Oracle9i For RedHat8.0!

Hi,
Is there a version of Oracle9i database available for RedHat8.0 running on Intel(xeon).
If so,URL please...
Thanks,
-Uday.

You can run Oracle 9i on RedHat 8.0, but Oracle only supports the RHAS version of RedHat:
http://technet.oracle.com/software/products/oracle9i/content.html
I use Oracle 9.2.0 on RedHat 8.0 (w/ a Pentium) for playing around at home. I reviewed this webpage for help during install:

    Regards
    Shiva.

    Yes, you can download Oracle9i database at the very bottom of the page you have quoted. The license allows you to use it for development purposes only and you would license the product when you go to a production environment. You will see the full terms of the license when you go to download it.

  • Oracle9i for Linux/390 and Oracle9i for z/Linux

    Hi,
    For those who asked about testing on SLES7 and getting a trial copy of SLES7 (since it now costs money), apparently SuSE will furnish trial copies of their distribution. They can be obtained through the SuSE sales rep.
    Barry

    I too have managed to get oracle installed on RedHat 2.4.9-17 kernel (Linux/390). However, I am kinda stuck there - I am completely new to Oracle. Is there some basic literature available on things like how to see the database schema (I ran the "@mkdb" cmd in the installation process, and I guess that created some sample database)? or how to look at the table data? I tried the following:
    $ sqlplus /nolog
    SQL*Plus: Release ...
    (c) Copyright ...
    SQL> connect scott/tiger@p901_tcp
    Connected
    SQL> select * from dba_users
    2 .
    SQL> help
    SP2-0171: HELP not accessible
    SQL> quit
    Disconnected from Oracle9i Enterprise Edition ...
    $
    Any pointers? thanx,
    -Ashutosh

  • Port Number in Oracle9i for running isqlplus

    Hi all,
    Just yesterday I installed Oracle9i in my PC which OS is WinXP. After installing, I faced a problem whenever I tried to run isqlplus.
    Because from Oracle Enterprise Manager console I found Host (pc) & PORT (1521). So, when in IE i gave (http://pc:1521/isqlplus) it couldn't run. But after so many attempt, when I use PORT No. 80 instead of 1521, isqlplus window was open and run successfully.
    Now my question is : Why PORT NUMBER is change from Console Manager & WinXP port no.?
    Can any one clarify this? Does it differ in various OS?
    Sans

    Hi user514582,
    I don't know why the port has changed but here is the solution to change it back:

  • Corrupted files in downloading Oracle9 for Solaris

    Hi all,
    I've experienced in the last three days some problems in downloading Oracle 9.2 for Sun Solaris 8 SPARC/64. I get all the times the three files corrupted (bad crc when I unzip them).
    These are the lengths of files I've downloaded (I've tryed it many times, and I always get the same result, so maybe the original files are corrupted):
    solaris64_9.2.0.1.0.Disk1.cpio.gz: 583.760.199 bytes (instead of 583,756,222 bytes);
    solaris64_9.2.0.1.0.Disk2.cpio.gz: 603.564.525 bytes (instead of 603,567,380 bytes);
    solaris64_9.2.0.1.0.Disk3.cpio.gz: 334.966.194 bytes (instead of 334,964,265 bytes).
    Any idea?

    Sorry, the message was 'invalid compressed data--format violated' and not 'bad crc'...

    gud day!!

    hat is the release of Oracel 9i that you've installed on RedHat Linux 8.0
    We have Oracle 9i for Linux 9.2.0.1 and we cannot get it to install on any Linux including RedHat 8.0
    The OS on which Oracle 9i that we now have is supposed to run on SCO Open Unix 8.0 (with LKP). We failed miserably in installing it on this OS.
    Can you help?

  • Version 920 of Oracle9i for linux (before Mar-26)

    now links to 3 disks of lnx_920_disk(1-3).cpio.gz are replaced (2 days ago) with links to 3 disks ship_9204_linux_disk(1-3).cpio.gz, but I need the link to the 3rd from 920. I finished and backed up 1 and 2 (from 920), and suddenly the 920 links disappeared without any trace in favor of these 9204...
    The old version surely still exists on the server (I was downloading the disk 2 while its link wasn't on the website, since I selected it while it still existed and my download program remembered it, but too bad i didnt select disk 3 in advance).
    Why is link to 920 removed so suddenly? It should be kept at least a week or two links to both versions at the same time...

