OracleAS R2 - Cluster Mixed Solaris SPARC/x86?

Is a mixed Solaris SPARC/x86 active-active cluster environment supported for OracleAS R2? What I mean by this is, can I put together a supported environment where an Identity Management node (node 1) is running as SPARC, and a second Identity Management node (node 2) is running Solaris x86?
Both OS's would be as identically configured as possible (both OS version & patch levels).
Cheers, Brad

Metalink note 429995.1
Says
Goal
Is it supported to install Application Server Oracle Homes on different operating systems or different versions of the same operating system?
Example 1: AS Infrastructure is installed on a Solaris 8 server and a Business Intelligence and Forms Middle Tier is installed on a Solaris 10 server.
Example 2: AS Infrastructure is installed on a Red Hat linux server and Business Intelligence and Forms Middle Tiers are installed on Windows 2003 servers.
Solution
It is completely supported to install each Application Server oracle home onto a different operating system or onto different versions of the same operating system.
Both of the above example scenarios are supported.
The only restriction is that members of a Middle-tier DCM-Managed OracleAS Cluster must be on the same operating system 'flavour'. As per the High Availability Guide:
All Oracle Application Server instances that are to be members of a DCM-Managed OracleAS Cluster must be installed on the same flavour operating system. For example, different variants of UNIX are clusterable together, but they are not clusterable with Windows systems.

I'm not sure with the solaris sparc 64.
but the most common problem with Linux x86_64 which I assume probably similar. that type of error caused by
you have to install glibc-devel-32 bit and libstdc++-devel 32 bit together with your 64 bit. both libraries required by the Oracle to solve the linking problem.

  • How can I install Oracle Database 10g for Solaries (SPARC) from the console

    Dear Forum Members,

    If yes. Then How?
If anyone have the exact solution, then I need your feedback. I shall wait for your reply.

How to install Oracle software remotely?
Remote Software Installation Steps: (For Solaris only)
If you want to install Oracle Software remotely, you should perform the following steps. These steps are applicable only if your source and target machine are running Unix.
For example, you can install Oracle Software from your home from Washington, DC to a target source in California.
    1. Pick your source server or machine for remote installation.
    2. Check that your CD is in your source CD-ROM drive.
    3. On the target machine, find your target machine name with the output of the /usr/bin/hostname
    4. On the source machine, login as a user.
    5. On the source machine, enable client access: % /usr/openwin/bin/xhost + target-machine-name
    6. Become root user by typing: su (don’t use -)
    7. Check that Volume Manger is running. # ps –ef |grep vold (if you see an entry that contains /usr/sbin/vold, Volume Manager is running. Then skip to Step 10.
    8. If not then do the following: # mkdir –p /cdrom/your-cd-file-name
    9. # mount –F hsfs –r cdrom-device /cdrom/your-cd-file-name
    10. Add the following line to your /etc/dfs/dfstab file: # share –F nfs –o ro /cdrom/your-cd-file-name
    11. Verify whether your source machine is an NFS server: # ps –ef | grep nfsd
    12. If you see an entry that contains /use/lib/nfs/nfsd –a 16, then nfsd is running and skip to Step 16.
    13. If nfsd is running, then type: # /usr/sbin/shareall
    14. If nfsd is not running, then start nfsd by typing: # /etc/init.d/nfs.server start
    15. Verify whether your source machine is an NFS server again by typing: # ps –ef | grep nfsd
    16. Make sure your source machine is exporting your product directory by typing: # /usr/sbin/dfshares
    17. Now, log in to the target machine by type: # rlogin target-machine-name –l user (not root)
    18. Then log in as the root user by typing: # su
    19. Go to the source machine by typing: # cd /net/source-machine/cdrom/your-cd-file-name ,then Skip to 24.
    20. If you cannot change to that directory in Step 19 and you do not have an auto-mounter on your network, then create amount point by typing the following commands.
    21. # mkdir /remote_products
    22. # /usr/sbin/mount –F nfs –r source-machine:/cdrom/your-cd-file-name /remote_products
    23. # cd /remote_products
    24. Redirect the target machine display to source machine by typing: # DISPLAY=source-machine:0; export DISPLAY (if you use a Bourne or Korn shell).
    25. Start the Web Start Installer by typing: # ./installer (or whatever the installer name program is).

  • Oracle 10g Installation nn solaris 10 X86

I have installed Oralce 10.1.0.3 in Solaris 10 X86 using the procedure given without creating the database.(Installing the binaries)
    Hardware:Sun fire V20z.
When i tried creating Database using DBCA,it was throwing lots of error.
    The errors are:
    1) ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
    2) ORA-03114: not connected to oracle
    3) ORA-27100: shared memory realm already exists.
Oracle says nothing to do with Oracle 10g,Check the OS.
Any help on creating a database in Solaris 10 x86 Oracle 10.1.0.3
    Thanks in Advance.

    check your /etc/system and init.ora
did you set up kernel parameters for oracle in /etc/system?
    something like this:
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=0xffffffff
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmin=1
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=4096
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmseg=100
    set semsys:seminfo_semmni=4096
    set semsys:seminfo_semmsl=4096
    set semsys:seminfo_semmns=1000
    set semsys:seminfo_semopm=100
    set semsys:seminfo_semvmx=32767
    the interesting parameter is
set shmsys:shminfo_shmseg=100 - that is maximum amount of oracle processes system can have, if you have something like processes=150 in init.ora, database won't start.
read oracle installation manual on how to set these parameters for a particular machine and database

  • Flash Player 11 for Solaris Sparc/x86 has been released.

