  • Events Wait - Latch Free

    Hello all,
Please help me to detect this problem. It's happening in my production db.
Everyday in specific hours, users often call me report that core application performance slow.
Then I query "SELECT * FROM V$SESSION_WAIT" to check wait event.
I can see that so many latch free events (library cache). It's always return the same/almost same results everytime I run this query.
I want to know who's holding the latch, so I do this:
    "SELECT l.sid, s.sql_hash_value, s.sql_address, s.osuser, s.username, s.machine, s.program, l.name
    FROM V$SESSION s, V$LATCHHOLDER l
    WHERE s.sid = l.sid;"
Unfortunately, there's no useful information, sometimes it returns zero result, sometimes just few records. And I can't get who's exactly holding the latch whereas the 'victim' sessions still waiting for the latch free event.
How to get SID who's holding the latch that caused session from V$SESSION_WAIT waiting ?
Once I get the SID of holder, I can check what query caused performance slow from v$sqlarea.
    Please advice,
    This is my system information.
    OS : AIX 5.2
    Oracle : Oracle 9.2.0.8
    Thank you,
    BSS.

    Hello, Thanks for replying
Because it contains high wait events and I think it's one of causal factor of degradation performance.
When the application was smooth, I noticed that this view contains few wait event records.
For additional information, I've also checked these things:
IO server : there's no significant disk busy on the server
redo generation : it takes about 10 minutes to generate redo (I think it's normal)
Or if you have any idea how to identify problem when application run slowly in specific hours, please welcome to mention it here...I'm very glad if you do :)
    Thanks,
    BSS

Is oracle bpm studio free downloadable or we need to buy license?

    Hi,
Oracle BPM studio can be downloaded from the below mentioned ink.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/bpm/index.html
But I hope the free s/w is only for limited time period. You can also go for buying the license version of the Oracle BPM studio.

  • When I try to open oracle Reports 6i its hanging..

    Hello..
I'm on Windows XP Sp3. As above, when I try to open oracle Reports 6i its hanging.. How can I check to see if the Reports Server is up or down? If its not that, has anybody got any thoughts on why its not opening? On double-clicking either the icon, the exe or a report rdf file its get as far as the initial banner before halting.
My environment variable path has the path of the reports Builder exe first in its list.. Anything else I could try?
If there's no way I can open reports builder now, how else could I possibly get the SQL that the report is built on?
    thanks for looking..

  • Is practising on Oracle OLAP features free with Oracle 11g EE?

    Hi,
Is practising on Oracle OLAP features free with Oracle 11g EE??
    Information found in Internet:
    - Oracle Corporation markets the Oracle Database OLAP Option as an extra-cost option to supplement the "Enterprise Edition" of its database.
    - Oracle Database OLAP is there pre-installed along with the rest of Oracle Database EE. You just need to license it for use on the DB Machine when you choose to use it.
    - Oracle OLAP is a world class multidimensional analytic engine embedded in Oracle Database 11g.
Please confirm if I can try some OLAP features in my office where I have Oracle 11g EE installed as I have been asked to do an initial POC?
    Regards,
    Sudhir

    Hi there,
I believe that the OLAP license falls under the developer license on OTN - http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/testcontent/standard-license-088383.html
You should contact your local Oracle sales rep if you are still unsure

Installing and running Oracle Linux is free according to GNU General Public License version 2 and you can use it even to run your business. Check https://linux.oracle.com

  • Question: Oracle Client is Free?????

I want to know if Oracle Client is free or I must order and paid? or just download it from Internet?
    Thanks

    Depends on what you mean...
Typically Oracle worries more about the server licensing than client licensing, but they'll also tell you to get the client from the release that came with the server.
Except for InstantClient. That's free ;)

    Hi,
Your problem isn't so much in your PL/SQL as that it is (your) PL/SQL.
Try doing the update in a single SQL statement and you will notice that it goes much much faster.
Finally, why are you doing this in a update? Can't you insert the correct data to start with? A single insert is much faster than an insert + update.
    Cheers,
    Colin

  • Windows 7 install of Oracle 11g R2 client hangs

The prior discussion was closed, but I have something to add, so I am opening a new thread.  The prior thread is Oracle 11g install hangs on windows 7
I found that the very final post, by user12924267 was correct and solved the problem for me.
The symptoms were the same or similar as what other users had reported.
On Windows 7 workstation, I ran the 11g r2 installer.  The installer would get to the point where it was checking system requirements, and then it would just hang there forever.
I tried disabling User Account Control (requiring a reboot), and that did not help.
I tried disabling the firewall, and that did not help.
However, the following command did work.  From the command prompt at the installation folder
         setup.exe -jreLoc C:\install\reinstall\sqldeveloper\jdk\jre
Then it went all the way through and installed successfully.
I don't think it really matters which Java folder you use.  I happened to have a Java folder that I knew worked (because I had previously successfully run SQL-Developer from it), and so I just re-used that same Java folder.  The default Java that comes with the 11g installer, is the one with the problem.

Pl confirm that you are following all of the steps in the Install Guide - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e16774/toc.htm
Try re-installing with option "-logLevel" set to "finest" to see if additional information is captured in the install logs - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/em.112/e12255/c_oui_appendix.htm#BABDADJE

    hi,
I am also having the same problem with DBCA. Usually it hangs at 40% and then dies. When running the scripts, it also crashes and i am not sure where to go from here. To follow is the last bit of the display for the scripts at they run. There are two errors present. I have done my best to research this issue on my own, however, I have not had any success. If anyone can point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated.
