Oracle9iAS java edition v9.0.3 installer problem on solaris

Hi All
I have downloaded Oracle9ias and when i try to run the installer it complains that /etc/hosts and some other files in /etc directory do not have the entries in the specified format.
I checked /etc/hosts it has entry in the same format as required by the installer.
Can any one please tell me where the problem is
- kumar

in the hostname file you must have the ip and the alias
for example
192.168.1.2 iasbi.oracle.com iasb1
192.168.1.3 infra.oracle.com infra
first is the ip, then the servername with domain, then the alias.
hope this will help you

  • Oracle9iAS Java Edition v9.0.3 instalattion on SuSE 8.2

The OC4J "standalone" edition was simple.
With the Oracle9iAS Java Edition v9.0.3 instalation bundle, it comes with other funcionalites (Oracle HTTP server, enterprise console, and other), and with many many problems.
I have tested the installation under SuSE 8.2 Professional and the installation fails.
The following makefiles can't be executed (no error appears, and i have the korn shell installed)
    ins_sqlplus.mk
    ins_oemagent.mk
    ins_calypso.mk
The installation of OC4J home instance, fails with a security exception when creating some unix file.
The deployments of application in the OC4J_demo instance also fails with exception:
    java.io.IOException: Permission denied

Having SecurityExceptions because the user does not have the rigth permissions, is strange, because I was installing everything in the user home directory.
So the only problem I can see, was permissions to write in the /tmp directory. I checked that the user also as write permissions in that directory.
Looking in the logs files I noticed that Oracle is passing the -Djava.io.tmpdir parameter, when no environment values is used for TMP or TMPDIR, when deploying applications in OC4J:
Launched configuration tool OC4J Instance Configuration Assistant
Command which is being spawned is /export/data01/o9ias/jdk/bin/java -Djava.io.tmpdir= -mx512M -classpath ...
If Oracle should not specify the -Djava.io.tmpdir=, then everything worked out of the box.
I defined the environment variables (in the shell) TMP, TMPDIR, so that in the -Djava.io.tmpdir= was replaced by -Djava.io.tmpdir=<my temp dir>. With this the deployments that failed, now worked.
After this another problem. Oracle HttpServer fails to start. Looking in the loges, some modules are configured to be loaded, but are not found:
    mod_ossl.so
    mod_oradav.so
    modplsql.so
Commenting this modules, makes http server start. Shouldn't this be commented in the Java Edition?
The only problem I have know is the make of ins_sqlplus.mk, ins_oemagent.mk and ins_calypso.mk. Can anyone help me on this, or at least explain us why this is needed?
    thanks,

    - using vista home premium
    - downloaded all the install programs from the sun website
    - closed all browsers before installing
    - can install other programs--both exe and msi installers
    - tried deleting all java folders from my hard disk and java applicable references in the registry
    - turned off UAC
    - turned off firewall
    - turned off av monitoring
    - ran as administrator
    - ran in XP compatibility mode
    - also tried same in safe mode
    nothing worked. any suggestions?

    Gavin,
This looks like a known problem with TTA 4.00.903 and some Solaris
patches which were distributed at about the same time. However, you say
you're using 4.10.903, and as far as I know the problem should be fixed
    in that version.
You could try the workaround described in
    http://www.tarantella.com/documentation/sgd/ee/4.0/install.html - search
for "tta_pkgadd" on that page and follow the instructions given there.

    Hi,

    /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.7.0_17.jdk/Contents
    drwxrwxr-x 15 root wheel 510 10 Apr 16:18 Home

    drwxrwxr-x 3 root wheel 102 10 Apr 16:18 MacOS
This installation seems to be incomplete. When I installed 1.6.0, I can see the following:

When I try to use the 1.7 installation in IntelliJ, it cant find classes.jar, and thus any of the java classes..
The compiler flags red all over the project.
I tried installing jdk-7u15-macosx-x64.dmg and I still get the same problem.
Any idea what could be going wrong? Im running a MacBook Air with Mac OS X 10.7.5
    Thanks.

