Oracle8 pl/sql programmin by scott urman, oracle press book enough???

hi everybody, i have oracle8 pl/sql programmin by scott urman, oracle press book, which covers releases 7 through 8. is this book enough for me to prepare for the exam "introduction to oracle 1z0-001". please give your views. thanks..

I recommend you check the exact objetives here: http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_org_id=1000255&lang=ESA&p_exam_id=1Z0_001 and compare them with the objetives describe in the book. Currently I have 10 certifies and I have done the same always. I check the objetives in the Oracle web site and I study across Oracle Documentation. That is one of the best way to get a strong prepartion and it is shippper.

  • Oracle Press book gives incorrect information about when you are certiifed

SQL Certified Expert Exam Gudie: ISBN: 978-0-07-161421-4
    Page: 12
... and I left (the testing center) a happy and Certified SQL Expert.
    THIS IS WRONG.
When you leave the exam you receive a score report indicating you have passed the exam (I beleive subject to review).
    BUT
You are not certified until either:
    - (1) you receive a success kit from Oracle or
    - (2) it is shown on the Oracle Certview Database.
The distinction is really important as until that time you have agreed not to represent yourself as certified.
This should have read something like .....
... and I left (the testing center) happy knowing that in a few weeks time my certification success should be confirmed in the Oracle Certview Database and my Certification success kits should arrive in a few weeks.
I am forever screaming at people on the Oracle Forums not to represent themselves as certified until they get a success kit or see it on Certview and an Oracle Press book goes against this!!!!!!
    =:-O
I know this is possibly apparent nit-picking in the case of this certification ... but it isn't. I've never heard of it happening, but the exam score can be revised until its confirmed (not that I've ever seen this happen ... and wold be almost impossible except for cheating). For instance the exam delivery software/configuration could glitch and deliver 1z0-051 questions instead of 1z0-047 invalidating ones result.  I know we all know this is impossible but would you be prepared to stake all your worldly goods that this has never happened and will never happen.
    .................................

They should write a big "THIS IS A DRAMATIZATION" around it!
    LOL!

  • Discount on Oracle Press Books

Hello, I'm a newly certified OCP. I am attempting to purchase a book but when I click the link the regular book price shows up. At no point am I asked for a special number or something, (which I don't have any way), it just proceeds to the checkout with the regular price. Can someone shed some light on this? Thanks a million.

Are you sure that there is supposed to be a discount? I don't remember that being a benefit when I got my OCP...

  • Which book topics to follow for exam 1Z0-007? Sybex or Oracle press?

Hi, I am studying following both books for exam 1Z0-007 but sybex book by Chip Dawes covers more topics then oracle book. I am wondering if i still need to study those topics in sybex book which are not covered in oracle press book? For example DML Locks have been discussed in detail in sybex book as compare to oracle book and few topics are missing in oracle press and don't know if there will be any question in the exam from those topics?
    1) OCP Introduction to Oracle9i: SQL Exam Guide by Jason Couchman
    2) OCA/OCP: Introduction to Oracle9i SQL Study Guide by Chip Dawes, Biju Thomas
Can anyone pls advise? Also i like to know if SelfTest software covers same questions which are in sybex and oracke press book? Because SelfTest software has same questions for microsoft exams which are already in the cd of microsoft official press books.
    Thanks

The proper method is to look at the exam topics on [http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_org_id=1001&lang=US&p_exam_id=1Z0_007] which is authorative.
either the Sybex or Oracle Press book is authorative, and sometimes exam changes after these are printed (with revision from 9iR1 to9iR2 for example).
In general you should probably have enough material in the two books given for this exam. Its probably cheaper to take the exam itself rather than buy additional Selftest questions. Your time may well be better spent practicing the things you have trouble with. Also be aware these books can have errors. And learn whichever is in either book even if it isnt examined. Its good for you!

  • Oracle 11g SQL signon   - The scott/tiger routine...

    I just installed Oracle 11g.
First, what is the ID/PW into SQL - it used to be scott/tiger. I changed it to what I wanted on install. However, when I logon and type scott then tiger its says
account locked out. I tried scott and my own "created pw". It still didn't let me in. Is there an "easy" fix?
I have to get this aspect going to get to first base. How do I get around this or FIX it????

By default, most of the demo accounts are created but locked so that they are not security holes if they are inadvertently included in a production install. To unlock scott
    - Connect as SYS, i.e. from the command line (DOS prompt in Windows)
sqlplus / as sysdba- Unlock the account
SQL> ALTER USER scott ACCOUNT UNLOCK;Now, you should be able to log in as SCOTT. If you want to log in as HR, OE, or any of the other demo accounts, you'd repeat the procedure.

If i use cs.registerOutParameter(4, Types.ARRAY, "SCHEMA_OWNER_NAME.ISSUESECTION_LIST"); Then i wont be getting the error.
COULD ANYONE LET ME KNOW THE WORK AROUND OTHER THAN THE ABOVE SOLUTION LIKE ADDING THE OWNER SCHEMA NAME WITH THE USER DEFINED COLLECTION TYPE.

    There couold be two reasons:
    1) it depends how u have defined type. if ISSUESECTION_LIST is defined in type SCHEMA_OWNER, then you have to call this ways only 'SCHEMA_OWNER_NAME.ISSUESECTION_LIST'
    2) You might have defined using schema_owner_name like scott.<TYPE_NAME>. if its so, then drop it and again define type without using schema owner.
For detail help post your type declaration.

Why not mention that link? You said you wanted help with your problem and my reply at that link fully explains your problem and what you have to do to solve it. There are also links to two more threads that have more info about your issue.
This is a sql developer issue, so you should repost it in the sql developer forum.
    https://forums.oracle.com/community/developer/english/development_tools/application_development_in_pl_sql/sql_developer_(not_for_general_sql_plsql_questions)
You can use a BASIC connnection in sql developer instead of the TNS connection you are trying to use. Those links explain how to do that.

  • Oracle8i to SQL Server Connectivity Errors

I am having following error messages while setting up the ODBC connectivity between Oracle8i and SQL Server 7. I want to access SQL Server 7 tables from within Oracle8i. I have followed all the instruction of Oracle Generic Connectity document and have tested ODBC connection with ODBCPING as well as with TNSPING, these shows correct connectivity. I have also created Database Link within Oracle8i for SQL Server. After that when I access the SQL Server table from within Oracle I get the following error message.

If it is not possible by wrap in oracle 10g R2,
Please, let me suggest, how i will be able to 100% protect PL/SQL code in Oracle Database 10g R2.
Because, I have lot of functions, procedures & package's in my project.
Which is running in field filed.
So, i have needed to protect 100%.
Also, will i convert to al functions, procedures & package's to .pll file ?
And .pll file to .plx file?
Is it possible to convert .plx file to .pll file ?
Please, let know any better solutions in this case....
    Regards
    Mehedi

    Hello,
No, wrapping is not a 100% secure method. It could prevent your code from amateurs, but not from professional hackers. Look at the article http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/appdev.111/b28370/wrap.htm#BEHGBJAA
It says: "•Wrapping is not a secure method for hiding passwords or table names.
Wrapping a PL/SQL unit prevents most users from examining the source code, but might not stop all of them."

As you have been advised in many of your posts, go study the documentation for whichever specific topic you are interested in.
For me to answer your questions, I would need to go get that documentation.
Then I would need to read that documentation.
Then I would need to write a forum post that interprets what I think I learned from that documentation.
It is so very much faster if YOU go do that instead of posting to a forum and expecting others to do it. You will remember what you study for a lot longer time if you teach yourself.
