Oracle8 Enterprise Edition for Windows 8.0.6 - Info reqd.  Pls help !

I’m a naïve user in Oracle and would like to know the following details from the Gurus.
Any information in this regard will be highly appreciated !
We are trying to use Oracle8 Enterprise Edition for Windows 8.0.6 for some specific reason.
Some general doubts regarding the installation.
1. Is any installation specific to the OS language (English/Japanese) ?
2. Say, if I get an installation for Windows, would I be able to use the same for a Japanese Windows version?
3. During the installation, choose the default language as Japanese?
Also, if we would need to install Oracle8 Enterprise Edition for Windows 8.0.6 in a Japanese OS, what should we do?
Can we procure a license for the same? Oracle8 Enterprise Edition for Windows 8.0.6
Can we get the media?
Please advice. Many thanks in advance.

The best way to arrange this is to contact Oracle sales and talk very nice to them.
You are asking to have someone provide you with a piece of software that was very full of bugs and made obsolete before year 2000. Oracle will probably not be very happy to do that.
Besides, Oracle is so upward compatible that - unless you depend on the bugs - you should be able to use any currently supported version. Such as Oracle9i or Oracle10g.

  • Windows NT 4.0 Workstation vs Oracle8i Enterprise edition

Can anyone tell me if Oracle8i Enterprise edition supports Windows NT 4.0 Workstation, or do I have to have Windows NT 4.0 Server?
I am wanting to get actual "hands-on" with the Oracle database while studying for DBA certification.
You can email me at [email protected] or please leave a post.
    Thank you,

You're not going to believe this, but I have an .ISO of NT4.0 Workstation. I don't have a key for it, but if you have an old copy, I would think you can use that key. I can upload it to somewhere like FileDropper if you'd like (it's ~590MB). Let me know
here, and I'll post the link to it once it's done, if you want it.

  • Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard/Personal Edition for Windows NT/2000/

    Hi,
Ive just been trying to download your Oracle9i Database Release Enterprise/Standard/Personal Edition for Windows NT/2000/XP for my home computer, but it wont even download properly. The Disk 1 file, "92010NT_Disk1.zip", intializes, and downloads in less than a second, saying all 67.7kb is complete, taking into consideration the file is over 600mb big. When i open the *.zip file, its absolutely empty. I tried the links for Disk 2 and Disk 3, and they are working perfectley.
    Whats going on?
Is there a bug on my side, or OTN's?
    Will this be fixed soon?
Or should i download an older version?
A little feed back would be grately appreciated, due to the fact i cant find the latest version of Oracle anywhere else on the World Wide Web.
    Thank you for your time.
    - File: 92010NT_Disk1.zip
    - Date/Time: 03/09/02 11:30PM
    - Internet Browser: IE 6.0.2600.0000
    - O/S: Windows 2000
PS: Your "Preview" Button didnt seem to work for me either.

    Hi Peter,
I downloaded the same zip files as you did for my home pc. The first zip file was not able to be unzipped by winzip. So I had to download the fisrt zip file again from OTN and the second time it was fine. I got all three zip files extracted and ran the setup.exe. Everything was fine till this point.
My problem is that Oracle 9i release 2 personal edition is not for XP home edition. I couldn't get the database correctly configured.

  • Migrating SQL Server 7.0 Database to Oracle8i Enterprise Edition

    Hello,
I am running SQL Server 7.0 and Oracle8i Enterprise Edition on a
Windows 2000 Server OS. I need to migrate the SQL Server 7.0 database
over to Oracle8i side. I have tried the SQL Server 7.0 export utility
and the Oracle8i import utility without much luck. I am now trying to
use the Migration Workbench for version 8.1.7 and am having even less
luck than the SQL Server 7.0 export utility. I have, also, tried
downloading Oracle's latest ODBC driver for v8.1.7 without any luck.
As far as I can tell, the problems are occuring with the BIT to
NUMBER(1) conversions (the data is captured as 0s and -1s instead of
0s and 1s) and the CROSS JOINs in the views.
I have also been to the otn.oracle.com news groups and there doesn't
seem to be much there either.
Has anyone had any success with the Migration Workbench and if so, how
many scripts, "massages", etc. needed to be done?
I have only begun working with Oracle in the last 3 weeks and would
TRUELY appreciate any help anyone can give me.
    Thank you in advance,

    ORA-12541: TNS: no listener.

I created LISTENER.ORA file and now i am unable to start the Listener.
Please let me know how to configure SQL NET and its components, and also to start LISTENER on my PC.
    Thanks & Regards,

    hi,
compare the entries in listener.ora and tnsnames.ora files.
actually both should match with one another.
Ensure that the supplied destination address matches one of the addresses used by the listener
hope this will solve ur problem. if not send me mail with above those two files.
    regards,

    If running install on server:
    DISPLAY=localhost:0.0; export DISPLAY
If running install from remote system:
    DISPLAY={yourlocalsystemname}:0.0; export DISPLAY
you may need to run "xhost +{yourlocalsystemname}" on the server as well.

    Hi,
Here you can find the officially Hardware and Software Requirements for SQL Server 2008 R2:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506(v=sql.105).aspx
There should be NO problem as much as I know if the basic limitation fit you (as shanky mentioned).

  • How to install oracle enterprise edition on windows 2000

I have tried installing oracle 8.04 enterprise edition for NT on windows 2000 for several times. But it always missed listening on some serives.
    could anyone help me?
    Thank you!

I am installing Oracle 816 on Win 2K Server. Its installing everything except I am getting error while in the
process of creating Instance and Initializing it.
    I am getting
    Oracle Database Configuration Assistant Alert
    "ORA-12638: Credential retrieval failed"
while in the process of copying database files and initializing database. And the process is halting
at this point with showing 85% completion. Do you think any conflict between OS files between Win 4.0
    and Win 2K?
What do I have to do to resolve this.
I tried to Install on 3 machines and I get this problem on all machines. But, when I Upgrade to Win 2K from NT 4.0 and doing the Oracle 816 Installation, I am succesfull.
This is happening only on fresh Install of Win 2K.

  • Does Oracle8 Enterprise Edition support case insensitive data

    Hi!
I want migrating our Microsoft SQL server 7.0 to Oracle8 ,
so, I installed Oracle8 Enterprise Edition Release 8.05 for NT.
With the installation I did, Oracle8 is case sensitive .
Since Microsoft SQL server supports case insensitive SQL data,
I would like to know whether Oracle8 supports case insensitive data.
If yes, how to make the configuration?
    Thank you!

I don't think oracle supports case insensitivity. I really wish it did!
Please repost if you find a solution, I would be interested in learning about it.

You can order a "CD Pack" from oraclestore.oracle.com. This is probably what you want anyway, because the download doesn't include all the manuals and so forth--that's only on a separate CD that comes with the "pack."
I think the packs cost about $40 if you get them under an eval/development license. If you already have support from Oracle, you might even be entitled to get these for free--check your support agreement.
And there is no built-in time limit, these are the same CDs you get when you pay the full license fee.

The status bar on my Internet Explorer slowly increases, but never allows me to download. It just hangs. I've looked at it and it seems fine. It might have been a temporary glitch - let us know if you continue to have trouble.
