Oracle7 with Jakarta Tomcat
Has anyone had any success running Tomcat JSP against Oracle7?
I've downgraded to the classes111.zip and jdk1.1.8 to avoid the infamous "End of TNS Data Channel" errors that don't seem to have a solution.
This works fine to run a java app from the command-line, but I think the new JSP spec requires Java2. At least, when I try to run my JSP, I get a 500 error about java/util/ArrayList. I get the same thing when I try to run the NumGuess example JSP.
So, can anyone coach me through a scenario with Oracle7 and Tomcat. I'm willing to use any combination of versions of Oracle JDBC-lite driver and jdk.
Hey man, i have the same problem, what should I do?
I can`t define the classpath when I run the server as service, but it works when i run manually starup.bat, because there i have defined the classpath.
Please, give me an advice
Thanks...

Help with running servlet with jakarta tomcat
I had recently created a couple of java servlets and wanted to run them. I had put the .class files in Tomcat 4.1\webapps\Root\ then typed in http://localhost:8080/ then the servlet in the web browser. Here was the error page copied and pasted. If I put http://localhost:8080/servlet.class instead of http://localhost:8080/servlet I get a popup saying do I want to download the .class file. Theres probley a simple solution to this. Anyone know of any free hosts that will host servlets for free?

Apache Tomcat/4.1.18
Thanks in advance
GeorgeHi I have the compiler jdk1.1.8 and wanted to upgrade my version. I downloaded the j2sdk1.4.1_01. I have the classpath set and everything. When I attempt to compile my java servlet it gives me an error but when I compile it with jdk1.1.8 it works.
Isn't jakarta-tomcat-3.2.3 different compared the the one I have jakarta-tomcat4.1.18? Anyway thats what I read somewhere. The instructions you gave me do you think they are different because of us having different verions? I don't know if this is normal but whenever I startup my computer it just automaticly starts up tomcat server so when I put http://localhost:8080 it goes to the page saying I setup tomcat successfully. When I try to shutdown it doesn't do it.
About the classpath. I thought i'm supposed to only put one path. So if I were to do that it would look like path set TOMCAT_HOME=C:\jdk1.1.8\Program Files\Apache Group\Tomcat 4.1 Thats how I would set it on my computer. I already installed and ran tomcat. I think your right I need to check the documentation correctly.
Thanks in advance

XSQL-003 Error with jakarta-tomcat-4.0.3
I am trying to set up the XSQLServlet on JBuilder7 using jakarta-tomcat-4.0.3 as the development server.
I downloaded and carefully follwed the installation instructions for Tomcat 3.1 and 3.2 although the bat files have changed considerably. Set classpath in setclasses.bat and prescribed in instructions. Setup a context in server.xml for /xsql and setup a web.xml file to map oracle-xsql-servlet to *.xsql. Also tried mapping to *.xsql in web.xml for my application, but I continue to get the XSQL-003 error; "failed to find XSQLConfig.xml in the server classpath". I checked the discussion forums and tried jarring the XSQLConfig.xml file and set that in the server CLASSPATH. Still no luck.
My question: Are there any installation instructions for installing the XSQLServlet on Jakarta Tomcat 4.0.3?
Tomcat can't find the XSQLConfig.xml file or there is some other problem that is throwing this exception.Hey man, i have the same problem, what should I do?
I can`t define the classpath when I run the server as service, but it works when i run manually starup.bat, because there i have defined the classpath.
Please, give me an advice
Thanks... -

But when I embed it within the Jakarta Tomcat, I have a security exception.
Can anyone help me??
cheers,Sorry about it....
I'm using JDom.
The error message is Ctx(/Chatting) : Status code:403 request:R( /Chatting + /M
ETA-INF/services/javax.xml.parsers.SAXParserFactory + null) msg:Forbidden directory
The scenario is like I have to login to my system using a web application.
A thread will parse the XML but the above error occurs.

P.S. I have Tomcat working with jdk1.2.x + ThinDriver8.1.6 + Oracle8i; I just haven't been able to talk to an Oracle7 instance. I need to talk to both.If you put your jsp's under webapps/web_app_name/myJspSubdir etc, it should work, provided your beans are still in WEB-INF/classes (ie don't change the directory structure for your beans) - is this what you've done, and still have problems?
Are you sure it's the JSP that can't find the bean, and not that the JSP can't be found by Tomcat? -
hi calverstine here, i have been trying to connect tomcat to mysql using mysql-connector-java-3.1.10, but does not have any clue how to do it, if you guys ask me to refer to :
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/connector/j/en/cj-classpath.html
it only told me about installing mysql to unix platform tomcat , not windows xp sp1, is there any tutorial tat's useful for using the mysql-connector-java-3.1.10? where should i place this folder after i unzipped it? what is CLASSPATH as being written in the previous URL that told us to set the environment variable?..anybody care to help?You need to place the driver jar in a place that tomcat can access it; if that place is not already in the classpath for Tomcat, then you need to add it.
After that, you need to supply application code for Tomcat to contain that will use the driver and do whatever it is you want.
If you don't know how to do any of that, you need to either read the Tomcat documentation, or learn basic Java development. -
Unable to compile .jsp files with Jakarta Tomcat 5.5.3
Hello,
I am unable to reflect the changes that I am making in my .jsp files on my server. I am using Fedora core 4. It's like the .jsp files are not being compiled anymore. Please help! I would greatly appreciate any feedback. Thanks for your time.Thanks for your reply. My .jsp files where working just fine before I changed the layout of the output. Even making changes to a simple file that contains: <% out.println("Welcome to the jsp page!"); %> to the following: <% out.println("Welcome to the jsp page! Today is the day!"); %> does not work. I have cleared the browser by deleting all cookies, temp files, history, etc. The changes to my file are not being compiled. I thought that in JSP 2.0 changes to your files where compiled automatically. Am I missing something? Please help!

