ORACLEAS Portal Activity Reports - Generating Portal activity reporsts

Hi i am a very new to oracle i suppose to generate report for audit trails and others like the top 10 URL by hour by day and by month
What is the guidelines that i am suppose to do , it seem like there are many ways of generating reports some how is not what i really wants.
I saw one at

Ok so you mean that you want this:
1. Collect statistics from Oracle Portal - portlet performance, top URL's etc
2. Using these statistics, generate reports

Oracle Apps RDF Report generates file with ^M (Carriage return) characters

We are upgrading from 11i to r12 (also moving from HP unix to AIX on hardware side) and this rdf report generates a text file which is then eventually sent to a third party system for printing. Report works just fine in 11i as it generates a file without any ^M chars but in R12 environment, the same report generates file with ^M chars.
Also want to understand how the Oracle Apps system hands over the output files to O/S which is saved.

What type of concurrent program are we talk about here?
This is a Report type of Concurrent program
How does the text file get generated?
Report is generating a Text file on :desname, a custom folder.
Was the binary mode used to copy the files from the old server to the new one?
I believe RDF Reports were copied over in Binary format but none of the text files generated from old server are copied over.

Activity reports for actual activity

I like the new reports feature of the VLM, but would it not be cool if it was able to trend the actual programming activity of the users, and not just how long the license was checked out?
Let's say that if there was no activity (defined for example as not even a mouse movement in any of the IDE's windows) for n minutes, then the system would unregister the license as in use (license-wise it could still be checked out, but not as in activity).
Sure, we could use other tools for this, and some people might want to make it optional - but as long as the report feature is there already, would not this little change make it quite a bit more interesting?

Thanks for your feedback! I agree that this data would provide a potentially interesting report for admins. This would be a feature of the application software itself (like LabVIEW, CVI, etc).
I will record this idea as a suggestion for those teams.

Activity Data Collector (ADC) - Portal Activity Report Dependancy

Hello all,
I have configured the Activity Data Collector (ADC) and it is working as designed.
But when I stop the Portal Activity Report, the other activity reporting feature, the ADC stops working too.. Does anybody seen this behavior and know why this is happening? We want to get rid of the PA Report, because it seems to be bug-ridden.

Hi,
If you are considering switching to ADC, please remember that it is a little bit different kind of report. There is a SAP Note 1084379 - Portal Activity Report - Latest version (SDA file) that can help you to solve the Activity report bug problem. In case you willing to try ADC
    1.      Navigate to System Administration -> System Configuration -> Service Configuration.
    2.      In the Portal Catalog, navigate to the portal service at Applications -> com.sap.portal.activitydatacollector
             -> Services -> DataCollectionHook.
    3.      Right-click DataCollectionHook, and select Configure.
    4.      Set the property Activate Data Collector to true, after youu2019ve switch the Activity report to false of course.

Problems with activity reports on Enterprise Portal

Hello, we have problems with activity reports on Enterprise Portal. It shows only zeros since certain date.
We have this error in monitoring of Activity Reports - Status of Activity Reporting: "The database contains non-aggregated data that is more than 2 hours old".
And we found this exception in logs: "Exception during a Prepared-statement DB update"
What could be a problem? What should we do?

Configurarion of the Data Collection Service is done well, I think:
Activate portal activity report: true
First day of the week (e.g., Sunday or Monday): Monday
Gather iView statistics:true

Activity Reporting X Activity Data Collector

Hi,
there are two types of activity reporting in SAP Enterprise Portal, Activity Data Collector and Activity Reporting. The SAP documentation for the Activity Data Collector
(http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/47/8ac2e51b141e1ee10000000a42189d/content.htm) specifies that the "Directory Name" property can be either a relative path or an absolute path on the server (<drive>:\dir).
However, the SAP documentation for the Activity Reporting (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/45/74eeda9ba26975e10000000a114a6b/frameset.htm) does not explicitly specify that the "Directory Name" property can be an absolute path on the server.
I've started the Activity Reporting for KM documents, but I don't have permissions to re-start the server anytime in order to test all the possible configurations. For now, the "Directory Name" is an absolute path. Can the "Directory Name" property of Actitity Reporting (KM) be an absolute path on the server? In order to start the Activity Reporting (KM), is it required to first start the Activity Data Collector?

Hi Daniel,
I don't think you need to activate the first Active Data Collector you mentioned,
there are two ADC releases - one for Portal and one for KM
Does your requeriments specify you must use an absolute path? Otherwise I'd
suggest using a relative path (/usr/sap/<SID>/...) - haven't tested absolute paths though.
so I don't know if that'd work.

If you have set up a naming standard with your company, you can usually ignore any Workbook Name that begins with Workbook. These are the ad-hoc workbooks created on a one-off basis. To exclude these you can amend the query as follows:

Portal Activity Report -- Simplification?

