please help me about the following doubts regarding oracle 10g
1) why SCN is updated even if there are no transactions done?
2) even after removing the DBF, its showing data, how?
3) why it takes time when we switch b/w logs... and sometimes its beeing fast and taking time sometimes... ?

1) why SCN is updated even if there are no transactions done?Well, you need to understand one thing first that SCN is not going to just increase with the transacton being present . SCN is oracle's way to implement time and time is always increasing. So in that way, SCN is also increasing as well. In Oracle. every read has to be consistent so each statement, be it whatever, needs to check that its reading the consistent data only. So with each read too, you issue a request for the most recent SCN and thats also one reason that you would find that even with the statements too, its increasing. The other reason , which Navneet mentioned ,. there is always some thing going on so that again would call for the increaes of the scn.
2) even after removing the DBF, its showing data, how?Its good to mention the o/s when you ask question like this. What you are saying is not possible over windows but only over nix based systems. The reason is that at times, in nix systems, even though the file is given for a delete. the process doesn't release the inode of the file and Oracle still assumes that its there. The other reason can be that the data that you are selecting is in the cache and deleting a file from the oi/s doesn't flush its data from the cache. So it may happen that you are getting data selected from the cache.
3) why it takes time when we switch b/w logs... and sometimes its beeing fast and taking time sometimes... ?Some times we reach office early and some times , we get traffic jams, can you tell when what happens? You start for the office early, no traffic is there. You get to the office early. You woke up late( thanks to the late night party) and now you are starting on the peak time, you would get more delayed. The same is true for switching part too. The redo log file, on which you are switching needs to be empty before you switch over it and it would be empty only after the checkpointing of its data is over by DBWR. The more the data is , the more time dbwr would take. Or the more faster you try to come back to the file due to small size of it, the more early you would request for the file and would get delayed in gettnig it as the file might still getting checkpointed.

Please help! I have created a OLAP model then created a Metaoutline.
Then I went ahead to do the Member and Data load. I logged into my server and started the member and data load.
Then it gives me the following error:

OS Error No such file or directory IS Error Member load terminated with error.
The load terminated with errors.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!! ORA-12154

I installed Oracle10g XE on my laptop on VISTA.
Im able to connect to sqlplus using -> sqlplus system/password@XE
Then i installed PL/SQL developer and Im NOT ABLE TO CONNECT with the same credentials. Throws me error: ORA-12154:TNS:Could not resolve the connect identifier Specified

1. I jus have one Oracle Home installed on my laptop (vista). there is jus one ORACLE_HOME Environment variable! Only one installation of oracle!!!!

About listener mistake,please help me!!

I installed oracle10g on RHEL4 successfuly(ship.db.lnx32.cpio).But I get errors when I execute lsnrctl:

I checked the $ORACLE_HOME is alright,and the user's permission is enough.
I am not sure how to fix them,please help me,thank you!

Typing sqlplus and getting a response may simply mean that you have the PATH set up correctly.
The listener also needs to find things like the listener.ora file, and for that it wants to have the ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID.
When I have problems, the first thing I do in RedHat or SuSE is:
set | grep -i ORA
and make sure I have reasonable entries for ORACLE_SID, ORACLE_HOME and PATH
To set everything properly, I use Andreas' suggestion and enter
. oraenv ... to use the /usr/local/bin/oraenv routine (/user/local/bin is hardcoded in my PATH)
As a matter of fact, the .profile or .bash_profile for all the userids that are supposed to access or manage oracle have the lines
export ORACLE_SID=orcl # change orcl to the default SID you want to use
ORAENV_ASK=NO
. oraenv
ORAENV_ASK=
just to make sure the SID, HOME and PATH are set properly. You would be surprised how many problems this resolves.

Please help me moving devlopment datbase to testing database

1)Createdservice jee using oradim
2) Copied all the oracle10g oradata folder from one windows server and pasted in another server in the jee folder
3)
edit the init.ora file
changed db_name and controlfile location etc..
Note: both server oracle10g database installed

That one's from a book. I used that code to start with my applet. Mine calls different merthod from the switch cases. Say I have:

Apple Mini DVI to Video Adapter is not working. Please Help...

I bought an Apple Mini DVI to Video Adapter to connect my Macbook to a TV using normal video cable. When I connect the cable, my Laptop DIsplay gives a flickr once and then it shows nothing. I checked Display in the system preference where I don't get a secondary monitor option. My TV is panasonic and it's an old one. I work on Final Cut Pro and it's very very important to see my videos on a TV. What am I doing wrong with the connection? Anyone Please Please help...

Your probably not doing anything wrong. There are thousands of users with Similar issues and it seems to be with many different adapters.
We have Mini DP to VGA (3 different brands) and they all fail most of the time. This seems more prevalent with LCD Projectors. I've tested some (50+) with VGA Monitor (HP) and they all worked, LCD Projector (Epson, Hitachi, and Sanyo) and they all fail, DLP Projector (Sanyo) and one worked.
My Apple Mini DP to DVi works most of the time. My Mini DP to HDMI (Generic non Apple) works every time.
The general consensus is that Apple broke something in the OS around 10.6.4 or 10.6.5 and its not yet fixed. As we are a school we have logged a case with the EDU Support group so will see what happens.

PSE icons instead of the photo. I need to view photos at a glance. Please help me????

Please help, this is driving me crazy. I have downloaded my free PSE #9, it came with my Leica Camera. I cannot view at a glance any of my photos. There is only an icon that reads, PSE. To view any of my photos, I must click select and then preview. This gets old, and I am doing 4 times the work. I am having to use the dates to guess where my photos might be. I hate this! My old Photo Shop #5 didn't do this. When you went to my pictures, you could see every photo.
I have tried the right click and open as any program. What ever program I choose, that is the icon that appears. No photo. Still no good.

Hi,
Are you using Windows Explorer to view the files?
If so, load Explorer, go to the Tools menu and select Folder Options.
Click on the View tab and make sure the first option (Always show icons, never thumbnails) is not checked.
Click on OK and see if that is any better.

Lock-Ups and Freezes PLEASE HELP

Hello everyone..
I come here to see if anyone can help me... Ive done it all and nothing is working.
I just recently started having problems with my computer, im not sure why this happend but ill try to explain everything as best as I can.
The problem started a few days ago while I was playing SWG's. I was playing and all of a sudden my machine froze, the screen locked-up and then after about 2 min the entire system restarted. I then logged back into my windows and after a while a system froze and restarted yet again. I though it was a SWGs issue but then the computer would freeze while browsing the net and doing other tasks.
I have formated my machine, re-installed my drivers, and re-installed the hardward. Nothing has worked.
My computer specs are
300watt PSU Enermax True Power

512mb of Kingmax DDR 2700
SB audigy x-gamer sound card

If what you are saying, and I am reading correctly:
The machine and game was working just peachy and all of a sudden the problem manifested itself?
Did you do ANYTHING to change your system prior to this happening to possibly have an effect?
the fast that you said you have re-loaded the OS and removed and re-installed the hardware with the same result tells me that there may be some sort of hardware failure and this could get difficult to troubleshoot.
First things first, try a memory testing software like memtest86 to see if you get any errors.

If it says your billing info is wrong that means that your credit card issuer is refusing to approve your account. You will have to solve the problem with your bank or credit card company.
