Oracle8i8.1.7 installation onto Dell 8100 P4 1.5GHz

I am having trouble in the installation of the 8i to my system. My computer is Dell 8100
Pentium 4 1.5GHz. Whenever I insert the Oracle 8i to my dvd-rom drive to install that, the installation doesn't go well. At first, it shows autorun screen where I choose to install the 8i. Then the autorun screen disappears shortly, and for a very short period, the cdrom drive seems to be running by indicating the green light, but then it stops. No further installation procedure occurs any more. i don't know what the problem is. Since the other softwares are always installed well without any problem. Only this Oracle8i8.1.6 or 8.1.7 causes this kind of problem. Currently I just installed Oracle8 8.0.5 to my system. Very weirdly, the old version of Oracle was installed with no problem. But I really need to install O8i8.1.7 to my system. I'd like to know whetehr there is any other persons experiencing the same problem like me.

Hi, Im new to this oracle world, we just got a Dell 8100 1.3GHZ P4 machine running win 98 SE. I tried to intall the Oracle8i Personal Edition, but allways get this error message from windows:

How can I recovery this "CONFLICT".
    Thanks very much !!!
    Jack

AFAIK, this is a warning and can be ignored. But on dell
systems there a lot of other problems that can prevent
a successful solaris 8 installation (dell keyboard problems,
problems with a panic when the system include a 3com
    3c905c NIC, ACPI problems, ...).

Does it crash/reboot when you continue?
Try to boot from the "Software 1 of 2" CDROM and at the
"1 interactive or 2 custom jumpstart" prompt type "b kadb -v"
instead of "1" or "2". In case it crashes while booting the
solaris kernel from cdrom, this should give some usable

  • I want to completely reinstall mac os 7.5 onto my 8100/110

I'm trying to reinstall mac os 7.5.3 from the 19 part files from apple, but that doesn't wipe all the old stuff off the hard drive. I'd like to start it fresh. Anyone konw how to do this, step by step?

OK, that 8.1 disk tools disk did the job, thanks. For anyone who is interested, I'll write what i did to get OS 7.5.3 on my 8100/110.
Ok, first I used the disk tools floppy from os 8.1, swaped out one of the programs on the main directory for HD SC and booted from that. I initialized the hard drive, then copied the system folder from that floppy onto the hard drive.
Then i rebooted, loaded from the hard drive, and put the PPC enabler 1.1.1 into a folder in the hard drive (I used the name "7.5.3", origional, eh?) Then i put in the 7.5 network access disk. I copied that into "7.5.3". Then i rebooted off the disk tools disk again.
Now, booted from the floppy, i deleted the disk tools system folder from the hard drive, then moved the 7.5 NAD (network access disk) system folder to main directory of the hard drive with the enabler inside it. I "blessed" it and reboted.
Now i have essentially a 7.5 NAD floppy on the hard drive. I connected my 8100 to my 7300/180 via their printer ports, and copied the 19 parts of the installer over to the 8100 from the 7300. When that was done i booted from the disk tools disk again, deleted the system folder from the hard drive, leaving only the folder holding the 7.5.3 instalation, which i proceded to run. Everything went well and my next step is the 7.5.5 upgrade, which should be no problem. Thanks for the help again!

  • Problem with Installation on DELL Poweredge with Hardware RAID 1

    Hello Arch LInux community,
I am a newbee with good linux knowledge of working on linux but not much of systems administration. I am very much interested to install Arch Linux on my new desktop which is a Dell poweredge having hardware RAID 1(PERC .... controller). It has windows 7 OS on its first partition.
I saw on the controller's BIOS menu that there are 2 1tb hard drives with something like --:--:00 and --:--:01 labels. And they were partitioned into two logical volumes which are visible once I boot into Arch linux live CD as, /dev/sda (about 250GB, and has windows OS on it) and /dev/sdb (about 700GB).
Firstly, I am confused with the hard disk labels: even though they are logical partitions (i.e: combined by RAID 1, they are seen as /dev/sda and /dev/sdb). In the arch linux Beginner's wiki, there is some description on configuring for RAID, which included mdadm or mdadm_udev module specification. I did include these modules, and followed the installatin instructions carefully. I was trying to install on /dev/sdb, with the following partitioning:
    Sector map of partitions on /dev/sdb  : 1542848512 : 735.7 GiB
    Disk identifier (GUID) : 967BF308-6E5E-43AD-AB2E-94EB975C3603
First usable sector = 34 Last usable sector  = 1542848478
Total  free space is 2023 sectors
Number        Start    End                  Size             Code    Name
                      34    2047                     FREE
    1               2048    2099199        1024.0 MiB    EF00            EFI System
    2          2099200    2103295         2.0 MiB    EF02      BIOS boot partition
    3          2103296    2615295         250.0 MiB    8300      Linux filesystem
    4          2615296    212330495         100.0 GiB    8300     Linux filesystem
    5       212330496    317188095      50.0 GiB    8300     Linux filesystem
    6       317188096    1541924863    584.0 GiB    8300            Linux filesystem
         1541924864     1542848478                         FREE
The instruction on the Beginner's wiki is somewhat difficult to understand for beginners. Especially I wasn't sure whether to make EFI System partition and BIOS boot partition or just EFI system partition. So I made both as per the instructions.
Is using UEFI compulsory, on UEFI based systems?
A little bit more sub-headings or division of instructions, in the Beginner's wiki,  based on the usage scenarios can be very beneficial for newbees like me.
I am finally getting the following error when I select the Arch Linux from the GRUB menu. Why it can't find the device?  I shall wait for your initial responses, and will give more specifics of my installation to find out any wrong step that I may have made.
[ 0.748399] megasas: INIT adapter done
ERROR: device 'UUID=40e603e9-7285-4ec8-8a06-a579358a52a0' not found. Skipping fsck
ERROR: Unable to find root device 'UUID=40e603e9-7285-4ec8-8a06-a579358a52a0' .
You are being dropped to a recovery shell
Type 'exit' to try and continue booting
Sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
    [rootfs /]#

