I'm following the Oracle Application Server Release 2 (10.1.2) Deployment Notes (http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/html/B25947_01/deployment_topics006.htm) for deploying an application, built in Jdeveloper 10.1.3 to AS 10.1.2. I have a question about Configuring JDeveloper to Generate Configuration Files That Are J2EE 1.3-Compliant. Do I need all the files in table 34-3? (http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/html/B25947_01/deployment_topics006.htm#CIHHBJAI)
I already have some of these files. Can I change the version of existing files or do I need new ones? How can I change the version of existing files?

OAS 4.0.8.1 was never certified on W2K and is in fact a desupported version of OAS. I would strongly suggest migrating to the just released 9i Application Server v. 9.0.2.

Starting with SAP kernel release 6.20 the parameter icm/plugin_<*> isn't
required anymore since the SMTP plugin is an intrinsic part of the SAP
Internet Communication Manager (ICMAN), so no separate library isn't
necessary and isn't shipped by SAP anymore.
See SAP Note 455140 contains more related information.

How to utilise forms installed in Oracle9i Application Server from client

Dear Friends,
I have installed Oracle 9i Application Server and Forms 5.0 Reports 3.0 in the application server. How to make use of application server so that forms installed in it available to end users, the client. What are the steps i need to do. Please explain.

Forms 5 & Reports 3 in Developer 2.1 have been desupported for a number of years now. If you haven't already figured out how to get it working on the web, download the Forms & Reports Services Standalone version of the 10g Application Server. It has Forms & Reports properly configured after the instalaltion. Just look under the Demonstrations tab of the home page and click to run either Forms or Reports on the web. You can customize your setup afterwards for your application. Of course you'll need to upgrade your application.

We have recently completed the above installation and configuration. However on certain forms we are having difficulty opening word using OLE commands.
In this release has any code changed that we need to be aware of when using OLE for client-side functions?

In reply to my own thread it seems the cause cannot be fully explained but there would seem to be some problem / incompatibility between version 17 Jacob.dll and Oracle Jinitiator 1.3.1.22. (Jacob is the 3rd Party freeware used by WebUtil to allow client OLE integration to work).

Help!!! Error while installing Oracle9i Application Server on Solaris 5.8

I have installed oracle 9i on sun solaris 5.8. it has the original seed database provided by oracle.
I am doing runinstall from disk1 directory of 9iAS and trying to install Oracle 9iApplication Server 9.0.2.0.0
after this I get a screen with Installation types where option A is selected by default (which installs J2EE, Webcache, HTTP server)when I press next it does setting up install types and displays the following message
" Your local host name database file(typically /etc/hosts) is not configured properly. This file should have and entry of the form:
<IP_ADDRESS><FULLY_QUALIFIED_HOSTNAME><ALIASES>
on solaris systems, the following files should also contain the fully qualified hostname, including the domain name:
/etc/nodename, /etc/net/ticlts/hosts, /etc/net/ticots/hosts,/etc/net/ticotsord/hosts and any files in /etc whose name begin with 'hostname'
Failure to properly configure this file may result in product runtime issues regarding proper hostname resolution."
the /etc/host file has two entries one for loopback and other hostname which are in proper format except there is no alias for loopback.
Am I doing something wrong or was the oracle installation not proper.
I logged in as 'oracle' and changed all files. Next time when i tried to login using oracle acct and tried to open a terminal the screen went black.
How do I install Oracle9iAS.

I am having a similar problem with an Oracle 8i install. It seems that the 9i install
heads off this same problem before running into it. There must be a file it sees
as not being properly updated with the host information. I checked all of the
host* files that I could find and they seem to be correct.
Please let me know when someone answers the question at both addresses

cpio is another type of compression .. like tar or zip

Reports Server and Reinstalling Oracle9i Application Server - URGENT!! Please Help

I have been experiencing problems while trying to reinstall ORACLE 9i AS - Unlike the first time I installed it, I was not prompted to enter configuration details for the origin database (host, port etc.) and portal settings!!!! etc. It doesn't even appear to install the products either. (I have uninstalled the previous installation prior to attempting reinstallation.
- If anybody has any ideas please explain in detail what to do.

document 146468.1 specifies how to upgrade to latest realese of 9i AS , but i want ot upgrade it to 10gYou cannot upgrade your Oracle 9iAS to Oracle AS10g, you can only upgrade it to 9iAS (1.0.2.2.2). For more details, refer to Note: 186981.1 (What versions of Oracle9i Application Server Release 1 can be used with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i) and (Can an existing Release 11i application server be upgraded to Oracle Application Server 10g?)
If you want to have Oracle Applications Server 10g, you need to install it in a NEW ORACLE_HOME (Refer to Note: 233436.1 for more details).
i am still confused for my AS version , how can i clarify that To determine the version, issue:
UNIX: $ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/bin/httpd -version
Windows: %ORACLE_HOME%\Apache\Apache\apache.exe -version
main components which i am using with my current AS are forms and reports serverOracle Developer 6i (Forms and Respports) are NOT part of Oracle Applications Server installation, it is installed under 8.0.6 ORACLE_HOME.

9i Application Server and Enterprise Edition

I recently installed Oracle9i Application Server (1.0.2.0.1) on our Sun Solaris (8) system. All is good except for the fact that our legacy application cannot "talk" to our new 9i database because of the LONG vs CLOB datatype issues. We are in the process of writing conversion scripts and wanted to take advantage of the ALTER TABLE statement which will do the conversion for us (new for 9i). However, this statement does not work with what I have installed. My question is, do I need the Enterprise version (Release 2) of 9i to make good use of the ALTER statement and, if so, is this an upgrade to what I have or a new install?

You need to pre-start the OC4J listener. There's no client server Oracle9i Forms, so you need an HTTP listener to run from the Builder.
Go to the icons where you started the Forms Builder, in your Start Menu, and there should be an icon called "Start OC4J Instance".