Hi all,
 I've been working with the Portal Activity Report iView for a couple of weeks now trying to develop some metrics for our company to measure the portal usage by. I didn't have any problems with the user reports, but I had a lot of issues with the iview/page reports. Although I sucessfully found and charted the daily data, it took a painstakingly long time because of several factors:
 - There was so much data that I had to shift through for about 1.5 months, upwards of 11000 rows.
 - I did not need most of the data as this is the first report being generated for the company, they just want more general metrics rather than detailed metrics. However, the company may still want reports on the other data later on, so we can't just disable the collection of data on most of our iViews.
 - The format of the date column in the iView/Page report did not sort well in Excel. Instead, I had to convert the dates to the more traditional mm/dd/yyyy format so that they sorted properly. This didn't take too long, but it was still an issue.
 - Unfortunately, when the portal was deployed, and still now, we do not have naming conventions for our iViews. This resulted in there being many object names (column heading) that were the same even though they were different iViews and pages (for example, an "About" iView exists on many pages). The only way to differentiate them was based on the PCD location, which is very long and not the best way to have to look at and sort through data.
 - Lastly, we only collected data for iViews/Pages that got at least 2 hits. This was fine for iViews/Pages that usually got 10 or more hits per day. However, for iViews that didn't get 2 on any given day, no data was reported. This is what we intended, obviously. But it became a problem when I went to go graph the data because I was using line charts with multiple lines (series) on them (for example, I grouped all the different search iViews onto one line chart to compare which search pages are getting used the most). Here is an example graph that I had to create dates and 0's for because the bottom two series had days were missing some days because they got less than 2 hits: <a href="http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/7365/examplegraphvd8.jpg">Example Graph</a>. Some of the series wouldn't have the same number of points because there were some days that were missing because they got less than 2 hits. This meant I had to go back and manually add in rows of missing dates along with 0 hits to make the graph correct.
 So, now that I've detailed the problems and issues, here is my real problem going forward. The executives would like monthly reports on the portal. Ideally, this process would be as automatic as possible. I was hoping people could suggest best practices for gathering and sorting through the data so that it doesn't take anywhere near as much time to group and identify key iViews and pages. Is there any way to selectively download data about iViews/Pages without turning off the data collection on other iViews/Page? Also, is there any way to automate the downloading of the iView/Page and User reports from the portal given a time interval such as every 30 days? Has anyone else run into similar problems in their own positions and, if so, can you make suggestions about how you have improved the reporting and charting process? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Ariel,
Check the database table WCR_WEBCONTENTSTAT, and see if any data is being generated. This will determine if the problem is data generation or the reporting of the data.
If there is no data, the only possibility is that the Montiro Hits is false, but this is not the default and is unlikely.
If there is data, check the aggregationlevel field and the timestamp of the data, and create a report for this period and aggregation level. For example, if the aggregation level is "q" generate a quarterly report for the time period.

I am using ORACLE.
Actually the iview is the standard par iview, so i have created it from the "iview from Par" and that too in my test server seperately. I have created a new folder and under it i have created this new iview from Par. I have taken the com.sap.km.activityreport.frontend. and under this the activity report component.
I have also restarted the Data collection service. Other than these I did not do any other configurations. Any thing else is required?

Hi,
you really shouldn't access SAP portal db tables. These tables and the structure can change and SAP won't communicate this. This will give you more controll about the reports, as more data is collected.
The data stored in the DB tables for the PAR are only aggregated data. If you need more detailed data, the PAR data won't help you. In fact, what can be displayed with the PAR data in the DB, can be achieved with the PAR reports.
If you need to generate your own activity reports, you should considre using the other possibilities delivered with SAP Portal, like the Activity Data Collector:

No data in Portal Database tables for Activity Report

Hi experts,
I've developed an Activity Report application in SAP Portal 7.0, which went live but the report shows no data.
We are pulling data from 2 portal database tables: WCR_WEBCONTENTSTAT and WCR_USERPAGEUSAGE
In non production environment there is data in the report but there is no data in the production environment.
The Activity Report service is already activated/started and set to true.
What could have caused this? And what should we check now?
What other configurations/setup should be done?

Hi Greg,
Those are the aggregated tables. If they are not filled with data although the Portal Activity Report is activated, you should check whether the aggregation finished successfully.
In the older SPs there were some problems that were fixed in later SPs of 7.0.
In order to have the latest version of Portal Activity report, you can check SAP note 1084379 - Portal Activity Report - Latest Version (SDA file).
You can compare the SP via the MANIFAST file, as it contains the version and SP number.
In order to troubleshoot problems in Activity Report, you can follow SAP note: 1690023 - Portal Activity Report - Component-specific Note
Some basic checks that you can do:
Run query on the raw data tables to check since when there is data in those tables:
select min(timestamphour) from SAP<SystemID>DB.WCR_WEBCNODESTAT;
If there is too much data from long time ago, then you should delete the old data, and leave only the new data (there is anyways retention time for the data to be kept).
If there is no data, then it means that the Portal Activity Report does not collect data, and not really activated (usually this is not the case).
The aggregation runs every top of the hour, so you can check in the default traces for an error during that time.
In most of the cases something went wrong while aggregating the data.
As a result the aggregation is not finished, so the transaction is not being committed, and the aggregated tables stay empty.
If there is a DuplicateKeyException in the trace, you can follow SAP note 1054145 - Duplicate Key Exception.
