Question...Do I have to install Ora9iAS in order to test forms and reports 9i? I am trying to create my own testing environment "stand alone" at home. I plan to install Personal Oracle 9i and Forms/reports 9i. If anyone has any information on the best way to approach this I would appreciate it.

You don't need iAS, iDS will be enough for your testing purposes. OC4J in Forms allows you to run your forms locally. Why are you using 9i and not 10g, I only ask because 10g forms sets up webutil for you as well (if you need it)

No records in Oracle9iDS Forms

Hi,
I've recently installed the Oracle9iDS...
When running the form with the CustomerDemo database (or any of the other databases for that matter) no records are displayed.
The CustomerDemo has at least 7 records in it ... my form only shows an empty record.
There is every indication that I am connected to the database, but I can't see the records.
Anyone have any ideas?

What is your update profile (OF37)? Do you have entries to overwrite it in OF39? In your FI document, can you see FM assignment or not? If you want it to pass automatically from EMF, you should define it via S_KI4_55000122 transaction.

Corrupt Oracle9IDS Files

Trying to download Oracle9iDS from the following page:

But after downloaded all files and following the directions, double clicking on the exe file opens up winzip which said that is it not a valid zip file. In addition, the file size of the file1, file2 and file4 are not 100MB. We are using Windows XP and IE to download.

Yep, seeing it on footage that has been rendered on the edit suites I was working in at uni. Capture Scratch footage(raw captured footage)seems fine. Artifacts appear on canvas and external monitor. Monitoring via firerwire 400 port through mini dv deck on ext monitor. Working from an external firewire drive on a lacie pci firewire 800 port. Uni runs fcp 4.5 with OSX 10.4.2.
Brought drive home to work on my system with fcp 5 artifacts still appearred until I reconnected them to the captured files and did a re-render. The artifacts have dissappeared, i think. I have saved a copy of the original to work with fcp 5 so i still have the original to work with at uni on fcp 4.5. I need to be able to work at uni as well as home.
Do you think this problem stems from corrupt render files? To begin with I thought it might have been a tape problem but tapes play back clean, the clean captured raw footage seems to back this up.

Problem installing Oracle9iDS Release 2 v9.0.2 on Debian 2.2r0 Linux with GLIBC 2.1

After starting Installer of Oracle9iDS Release 2 v9.0.2 with ./runInstaller installation broke with message
Oracle9iDS needs GLIBC 2.2
Is there any way to install Oracle9iDS 9.0.2 on Linux without moving on glibc 2.2.
Oracle 8.1.7 works very well on my Debian 22r0 - glibc2.1 kernel 2.4.7 (AMD K6 II 400+ 384MB RAM) and as I know 8.1.7 is precompiled on GLIBC 2.1 and do not work with GLIBC 2.2 so there is a problem:
Database work with glibc 2.1 and DS with GLibc 2.2
Is there any way to install DS on existing glibc 2.1

You can always check for compatibility and certification matrices on the Support site: http://metalink.oracle.com.
Oracle9iDS Release 2 v9.0.2 on WinXP has no issues and is certified on the Professional edition of XP.

Oracle9iDS Forms Developer JDAPI and XMLTOOLS Javadoc ZIP file is missing. When you click on http://otn.oracle.com/documentation/9i_forms.html and scroll down to to Javadoc section, click on zip link moves you to http://otn.oracle.com/documentation/index.html which is wrong. Please take action and fix it!

9iAS is the application server. It is a bundle of software, one component of which is the Discoverer server.
9iDS is the development software. Again, it is a bundle of software, one component of which is the Discoverer EUL administration tool.
9iDS also contains a Windows-only Discoverer client, should you wish to use Discoverer in client-server mode (eg., for your power-power users or for development of very complex reports).
In order to use Discoverer effectively you need to install 9iAS on the server (twice!) and 9iDS on the Discoverer administrator's machine. In this configuration, regular users need nothing more than a modest PC with a decent web browser.

Error while winXP startup after Oracle9iDS installation

Hi all,
I have installed Forms6i on my WIN-XP machine.
Then I installed Oracle9iDS on the same machine.
I used for this installation a new oracle_home.
When I restarted my machine I got during windwos startup an errormessage:
"agntsrvc.exe - Application error
The exception privileged instruction (hexastuff) occured in the application at (hexastuff)
Click on OK .... "
After I click OK anything seems to work normally.
If I change the ORACLE_HOME environment variable in the control panel -> system ... to the root installation directory of the new Oracle9iDS installation the errormessage does not occurr.
Does anybody have an idea about the reason of the error message. Why does it occurr when I use ORACLE_HOME with the installation directory of Forms6i?

