Orange Flashing light, ipod is recongnized

Alright I have had my ipod for about 10-11 months now, and just in the past couple days it has started acting up. When I plug in my ipod shuffle, it shows up in itunes saying that "Updating ipod, do not disconnect" and then it goes on to say "ipod update is complete". It's like my shuffle is updated but not completley. I think it happened after i downloaded the latest itunes software but then got it to work briefly after i downloaded the latest ipod updater. I don't know what to do.

Well I did what B Noir had to say here:
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=2665631#2665631
and now I can put songs on my shuffle, take them off and the update process completes so I can safely remove my shuffle from my computer but I still can't turn my ipod on dispite it be fully charged.

  • Green and Orange Flashing lights - ipod still wont work after Reset Utility

I bought my daughter an ipod shuffle 1st gen last year. It stopped working, did everything I was suppose to do, sent it back to Apple, they sent me a new one. Now the stupid thing is flashing green and orange lights at me! I've tried restoring it with Reset Utility, but they are still blinking at me. This is supposed to be a newly refurbished ipod, I only recieved it today, so by rights it should be working...am I doing something wrong? It is charging, it is recognised in my computer but not in itunes. What is going on? Can anybody help...this is so frustrating.

Hold on... Alternating green and orange for 2 seconds means there's no playable music on it. Alternating green and TWO orange for 10 seconds means that it has to be restored. WHICH light pattern are you referring to?
What do you mean it's not recognised in iTunes? Does it NOT show up in the left most (Sources) panel?

  • Orange flashing light when I put iPod (2nd generation) in dock

I have set iTunes so that it won't start up when I put the iPod in the dock. I thought I could just charge up my iPod without having iTunes open, but when I put the iPod in the dock it just flashes the orange light and I don't think it's charging. The only way it'll be a solid orange light is if I open iTunes and have it "detect" the iPod and then it charges. Or maybe I'm wrong - is it charging when the orange light flashes? I'm confused. Thanks for any help you can offer.

I'm having a similar problem but I don't think my
shuffle is charging. I can't ever get the orange
light to be steady no matter the setting. Sometimes
it is blinking orange and other times there isn't a
light at all. I left it in the dock for about 8 hours
today. Once I disconnected it and turned it on the
light was Red and it only lasted about an hour. I
just bought this 2 days ago...any ideas?
IF the status LED is NOT lit when your Shuffle is
in the dock and the dock is connected to a USB port,
it CAN'T charge because the connection doesn't carry sufficient power.
Make sure the Shuffle is firmly seated in the dock AND
the USB connector is firmly in a high-power (500MA) USB port AND the computer is NOT asleep. Orange LED (so;id or flashing) indicates a good connection and that it's charging.

  • Airport express works for a few minutes then orange flashing light

I was given an Airport Express as a Christmas gift to stream music to my stereo whilst in the same room. I configured the AX as per the instructions. A green light showed and streaming worked fine for a couple of minutes before cutting out and the light flashing orange.
I reset the AX and tried reconfiguring but I had the same problem. I also tried configuring via ethernet but the same problem occurred again. I don't think it's a bandwidth or signal issue, as although I am a couple of rooms away from the router, my Macbook shows full signal in the same location as the AX.
If it helps I am using a Netgear WGR614 router with WPA personal security. I hope somebody can help.

my Macbook shows full signal in the same location as the AX
The "bars" really don't give you an accurate picture of the signal strength, and they tell you nothing about noise.
You might want to download a utility like iStumbler to get a different look at your network and also identify other wireless networks around you that may be contributing to the Wireless Interference that is likely causing your problems.

  • Constant Purple & Orange Flashing light on BTHH3

We're currently experiencing problems with our line. No internet.
As mentioned on the subject, the light on the Hub3 is constantly flashing purple and orange. On the white Openreach modem, the LED light labeled DSL will blink for a few of seconds, then it stops and moments later, it does the same thing over again. For the record, we also do not have a dial tone on our phone.
This happened about 2-3 days ago, midday. I remember seeing an engineer from some company checking the lines in the house for the Flat opposite ours. That's when our internet got cut off. I didn't suspect him at first until later that day when I went out and saw some cabling exposed(I know those cables are connected to our flat as I saw the previous Openreach engineer checking them when he was fixing our line some 6 months ago). Picture below.
I'm currently tethering using my 3G phone and using the free BTwifi on my laptop which really helps a lot in this kind of situation.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for replying quickly.
I went to BT fault page and was reading through some information regarding the £99.00 charge if I ask for an engineer to come/visit. Now, from what I have pointed out in my previous post is merely speculation that the engineer I mentioned actually did the damage(I did not see it for myself except for the cabling I found later). Since those cables are within our home, I may be liable for that fee and obviously, I'm not willing to pay for as the problem wasn't caused by me.
Cannot really blame anyone except for that someone who was checking those lines.
Is there a sure way to find out whether I'll be charged or not?

  • Canon i550 is not working. 7 orange flashing lights

Our Canon i550 stopped working.  Green light followed by 7 flashing orange lights.  I cleaned out printer head and all ink cartridges are new.  I have tried resetting printer and still not working.

