kind of Oracle database onto my Vista machine?
    Many thanks
    Martin

    Hi
Yes, I've read those documents and I seem to have all the correct memory and hard disk space etc required.
I have tried downloading file 3 times now and the same thing happens. Wondering if anyone else has had success with this file recently?
Is there any other download available to get Oracle (not Express Edition as I don't think it will do what I need) onto Vista?
    Many thanks
    Martin

  • Oracle 9i installation on windows vista beta 2

i have problem to install oracle 9i on windows vista beta 2.
only software of oracle is install but when i create database then it gives error like jrew is stop working
    thanks

    Hi tom,
So what your saying is that if i really need to run
oracle9i on my vista home premium i should just go
ahead and dual boot my laptop with MS windows XP?You must use a certified OS, 9i has never been supported for windows vista, and most probably it won't be supported. If you want to install an RDBMS you should install at least 10.2.0.3.0, as stated on my previous post.
Vista would just be a host opertating system, in case of using Virtual Machine Software, if you are planning to install 9iR2, and use a certified OS as listed in the [https://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/certify/certify.istore_welcome]Oracle Certify Matrix

  • Windows Vista and Oracle XE

I bought a laptop with an excitement; and installed oracle 10g XE, now I can't run the oracle on this Windows Vista? Any guidance and suggestion would be much appreciated.
I couldn't dare to install linux fedora on this laptop which has Windows Vista for a dual boot system because I read all negative things in google about the dual booting system of fedora and windows vista. Any suggestion and guidance would be one again would be very much appreciated.
    [email protected]

now I can't run the oracle on this Windows Vista? What do you mean by that statement. It seems similar to the following conversation in a doctor's office
You: I felt fine this morning, but now I feel sick.
    Doctor: What is wrong?
    You: I feel sick
    Doctor: Can I help you?
You: Yes please. I feel sick.
Please explain what you mean by "you can't run oracle on this Windows Vista".
Perhaps you could provide some explanation or some symptoms or some details.
Perhaps you could display some error messages.
Perhaps you could cut and paste the output from the command line when you enter IPCONFIG /ALL
Perhaps you could copy.paste the contents of the LISTENER.ORA file

  • Installation of Oracle 10g XE in Windows Vista home premium

    Hi,
I tried to install oracle 10g XE(express edition) in my laptop which has Windows Vista home premium 32 bit.But when i start database it is showing me error
    C:\oracleexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN>net start OracleXETNSListener
    System error 5 has occured
    Access is denied
    C:\oracleexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN>net start OracleServiceXE
    System error 5 has occured
    Access is denied
CAn anyone please help me out with this issue.

I didn't realize Vista Home Premium wasn't supported, so I went ahead and installed Oracle 10g R2 standard edition and then personal edition on 64-bit Vista Home Premium. The only problem I've had is that the DB Console doesn't work, which is why I came to this forum and thread. All I get is a blank page with a few chicken scratches, but everything else has been working so far. I've had to revert to command line SQL Plus, and I just imported a couple million rows from an export done on a Solaris server, so go figure. Obviously I'm not using it for a production database, but for my purposes so far it's done OK.

OUI-10151: There was an error while loading library.generalQueries. Stop installation of all products, Stop installation on this component.
I've found on internet some work around of this problem BUT only on linux machine, no one as telling me some way to fix my problem on windows vista.

By 11g I am assuming you mean 11.1.0.6 (11gR1). Pl post which Vista version you are using - 11gR1 is certified to be installed only on Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate editions.

    Hi all,
After installing an Oracle 10g Client for Windows Vista, when trying to connect to the database, i got the error No listner (TNS-12541). I checked the database listner but it's running and i can connect there from XP OS client. Does anybody have an idea about that.
tnsping give the same error also but when i ping the server it gives response.
Any body has experioenced the same problem, if yes could you help please it's very urgent.
    Thanks regards
    raitsarevo

    raitsarevo,
First of all: it's not very urgent. Very urgent requests end up in a SR at http://metalink.oracle.com.
Oracle doesn't support all editions of Vista and 10g may not even support Vista at all. Please refer to the download page for 10g at http://otn.oracle.com for further details.
A non-supported edition of Mickeysoft usually results in Oracle Net issues.