The Oracle Agent service starts automatically by default when the pc is booted. If your path or oracle_home points to the wrong home directory, it may find older files in the dev6i/bin directory first.
You can set the service to Manual. I never start it at all. I don't even know what it does, actually.

9i Forms (and all future releases) is a web deployed only release.

Can I use oracle9ids to serve reports without using oracle portals and if so I want to know where to put my forms and my reports I test forms and I put it in the same directory where the test file exists

You don't have to use Oracle Portal to publish reports. You do need 9iAS, though. The OC4J that comes with 9iDS is for developing purposes only. If you want to use Forms and Reports in your application, you need 9iAS.

Oracle9iDS form not running in browser

I'm running Oracle9i rel 2 and Oracle9iAS forms developer on the same windows 2000 machine. Have no problem connecting to database from forms developer. Have Oracle http server listening on port 8888. However, when attempting to run form, I get a "file not found" error in internet explorer. I can see the forms server arguments (debug=no, etc.) passed to explorer. Any ideas? Do I have to install Oracle 9iAS just to test forms from forms developer?

are you running Forms on Oracle9iAS or oracle9iDS HTTP server. From the port number 8888 it seems to be the OC4J instance in Oracle9iDS (if not you changed it). In case that it is the iDS HTTP server, is the server up and running? Try to call
http://<hostname>:<port>
if this shows a page then call
http://<hostname>:<port>/forms90/f90servlet/admin
if this doesn't show anything then the Forms servlet is not accessible and we need to track this

Run Report Server in Oracle9iDS

I use Oracle9iDS ( from9i & report9i)
I can open report direct from browser by writing URL
http://test:8888/reports/rwservlet?report=test.rep&userid=test/test@test&destype=cache&desformat=html&server=repserver and it Runs the Smart Agent .
I note when the Smart Agent is running , I can call and run report server from Form by using the following code , otherwise it gives me blank page and alerts me that it cant find report server . Please point me how the Smart Agent will be running immediately after I call report server from Form .

the Smart Agent is a part of the Object Request Broker (ORB) used by the Reports Services internal communication. Seeing the Smart Agent window shows you that the Reports Server is running. The problem you are having is that the Reports Servlet that you run from the URL in the Web implicitly starts the Reports Server for you. Forms does not use this Servlet for reporting and thus requires the Reports Services to be up and running when first requesting it. You need to start the Reports Server prior to using it with Forms. E.g. as a service:
rwserver -install repsrv
to install it as a windows service

4.report_path is checked for the path where my report is residing.
5.added a string value in regedit tns_admin='oracle_home\network\admin'

how do i refer this repserver in TNSNAMES.ORA..,????

the Reports Server name doesn't need to be mentioned in teh TNSNAMES file anymore. This was required in Reports6i and before. Since Reports9i the architecture has changed and a Report Server can be accessed by its name in teh network. The problem that is reported can be due to uncompiled PLSQL in teh Reports rdf file. If you check the Reports queuemanager (on Windows) or using the Servlet command then you see the detailed error message. If you don't see any error message in teh queuemanager then the Reports module file wasn't found. Make sure that the Reports9i Server has access to this. The Reports9i Server Reports_Path is not set in the registry (as far as I know) but in one of its configuration files.
As a quick test - look for the Reports sample files and add your file to the same directory.

Forms/Reports created using Oracle9iDS on Windows 2K deployed on Oracle9iAS on Linux

I have got recently three Oracle Products namely, Oracle 9i Database, Oracle 9i Application Server (9iAS) and Oracle Internet Developer Suite (iDS). The Oracle 9i Database and Oracle 9iAS are installed on the RedHat Linux 7.3 Advanced Server. The Internet Developer Suite is for the MS Windows 98/2000 platform.
My question is whether my application developed using Forms 6i and Reports 6i available with Internet Developer Suite, on the MS Windows 98/2000 platform can be deployed on the Oracle 9iAS on Linux. If yes, what are the issues involved in this? If not, do I need to re-develop my application using iDS on Linux?
I would be grateful to get an early answer to my questions.

Try open your fmb files on Linux 9iDS, if everything ok. Compile your form and try to run it.
I didn't check it myself, but I migrate forms from 4.5 forms to 6i forms without problems.
From Windows to Linux and back no problem, but you must remember to compile all forms for
target operating system (Linux or Windows).

Opening of a form in oracle9ids

I have problem to maximise my form window. I have 2 canvas and 2 window on the form. When I run form every thing ok. only on top of my form a default window is visible . I also have it removed from the forms properties menu module. but it still remains.
Kindly suggest how to remove this default window and open form in full screen.
