    Hi,
I am having the same problem posted in the thread. I read through the help and have tried to start all the processes, and then one at a time, but it has not helped. I still get the same error shown below. Besides a complete uninstall and reinstall of Oracle, is there anything I can do to fix this problem?
Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Oralce 10g R1 - Ora-12541  after  updating Windows 2003

    Hi Experts
We are using Oralce 10g On Windows 2003. Today we have virus problem and we removed virus and did "Windows update"
Now when trying to open the sql getting error "Ora-12545"
    Kindly check and help urgently.

    HI
    THnaks for reply,
But i did not change any parameter at allMaybe you didn't knowingly change any parameters, but you are running this on Windows. To paraphrase Forest Gump, "My momma always said Windows is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you are going to get." My team and I just finished spending three hours of troubleshooting an application when "we didn't change anything" -- except that a Windows update was pushed to the app server ....
If Oracle says "target host does not exist", I'd take Oracle's word for it.
So how do you go about chasing down ora-12541? Start with your names resolution - usually tnsnames. What is listed for the HOST= parameter of the entry in question? Is it listed as a server name or ip address? Can you ping it?
    From the client machine please
    1) show us the contents of your tnsnames.ora file
    2) open a command prompt (cmd.exe)
    3) give the command "set | sort"
    4) give the command "tnsping <mysid>", where "<mysid>" is the tnsnames entry used to identify the database.
Copy all of the above - commands AND responses, and paste it back here.
Kindly check and help urgentlyWe can't check. After all it's your system. All we can do is suggest what you should check.
And there is no "urgent" here. This is a forum of peer volunteers.
"Urgent" means one of two things -
    1) people are dying, or
    2) you have a customer-facing, revenue-producing production system that is down.
(And to get some perspective on the second case, keep the first in mind.)
For the first, you call whatever civil emergency service seems appropriate.
For the second, you open an SR with Oracle - which requires a paid-up support contract. For them to consider your problem "urgent", you will need to demonstrate that your problem falls under item #2.
You don't have a support contract? Now you know the exact dollar figure that your company places on the data.

  • Moving Infrastructure Database

My current environment for development is a Sun V480, dual cpu, with 4 GB ram. It is running three instances (10.1.0.3), html db and an application server (10G - 9.0.4) that is running both infrastructure and mid-tier and the infrastructure database (asdb). Since the machine is hovering at 93% memory utilization I was wanting to merge together some of the database instances to save overhead. Merging the 3 10G instances together into two instances ( "dev" and "test") is not a problem since I know who the application owners/users are, but I would also like to include the asdb in one of those instances.
My question is what owners from the asdb do I need to export/import, and what settings within the app server do I need to update to point to the new infrastructure database? Hopefully, I will not have to uninstall/reinstall the entire app server as there are several existing applications using it. I would like to preserve the OID information (users, groups, databases) in the asdb also.

There have been a number of stability issues with the installation. I thought we could do the following (provided the database version and machine OS version are the same on both machines):
    # Take a cold backup of the database (A)
    # Install a new machine with fresh IAS installation (B)
    # Copy the backup files on machine (B)
    # Restore the cold backup like a normal cold backup,
    # Run the 2 databases in parallel
    * The new infrastructure installation
    * The backup of the (A) database
    # Modify the configuration such that the infrastructure uses the portal repository of the backup (A).
    # Modify the configuration such that the portal repository uses the OID, Webcache and SSO of the new infrastructure (B).

  • No Sample Schemas in OracleAS10g 10.1.2 Infrastructure database

    Hi, all!
I have installed OracleAS10g 10.1.2 Infrastructure instance on Windows 2003 Server by standard installation procedure. I see that Oracle database in that instance have version 10.1.0.3.1. Now I need fresh sample schemas for learning JDeveloper features. But in Infrastructure database I have no sample schemas. On OTN's Oracle10g Database download page I see only version 10.1.0.2 for MS Windows (32-bit). So I have only Sample Schemas from Oracle Database 10g Companion CD Release 1 (10.1.0.2) for Microsoft Windows (32-bit).
Can I use this version of Sample Schemas to install into my Infrastructure Database 10.1.0.3.1?
    With best wishes,
    Igor Shulgin

    I have the same problem.
I located the demo schemas on another machine but when I want to run the script to create them it asks me for the passwords and the metadata script:
specify INPUT metadata import file as parameter 8:
I have no idea where that file is.....
    Can anyone help me?

