Hi,
I am having dual boot on my PC for xp and linux.
I have installed oracle 10g on xp.
Now My question is :
1.Can I access oracle from Linux operating system with sql commands and throughshell.
2.Is it required me ti install separate oracle10 db on linux again to access it.
3.where I will get the detail information of installing oracle on linux(version Fedora 6) and what sort of precaution
required ?

Normally it is possible to access an oracle database running on XP from Linux. But I wonder if this will work with a dual boot configuration!?! You can boot ether Windows or Linux but not both. So if windows is running with your DB your Linux is not and if Linux is running windows is not. Use vmware/vbox or any other virtualization software to solve this problem. This should the answer to your question number 1 and 2 (yes you have to install oracle separate on Linux if you want to access it from linux without virtualization).

Problem Configureing Oracle10g with linux fedora core5

dear forum members,
when i try to configure oracle 10g in linux fedora core5 with the followning commnad
# /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure
I get the follwoing error message
Starting Oracle Net Listener...Done
Configuring Database...grep: /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/config/log/*.log: No such file or directory
Done
/bin/chmod: cannot access `/usr/lib/oracle/xe/oradata/XE': No such file or directory
/bin/chmod: cannot access `/usr/lib/oracle/xe/oradata/XE': No such file or directory
I also set ORACLE_HOME environment variable before the configure commnad.

please give me suggestion to configure the oracle10g.

I was having horrible troubles installing Oracle XE on FC5 until I realized one thing -- I had upgraded packages.
You have to do the installs just as you want them off the CDs, then install Oracle XE, then upgrade your other packages. I'm not sure which one, but one of the upgrade packages breaks the XE install.
You would also have trouble with linking ntcontab if you were doing an oracle 10gR2 install with the upgraded set. I haven't figured out why yet but I spent all weekend on it ;)

Oracle10g on linux cluster

Hi;
Picture this, we have 3 server and they are cluster. Let us call those server A,B and C... We want to make oracle10g works on server A and when server A is gone oracle10g on B server take place of A, if server B gone too, oracle10g on C server take place of B....
Anyone has experience about it or advice me notes? i can find only this notes:

Thanks for quick replay. I am already following this note :) Could you help me about understand this note clearly please. During the note, there are those steps for oracle dba:
1.Install Oracle software on both nodes and create an Oracle data
2.Prepare quorum devices on shared storage.
3.Install the Red Hat Cluster Manger Suite software.
4.Setup the Linux Cluster.
5.Define the Oracle Service.
From upper note, as i understanding ; step 1 and 5 are related wiht me.... Again during the note part:
Install Oracle software on both nodes and create an Oracle database It says this
Install the Oracle 10g binaries on both servers. Do not create a database at this time. We will create the database after we have installed the binaries. Make sure that your Oracle home is set to a local, non-shared, directory. It is not advisable to install the Oracle Binaries on a shared partition at this time.

다름이 아니라 현재 운영 중인 DB서버에서 프롬프트 상에서
OS 명령어들( 예를 들어 ls 등 )을 치면 첫번째는 아무런 응답이 없이
프롬프트가 떨어지고 두번째에는 그 명령어를 두 번 수행한 결과가 나옵니다.
(예시)
COMISN1@oracle : /oracle > ls
COMISN1@oracle : /oracle > ls
.Xauthority 1207_cpu_db1_2nd.txt 1207_queue_db1_2nd.txt RDA/ dbmon/ mis_sys.dmp oraInventory/

ls 명령어뿐만 아니라 모든 명령어들이 그런 것 같습니다.
현재 여러 서버에 같은 이미지로 Linux가 설치되어 있고,
DBMS도 같은 버전으로 똑 같이 설치되어 있는데 싱글 DB서버는 아무런
문제가 없고 RAC 로 구성된 DB서버만 그런 것 같습니다.
현재 DB 구성은 다음과 같습니다.
DBMS : Oracle 10g 3 Node RAC(10.2.0.2)

Problem oracle10g on linux

Hi. I have dell server which there is installed suse enter.server 10(64 bit).It is ram 16G and I install here oracle 10g.
But i can not (max perfomance ) configure for 16G because linux see only 8g.
How do i solve this problem?

