Oracle8i to Oracle9i Upgrade Docs

Hi there,
Please can someone direct me to a place I can download an upgrade manual for Oracle 8i to 9i Release 2 on Windows. I have a client that is upgrading their Peoplesoft Enterprise One (JDEdwards) implementation to PeopleSoft Enterprise One 8.11 and we need to upgrade the Database first. Unfortunately PeopleSoft Enterprise One does not seem to support Oracle 10g yet.

Hi,
You have two ways to migrate from 8i to 9iR2. It's not very difficult to make this upgrade. Less than 0,5 day to upgrade a database...
Export 8i/import 9i : metalink note 132904.1 - Compatibility Matrix for Export & Import Between Different Oracle Versions
Manual upgrade : metalink note 159657.1 - Complete Upgrade Checklist for Manual Upgrades from 8.X / 9.0.1 to Oracle9i
You have too the upgrade assistant, but I don't like this one.
Hope this help you.
Nicolas.

    Hi Sree,
    thanks alot for your help!
    I was looking for Oracle 9i Thin driver, but could not find any!
    The only I could find was Oracle 9i thin JDBC driver for Mac OS X.
    and thanks again for your help.

    Hi John,
    WebLogic jDriver for Oracle 9i is not available for WLS5.1. Its only
    available for WLS6.1SP2 and above.
    I suggest you use the Oracle thin driver from Oracle to connect to the
    9i
    database.
    when you download and install the 9i thin driver, the connection pool
    can be
    configured as,
    weblogic.jdbc.connectionPool.O9iPool=\
    url=jdbc:oracle:thin:@9imachinename:port:SID,\
    driver=oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver,\
    loginDelaySecs=1,\
    initialCapacity=5,\
    maxCapacity=12,\
    capacityIncrement=2,\
    allowShrinking=true,\
    shrinkPeriodMins=15,\
    refreshMinutes=12,\
    props=user=o9iusr;password=o9ipwd;weblogic.oci.min_bind_size=660
    You cannot use two different OCI drivers at the same time to create
    Connection pools in a single server.

    Hi,
    I dont know exactly what driver we use, but I know that the same driver
    is
    in
    use for bothe 8i and 9i. And I know that the driver is old, (from 2000).
    The behavior is that connection duo the 9i are rollin back sometimes,
    about
    30%
    of all transactions are rolling back.
    Thats why I ve been told to use newer drivers (9i drivers).
    So, yes, I see exceptions, roll back exceptions of the transactionsthat
    are
    trying
    to connect to the database pool.
    But I wonder how to do that, and how can I see exactly what driver
    we
    use
    now?
    Please help me!!!!

    Hi
    Reports is good for standard reports which are used often (daily or weekly) and 'never' change.
    Disco good for ad-hoc reporting, analyzing.

    Hello!
    This is my first question in a forum, therefore sorry for mistakes.
    We perform a systemcopy from Oracle8 to Oracle9. If we use a Offline-Backup there is no problem. After the restore we migrate the databse to Oracle9 and everything is ok
    Now we try to use a Online-Backup for this. The restore is no problem but the recovery of the database end with following error:

  • XA : Oracle8 and Oracle9

    I using Tuxedo8.0 ..and I need to use XA with both Oracle8 and Oracle9...
    This time is using only Oracle8, Two-Phase commit, and next year we have to join
    with Oracle9.
    Then I would like to know Can I use XA across Oracle8 and Oracle9...
    What is RM file for Oracle9?
    Regards,
    Yos

    Hello Yos,
    XA transactions can span multiple RDBMSes... There may be limitations/problems
    as every RDBMS has a different implementation and hence do not work the same way.
    The base rule is: You can definitely have a single XA transaction across Oracle,
    Informix and DB2. So, your scenario of XA transactions across Oracle 8 and 9 databases
    should work..
    For RM file entry, please refer Oracle/Tuxedo documentations. Oracle 8.x RM file
    entry may also work fine with Oracle 9.x. Just give it a try.

