OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-in disappears from Excel?

I left to work on something else (Word, web browsing, emailing), for 30mins or so, when I returned to my Excel the add-in disappeared. Right-clicking on any cell didn't give me the add-in either.
This has happened to me a few times.
Has anyone got this experience?
djoni

Hi Djoni
Does Oracle people monitor this forum?
Hmmm, do you really want Oracle answering questions in here? The last time anyone from Oracle really made any significant contributions was quite some time ago. Then the most typical reply would be to point you to a section in one of their on-line manuals.
Actually, Oracle do monitor these forums. However, because of the experience that people such as Rod, Russ and myself have, Oracle is more than happy for us to field the answers. We all have real-world experience of using the tool you see.
Best wishes

  • Creating automatically "OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-In" files (Excel files)

I have the necessity of create automatically an excel file with a query to a multidimensional model (ROLAP Cube). It exists any API for a programation language that makes easy this process of creation?
How "OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-In" saves the metadata in the excel file, for example, the information about the database (host name, database name), dimensions and measures selected by the user when a query is made with the "Query Builder"?
It is possible to share any information about this subject?
    Thanks!!!
    Rui Torres

I exported to xml an excel file with a query, that was produced by the “Query Builder”, and it is true that the metadata that contains the information about the database, dimensions and measures selected, is specified in xml and is stored in hidden sheets.
My problem is not to create an excel file (create sheets, write in the cells,...) because it exists some apis that do this kind of operations.
My difficulty, is to produce the xml metadata, that is defined by Oracle, and contains the information that is used by "OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-In" to put the data in the cells of an excel sheet.
What I want to know is, for example, if exists any kind of function that receives the name of the host, the name of the database, the owner of the cube, the cube name and all the options that we can choose in the “Query Builder” (measures and dimensions that we want, the disposition of the dimensions - layout), and return a String with the Oracle’s xml metadata.
With this xml metadata that is returned, I am prepared to create an excel file, that have the functionality of to connect to a database, and get the data that is stored in it.
    Thanks!!!

  • "OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-In" – bug on the page items

I detected that "OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-In" has a bug on the page items. It occurs when I have more than one page item. What happens is that all the page items (except the first), don’t permit to select other values. This is, I can click in the ComboBox, I can see the values that the ComboBox contains and I can select a value of the ComboBox. When I select other value, the add-in executes the query (it refreshes the sheet), but the value of the combo is not modified, and the values of the facts aren’t also modified. (The query that is done is the same)
But if I change the layout, and put the page item in the first position, the value of the ComboBox is modified and a new query is executed.
I am using only ROLAP cubes.
The version of the database is 10.1.0.4.0.
I did an upgrade from 10.1.0.2.0 to 10.1.0.4.0.
The version of "OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-In” is:
    Release 1 version 10.1.2.0.0 - (build 10.1.2.0.36)
When is done a new version of "OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-In”, without this bug?
    Regards,
    Rui Torres

The metadata is ok according to “Oracle Enterprise Manager Website”.
The version of Excel that I use is:
    Microsoft Office Excel 2003 (11.5612.5606).
But is very stranger that the first page item works perfectly and the others have a bad behaviour, isn’t it?

The error message is written in Portuguese. I don't understand why the message is in Portuguese, if the WindowsXp and the MsExcel 2003 are English versions.
    What is the problem??

Note, if you installed the previous version from OTN, you can just install the new version in the same directory, and your connections and preferences will be preserved.

  • OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-in can only be in one Excel instance only?

    Hi everyone
Is it true that we can have the add-in in one Excel instance only?
(when I started my 2nd Excel, the OracleBI menu does not show up)
    djoni

    Hi
Yes, I'm afraid that is true. Sorry about that. Please don't shoot the messenger. If you don't like this approach taken by Oracle you need to raise this as a service request and ask if this can be added as an enhancement request.
Before you do you might want to fully check out this posting: http://oraclebi.blogspot.com/2006/09/spreadsheet-add-in-refreshing-multiple.html
You might also want to pose this question to the owner of that blog. They are good guys (yes, I know them) and will give you an answer if one is available.

  • Excel Addin and SmartView disappear from excel

    Hi There,
We use Excel 2007, Excel Addin and SmartView have been working fine, but it "disappear" from the ribbon or menu all of sudden, I check Excel Addin, it shows Essexcln and Oracle Hyperoin SmartView for office under "Active Application Add-ins".
    Any advice?
    Thanks

I had the same issue once. It turned out that some SAP query addins did not get along with essbase add-in and bullied it out of the playgroud. You might want to check on that.

We are using SmartView 11.2.2.2.000 with Excel 2010.  The SmartView tab frequently disappears from the Excel menu, especially for one particular user.  Each time I walk him thru re-enabling it.  This user's files are usually multiple sheets.  Anyone know why this keeps happening and is there a permanent way to fix it?

  • OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-in Not Working With ROLAP TIME Dimension

    Hello,
I've been trying to figure this bizarre behavior for a while now.
I have created a TIME dimension (based on a relational table) using OEM and defined the metadata etc. My hierarchy has 4 levels: day->month->quarter->year. I have end_date and time_span attributes defined for each level. I have defined a simple cube dimensioned by TIME and having only 1 numeric measure.
When I open BI Spreadsheet Add-in, I can see my cube measure and the dimension in the list of available entities. I add them to the list of selected entities and hit 'next'. On the next screen I arrange them to my liking and hit 'next' again. This is where the problem occurs. Or rather where nothing occurs. The add-in just gets stuck at this point and no matter what I do or click, it won't advance to the next step.
If I change the dimension type from time to normal, then everything works as expected (although, I cannot do time-series analysis).
If I create and enable an analytic workspace and use it in the add-in, then everything works as expected as well.
Any ideas what's wrong here? I kind of suspect the end_date and time_span attributes are involved somehow...
    Thanks!
    Dobo

The expected format for a relational time table would be something like the following:
    CREATE TABLE "BIBDEMO"."BIBDEMO_TIME"
    ("TIME_STD_MONTH" VARCHAR2(30),
    "TIME_STD_MONTH_LLABEL" VARCHAR2(60),
    "TIME_STD_MONTH_SLABEL" VARCHAR2(30),

  • Slicers in reports disappeared from Excel Web Access sites

Yesterday all slicers disappeared from all reports published on Sharepoint online (Excel Webb Access).
The reports are working fine as long as named range isn't used.
Any one experiencing the same issue? Solutions?
    Thanks
    Ben

We're seeing the same thing. On Wednesday, all of our slicers were there, and on Thursday they were gone. Same for all of our clients who use slicers on SharePoint Online (Office 365 Enterprise) as well. We have a ticket in with Microsoft support and are
currently trying to reach one of their SharePoint Online engineers.

  • Add column comments from excel spreadsheet

Is there a way to add descriptions that are captured in excel spreadsheets into a relational model's tables and columns? Would it need to be a transformation script or is there another way? Does anyone have a sample of how to do this?

I use excel all the time to do this since it's easy for me. basically what I do is get everything I need down. Then I use excel to build the sql. I'll add a column with comment on column and other column with the table name with a period. I assume I've got the column name in one excel column and the comment in another. So I'll put a column between the column name and the comment and put in is'. Then after the comment I'll put in ';. Once that's done I load it into a text editor drop all the unnecessary spaces save it and run it.
Do this with a lot of things. Dump the stuff I need out of the data dictionary or where ever. save it in excel and then do the same trick

  • J2EE Add In Disappeared from MMC in BI7

    Hi Experts:
I am hoping that one of you have encountered such a case before.
Essentially, we had installed NW2004s Business Intelligence System.
    We first installed ABAP
    Created Client 100
Installed Java Add In for Client 100
After installation everything worked and was green.
However, when I bounced the system all the Java stuff seems to have disappeared.
It is as if that Java was never installed .  MMC is showing all green but there are no Java processes in it.
I can see all the java data, but java is still not loading
I gather that one of the profiles is not correct and as far as that profile is concerned there is no Java.

  • 10.2.8 Fonts Disappeared from Excel

Installed the update several days ago, on one of my hard drive backups. No problems noted. Upon waking from sleep and opening an Excel file today, all the fonts that had been in use have disappeared, and have reverted to Silom. The font in use had been Courier CT. The font was used several times after the install, with Excel.
Some others have also disappeared, as the listed fonts has become shorter, I'm thinking by about 5-6 fonts.
Other than this, things appear abit snappier.

    Hi Keith,
quit Office, navigate to /Users/Your_Name/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/ and delete the file called "Office Font Cache (11)". Now try again.

  • Book on oraclebi spreadsheet add-in

Does anyone know if there's any commercial book (not manual, readme, online help) specifically covering the add-in?
    djoni

The metadata is ok according to “Oracle Enterprise Manager Website”.
The version of Excel that I use is:
    Microsoft Office Excel 2003 (11.5612.5606).
But is very stranger that the first page item works perfectly and the others have a bad behaviour, isn’t it?

  • My add-ons disappeared from my toolbar when I downloaded Firefox 17 for AOL. How can I get them back on my toolbar?

I can find all of my add-ons when I click on the Firefox icon on the upper left of my screen and click on add-ons, but they no longer appear on my toolbar where I can click on them and use them with the file I'm working in. They are useless to me now. I disabled the AOL toolbar for one session and the add-ons didn't show up. When I click on the edit buttion on the AOL toolbar, I don't see where I can add the Firefox add-ons. How can I get them back onto my toolbar?

    Hi,
You can try to right-click the + after the last tab > [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-customize-toolbars Customize], and drag and drop the required icons. Alternatively you may also be able to include the icons via the '''Options''' in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Add-ons''' > '''Extensions'''.
    [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Customizing%20Firefox%20with%20add-ons Add-ons]
    [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Using%20extensions%20with%20Firefox Using extensions]
If there are problems, you can try deleting the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Localstore.rdf localstore.rdf] file in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder Firefox Profile Folder] after exiting Firefox, and then do the customization.
To open the profile folder via Firefox: '''Help''' ('''Alt''' + '''H''') > '''Troubleshooting Information''' > '''Show Folder'''.

  • Oracle BI Spreadsheet Add-In

    Hi.
I'm trying to download OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-In 10g from
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/bi/spreadsheet_addin/download/download.html
but I cannot get the links after accepting the License Agreement.
When I do this in Internet Explorer, I receive java Script Error and in any other browsers, like Firefox or Chrome sipmply nothing happens.

    Hi,
I can reproduce the issue as I cannot download any of the two files -- Oracle has to fix the two links.
    Thanks,
    Hussein