    We do recommend the 'latest' 9.2.0.4 patchset version of Oracle9i but you can still get that last old file at:
    http://otn.oracle.com/software/htdocs/devlic.html?http://download.oracle.com/otn/linux/oracle9i/9201/lnx_920_disk3.cpio.gz

  • Update: Install solution for latest Oracle9i for Linux/390 download

    Release notes have been updated to include the following solution from MetaLink
    Doc ID 158104.1 out of metalink.
    ++++++++++++++++
    Copy of Doc ID 158104.1
    ++++++++++++++++
    fact: Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition 9.0.1
    fact: Intel Based Server LINUX
    fact: RedHat 7.1
    symptom: Installation fails
    symptom: Error during linking
    symptom: ins_plsql.mk
    cause: <BUG:1843232>.
    Versions of ld prior to version 2.11 ignored the "-z defs" flag. ld
    version 2.11 and later have the ability to use this flag. Because of
    this the genclntsh script fails to produce the libclntsh.so library on a
    machine running ld > 2.11.
    The "-z defs" is set in the variable LD_SELF_CONTAINED in the
    genclntsh script.
    fix:
    When receiving this error during installation, follow these steps:
    1. Open a new console window on the host as the installation user.
    2. Set up the Oracle environment (i.e. ORACLE_HOME).
    3. Make a backup of the $ORACLE_HOME/genclntsh script.
    4. Remove the ${LD_SELF_CONTAINED} flag from the ld command in the 'Create
    Library' section.
    5. Run the genclntsh script.
    6. Click on 'Retry' in the Universal Installer
    The installation will now proceed.
    This should be fixed in 9.0.2

  • Two errors when installing oracle9i personal for win98

    hi
    i have installed a typical version of personal oracle9i for win98 on my e drive.i have windows 98 in c drive. While installing i got two errors:
    1)error in writing to file e:\oracle9i\sqlj\lib\translator.zip
    2)error in writing to file e:\oracle9i\assistants\dbca\templates\Seec_Database.dbf
    Is it possible to perform a custom installation without these errors.
    After installing by skipping those errors when i start sql plus i am getting these errors:
    ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
    ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
    -01017:invalid username/password; logon denied
    one of the friends suggested that i start oracle services in control panel. but i don't have "oracle services" in my control panel of win98.
    is there a way to overcome these errors.
    thanks a lot in advance.

    You get this error when you don't start the Oracle services. Please goto control panel and start the Oracle services and then try to login to solve the problem.

  • Oracle9i OCI for MacOS X

    Dear Oracle,
    Where and/or when can I find OCI for Oracle9i for MacOS X?
    I know about the existance of the 8i oci but that's not good for me.
    Thanks a lot.

    AFAIK we haven't provided a 9i client for MacOSX yet. I am pretty sure it is coming though and it should include the OCI libraries.

  • Oracle 10g Discoverer Reports & export to xls fails for large reports

    Hi ,
    We have following configurations:
    1: RHEL 5.4
    2: Discoverer :Version 10.1.2.48.18
    3: Oracle10g Apps Version : Version 10.1.2.0.2
    Issue:
    Most of small reports works fine ....but when large discoverer reports are executed the page
    keeps on refreshing for 15-20 hours but no output ....same for export to xls ......
    But same reports works fine in oracle9i for same data voulme....
    Observations:
    When on linux with top command the processes are monitored its observed that discoverer process
    dis51ws dies for large reports after 1-2 minutes ...& the page keeps on refreshing but no output....
    for 1-2 minutes it consumes 50-80% cpu utilisation then process disappears & cpu 80% idle ...
    It seems that as 10g Apps is installed on RHEL 5.4 ...non certfified OS causing an issue...

