Oracle10g on linux cluster

Hi;
Picture this, we have 3 server and they are cluster. Let us call those server A,B and C... We want to make oracle10g works on server A and when server A is gone oracle10g on B server take place of A, if server B gone too, oracle10g on C server take place of B....
Anyone has experience about it or advice me notes? i can find only this notes:
http://www.perftuning.com/pdf/white_paper_linux_cluster.pdf but i need one clear one or clean steps
Thanks a lot

HusseinHi Hussien;
Thanks for quick replay. I am already following this note :) Could you help me about understand this note clearly please. During the note, there are those steps for oracle dba:
1.Install Oracle software on both nodes and create an Oracle data
2.Prepare quorum devices on shared storage.
3.Install the Red Hat Cluster Manger Suite software.
4.Setup the Linux Cluster.
5.Define the Oracle Service.
From upper note, as i understanding ; step 1 and 5 are related wiht me.... Again during the note part:
Install Oracle software on both nodes and create an Oracle database It says this
Install the Oracle 10g binaries on both servers.  Do not create a database at this time. We will create the database after we have installed the binaries.   Make sure that your Oracle home is set to a local, non-shared, directory.  It is not advisable to install the Oracle Binaries on a shared partition at this time.
After the Oracle binaries have been installed, run netca to create a basic listener.  This should be run on both servers in the cluster. After the Oracle binaries have been installed, run netca to create a basic listener.  This should be run on both servers in the cluster.  To create your database you will need to have the shared storage LUN mounted to both nodes in the cluster.  Run dbca to create the database.  Choose the mount point for the shared storage as the location for the Oracle files.
1. By this +"Install the Oracle 10g binaries on both servers. Do not create a database at this time."+ i just install oracle 10g to all nodes?(On installation steps i will choose Oracle Enterprice Edition(877 Mb),then general purpose on next screen and intall it?)
2. By this "+After the Oracle binaries have been installed, run netca to create a basic listener. This should be run on both servers in the cluster. After the Oracle binaries have been installed, run netca to create a basic listener."+ As i know when i install oracle 10g its create listener too, so then why i have to need create again?(Oracle binaries=Oracle Enterprice Edition(877 Mb) if i choose it??)
Thanks

  • How can i install oracle 10g on linux cluster

    Dear all:
please advice How can i install oracle 10g on linux cluster service ..
    thanks ,,

Without RAC, you can only have one instance manage the database. One instance = one set of processes communicating via IPC.
Unless you know of a way to have processes use memory-based IPC across nodes, you need to pick a node and install & run the database software on that node.

  • NSM does not create homedirs in an OES2-Linux-Cluster

    Our situation:
The NSM Engine 2.5.1.1 (Jan 12 2010 15:30:55) is running under Netware6.5SP8, on the same server are also a NSM Event Monitor and a NSM Agent. We have a second server under SLES10SP3/OES2a with the Agent and Event Monitor running. While both Event servers can be seen with the NSM-Admin appliction the agent server configuration window displays only the Netware server, and the "eligible agent server" list consists only of Netware boxes.
The Netware and the Linux server contain both the complete replica of all partitions of our NDS-tree. Because we are on transition from Netware to Linux we deploy both Netware and Linux clusters (NCS)
    The problem:
On our Netware-cluster (NW6.5SP8) NSM is able to perform all operations (create homedir, move homedir, delete, browse with the Path Analysis tool). Neither does the Linux cluster. No homedirs are created. While the clustered volumes occure in the volume list, with the Path Analysis tool it isn't possible to browse these volumes. No directory tree of these clustered volumes is displayed, but an error message instead: "Policy paths are unreachable". Non clustered volumes on the Linux boxes (including NSS-Volumes SYS and VOL1) can be browsed with the Path Analysis tool.

