Oracleservice SID windows service
Actually I want to start database manually so how can I start the oracleservice<sid> from services panel and run the startup command as sys user manually from sql prompt?
Currently the service is manual but when I start it manually it starts the database. I don't want it to start database instead I want to start it myself from sql prompt.
Please suggest the way. Thanks.
You should probably use the documented ORADIM tool to change services' start mode.
E.g.
C:\>oradim -edit -sid xe -startmode manual
This way you may get the "idle instance", which seem to be what you are looking for.
C:\>set oracle_sid=xe
C:\>sqlplus / as sysdba
SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production on To Maj 7 08:38:05 2009

Connected to an idle instance.

In wich order do I have to start the windows services for 10g?
Hello,
can anybody tell me in wich order I have to start the services for oracle under windows?
OracleDBConsole<sid>
OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListner
OracleService<sid>
OracleJobScheduler<sid> ... seems like I don't need this service at all - now all sevices
are running except this one and Oracle is working.
I don't want to start the services automatically anymore cause starting the engine takes so much time.
Greetz
TorstenThink about what's happening ...
When the database starts up, it will want to self-register with the listener, so you might want to have the listener up first, though it's required
When the dbconsole starts, it will want to connect with the database, so .... -
Excel Automation with Interop - Windows Service - Microsoft Excel cannot access the file
I have a windows console application, which automates Excel. In our scenario the application gets called from a Windows Service. If the console app is executed directly everything works fine. If the console app is executed through the Win Service, we get
the following error when trying to open the excel file:
Unhandled exception Occured : 'Microsoft Excel cannot access the file 'bla.xls'. There are several possible reasons:
The file name or path does not exist.
The file is being used by another program.
The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a currently open workbook.'.'
The code snippet used to open the file:
xlApp = new Application();xlApp.Visible = false;xlApp.UserControl = false;xlApp.Application.ScreenUpdating = false;xlApp.DisplayAlerts = false;xlWorkbook = xlApp.Workbooks.Open( Filename: filePath, UpdateLinks: 2, IgnoreReadOnlyRecommended: true, Editable: false);
The console app and windows service are running on a Win Server 2008 64-bit OS with Excel 2013 32-bit installed. The service is running with a special user account, which has all the right permissions on accessed files and folders. The excel process is also
started with the same account (I cheched that one).
I already tried to do the following, but to no avail:
Run excel.exe /automation -> worked fine
Created the folders and also gave full control to the account under which the service is run (even gave full control to Everyone)
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\systemprofile\Desktop
C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\Desktop
Configured DCOM
Excel Application -> Identity -> Specific user account
Excel Application -> Identity -> Interactive User
Excel Application -> Security -> Launch permissions -> Everyone full control
Several combinations of the above
So I really am stuck with this problem right now. Any input on this is appreciated.I have a windows console application, which automates Excel. In our scenario the application gets called from a Windows Service. If the console app is executed directly everything works fine. If the console app is executed through the Win Service, we get
the following error when trying to open the excel file
Microsoft does not currently recommend, and does not support, Automation of Microsoft Office applications from any unattended, non-interactive client application or component (including ASP, ASP.NET, DCOM, and NT Services), because Office
may exhibit unstable behavior and/or deadlock when Office is run in this environment.
If you are building a solution that runs in a server-side context, you should try to use components that have been made safe for unattended execution. Or, you should try to find alternatives that allow at least part of the code to run client-side.
If you use an Office application from a server-side solution, the application will lack many of the necessary capabilities to run successfully. Additionally, you will be taking risks with the stability of your overall solution.
You can read more about that in the
Considerations for server-side Automation of Office article. -

If you see your logs, you server has actually started in "RUNNING" mode. Its only throwing lot of "ClassNotFoundException" because I guess they classes are not available in classpaths. If you know the "jar" which contains which are being complained, copy the jar files to "DOMAIN_HOME/lib" which is simple way to add jars to classpath.

