  • Error on Install Oracle9i R2 on RedHat Linux 7.3

When I have installed Oracle9i R2 on RedHat Linux 7.3,I reboot the machine,
    and then write this:
    sqlplus
    SQL> sys /change_on_install as sysdba
    SQL>Connect to Iddle
    SQL>startup
    SQL>sltln:environment variable cannot be evaluated
    What`s the matter?
    thanks

Looks like some file that's present in tmp or
/var/tmp during deployment cannot be overwritten
because of permissions issue. Please make
sure you don't have previous installation temp files
in /var/tmp or /tmp before doing new installation or
use the same use that installed the first instance.
You can try cleaning up tmp and /var/tmp and retry.
Also try setting umask 00 before installations.

  • Oracle9i Installation on SuSe Linux 7.3 Professional Edition

    Hi,
I'm trying to Install Oracle 9i Database server on SuSe Linux 7.3 Professional Edition. I have gone throgh the Oracle 9i release notes for the Linux version. In the release notes document, in the OS Software Requirement section ( the following statement is mentioned as below ):
"The following executables must present in the /usr/bin directory : make, ar, ld, nm"
But after the Linux insalltion I found that only make executable is present and other doesn't. My doubt is, if I continue with the Oracle Installtion without these files does the installer cause any problems? If so how do I get these executables, as these executables doesn't exist in the "Software Installation" listing of SuSe 7.3 Professional edition?
Another doubt is, Does SuSe 7.3 Professional edition suitable for Oracle 9i Database server? I checked the Kernal version, it seems to be OK.
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance

  • Please help with oracle9i installation on PCQ Linux 2004

    hi all
    please help,
installation of oracle9i hangs on PCQ Linux2004 ,
    The installation starts with message
Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /tmp/OraInstall2005-03-02_11-04-34PM/jre/bin/java. Please wait...
After this message installation stops.I also have latest JDK version which jdk1.4
    please help

You said you upgraded the JRE to 1.4. Did you change the parameter JRE_LOCATION in oraparam.ini, to point to the newer jre? I found some info on this forum thread for this error (but this error occurs before the installation screens even come up. You didn't mention exactly what screen your error comes up on so I figured I would mention this just in case).
Re: install oracle9204 in redhat linux es 3
If you're on the screen after the installation summary screen, and it hangs while saying "Link pending, copying JRE" above the progress bar, I am also at this stage.
Although I haven't fixed the problem yet, someone mentioned that you need to install patch 2878462 to fix this problem. I haven't done this yet, but saw the write up here:
    http://www.orafaq.com/forum/t/37572/0/
I can't figure out how to get the patch since I don't have a support contract. I don't understand how they can provide a free linux download and not give you access to the patchsets (on metalink)!!!! Anyone know how I can get the patchset without having a support contract and logging into metalink?
Anyone know if installing this patch solves the issue?

  • Oracle Announces Oracle9i Database for IBM Linux/390

    Hi Folks,
Check out the following URL for the announcement, which went out this morning (March 18, 2002 at 8:00am Eastern).
    http://www.oracle.com/corporate/press/index.html?1270638.html
Also, we've had a report that the Oracle9i Database Developer's Release for Linux/390 works on TurboLinux. I'll post distribution version information when I've received it.
    Barry

From reading the other messages in this forum I now know that I'm not alone.
I was lucky enough to get a valid download for 9.2 database for linux but it took
a number of tries. It would be helpful if there could be a number of published
mirror sites to try downloading from. Perhaps this is already implemented
transparently to the end user and it's just luck of the draw that you hit a mirror
    that works...
However, I've been having problems downloading ora9ias for about 4 days now.
I'm probably making things worse for others because I've tried to download
disk 1 and 4 at least 3 times and keep getting files that are close to the stated
size but usually a few k bigger or smaller; then I get the invalid gzip file error
message from gunzip. I've tried downloading from IE 5.5, netscape (from both
windows and linux), trying various ways of downloading (holding shift, or right
clicking with save as) and still no luck.
I'll keep trying, but if anyone has any solutions please publish them to this forum.
    thanks.

You should consider installing Oracle patch 4198954.
You can obtain it from Oracle Support (Metalink).

  • Oracle9i jdbc on linux with Sun App Server7

    Hello all,
I'm having trouble setting up oracle9i jdbc drivers on linux. I downloaded ojdbc14.jar from oracle's download site and put it in sun/domains/domain1/lib. I also added the jar file in the server classpath suffix, but somehow the connections are not going through. I wrote a simple java test application to test the drivers and that works perfectly. It's just the server that's not being able to connect for some reason. Any ideas? I use thin connection.

    hi Ed,
your log clearly states that there is some problem with your glibc kernel, and there are some relinking issues also.
I suggest you to download the glibc and extract that tar file , which produces one shell script , run it and mostly your problem gets solved. By the way dont forget to copy the relink file in $ORACLE_HOME/bin.
    get back after your attempt
    regards

    set autotrace on
your query and check the result, I think
they are using a direffence plan, remember that you must analyze the table first, and I dont think your problem has to be with linux

  • Oracle 9i and SDO

I am trying to find out if Oracle SDO is supplied/supported with Oracle9i Enterprise Edition for Linux. A colleague believed that it wasn't included, but I find this hard to believe. Does anyone know the answer, or better still do you know a web page which identifies the supported components?

I couldn't find the answer to this question either, until I installed it! Yes, the mdsys package (formerly SDO) is included in both the 8.1.7 and 9i Linux releases. The installer installed the package by default on 9i (I didn't install 8.1.7).