PTG and Jakarta Tomcat 3.2
Hello!
Has anyone tried to get PTG up and running with Jakarta Tomcat 3.2?
I am thinking of giving this a try and would appreciate input from everybody who has experience with the combination.
Thanks!
Stephan.This is the error i get when i tried to run startup.bat from command prompt.
Including all jars in ..\lib in your CLASSPATH.
Files\Java\jre1.5.0_03\lib\ext\QTJava.zip"" was unexpected at this time.
What can be the reason ? and the solution ? -
JDBC and JAKARTA TOMCAT 4.01
Hello,
I've a problem with Jakarta Tomcat 4.01. With that, I can't access to my DB from a jsp page. However that works with Jakarta Tomcat 3.2.1 and from a simple java program.
I work with Windows 2k and I've installed tomcat 4.01 service.
I've reboot several time the service.
thanks for your help.I'm new at this, but when I upgraded from Tomcat 3.x to 4.0.1, I had to change my user DSN within the ODBC icon on the Windows Control panel.
I highlighed the user DSN, hit the configure button and remapped the path to my database.
Again, I'm new at this game, but I hope this provides some assistance.

Consider the Following Code with j2sdk1.4.0_01/jakarta-tomcat-4.0.1
try {
Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("Jdbc:Odbc:IMSMC","sa","");
String sql="select * from <Table Name> ";
Statement stmt=conn.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE,ResultSet.CONCUR_READ_ONLY);
*************Some Code ******************
catch (Exception ex) {
ex.printStackTrace();
}//End of catch
}//End of Try
The Tomcat automatically shuts down If I'm using Scrollable
Result Set and the following Error Occurs.

If I'm using Not using Scrollable Result Set, No Error is Thrown.
Error is Thrown only with Scrollable Result set and with j2sdk1.4.0_01Did you forget to put the SQL statement in when you used createStatement? I added it below:
Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("Jdbc:Odbc:IMSMC","sa","");
String sql="select * from <Table Name> ";
Statement stmt=conn.createStatement(sql, ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE,ResultSet.CONCUR_READ_ONLY);
Does the JDBC-ODBC bridge driver accomodate any of these settings you're trying?
The problem shouldn't have anything to do with Tomcat. Sounds like a JDBC driver issue to me. Try to reproduce the error without Tomcat, and then see if adding the SQL corrects things at all.
I'd read the docs to see if the bridge driver has these features. I don't think it's up to the full standard. -
Jakarta-tomcat-3.3.2 connection with mysql-4.1.12a-win32
how do i connect to mysql using tomcat?
i've set the class path = ".;D:\j2sdk1.4.2_08\jre\lib\ext\mysql-connector-java-3.1.10-bin.jar;"
without quotes
i've copy the mysql-connector-java mysql-connector-java-3.1.10-bin.jar into the mentioned directory = "D:\j2sdk1.4.2_08\jre\lib\ext\"
and my computer's mysql 's service is starting since my computer restart [i've checked it by right click desktop toolbar->Task Manager->Processes->mysqld-nt.exe..
and i've used the code from :
http://www.stardeveloper.com/articles/display.html?article=2003090201&page=4
to test if my connection is active, my JdbcExample1.java file is located at D:\jakarta-tomcat-3.3.2\webapps\ROOT\WEB-INF\classes\com\example, so my source code is :
package com.example;
import java.sql.*;
public class JdbcExample1 {
public static void main(String args[]) {
Connection con = null;
try {
Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance();
con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql:///test", "root", "nothing");
if(!con.isClosed())
System.out.println("Successfully connected to MySQL server...");
} catch(Exception e) {
System.err.println("Exception: " + e.getMessage());
} finally {
try {
if(con != null)
con.close();
} catch(SQLException e) {}
when i compile the file using javac, it's fine, when i run it using java, it shows me this error:

what have i missed out? anyone can u please help me? is my coding or setting in-accurate? thanks for reviewing my topics tooI'm not sure why you have mentioned Tomcat, but you need to run the class with something like:
java -classpath .;D:\j2sdk1.4.2_08\jre\lib\ext\mysql-connector-java-3.1.10-bin.jar com.example.JdbcExample1If you've correctly set the CLASSPATH environment variable then you can leave out the -classpath command line argument. Notice that you must specify the package of the class too.
To compile this all correctly, you should do something like:
mkdir classes
javac -d classes JdbcExample1.javaand then run with
java -classpath classes;D:\j2sdk1.4.2_08\jre\lib\ext\mysql-connector-java-3.1.10-bin.jar com.example.JdbcExample1 -

SudaAsking the same question in the same way with a different subject will not get it
answered any faster...

As a matter of fact, I HATE when people do that....
If anyone knew the answer and wanted to get the duke dollars (if any)
(suggest you offer some)
then they would answer... the FIRST time.
The answer to your question seems to be:
1) DO SOME RESEARCH!
2) RTFM!
3) WRITE SOME TESTS
4) READ/STUDY THE API