Creating the Windows Service for the Database Instance
Hello, I am using the PeopleTools 8.52 Installation for Oracle documentation and was in Task 6A-2: Creating the Windows Service for the Database Instance.
After I type in
oradim -new -sid ORCL -intpwd manager -startmode auto -pfile C:\Oracle\database\initORCL.ora
I had encountered these errors:
OPW-00005: File with same name exists - please delete or rename
DIM-00019: create service error
O/S-Error: (OS 1073) The specified service already exists.
Please advise.... Thank you in advance!Hi, thank you for your reply!
After I typed oradim -delete -sid ORCL, it shows this:
Unable to stop service, OS Error = 1062
Instance deleted.
Then, I:
Set ORACLE_SID=ORCL
oradim -new -sid ORCL -intpwd manager -startmode auto -pfile C:\Oracle\database\initORCL.ora
Then, it shows:
OPW-00005: Files with same name exists - please delete or rename
Instance created.
Does it mean no error already and I can proceed? -

Windows service does not stop when DB is shutdown from SQL*Plus
I have a 11g XE DB in a Windows 7 machine.
The installation has created a Windows service called OracleServiceXE. It's status is STARTED.
I then login to SQLPLUS as sysdba and do a shutdown immediate;
SQL> shutdown immediate
Database closed.
Database dismounted.
ORACLE instance shut down.
Problem is, when I refresh the services, the OracleServiceXE is still showing as STARTED.
If I use the listener control to stop the listener the Windows service OracleXETNSListener changes status to BLANK.
Why is this?tvCa-Oracle wrote:
That service is a prerequisite Windows service to be able to start the database, but it is not the status of the database itself.
When you do start the database, he may or may not start the service automatically (not sure there), but it is a needed service, for each database SID, on Windows.
If you want to know what it is, open Task Manager or Process Explorer, only start the service (not the database), and see which OS process is launched.
AFAIK, this is only on Windows, there's no comparable component on Linux/Unix for this.
The Windows service OracleServiceXE has c:\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\bin\ORACLE.EXE XE as the Parth to executable.
If I click on the Services tab in Task manager, then right-click the OracleServiceXE and click Go to process, it show the oracle.exe in the processes tab.
If stop it, the service, from the Windows service control, the oracle.exe disappears and we cannot login to the DB.
If we start the service from the windows service control, the oradim.exe appears, then a second later the oracle.exe appears. Once the DB status of the Windows service is STARTED, the oradim.exe disappears.
So, I can start and stop the oracle DB with the Windows service. But If I stop the DB from sql*plus the the service is not stopped.... -
Question about oradim and windows services
Hello.
I have a db instance on my W-XP Pro machine that was created with this command:
oradim -new -sid <my_sid> -startmode m -pfile <my_pfile>
Since the creation I only used to need to start the windows service in order to work with the db.
I decided to delete the instance.
oradim -delete -sid <my_sid>
Afterwards I recreated the instance:
oradim -new -sid <my_sid> -startmode m -pfile <my_pfile>
And now I have this strange situation:
First I need to start the windows service (although it does not startup the db) and then starting the db with sqlplus.
Would it be possible restoring to the initial situation?
Thanks in advance.Did you tried changing the database startup as Auto
oradim -edit -sid <my_sid> -startmode auto -SRVCSTART
systemThanks.
Although the above solution is working ok, I am also trying your solution but it seems there must be a syntax error:
D:\>oradim -edit -sid <my_sid> -startmode auto -SRVCSTART system
DIM-00036: Ha introducido una opci¾n no vßlida para el comando -DELETE
D:\>oradim -edit -sid <my_sid> -startmode a -SRVCSTART system
DIM-00003: Falta un argumento para el parßmetro
(I am sorry but I do not understand all the oradim options). -
Starting OracleService SID does not open database (8.1.7)
Moved our 8.1.7 db from server A to server B yesterday. On server B, when the service OracleService<SID> starts, it does not open the database. When I connect through svrmgrl and startup with the same pfile the database opens. I have deleted the service and recreated it to no avail. The -pfile path is correct. The service runs as local system.
Any ideas on how to correct the issue?
btw - yes - I'm aware of the support status on 8.1.7 - and we are upgrading to 10g in ~6 months - but meanwhile I need this to work.......tiaHi Ugonic
Moved our 8.1.7 db from server A to server B yesterday. On server B, when the >>service OracleService<SID> starts, it does not open the databaseI don't mean any disrespect but I always thought that ORADIM -a or AUTO is for "The Service Itself" whereas in this case COOKEJ is able to start the OracleServiceSID but unable to open the associated database.
Please correct me if my understanding is wrong.

