    One update to my query:
I am trying to install Oracle9i for Solaris 8 SPARC version in Solaris 8 in Intel machine. Could it be the reason for this error.
Is Oracle 9i available for Solaris 8 in Intel machine?
    Thanks

    1) Are you including spaces in your path to the Oracle Home? This is a known problem.
    No.
    2) Are you installing into a 9.2 or 10.1 oracle home,
    No.
or allowing a new 10.2 oracle home to be created?
    Yes.
    3) Have you recently installed a JDK on your machine?
Yes, Sun JDK 1.5.0_8. But when I uninstall the jdk and try again, OUI still CRASH at the same step.
The Orcale Home,'D:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1', was created successfully, but nothing in it.

  • 11g R2 wont work under windows 2008 R2 doesnt support UTC, and cant change.

I posted this in error under general, and got no responses. So now Im cutting and pasting it into installation, in a last ditched attemtp to find a way to get a clean installation of oralce on a clean installation of Windows Server 2008 R2 working.
    Problem:
    1) cannt connect to oracle outside of box. Get "TNS Connection timeout occured"
    2) em console "Sepecify Host and Target Database Credentials" always says "Connection refused: connect", even though the OS user/pass and DB user/pass are correct.
    What does work:
    1) I can "select * from dual" using "sqlplus / as sysdba" from the commandline on the box itself.
    2) Once, before I got em console half working, I could connect to the DB from outside the box with SYS as SYSDBA using toad. Now I cant.
    How I installed it:
    1) created a user called "oracle" and put them in the Administrators group.
    2) ran the downloaded installer for enterprise version, partition option chosen, AL32UTF8 char set, global db name: orcl, sid: orcl, "Assert all new security settings on" (No idea what this is) etc.
    3) at the end of the installer it came up with the following error:
"Set the environment variable ORACLE_UNQNAME to the database unique name"
3.5) opened up the incomming connections in the windows FW for 1158 and 1521 TCP from all.
    4) set ORACLE_UNQNAME as a system env var for oracle as "orcl"
    5) set ORACLE_HOME to c:\app\oracle\product\11.2.0 (or should this be c:\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1 ??)
    6) set ORACLE_SID to orcl
    7) set ORACLE_HOST to dilbert (the machine name)
    Rebooted.
    8) logged into em console on https:
dilbert:1158 (works from inside or outside the box).
    9) Entered the oracle windows user userame & pass, and SYS and pass (with connect as SYSDBA). However, it always says "Connectoin refused: connect"
Im not using a domain. computer name is correctly setup as "dilbert" in the OS.
I cant think of anything to try, and dont know how to start debugging this problem.
If I look at the running services, i see:
    OracleDBConsolorcl Stopped
    OracleJobSchedulerORCL Stopped
    OracleMTSRecoveryService Stopped
    OracleOraDb11g_home1CLRAgent stopped
    OracleORADb11g_home1TNSListener Stopped
    OracleServiceORCL Running
    OrclVssWriterORCL Stopped
nd if i try and start those services as oracle (who is in the Administrators group) it says "The operation could not be completed. Access is denied". If I run task manager as Administrator, I can start all of them except for the TNSListener which doesnt do anything, you say start, and it stays stopped. No errors, now warnings. and the JobSchedulreORCL which says no associated devices.
HAving manually started some of the services (no idea if you are supposed to do that, cant find any installation documentation which covers before/after running the installer), when I try and specify the host and target database credentials in em console, it says:
    Validation Error
    Please correct the following error:
dbUserPassword - This field must be specified
However, the DB password for SYS IS specified and correct - so I have no way to fix this.
I cant find anyinformatin online where to look for log files, but there is nothing in sysman\log
Now em console is saying "Conection refused" again, and the following process have killed themselves (as will I soon)
    OracleDBConsolercl Stoppped
The others which I succeded in starting are still running. So TNSListener nor jobscheduler will start, and Consolerocl kills itself after a minute.
Well, looks like I'm on my own on this one. Oracle will not intall on windows, and none seems to have noticed. Doing a day of googling reveals that all the log files which are supposed to live in sysman/log do not exist in this installation, so no help there.
However, I did find an obscure log which says:
The agentTZRegion value in C:\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\wario_orcl/sysman/config/emd.properties is not in agreement with what agent thinks it should be.Please verify your environment to make sure that TZ setting has not changed since the last start of the agent.
The TZ of the windows server is set to "UTC" at long time ago. There is nothing in the oralce windows installation guide to say "Do not use UTC, the most comon server time zone in europe". There is no mention of supported windows timezones.
Now if Oracle doesnt support basic UTC, then we are all in trouble.
There are hundreds of articles with this problem and how to solve it on Unix, but almost none for Windows. Do we have to solve Oracle installation bugs ourselves? Is there no support?
Doing the below reveals that Oracle thinks that UTC is America/Rio_Branco. That HAS to be a bug.
    C:\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\BIN>emctl config agent getTZ
Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g Database Control Release 11.2.0.1.0
Copyright (c) 1996, 2010 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.