Well, you can see your RAID partitions and you're getting GRUB to load, and you are even being dropped to the recovery shell which means that the /boot partition is being found and is accessible. All vary, vary good things.
I would boot into the Arch live CD/USB again. Then check the UUID of the / Root partition. To do this I just check the log listing of /dev/disk/by-uuid
    ls -l /dev/disk/by-uuid
Hopefully the UUID for the /root partition in the /boot/grub/grub.cfg is incorrect, and all you need to do is change it from 'UUID=40e603e9-7285-4ec8-8a06-a579358a52a0' to the correct UUID.
If the UUID is correct... then maybe the correct driver module is not complied into the initramfs. You could try adding that mdadm to the MODULES= list in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf then rebuild the initramfs again.
    mkinitcpio -p linux
Hum..., the whole /dev/sda and /dev/sdb.... hum, You know... Maybe you need to change the line in /boot/grub/grub.cfg
    set root='hd1,msdos1'
The hd1 is the equivalent to /dev/sda and the msdos1 is the equivalent of the First Partition i.e. /dev/sda1.. (note this is my disk yours may correctly have different numbers and not be a msdos partition)... owe wait... hum, you know I am fairly sure that like is really the root disk where the /boot partition is and has no relation to the / Root partition... Someone clear that up please.... It is hard for me to recall and I have my / Root parition encrypted, so It is hard for me to make heads or tails of that one right now, but that could be the problem too i.e. try changing hd1 to hd2 or hd0 or something.
Owe, and it may be faster if you just make temporary corrections to the GRUB menu by hitting the "e" key on the menu entry you want to change then hit.. I think F10 to boot the modified entry. That way you don't need to keep booting into the Live CD/USB

  • Installation on Dell PowerApp 100 - No Disks

I am receiving the following error while attempting to install Solaris 8 on my Dell PowerApp 100.
"No Disks meet the criteria in the Solaris installer documentation found."
The server is listed in the Hardware Compatibility document as having Level 1 support.
I have tried using both the diskette and the CD-ROM to boot and install and receive the same message. I have also downloaded the latest Device Configuration Assistant (10/01) and used to to boot.
The following device is found during the device search:
    Adaptec 29160/N/LP Ultra160 SCSI HBA
The following drive is listed as a potential boot source during installation:
    Target 0:Quantum Atlas V 9 WLS 0201 on Adaptec 29160/N/LP Ultra160 SCSI HBA in PCL Slot 2
It would seem that since the drive is listed as a potential boot source that the installer is able to see the drive, so I'm getting a little miffed as to why it can see it to install.
Thanks for any suggestions you can provide.

    Jacob,
I'm seeing the same issue. Have you received a reply from anyone? If so, would you share?

  • Windows Vista Installation Hangs on "Completing Installation" on Dell Inspiron 1720

I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 that I am working on. The original problem with this computer was that it was accidently shut off during a Windows Update. The computer will only load to a black screen with a white movable cursor.
Unable to resolve that issue, I decided to purchase a replacement hard drive (WD Scorpio Black 320GB -- Model # WD3200KTRTL) and proceed to do a full install of Windows Vista using the Dell Reinstallation Window Vista Home Premium 32BIT disc that came with
    the computer.
Towards the very end of the installation, the system hangs on the "Completing Installation" section. I decided to leave the computer turned on over night just in case there were things that were still loading. This was not the case and the next morning I
    turned off the computer.
With the new hard drive installed and with Windows Vista installed (minus the "Completing Installation hanging...) I am faced with the same problem as before when I had the existing hard drive installed.
Can anyone help me solve this issue? Ideally, I'd like to use the existing hard drive instead of the new one, simply because there is a lot of data and problems on the other drive.

