Oracle8 on Win98

Because of some hard disk problems, I had to change my platform Win95 to Win98. After a new installation of Oracle8 (V8.0.4.0.0) I can't get connected to my remote database.
Before getting connected I get the following message
What can I do after my migration from Win95 (worked without any problem) to Win98?

have you a reply to this question?

  • Personal Oracle8i Installation on Win98

I just installed Personal Oracle8i for Win98. Installation works fine, database was created, net8 was configured. After rebooting my pc, I tried starting the database. An error message "Can not mount database" appears.
I also tried installing it to another pc. But this time, the database was not created. I tried creating the database using the Database Configuration Assistant but it takes so long and my pc hangs up. When I start the database, it prompted me for a password. I tried all passwords I knew(tiger, manager, oracle, change_on_install, etc), but nothing works.
Does anybody know how to fix these?

I came to this forum to find help as to why I can't get my 8i PE to startup in Win98 and then I read your post which prompted me to find out what CD I had. I have PE for NT/2000. I could have sworn I got for 98. Now I know what my problem is and how to fix it :)

  • Personal Oracle8 v803 and Oracle8i Lite v40 on Win98

Is it possible to have Personal Oracle8 and Oralce8i Lite

Ronald I don'tknow if you can run both
but at least for me converting was non\
    trivial.
I removed personal oracle on my win98 machine
by running orainst and removing every thing
I could, then renaming the orawin directory,
and running the windows registry editor
and deleting the oracle section from
    within a section callled software.
I am under the impression that O8 lite
is to replace personal oracle 8.
One thing that seems missing is

  • OUI prob JRE not found when installing Oracle8i PE on Win98 (non P4 machine)

Oracle universal installer won't run. Java Runtime Environment not found. Tried installing version 1.1.8 of JRE, but this didn't help. (note: download not CD)

Thank you for your answer. This is the developer suite, and I though this could be installed on win98. I have installed Oracle Database Personal Edition 9i, and It works fine. Now I just want to practice my lessons with forms and reports, being able to connect to my oracle personal 9i (stand alone).
Thats why I want to install the Developer Suite 10g, but if this is not for win98, can someone tellme wich version of developer suite could I install in order to practice oracle forms and reports and eventually all the other applications of the suite?

  • Problems with TNSLSNR on Win98 Oracle8i Personal Ed.

When I start up my tnslsnr.exe on port 152 it remains open for 4-5 seconds and shuts down. It had been working and the tnsnames.ora was correct. Is there a bug in this or am I missing something. It works well a number of weeks and then quits all of a sudden. My solution at this point is to reinstall Personal Oracle 8i. Could someone give me some ideas??

I realized that my PKZIP Extract options were not correct.
One MUST enable USE FOLDER NAMES otherwise it puts all files in one directory, and cannot find them.

  • Oracle8i Release 2 (8.1.6) on Mandrake Linux 7.1

I am trying to install Oracle8i R2 on Linux Mandrake. I've got the Oracle8i EE CD. I have followed the pre-installation steps of creating the groups, user and updating the .bash_profile file for "oracle" user with all the env. variables. After, I execute runInstaller from the CD, I get the Universal Installer Welcome screen. Mouse clicks on About Oracle and Remove Installed products work fine and show message/dialog boxes. But Mouse clicks on the Help, Exit, Installed Products AND "NEXT" button have no effect. The screen remain their without taking to the next step of installation !!!
I have to exit the Universal installer using the Closing icon on the Window (top right corner).
Also, I tried "ps -ef" on the prompt after execting runInstaller. It shows around 8-10 process running under installer. Is there any known bug/issue for installter working on Mandrake linux ?
    Any help/comments/assistance....?
    Thanks and advance.

  • Personal Oracle8 and Developer6 ?

I've installed Personal Oracle 8.0.3 on my Win98 computer. I
tried to install also Developer6 (required support files 8.0.5c),
but instalation was interrupted because of version conflict
between support files of Dev6 and Personal Oracle8 (I was
installing in one ORACLE_HOME). If I had ignored warning and
continued with instalation of Dev6, I was not able to start
Oracle database after succesfull installation of Dev6. I've got
message: "The Oracle80.exe file is linked to missing export
    NZ80.dll:nztpfvec".
I tried to copy NZ80.dll from Oracle distribution to my
Oracle_Home, but database still was not operational.
Is possible to install these products to diffrent Oracle_homes?
    Could anyone help me ?

    Hi there,
You cannot have Oracle8 and Dev6.0 in the same Oracle home.
Install Dev6.0 in a different Oracle home.
I guess it should solve your problem.

    Hi all,
I am having some real difficulty in connecting a Win98 client running oci-jdbc driver to a Oracle 8i server.