    Hello,
I applied the last updates (no more warning signs in NSM-Admin-Tool) and after this the agent hosted on the linux box is visible in the Admin-Tool.
While rebuilding the volume list the following two kinds of messages appear:

  • Linux Cluster File System partitions for 10g RAC

    Hi Friends,
I planned to install 2 Node Oracle 10g RAC on RHEL and I planned to use Linux File system itself for OCR,Voting Disk and datafiles (no OCFS2/RAW/ASM)
    I am having SAN storage.
I would like to know how do i create shared/cluster partitions for OCR,Voting Disk and Datafiles (common storage on SAN).
Do i need to install any Linux cluster file system for creating these shared partitions (as we have sun cluster in solaris)?
If so let me know what versions are supported and provide the necessary Note / Link

Purpose is studying.Studying what exactly? Clusters are more than just shared disks.
I want to restablish a single instance and database using OS cluster. The shared disk just can be seen by on node server, then I can manually test this OS cluster and make switching between two nodes at least. This is not really a cluster. A cluster supports scalability - for example, if a process load is too large for a single node, some of it can spill over and be executed by another node or multiple other cluster nodes.
If you talk about standard Linux clustering, that would be running some kind of number crunching s/w (weather modeling, crunching astronomy data, etc) and running this across multiple cluster nodes.
A shared cluster storage system is one possible component of a cluster.
Taking your example - a shared cluster file system is not needed. As the other nodes cannot use that file system (if it does, it can corrupt database files) - only a single non RAC database instance can use the database. Thus the file system can only be used by a single instance on a single server. No clustering needed.
When that server fails, that file system (from the storage server) needs to be mounted on another server and the database instance started on that server.
This is not really a true cluster - simply a high availability and redundant configuration using multiple servers.
If you want to study actual real clustering - do some research using Google. Create a simple project like calculating pi for example and create a virtual 2 or 3 node cluster that run this processing in parallel - using a shared cluster file system for data storage.

I also set ORACLE_HOME environment variable before the configure commnad.

    Raja C
please give me suggestion to configure the oracle10g.

I was having horrible troubles installing Oracle XE on FC5 until I realized one thing -- I had upgraded packages.
You have to do the installs just as you want them off the CDs, then install Oracle XE, then upgrade your other packages. I'm not sure which one, but one of the upgrade packages breaks the XE install.
You would also have trouble with linking ntcontab if you were doing an oracle 10gR2 install with the upgraded set. I haven't figured out why yet but I spent all weekend on it ;)

  • How to install a parallel Server in a linux cluster

Hi, I'm from O'Porto University and we are trying to install a Oracle 8.1.5 Parallel Server on a Linux Beowulf Cluster.
Do any body have some ideas or documentation that can be useful.
    Thanks.

    OK.
Next I put the question I see in the oracle site in a paper that parallel server on linux is not available, and this question is being solved by the implementation of new funtionalities from the linux kernel.

  • Linux cluster, no single point of failure

I'm having difficulty setting up a Business Objects cluster in linux with no single point of failure.  Following the instructions for custom install I am ending up connecting to the CMS server on the other server and no CMS running on the server i'm doing the install on. Which is a cluster, however we only have CMS running on one server in this scenario and we can't have a single point of failure.  Could someone explain how to setup a 2 server clustered solution on linux that doesn't have a single point of failure.

not working, I can see my other node listed in the config, but the information for the servers state that the SIA is available, I've checked network/port connectivity between the boxes and SIA is running and available for each box.
Via the instructions for installing on a system with windows capabilities I read about a step to connect to an existing CMS.

via the linux install.sh script, no matter what I do I'm not coming across any way that allows me to reach that step.

Has anyone tried to use oracle on a cluster like for example beowolf?

I have not done it myself but I know that Oracle can be implemented on such cluster. At the Compaq web site you should be able to find out info about Linux clusters implemented on their high availability servers.

We have a oracle 10g asm instance running on Solaris 10 cluster. During maintenance activity, we shutdown the database using cluster but startup of the database is carried out by DBA & not thru cluster. We then start the cluster service of the database after the manual startup. Is this fine & we can continue this practise or the recommended way is to start db thru cluster?

you can enable the database to startup automatically and test it by adding the asm database in the Oracle Clusterware.