Financial Reports WIndows Service(s) missing?
I'm trying to install Oracle EPM version 11.1.2.1, and I'm pretty far along, but this seems weird. Everything is installed and configured, but I have no Windows service(s) for FR on the services tier server.
Looking at the startup order in the Installation and Configuration Guide, I see Financial Reporting Services listed just before Financial Reporting application server. I assume this is what used to be the 4 services on the services tier server that have been consolidated to 2, but I don't see any.
I double-checked the installer, and I have no check box under the 'Services' tier heading for FR, and no "Financial Reporting Services" item listed when I go into "choose individually." This seems wrong, but I'm not sure. I re-downloaded all 13 files from e-delivery that are flagged as necessary in the Readme. Still, nothing.
Print server is installed with the FR client, evidently? Is it not a server-side service anymore? Or is it now OK to install the FR client on the same machine that the server is on, which used to cause problems?
Thanks for your consideration,
-- JoeHi Joe,
Can you provide a link to the documentation you are reviewing and make sure it is for 11.1.2.1 version?
There are two services for FR - the Financial Reporting Web Service and the Financial Reporting Print Service. That is all that you should need.
For information on how to configure the print service check here,
http://epm-errors.blogspot.com/2012/01/configuring-financial-reporting-print.html
It is a server side component that they decided to bundle with the client installer... It's a bit strange to me.
Thanks

DB not open, with Windows Service
I have created a new database (10gR2 in W2k3) with the assistant. If I restart the Window's service or restarting the server, the Window's service looks started, but the state real of the DB is close. Then, for go to state open, I'm that execute to startup from sqlplus console. Why not works finely the Windows Service?
If you feel confident in doing this, open regedit and go here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ORACLE/<your oracle installation home name>
Then check that the following keys are set as shown:
ORA_<your SID>_AUTOSTART = TRUE
ORA_<your SID>_SHUTDOWN = TRUE
ORA_<your SID>_SHUTDOWNTYPE = immediate
With those settings, your instance should startup and shutdown properly whenever the service is started or stopped. Reboot after any changes are made. -
Hi there,
I would like to put the startsap and stopsap as a windows service, how can I do that?
Regards,
WaldeHi here an example for a bat ( you can insert in startup ) or cmd to add as a windows service so you don't need to logon to server.
where d: is the disk of your USR dir
R3T is the SID
nr is system number
SAPDIAHOST is the hostaname of your machine.
to install as a service you can use NTSCMGR command
@echo off
d:
cd \usr\sap\r3t\sys\exe\run
startsap name=R3T nr=00 SAPDIAHOST=saptest
pls reward if this help you.

Live Encoder as a windows service
Can Live server be ran as a windows service?
FMLE is typically used on the client side, and it doesn't have any sort of API that you would use to run it as a service. That said, unless you wanted to publish a camera that is connected to the server, I'm not sure why you'd want to run FMLE as a service.
Perhaps if you explain what is is you want to accomplish.... -
Adobe Reader XI (11.0.08) doesn't create thumbnail (bitmap) using Microsoft Interface IExtractImage --> Extract on Windows Server 2008 R2, when exe to generate thumbnail is launched from Windows service.
But if exe is launched as standalone, then interface IExtractImage --> Extract, gives Bitmap to generate thumbnail of PDF document.
Above problem occurs only for PDF documents, if we tried same with other software like CAD -CATIA it works without any problem.
Is there any security concerns form PDF side, which doesn't allow to generate Bitmaps, if exe to generate it is launched form Windows service. It might be deliberate, Acrobat and Reader software is not intended to run in a service environment.