What about other two commands:
free and dmesg | grep Memory
Are they too showing just 8GB?
If so, then You have problem with RAM on Your server - contact server admin or some tehnican or call salesman. Maybe some different RAM was inserted or damaged RAM ... there can be lot of reasons.
Look carefully at
dmesg | less
What it is saying about memory and contact tehnical person (if You have support for hardware or guarantee - contact them).

Oracle10g How to configure HTTPS to access EM in Linux

I have installed Oracle10g on Linux Enterprise Server on XEON-based server.
I can run Oracle Enterprise Manager (EM) via
http://127.0.0.1:5500/em
Since EM will be unsafe to run on the Internet without SSL, does any one knows how to configure and enable Oracle10g to enable SSL access? Which port does it use?

Since EM will be unsafe to run on the Internet without SSLIt's generally bad idea to "share" administration site over internet (unless you don't have some VPN tunnel), because if you have weak passwords for DB users then you are asking for problems.

Build problem with makepkg of linux in the abs(core/linux)

I wanted to have a taste of systemtap, I read this page:https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Systemtap,and followed the guide,but had problem like this:
scripts/link-vmlinux.sh: line 135: ./.config: No such file or directory
It looks like the configuration file is gone, I checked a little about PKGBUILD, and finded the .config was generated at almost the begining, and i didn't know why it comed this problem.
Is there anyone have experience like this and help me ?
PS: my current linux version is
# pacman -Q linux
linux 3.7.9-2
and use the latest core/linux in abs repo

for the ifconfig u will not get the settings done for the static address bcoz while installing linux i have configured for using the static address method and when i checked for connecting to internet i was not able to so using command line i changed for DHCP configuration and then internet worked
i changed the following files
1. /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
2. /etc/sysconfig/network
3. ifup eth0
4.ifconfig eth0 up
5.chkconfig
6.service network restart
after doing all these i checked for connecting to internet and was successful
why internet does not work in linux when configured for static address
Can we go for dual boot

OEM is not running after changing the host ip in Oracle10g !

I am installing Oracle10g in Linux RHEL 5 . After installing , I have to also configure OEM database control interface successfully . During installing I use IP '192.168.0.1' , and configure OEM using this ip . But after some times I need to change the host ip address only , then I cannot browse the OEM interface . It shows blank page and give the below error :

Do not need recreate OEM repository.You have to need change some file`s context. try do following.
1.Go $ORACLE_HOME\<HOSTNAME>_<SID>\sysman\config then edit emoms.properties file. Change following parameters with properly(correct) values(using new IP address):
oracle.sysman.emSDK.svlt.ConsoleServerHost,
oracle.sysman.eml.mntr.emdRepServer,
oracle.sysman.eml.mntr.emdRepConnectDescriptor.
2. Go $ORACLE_HOME\<HOSTNAME>_<SID>\sysman\emd edit targets.xml file. Change
<Property NAME="MachineName" if different real name .
3. export ORACLE_SID=<SID>
emctl start dbconsole

You like have database without sample HR schema ?
I think that is not possible install option.
But that is only one schema, and you can drop it after install if you do not need it.

I know that Oracle 10gR2 vs Windows Server 2008 is not supported and Oracle Standalone vs Hardware Cluster, neither too, but it's possible or will be a source of big problems?

In each server we had different numver of database. I mean on machine a we have 3 database, on server B we have 4 database and on server C we have 7
What i do for this:
1. I install 10g database software only (not created database)
2. using netca and create listener for each database
3. using dbca and create database for each server.While on dbca wizard i gave SAN path for dbf
4. Linux admin arrange all other stuff(I mean when db1 on server A crash server B take responsibility of Server A and db1 keep working)

all i did is change the folder name from
/home/oracle/oracle10g 4 linux/oracle10g/database
to
/home/oracle/oracle10g/database

Changing DB_NAME after database installation

now I want to change the database name DB_NAME for security reasons.
How can i do this? and where all i need to the changes for the database and EM to come back up successfully.