  • Oracle 10g  is an auto managed database. Why ?

Oracle 10g is an auto managed database. Why ?
I have read that with 10g version, Oracle database will need very less management, since it can be configured to automanage itself. Sounds not believable.
Apart from auto extending tablespaces, what others tasks can be automanaged in Oracle DB 10 G release ?
    Please discuss.

Oracle 10g is obsolete.  Oracle 11g is already at terminal release.
Have you installed the Oracle rdbms software?
Installing Oracle and Building the Database
If you are going to be a professional DBA, you need to learn to
    1) read the documentation
    2) wean yourself from dependence on pictures and GUIs.
    3) read the documentation
    =================================================
Learning how to look things up in the documentation is time well spent investing in your career.  To that end, you should drop everything else you are doing and do the following:
    Go to  docs.oracle.com.
Locate the link for your Oracle product and version, and click on it.
You are now at the entire documentation set for your selected Oracle product and version.
    BOOKMARK THAT LOCATION
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what is available here. Take special note of the "books" and "search" tabs. Under the "books" tab (for 10.x) or the "Master Book List" link (for 11.x) you will find the complete documentation library.
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what kind of documentation is available there by simply browsing the titles under the "Books" tab.
Open the Reference Manual and spend a few minutes looking through the table of contents to get familiar with what kind of information is available there.
Do the same with the SQL Reference Manual.
Do the same with the Utilities manual.
You don't have to read the above in depth.  They are reference manuals.  Just get familiar with what is there to be referenced. Ninety percent of the questions asked on this forum can be answered in less than 5 minutes by simply searching one of the above manuals.
Then set yourself a plan to dig deeper.
    - *Read a chapter a day from the Concepts Manual*.
    - Take a look in your alert log.  One of the first things listed at startup is the initialization parms with non-default values. Read up on each one of them (listed in your alert log) in the Reference Manual.
    - Take a look at your listener.ora, tnsnames.ora, and sqlnet.ora files. Go to the Network Administrators manual and read up on everything you see in those files.
    - *When you have finished reading the Concepts Manual, do it again*.
Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime.

Is it possible to connect Oracle 10g Developer with Oracle 8i database. If possible then plz guide how i can.

with Oracle Developer 10g 9.0.4 is no problem to connect to Oracle 8i.
with Oracle Developer 10g 10.1.2. you need the Patch 8.1.7.4 for 8i, i think.

  • ORA-06553: PLS-908 when calling 10g remote procedure from 11g database

    Hi,
I have 2 instances: 11g (11.1.0.7) and 10g (10.2.0.4). When I try to call 10g (remote) procedure from 11g database, there is errors:
ORA-04052: error occurred when looking up remote object CUSTOMER.PRL_PK2_GENERAL@CUSTOMER_LINK
    ORA-06541: PL/SQL: compilation error - compilation aborted
ORA-06553: PLS-908: The stored format ofCUSTOMER.PRL_PK2_GENERAL@CUSTOMER_LINK is not supported...
But, if I call the same procedure from another 10g instance, it's OK.
How can I fix the problem?
    Thx,
    qtpham

As you can see ,it seems like the workaround that was mentioned there is currently the only way to remove this ORA.
Workaround: Remove the function call(s) from the called subroutine's
                package's spec.

  • Oralce 10g/Forms 10g

    Hello All,
We are currently on Oracle 9i database and forms6i client/server. We plan to migrate our application to the web. Our initial plan was to go to AS 9i release 2/forms9i. A new server has been purchased by our company which will have a lot of space and memory (with around 64 CPU's). But now that the 10g is available my question is:
    1. Is 10g really necessary for us if we are not going to use the grid computing capability? I don't see any good reason for us to migrate to 10g other than it is the latest version.
    2. Will 10g AS/forms 10g work with Oracle 9i database?
    Any help is really appreciated.
    Thanks
    -J

    Hi,
Oracle Application Server 10g is not only for customers that want to use the Grid. Its a further development of teh Application Server and Forms also. The Forms version in 10g is similar to Forms9i but provides management enhancements and functional enhancements. Also Oracle Application Server 10g has a CD that only installs Forms and Reports. I would suggest to move to 10g.
Yes, Forms10g is supposed to work with Oracle9i databases.

If you are running the x64 version of Windows 2003 and not the Itanium version, you will find 10.2.0.1 here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/10201winx64soft.html
You may then patch it to 10.2.0.3 by downloading the patch from Metalink.