How could it be that I can't reinstall Vista after replacing the hard drive in my Inspiron 1720 when I have the original DVD from Dell, to be used for just that purpose?  Well, the answer was exactly what Jaco suggested.  After hours of struggling
with this, and about at the stage where a new computer made more sense that continuing to try to get this 6 year old one running again, changing the AHCI setting allowed the Vista installer to get over it's CRCDISK.SYS hangup.  A 30 second fix, but finding
it took hours.  Sigh...Thank you for posting this, Jaco.

  • Downloaded exe file onto Dell PC ends up being corrupt

After several downloads we are giving up (well, almost). First, it takes a long time to download the file. Then, once downloaded it won't run because it gives us the "corrupt" message.

You really really do need to read the Windows 7 FAQ the Boot Camp 3.0 Installation and Setup guide for 10.6  and the Boot Camp 3.0 MacOS 10.6 FAQ  a couple of times to really get to know the whole picture.
"Boot Camp" is just a basic set of WINDOWS drivers to run Apple hardware. You install Window first, via BCAssistant to start it, then after it finish's the install and restarts into Windows then you insert the "whatever you made disk" with the Boot Camp drivers on it, it should then give you an installer window, just like on the Mac side, if you want to "Run" it or "Open as a file". (Run it)
The Apple Software Updater updates ALL the Apple files including BootCamp Assistant on the Mac, it updates the Boot Camp Assistant to look for the latest drivers to use when it gives you the option to download the files onto whatever you want to use to download onto.
BTAssistant to partition the drive, then it will boot off the Windows installer, there is no more Mac control, it's ALL Windows now, have Windows format it the way you want, then it will finish by restarting into Windows, then you install the drivers while booted in Windows.
You need a wired mouse AND keyboard just like the instructions said. If you have the earlier Magic Mouse then they suggest you plug it into the keyboard instead of the computer.
If you partitioned like the instructions said, via Boot Camp Assistant, you can install Windows anytime you want, it won't forget it's there. YOU just have to remember where it is.
If you do have problems with the partition then at the bottom of the instructions it tells you how to restore the partition back to normal then you can start over.

  • Acrobate 8 re-installation onto new computer

I have acrobate 8 professional installed in my computer. I am not sure anymore where my activation code/serial number or other that was sent to me when I first downloaded the program.
I am purchasing a new computer and would like to re-install onto the new computer. Can anybody help with a preceedure to follow?
    Regards
    Ferrara

For a loss of the SN, you will have to contact Adobe. As long as you registered the product, they should be able to help. Be aware that AA 8 is not compatible with most newer systems, particularly 64-bit windows systems. You may be successful with an install, but Adobe does not support such installations and you might expect problems at times. The updates are typically critical with such installations. I have not heard about success with Win 8 and AA 8 yet. There are similar problems with the MAC, but I don't know enough to comment on those.
As for Creative Suite, there are special installation issues there and you should consult the CS forum. The issues for Acrobat within CS are different from the stand-alone issues on installation and unfortunately I can never remember the different combinations that are needed for CS..

  • Photoshop v8 installation onto Windows 7 invalid personalization issue

I have a CS Premium Suite and have recently installed it onto my Windows 7 notebook. Unfortunately, when I open Photoshop it comes up with the error:
'Could not complete your request because of missing or invalid personalization informationi'. All other applications in the suite load ok with the serial number displayed on the splash screen. It was a clean install. I note that the serial number is not displayed on the Photoshop splash screen when it starts up.
I did some testing and grabbed a 'fake' serial number to install photoshop 8 directly from the cd rather than via the suite install and it loads fine. However, I couldn't keep it as the serial number was illegal and therefore, wouldn't activate. The point is, the software will work fine on my Windows 7.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

  • Downloading App store purchased Mountain Lion installer onto Mac with preinstalled OS X

I need to reinstall Mountain Lion on my Mac Book Pro. I purchased ML on the app store but need to create a bootable USB key. The only Mac I have available to do this is my girlfriend's new MacBook Air.  This has a preinstalled version of Mountain Lion on it already. I know that I cannot re-use her preinstalled version of ML on my MBP but I would like to use her notebook to download the installer from my app store account.  When I try to do this, however, I get an error message saying that Mountain Lion is not compatible with her computer.  There appears to be no way to access a legitimately purchased app store version of ML on a computer where another version is pre-installed.  Could this really be the case?  All troubleshooting searches come up with people trying to illegally re-use the preinstalled OS on another computer---this is not what I am trying to do! Again, I want to access my paid in full app store purchase on a preinstalled device in order to put it back on my MBP. Help!

The Mid 2013 MacBook Air comes with a special 10.8.4 version, that makes impossible the process to download the common 10.8.4 from the App Store. You won't have this problem when Apple releases OS X 10.8.5.
You can't download 10.8.4 from the MacBook Air if you are going to install it in the MacBook Pro. You have to connect it to Internet and reinstall OS X using OS X Recovery > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
