OracleAS Portal 10g: Build Corporate Portals - Worth Taking this Course?

Hello,
I am currently building the company Intranet using the Oracle Instant Portal and I am new to Oracle and Portal concept. Would it be beneficial to take the following course? Has anyone taken this course before? What is your feedback for learning more about Oracle Portal / Oracle Instant Portal?
OracleAS Portal 10g: Build Corporate Portals
http://education.oracle.com/web_prod-plq-dad/plsql/show_desc.redirect?dc=D16648GC10&p_org_id=1001&lang=US&source_call=
Thanks!

This is a worthwhile course, but not for learning about Oracle Instant Portal (which was released after the Build Corporate Portals course was written). The best place to start finding out about Oracle Instant Portal is the self-paced Oracle By Example (OBE) tutorial, Building Instant Portals with Oracle Instant Portal. The tutorial also has links to a couple of viewlets, which you should find helpful.

  • DR solution for OracleAS Portal 10g

    Hi
    I have to think about a disaster recovery (DR) solution for OracleAS Portal10g.
    Location1: Primary
    Location2: DR System
    SAN Storage used between Location1 + 2.
    The disaster case happens only once a year. (test)
    In DR case, OS technical It would be possible to use the same DNS (hostname) on Location 2 like Location 1.
    Oracle advises to use Dataguard or cluster solutions.
    Do you know if our way would be a walkable and supportable way?
    Thanks

  • Oracle JHeadstart 10g release 9.0.5.1 now available!

    All,
    Oracle JHeadstart 10g Release 9.0.5.1 is now available. More than a month ago Oracle released Oracle JDeveloper 10g (9.0.5.1). This new JHeadstart release is certified against both JDeveloper 9.0.5.1 and 9.0.5.2. You can now benefit the strong combination of the new versions of Oracle JDeveloper and JHeadstart.
    What is Oracle JHeadstart?
    JHeadstart is a development tool kit, fully integrated with JDeveloper, that enables rapid component based development of J2EE applications using the Model-View-Controller (MVC) design pattern. It provides customers with 4GL-like productivity without jeopardizing the flexibility and openness of the J2EE architecture. In addition it includes a bridge from Oracle Designer that enables customers to generate fully functioning J2EE applications from Oracle Designer or to migrate Oracle Forms to J2EE.
    What is new in this release?
    In addition to the certification mentioned above this release includes the following new features:
    - Support for Oracle TopLink, adding extra flexibility.
    - A Tutorial that describes and a demo application that shows how to use JHeadstart in conjunction with TopLink based on multiple project experiences.
    - Links from the Applications Structure File editor to both the BC4J property editor as well as the JHeadstart Application Generator which streamlines the development process.
    - Pop-lists for regions and domains to prevent typing errors
    - Generation of regions in JSP pages
    - Fixes, for a complete list of fixes please refer to the release notes.
    Where to download?
    This maintenance release can be downloaded from the supplement option portal ( http://cso.oracle.com/ ) for customers that hold a supplement option license. It will be available for evaluation purposes on OTN later on.
    Where to go for more information?
    For more information go to the JHeadstart Product Center on OTN http://otn.oracle.com/consulting/9iServices/JHeadstart2.html.

    First, using 10.1.2.0 against 11.x is not recommended. You should at least be using 10.1.2.3 if you plan to work with 11.x. Further, there is a known issue which causes connection, compilation, and some sql execution to run significantly slowly. This issue has been corrected with a patch and new switch. If you have an active Support contact, I would recommend creating a Service Request in order to get the latest information.

  • Running an exe from within Oracle WebLogic 10g R3 does not find dll

    Hi,
    I am facing a strange issue with Oracle WebLogic 10g R3.
    I use the code as shown in Listing 1 below to run a windows based application exe (batch job) from within my web application hosted on Oracle WebLogic 10g Release 3.
    Note that this code woks fine on Tomcat 6.x and OC4J (JDeveloper TP4).
    The exec gets executed but the log of the exe program shows it could not load certain DLLs.
    Note that these DLLs are in the same directoy as the Batch program and this directory is in the PATH.
    Running through simple Java Program Successful*
    When I run the same program from a java program it runs successfully. So this means some WebLogic environment does not get set properly.
    Running directly BatchProg.exe rather than cmd.exe fails*
    Also note that when I run the exe directly e.g. BatchProg.exe rather than through cmd.exe it gives me a error the system did not find the file specified.
    CreateProcess error=2, The system cannot find the file specified with cause java.io.IOException: CreateProcess error=2, The system cannot find the file specified
    Listing 1:*
    String[] commandArgs = new String[|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/] { "cmd.exe", "/C", "BatchProg.exe \"param1\" \"param2\" " },null , l_workingDir)
    Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
    Process proc;
    proc = rt.exec( commandArgs, envParams, workingDir );
    ProcessIO errStream = new ProcessIO( proc.getErrorStream(), "ERROR");
    ProcessIO outStream = new ProcessIO( proc.getInputStream(), "OUTPUT");
    errStream.start(); // process any errors from the command
    outStream.start(); // process any output from the command
    System.out.println("Error=" +errStream);
    System.out.println("Out" + outStream);
    return (p_waitToFinish ? proc.waitFor() : this.SUCCESS);

    OK.
    I have posted this on the WebLogic Forum.
    Thanx.

  • Oracle Express 10g - cannot install on Windows 2003

    I'm trying to install Oracle Express 10g on Windows 2003. On this machine already works MS SQL2005 server.
    The installation starts ok but after copying files installer disappears whitout any message (in that moment an icon on desktop should be created, but it's not) All files copied first by installer are deleted upon it finishes it's work. From the same package I installed Express on Windows XP and then there was everything ok.
    I checked install log but it didn't tell me much. It looks more or less the same as the log file from succesful installation until bolded line:
    MSI (s) (30:A4) [15:02:44:281]: User policy value 'DisableRollback' is 0
    MSI (s) (30:A4) [15:02:44:281]: Machine policy value 'DisableRollback' is 0
    Action ended 15:02:44: InstallFinalize. Return value 2.
    On successful installation the return value is 1. But it doesn't tell me anything. Also in event logs I got only mssinstaller information (event 11708)
    Product: Oracle Database 10g Express Edition -- Installation operation failed.
    Do anyone experienced such problem?
    Regards,
    Piotr

    You may want to check Event ID: 11708.

    This tells me you are using a 3rd party or locally developed Java Bean to perform some type of print function. Is this correct?
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: java.io.IOException: open HTTP connection failed.Does your printtext.jar Java Bean need to open an HTTP connection in order to print?
    Have you been able to print in the past using this Java Bean? Where did you get the Java Bean?