    l/sysman/log/emctl.log: Permission denied
    America/Rio_Branco
    So what next?
The list of "supported" timezones in supportedtzs.list only lists UNIX timezones, and NO UTC!!!!!
Googling this turns up nothing - noone on the planet seems to use UTC on their servers. I find this absolutely shocking.
Windows server ONLY users UTC - it doesnt support GMT any more.
So I have to now randomly try timezones in Windows which I dont want, which will be different from all the other servers in the Datacenter. It means all our reports will be out by 1 hour in summer ifI have to chose a timzeone which has daylight savings, compared with all the other databases which are UTC (not daylight savings).
I would expect this from freeware maintained by one person in his garage.
It seems that this Timezone issue emans Oracle will not run on windows.
Tried a lot of things, including setting the timzeonse in windows to be "(UTC) Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, London", which unfortuantely is not UTC (as it is affected by daylight savings).
    When you run
    "emctl config agent getTZ"
    you get:
    "Europe/London"
The only oracle documentation I can find on this subject tells you to edit the emd.properties, and modify the agentTZRegion property, which doesnt exist.
    I tried the following command:
    "c:\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\BIN>emctl resetTZ agent"
    Which tells you to execute:
    SQL> exec mgmt_target.set_agent_tzrgn('wario:3938','Europe/London')
    SQL> commit
However, when I do this, I get:
    SQL> exec mgmt_target.set_agent_tzrgn('wario:3938','Europe/London')
    BEGIN mgmt_target.set_agent_tzrgn('wario:3938','Europe/London'); END;

  • Upgrade from 9.2.0.6 to 9.2.0.8

    Hi All,
I am trying to upgrade from 9206 to 9208 on Windows 32bit machine.
During the analyzing depending I am getting the error as below.
"Cetain files which need to reinstalled by Oralce Universal Installer are being used by one or more running services..."
Below i have long list of all the running process.
    what I did:
    1) I have sent all the services to manual.
    2) Bounce the servers.
    3) Set all services to manual.
    Still the same.
    Please give your comments.

    Hello,
You may stop the Distributed Transaction Coordinator Service and then retry.
Else, you may download a (free) Soft like the one below ( OpenedFilesView ) and, check for the locked files, then kill the Process which lock the files:
    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/opened_files_view.html
If everything fails, you may rename the ORACLE_HOME Directory and restart the Server.
Then, of course, you rename to the original name the ORACLE_HOME and start the Upgrade.
This last method helped me in the past.
    Hope this help.
    Best regards,
    Jean-Valentin

  • Oracle 9i and Oracle Client 7x

We upgraded our database software from 7.3.4 to 9i. The application we are using is the Viking Development System and is still a 16-bit application.
I was able to get certain parts of the program to work on a variety of workstations (95, 98 and 2000), but on each workstation there are pieces that do not work.
Here is some of the errors...
When I try to post the donation transactions, I get the following error messages. A general Protection fault occurred in module sql16w95.dll at 0001:139F
I have renamed the file to sql16w95.dll to sql16w95.old as suggected in bug 2171024.
    Now the following message appears...
Unable to load VIP DIctionary Status=3113
There is also a problem with the lookup screen. The actual database information is OK. But it shows some pledge balances are incorrect. They show the balance as being 14.717 instead of 177.17 for example.
I need a solution to these problems.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Mark
We are running a 16bit application (Viking Development System) using an Oracle 7 client on a 9i database.

If you want to make sure the application connecting through oracle client
    set the pah variable
    Enter
    C:>path
Oracle bin directories will be displayed along with other variables.see which oracle version comes first.
If it is 10g then the Oracle will use 10g client to establish conneciton but if 9i installation is displayed first then it is going to use 9i client
To change 10g as default client
you can set it 2 ways
Right click my computer>properties?advance tab--click environement variables
    select PATh variable..
    OR
    launch Oralce universl installer
    click installed products
    click environment tab
Select the 10g home and click the UPWARD arrow at the right hand side to make Oracle 10g as default client
You can see oracle bin directories.Just cut the Oracle 10g installation with bin and paste in front of all the variable in the PATH value

(Only newbies and people who do not plan on being in a production environment will learn the habit of logging in as root anyway. There is NO production environment that I have encountered that will let people, even System Administrators, use root on a regular basis without explicit justification.)
The simplest solution is usually to log out - all the way out - and then log in as Oracle. Then try the runInstaller again and post the results.

You should compile php with oci support; I did it with:
    % cd ../php-x.x.x
    % ./configure \
    --with-oci8=/oracle/product/8.1.7
    % make
    % make install
    Good luck!!
    (php apache oracle works great!!)

few things you can check :
    a) Is there a password file ? Is the password correct in it ?
    b) SYSDBA remote login is disabled. remote_login_passwordfile is not set to EXCLUSIVE in the spfile or init.ora.
    Set: remote_login_passwordfile= EXCLUSIVE
    Create a password file:
    Unix: $
    orapwd file=$ORACLE_HOME/dbs/orapw$ORACLE_SID password=sys entries=5
    Windows:
    C:\> orapwd file=%ORACLE_HOME%\database\pwd%ORACLE_SID% password= sys entries=5
To synchronize the password for sys for normal connections and connections as sysdba connect as a sysdba user and reset the sys password:
    $ sqlplus "/ as sysdba" SQL> ALTER USER SYS IDENTIFIED BY change_on_install;

Make sure you are using the Oracle version 11.1 (11g R1) as stated in the supoported platforms guide.
What version of Solaris is this? For Solaris 9 you need libc 112874-16 or higher and C++ run-time 111711-11 or higher.
For Solaris 10 you need the SUNWlibC package.
    Hope that helps

ur problem is that u install latest version and now u trying to installing old version.
now u need to uninstall 10g and delete oracle from services, if the probleme presist then u should
    install fresh windows 7.
    Regards
SaqibNo need to install a fresh OS. That's like tearing your house down just because you wired a lamp wrong and blew a circuit breaker.
There are MeaLink notes on how to eradicate an Oracle install from Windows, but it boils down to this:
    Stop all Oracle services
    In the registery:
    - Delete all oracle services from the register (HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet
    - Delete the entire Oralce folder from HKLM\Software
    reboot
Delete the ORACLE_HOME directory and any other Oracle related directories/files. Offhand, it seems like there is an Oracle directory under Program Files.
    reboot
