Oracle9i client installation steps(windows'xp)
Hi,
i am installing oracle9i client in my Personal computer.when i am installing it is asking service name and hostname. In that what i have to mention and SID name also, please send me some installation steps..environment is windows'xp(40GB Hard disk). In c:\ freespace iss 5 GB. It is enough to install the oralce9i ..
just curious.
did install Oracle9i database or Oracle9i client?
Oracle9i database is the database server you can connect to,
while Oracle9i client is the client to connect to remote database
if it's only client you should to know the instance name and
the server name where the database reside, ask you DBA maybe?

Client installation on Windows x64
Hi,
We have a server running Windows 2003 Server x32, with Oracle version 10.2.0.1.0.
We have a terminal server running the 10.1.0.2.0 client, which connects to it perfectly.
We have built a new Windows Terminal server, running Windows x64. We are having some issues getting the client to work. Firstly, we installed from win32_11Gr1_client. The connection worked fine, but when we ran the third party app that we utilise, it continually gave us connection issues, and the third aprty advised we needed the 64 bit edition of the client.
We installed that, but couldn't get a connection at all. The app uses a Windows ODBC connection, and the x64 client only let us create 64 bit ODBC connections that our 32 bit application can't utilise.
At that point, we were asked to install the 32 bit client. Using the 10.2.0.1 x32 client install, the application fails to connect at all, using the same (we copied the file) tnsnames.ora, which I'm guessing comes down to some difference in the ODBC package, as I'm aware the clients are supposed to be cross version compatible. I CAN connect from SQLPLUS, but the app just says "connection failed".
Any of the following bits of advice would assist with our problem:
- How can we install the x64 client, and create ODBC connections that an x32 app can utilise?
- Why doesn't the 10.2.0.1 client (same version as the server) appear to want to talk to the server?
The vendor is unfortunately of a position that we are effectively on our own, so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.Hi
herewith some answer that migth help you.

Hi All,
Can some one please share the information , step by step guide to install SCCM 2007 Sp2 client installation on windows server 2012 R2 machine. IF step by step guide is there this would be really helpful.
Regards,You have to install update http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2861663 to your SCCM server to adds support for Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2.
Other then that should be the same as other client (Push\Logon Script\GPO etc.)

Cisco VPN Client installation freezes on Windows 7
Hello,
I am in need of some help installing the Cisco VPN Client on a Windows 7 workstation.
Here are some details:
Cisco VPN Client Version: 5.0.07.0410
Operation System: Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise, 32-bit, version 6.1, build 7600
PC Hardware: IBM Thinkpad T42, Type 2373-7WE
Issue Description:
I attempted to install the Cisco VPN Client on the computer with the local administrator account in Windows 7. The computer was given a clean installation of Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise (Existing HDD partitions were deleted and formatted). After the OS installation, I installed the network driver via Windows Update, and proceeded to run the installation for the Cisco VPN Client. The installation apears to proceed smoothly until the installation progress indicator reaches the point where it states that it is installing the "Deterministic Network Enhancer." Shortly reaching this point, the Windows CPU Usage monitor reaches 100% and the operating system freezes.
I have tried the following actions, which failed to successfully install the software:
a) Installing Cisco VPN Client 5.0.00.0340 produced the same problem.
b) Reformatted the hard drive, installed Windows 7, and tried to install the Cisco VPN Client again, but failed.
c) Used Windows 7 System Restore to restore OS state prior to the installation of the Cisco VPN Client. Then, ran Citrix's winfix.exe tool. After that, I ran Citrix's dneupdate.msi program for 32-bit Windows operating systems, but that also crashed the OS mid-way through the installation/update.
d) This URL from Citrix (http://www.citrix.com/lang/English/lp/lp_1680845.asp) suggested changing a Windows registry key, then try re-installing the Cisco VPN Client. However, that did not work.
I am at a loss as to how to resolve this issue. If anyone can provide some suggestions or a solution to this issue, I would greatly appreciate it.
Regards,
SamsonWelcome to the forums !