Since the OpenSolaris Desktop Discussion forum is no more I'll post this here.
The permissions and ownership need to be checked.
If that still doesn't help then exit Firefox, goto the profile directory and find pluginreg.dat.
Open the file and remove the lines for Flash Player.
If that doesn't work then create a temporary profile and use it and then go back to your original profile.
    Fun stuff.
Does anyone know of a new equivalent for this page:

    Hi.
    Are You read documentation ?
Guidelines for the /globaldevices File System
Oracle Solaris Cluster software offers two choices of locations to host the global-devices namespace:
    A lofi device
A dedicated file system on one of the local disks
This section describes the guidelines for using a dedicated partition. This information does not apply if you instead host the global-devices namespace on a lofi.
The /globaldevices file system is usually located on your root disk. However, if you use different storage on which to locate the global-devices file system, such as a Logical Volume Manager volume, it must not be part of a Solaris Volume Manager shared disk set or part of a VxVM disk group other than a root disk group. This file system is later mounted as a UFS cluster file system. Name this file system /globaldevices, which is the default name that is recognized by the scinstall(1M) commandSo:
    >I have mounted one (1) common 2gb LUN for both the nodes, so it is creating the problem...?
    It source of problem.
Every node require have it's own separate slice for globaldevice.
Shared Lun can be mounted with option global for access from both nodes at same time, but it will be second step - configure data-services.

  • How to Reorganize CSM200 Shared Storage in Solaris 10 x86 Oracle 10gR2

I could use some guidance from those who are more experienced in RAC administration in a Solaris environment with ASM. I have a three-node RAC with Oracle 10gR2 instances on top of Solaris 10 x86 where the shared storage is a Sun CSM200 disk array which looks like a single disk to the rest of the world. I'm not very familiar with the CSM200 Common Array Manager but I do have access to use it.
During initial setup, I followed the Oracle cookbook and defined a storage slice for each of the following: OCR, OCR mirror, three voting disks, and +DATA, for a total of six slices. I brought up the RAC and we've used it for a couple of weeks.
This is a Dev and QA environment, so it changes pretty fast. The new requirement is to add a +FRA and to add a mount point for a file system on the shared storage, so that all three Oracle instances can refer to the same external table(s).
However, I've already used all the available slices in the VTOC on the shared logical drive. I'm not sure how to proceed.
    1) Is it necessary to use the CAM to create two logical disks out of the single existing logical disk?
    2) If so, how destructive is that? I don't need to keep the contents of the database, but I do not want to reinstall CRS or ASM or the DB instances.
    3) Is it possible to combine the OCR and its mirror on the same slice, thus freeing a slice for reuse?
    4) Is it possible to combine all three voting disks on the same slice, thus freeing two slices for reuse?
    Edited by: user12006221 on Mar 29, 2011 3:30 PM
Another question: Under 10.2.0.4, is it possible for the OCR and voting disks to be managed by ASM? I know it would be possible under 11g, but that's not an option as I am trying to match a customer's environment and they aren't going to 11g any time real soon.

What you see is what happens when the Java runtime running on Solaris 10 x86 tries to load a library which is compiled for SPARC.
Because of the native parts in SAP GUI for Java, compilations and installers are required for each OS - HW combination.
The supported platforms can be seen in SAP note 954572. For Solaris only SPARC is currently supported.
Because of the effort needed for compiling, testing, support etc. it is required to focus on OS - HW combinations widely used on desktop machines and Solaris 10 on x86 currently does not seem to be one of those.

  • Oracle 8i/9i on Solaris x86[Intel]...

    Hello All,
I would like to know if Oracle 8i or 9i is available for Solaris Intel [x86] version. Its there for the SPARC platform. It would be nice if anyone could let me know about this. I need it to practise for my OCA/OCP exams....
Thanking you'll. Kindly email me on [email protected]
    Best Wishes,

A part the risk that instance crash can lead to validated transaction loss, Oracle 8i can run without no problems on Solaris 2.6 intel (I really found this problem on 2.7 but I think it exists also on 2.6)

Oracle Instant Client was a "feature" introduced with Oracle 10g. There is no 9i version.
Code that links with Oracle 9i libraries should be able to be linked with Instant Client 10gR2.
The resulting application will be able to connect to databases from Oracle 8.1 onwards.

  • Migration from Solaris Sparc server to Solaris  x86

    Hi ,
    I would like to know.
Migration from SAP ECC6 , Oracle , Solaris Sparc to Ecc6, Oracle, Solaris x86 , Is this consider Heterogeneous or Homogeneous system copy?
    Thanks.
    Best Regards,
    ck chai

Solaris on SPARC is a BIgEndian platform, Solaris on X86 is LittleEndian - so it's heterogeneous --> you need to use R3load to performa a migration - and you need to have a certified migration consultant on-site to do that migration (http://service.sap.com/osdbmigration --> FAQ).