    Regards,

    Hi ,
    as per Note: 466697.1 ....its an memory error....& need to increase MaxVirtualDiskMem and MaxVirtualHeapMem
    But we already have slowly increased MaxVirtualDiskMem and MaxVirtualHeapMem to below very high values ...but the issue remains same.......
    as per note we are getting Logkeys: exceptions discoiv.servlet_exceptions error but
    after that we are not getting below error ............
    Unexpected error in state machine: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
    Hence I presume that its different issue rather than memmory....
    Below are pref.txt values..........
    CacheFlushPercentage          = 25          # Percent of cache flushed if the cache is full. valid values 0 - 100%.
    MaxVirtualDiskMem          = 9294967296     # Maximum amount of disk memory allowed for the data cache. Should be greater than or equal to MaxVirtualHeapMem
    MaxVirtualHeapMem          = 4294967296     # Maximum amount of heap memory allowed for the data cache.
    QueryBehavior = 0          # Action to take after opening a workbook (0 = Run Query Automatically, 1 = Don't Run Query, 2 = Ask for Confirmation)
    Also we have raised an SR & as per SR .............all below settings are tried as per SR except for applying a recent patch....
    ====================================================================
    Discoverer performance is largely determined by how well the database
    has been designed and tuned for queries.
    A well-designed database will perform significantly better than a poorly
    designed database.
    Workbook design can also affect query performance.
    1. Apply latest Discoverer patch as documented in <<Note:237607.1>>
    'ALERT: Required and Recommended Patch Levels For All Discoverer Version'.
    2. Increase the maximum JVM heap memory:
    In general, the default values for the minimum heap (-Xms) memory and
    maximum heap (-Xmx) memory are sufficient.
    However, if your organization consistently runs large Discoverer queries
    then you may benefit from increasing the maximum heap memory from the
    default values.
    This is recomended if your users are typically running large queries via
    Discoverer Viewer.
    Increasing the JVM memory can help to avoid "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError"
    in Discoverer Viewer:
    Please see <<Note 563960.1>>, Best Practice: Configuring The
    OC4J_BI_Forms JVM For
    Discoverer Viewer/Portlet 10g Performance And Stability for specific
    details.
    3. Disable Query Prediction:
    Query Prediction provides an estimate of the time required to retrieve
    the information in a query.
    The Query Prediction appears before the query and consumes time.
    Edit the <oracle_home>/discoverer/util/pref.txt on the middle-tier
    server and set:
    QPPEnable=0
    Also set:
    QPPObtainCostMethod = 0
    4. Uncheck the 'Enable fantrap detection' checkbox.
    When the box is checked, every query generated by Discoverer is
    interrogated. Discoverer will detect a fan trap and rewrite the query to
    ensure that the aggregation is done at the correct level.
    Please refer to <<Note:210553.1>>, Oracle BI Discoverer: Fan Trap
    Resolution - Correct Results
    Everytime for more information on fantraps.
    To disable, in Plus go to Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Fan Trap
    settings.
    In Viewer go to Preferences and uncheck the box.
    5. Disable Materialized Views/Summaries
    In pref.txt add parameter:
    MaterializedViewRedirectionBehavior = 0
    Value equal to 0 ensures that Materialized View (MV) Redirection is
    always performed when MVs are available.
    6. Improve query performance by optimizing the SQL.
    In pref.txt modify/add following parameters:
    SQLFlatten = 0
    SQLItemTrim = 0
    SQLJoinTrim = 0
    UseOptimizerHints = 0
    If value of SQLFlatten is 1 then Discoverer will merge inline views in
    the query SQL where ever possible.
    In case of SQLItemTrim, Discoverer will remove unused folder items from
    the query SQL where possible and for SQLJoinTrim Discoverer will remove
    unnecessary joins from the query where possible.
    UseOptimizerHints will add Optimizer hints to SQL if set >
    0.Unnecessarily making Discoverer perform these checks consumes
    resources and rather than increasing the performance may reduce the same. So unless you feel these checks have to be performed depending on
    requirements, assign zero to these parameters.
    7. When Discoverer builds a query, Discoverer makes a database security
    check to confirm that the user has access to the tables referenced in
    the folders. Avoiding this check can save time.
    So in pref.txt underDatabase section add:
    ObjectsAlwaysAccessible = 1
    8. Whenever you are creating conditions, ensure that you match the Case.
    This in turn can reduce the time Discoverer spends on changing the Case
    and matching.
    For example:
    option Upper(Department) in (Upper('VIDEO SALES')
    9. Ensure that summaries are refreshed periodically in Discoverer
    Administrator.
    10. Increase the amount of memory available for the Discoverer data cache. Please refer to <<Note 245752.1>>, Explaining Oracle BI Discoverer
    Session Memory Management
    And Server Cache Settings.
    11. Performance may be enhanced by enabling OracleAS Web Cache.
