Oracle8 Navigator & iConnect Consolidator

I'm trying to configure iConnect Consolidator, but I don't have the ability to do that in Oracle8 Navigator. If I right-click Oracle Navigator and select properties/preferences the iConnect Consolidator option is grey and unclickable. The documentation suggests that I can create Consolidator clients and configure the server through Navigator. I downloaded the newest version 4.0.1 from oracle's site.
Please advise,
Thanks, Serge

I figured this one out the hard way. The 'CONSOLIDATOR_HOME' and 'CONSOLIDATOR20' keys in the registry had to be copied from ORACLE section to HOME1 (Oracle Lite) section. Also note that if you get errors re/ MSHELP and NAV8 when uninstalling, copy these keys from the HOME1 section to the ORACLE section.

You have a bad version of jdbc driver classes111.zip ! The standard Oracle Lite driver is only for v8.0.5 or v8.1.5 and your version is diferent! You must download the right one from Download section of Oracle web. Then make copy of Oracle Lite CD to your hard disk and replace all files classes111.zip with downloaded file and run installation from hard disk.

  • Differences between Oracle9i Lite and Oracle8i Personal

    Hi,
I've read that Oracle8i Personal is a full-featured version of
Oracle8i. But I would like to know if the Oracle9i Lite version

Check out the readme document for Oracle9i Lite. It goes over your questions regarding new and desupported features.
Here is some information from the readme:
    Deprecated Features and Components
iConnect - an umbrella term for Oracle8i Lite's synchronization and messaging component
C-REPAPI - replaced by the more powerful Mobile Server/Consolidator. C-REPAPI and related components such as Java Replication Classes, Replication Cartridge, OCX Wrapper has been removed from the CD
Oracle Mobile Agent - used for wireless replication under the C-REPAPI replication technology. Obsolete because C-REPAPI is no longer part of Oracle9i Lite
Web-to-Go Server - integrated in Mobile Server
Consolidator Server - integrated in Mobile Server
Synchronization Server for Handheld Devices - integrated in Mobile Server
Scout MTS - no longer supported
Oracle8 Navigator - no longer available. Navigator functionality has been implemented in either Control Center or Packaging Wizard

  • HELP:Can't connect to Consolidator from Palm

I can't seem to connect from my Palm IIIx device to the Oracle iConnect consolidator on my server. I've already installed RAS server on my NT server and Hotsync. I set up a connection on the Palm for remote access and have checked the Primary and Secondary DNS.
When I try to connect, I get a timeout error. Anybody know what's going wrong?
    Thanks.

I found out why network Hotsync was not working. The two machines were in different subnets and different domains.
    Anyways, I have another question.
I already have a user profile on my Palm device. Can I use this same profile for using Oracle iConnect Consolidator?
The problem is this. I already have a profile set up on my office PC. I now want to use my Palm to connect to the Consolidator server which is on another machine at a different subnet address. I want to put my Palm on a cradle connected to another computer in the lab (same subnet as the Consolidator server). Can this be done?
I am thinking not because on my Palm my user profile is associated with my machine.
When I use Consolidator with Hotsync, it wants to hotsync with my machine and not with the Consolidator server. I think the only way to do this, is to hard reset my Palm (erasing all my data and apps), and then installing Hotsync and performing a local Hotsync at the Consolidator server.
Then, I can be able to do a network Hotsync through Consolidator from my other machine in the lab and it will work.
Is this correct? Does this make sense?

I am trying to get the Network Hotsync working so I can connect to my Consolidator server. However, I am running into problems and it doesn't work. I've followed everything in the document for Network Hotsync from Palm. The Palm OS is 3.3 and the Palm Desktop is 3.0.1 which includes the Network Hotsync. So, I know I have the network Hotsync software, and don't have to download it (this is for lower versions of the Palm Desktop and Palm Pilot, Palm III devices). My Palm device is a Palm IIIx.
I've configured the network Hotsync on both ends (the RAS server where the Palm connects and the Consolidator server on the network). When I hit the Hotsync button, it tries to do a local hotsync which doesn't work. But I have the connection to be modem and not Local, so what the heck is going on? The Palm document said all you have to do is insert the Palm into the cradle of the foreign computer (in this case my RAS server) and it will work. But it doesn't. Why???

When i am going to create new Oracle Lite Database in the Oracle8 Navigator at that time in the New Oracle Lite Database Properties dialog box it can not display the Consolidator Support check box.
Documentation says Consolidator Support check box must be true for creating a new database for Palm platform.
How can i get this check box?
Is this CheckBox is necessary for creating a Datapase for Palm Platform?
Documentation also says after creating the New database The database contains the
Consolidator folder, which includes the folders: Client, Publication, and Sequence.

Maybe I should question the need to access a local database on the client PC.
But anyway, the normal way to obtain security clearance is to use a signed applet.
Another possibility is to grant the applet all permissions by modifying the security policy file of each client to grant your applet 'all permissions'. Note that in this case you must have access to each and every client PC or ask them to do so before running the applet.Database access at client's machine is ridiculous. I doubt this is what OP wants.
@OP: request you to post the original security issue and the environment details.

I'm not sure why you're getting that
    particular exception. I don't think I've
    experienced that one.
As to permissions, you need to do that on
    the SERVER database.
Using SQL*Plus, you would connect to the server
database using the username for the tables
    and then use GRANT ALTER...
Using Oracle Navigator, click on the Database
Connections folder, and then create a
connection to the database. After creating
the connection, connect to the database. Find
the table, right-click on the table and
select properties from the menu. On the
properties dialog, click the Object Privileges
    tab and set the privileges.