This got solved by upgrading my IntelliJ from 10.5 to 12.1 CE. It appears that Oracle may have made some changes to the Java 1.7 installable, which intelliJ 10.5 cant handle, but 12.1 seems to understand well. Unless there is more to it than meets the eye. If so, please do reply to this thread to explain more detail. Thanks.

    For example:
    -Xmx768m
    -Xms384m
    -XX:NewSize=96m
    -XX:MaxNewSize=192m
This will set the start of young memory 96m, and start of tenured memory (384-96)m

  • Installation problems with Solaris 8 on Intel

    Howdy,
I am having some problem with my installation of Solaris 8 on Intel. I am installing the system on a P133 (Asus TX97 motherboard). When I first start the installation and perform the system scan I get the following error:
The PnP ISA: IDE Controller programable device was unable to be programmed.
This could be caused by two possible reasons:
    - Lack of resouces available
    - There is a conflict with the following already-existing device: 8086,7111 - Bus Mastering IDE Controller
When I bring up the View/Edit device settings and I scroll to the IDE controller there is an ! mark beside the PCI IDE controller. The controler is specifying: Bus 0, device: 1, function: 1 port 1F0-1F7, 3F6, 170-177, 376, E000-E00F, 0 IRQ 14, 15
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this conflict? I tried removing the PCI IDE interface and then installing a ISA IDE interfact (for IRQ: 14, IRQ 15 automatically put a PnP IDE controller there). This seemed to resolve the conflict but then I received a: No Bootable devices have been found.
If anyone can help out with how to resolve the conflict, or what the No Bootable Devices have been found error it would be greatly appreciated.
Currently there is a partition set up with NT on it, but I wish to basically get rid of everything on the HD and install Solaris on it. FYI, when I check the HD's in NT it mentions I/0: 1F0-1F7 IRQ 14 and also I/O 170-177 IRQ 15.
Any help would greatly be appreciated.
    Regards,
    S.

When I close down Solais in the CDE I am taken back to the logon screen
and I turn the PC off.Don't do that. If you simply turn off the PC, the OS has no chance to
write back cached / modified disk data back to the HDD - this is also the
reason why solaris has to check the filesystems on the next boot and apparently
    has to repair filesystem defects.
What you have to do is shutdown the machine, before you can power it off.
Login as user "root" and use the command
    init 5
    or
    halt
"init 5" will shutdown system services, by executing commands from
/etc/rc0.d/K* with argument "stop". Then it'll sync all modified disk blocks to
the HDD, kills all remaining processes and unmounts all filesystems. In this
state it's safe to power off the machine!
"halt" is a quick-and-dirty shutdown. It does not stop system services (the
/etc/rc0.d/K* commands are not run). But, it syncs all modified disk blocks
to the HDD, kills all processes and unmounts all filesystems. "init 5" is preferred,
especially if you have services like a database server running on the machine,
which needs to be cleanly shutdown. On the other hand, with a default solaris
installation and no extra services, a simple "halt" should be OK.
Btw. if multiple users are logged in on the machine, you should also have a look
at the shutdown(1M) command. "shutdown" sends warnings to the logged in
users that the machine is about to be shut down, ...

I had similar problems several months ago. I suspect this happens when host pc does not have floppy drive(or bios somehow misreports it) as it was in my case. Solaris 8 seems to work fine in the same environment, so I keep using it for now. Possible workaround might be to use DCA from Solaris 8: Installation of Sol9 started just fine after I entered Sol8 DCA and asked it to boot from Sol9 CD.
Hope this problem will be fixed in subsequent Sol9 releases.

  • ISW Installation problem on Solaris SPARC

We are currently running JES4 directory server version 5.2 patch 5.
We wanted to test a JES5 installation so we could install Identity
Synchronization for Windows (ISW) and see if it would resolve the
problem we have keeping our Directory Server (JES4) and Active
    Directory (AD) servers synchronized.
We did a clean install of JES5 with Directory Server 6.2. Prior to the
installation of ISW, we migrated the data from our production JES4
system and loaded that data into the newly installed and configured
JES5 system. That all went fine.
Then we then tried installing ISW, but the installation failed during the
portion of the install process where the administration server is
    installed.
Has anyone seen this problem, or can you tell us any gotchas?