  • Oracle8 and oracle9i on same server?

    Hello Ora-GURUs,
    I have Oracle8 Release 8.0.4.0.0 - Production database running on windows2000 server. I want to install Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.1.0 - Production database on the same server. Is it possible to have both versions running on the same server? if yes then how (just brief)?
    Thanks in advance...

    A few concerns
    1) Oracle 8.0.4 was never supported on Windows 2000.
    2) Oracle 8.0.4 was not multi-home compatible, so there is no guarantee that installing a new database version won't affect your existing install.
    3) Oracle 8.0.4 was desupported about 6 and a half years ago and wasn't even the terminal patchset for the 8.0.x line. Why are you using such an ancient version of the database?
    I would be grateful that a production database was even running on an operating system it was never designed for or tested on and wouldn't attempt to install anything else. I would seriously investigate ways to upgrade the 8.0.4 database at least to 8.0.6 but realistically to something that is still supported like 9.2 or even 10.2.

  • Oracle 8.1.5 to oracle8.1.6 upgradation

    Hi
    I am working paralelly on both Solaris2.7 and win NT4.0
    The details are as follows
    1. Liscenced versions of Oracle8.1.5 have been installed on both the systems
    In order to upgrade I tried searching for the script u0801050.sql in both the systems under ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin, but it was not available
    I solved this as follows on Win NT:
    1. Installed oracle8.1.6 on NT in the same HOME .
    2. The script was present in after this re-install.
    3. I used the script(Should I have done this?)
    But there is a problem with Java Upgradation now.
    I started the database in the RESTRICT mode

  • Database link from Oracle8i to Oracle9i

    Hi,
    I am trying to create a database link from an oracle 8i database to connect to an oracle 9i database ... When testing the connection , I always receive an error "The Database link is not active"
    Notes
    1- Creating a database link that connects from the same 8i database to another 8i database succeeds. This gave me the impression that it is a compatibility problem but I am not sure.
    2- I changed the initialization parameter
    global_names = falseand restarted the Oracle database
    3- the 2 databases are on the same domain
    Did anyone pass through this problem before ??
    thanks

    Well, I was testing the database link via DBA studio and there was no ora error associated with the message.
    A friend helped me to identify and sove the problem. here is what he did.
    Lets assume that the oracle8i database called Ora8i
    and the oracle9i database called Ora9i
    and that the network domain name is OraTest.com
    When i select * from global_name; on both databases
    Ora8i database return ==> ora8i
    Ora9i database return ==> Ora9i.us.oracle.com
    We then execute the following statement on Ora9i database
    alter database rename global_name to Ora9i.OraTest.com;
    Testing the database link after that went fine.
    Thanks

  • Migration--Bitmap to Jpeg from Oracle8 to Oracle9i

    I'm having few thousand bitmap photos stored in Oracle8 database in a Long Raw column. It's taking lot of space.
    I'm planning to migrate to Oracle9i. Please advise how to convert these few thousand photos from bitmap to Jpeg format in Oracle9i database.

    How are you going to store the images in 9i?
    My hunch is that the only way that you could convert from BMP to JPEG inside the database would be to have the data stored as interMedia image objects. I don't know for sure whether interMedia can do that conversion, but that's the only Oracle technology I can think of that could (well, unless you want to write Java or PL/SQL code that does the conversion).

  • Oracle8i or Oracle9i Client: remote Install

    Hello,
    I work on intranet and I install Oracle Client remotely with VNC, executing the setup file shared in a network drive. From about a month I can't install software anymore because the setup don't start (I suppose a microsoft patch block the remote code execution). So i decide to install oracle client 8i or 9i from the web.
    I'd like to know which minimum directories i have to put on the target pc to run (there) the oracle universal installer: consider that the source path is the http address of the web server containing the installation components.
    Thank you very much

    OK I figured this error out...I forgot that XFree86 is not installed on the remote machine!