Uninstall the device using Canon's instructions. Then assuming you are using a USB connection to connect it to your computer restart the computer in Safe Mode to clear some caches. Then restart the computer normally. Then connect the printer to the computer via USB and turn on the printer. The printer should then be seen in the Print & Scan preferences. If not run Software Update. To scan use Image Capture (it's preloaded on your computer) and scan using the Image Capture tool.
If you still have trouble then follow the instructions in Printing Overview OS X Lion.

  • AX Orange Flashing Light--different, but the same

Okay so I am only trying to use the AX for Airtunes. I plugged an audio cable in, then the 2 RCA's to the input on my receiver and I plugged the AX in. (I tried it in every order so that can't be it) The first flash is green but then it goes to a solid amber then a flashing amber. I have tried it on a normal stereo; same result. It cant be the signal strength because I've got a full signal in my room. And can someone also tell me why I cant install the AiportUpdate2006001 file?
    HELP!!

Sounds like there is a problem with your internet not being active. Here are what lights mean. http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/44266/~/what-do-the-lights-on-my-bt-home-hub-4-mean%3...

  • The Flashing Orange Power Light Of Doom! [HH3]

I've had no internet service for a week now, on Infinity 2 with HH3.
All lights on the white modem are green, the hub won't even start, just goes to a steady orange, then after about 15 seconds, a continuously flashing orange power light, and stays there.  The other lights are dark.  Power cycle doesn't work, holding down the reset button doesn't even reset it.
After lengthy "troubleshooting" on the phone with India, I received a replacement HH3 yesterday, plugged it all in and got all blue lights for all of 3 seconds and then - wham - reset to flashing orange light, which now stays there no matter what I do.  The issue was escalated to "Tier 1 support" by India yesterday, but heard nothing.
No service problems reported in my area according to the BT website, but India seemed adamant that it was a network issue (after being adamant that it was a faulty hub earlier in the week...).
This is getting very frustrating now, anyone have any idea what could be causing this ??!   I really just want an engineer to come out but India wouldn't arrange that.

It should be quite easy to prove by bypassing the hub and connecting the modem to the PC, then setting up a broadband PPPOE connection.
Here's some instructions provided by Rygg
try a direct connection to the modem. This will rule out your homehub and internal wiring as the fault.
1: Remove the homehub from the modem
2: Connect your pc/laptop into the modem using LAN1 port
3: Open network and sharing centre on windows and click set up a new connection or network
4: Connect to the Internet (the top option) then click make a new connection Broadband PPPoE
5: Username [email protected] and the password as anything you want
6: connect, if it cannot connect, just keep pressing try again if this happens and it will eventually connect.

  • Flashing Orange Warning Light

    Hello all,
The Xserve at the studio I work at has a flashing orange light on the front panel and i've been sent to suss out the issue. Apparently running the server monitor yields the message "server monitor is not installed properly".
Now we're not sure if the flashing light is because of the above error message or another issue and we're reluctant to take the server offline.
Can anyone suggest some possible causes for this warning and let me know if this needs immediate attention?
    Thanks.

The orange light is something you should investigate. It might be benign, but it might not. I don't think Server Monitor's setup itself would cause this.
IIRC the commonest cause of that message is that the LOM hasn't been properly configured on the server and since Server Monitor communicates through the LOM that's a critical component.
You can reset the LOM values in Server Monitor (use the menus to 'Setup Local Machine' (or some such)). Setup the LOM with values suitable for your network then try again.

  • 2nd gen green-yellow flashing lights with content on iPod

so I looked up the definition of the alternating green-yellow flashing lights and it apparently means that there's no content on the iPod.
But when connected to Mac iTunes it shows that there actually is content on it. Hmmm. I can even play that content *from* the iPod through iTunes interface and hear it through the powerbook speakers.
I ran the iPod reset utility, reset the firmware in iTunes and reloaded the podcasts. Still the same thing.
Seems to sync fine. Don't know what's going on with this.

Make sure the mode switch is set to "play-in-order" and NOT "shuffle".
Flashing green-yellow means there's no PLAYABLE content on the shuffle.

  • Won't turn on, flashing light, loud buzzing when I try to charge it?

My ipod died in April and I got a replacement from the apple store as it was still (just!) under warranty. I woke up in the middle of the night last night because my ipod was flashing - not on and off, just a blank flashing light. I tried turning it on and off but it didn't work and didn't even turn on.
When I got up today the flashing had stopped. I tried charging it but as soon as I plugged in the lead from my computer it started making a really loud buzzing noise. I don't mean the whirring/clicking noise that seems to be common enough when they die (that's what happened my last one, but it would turn on and display the battery with exclamation mark), but a real buzzing sound.
It started flashing again too after being plugged in for less than a minute. I left it plugged in for a while but the noise was driving me crazy so I've unplugged it now.
Has anyone come across this problem before? I haven't dropped it or had it near liquids etc, I've been treating it like a newborn baby since the last one died! I've googled and tried searching apple support but I haven't come across anything similar. Any help would be great, thanks!

If you connected it to both your computer's USB port and a USB power adapter on a wall outlet, I think you've ruled out a problem with the power source.  Since you at least get the red light, the USB docking cable is probably OK.
So, if it's not the USB port or the docking cable, the cause is likely to be on the shuffle.  It may be the battery or a problem on the logic board.  If it was just the battery, I think it would still appear in iTunes on the computer (or at least be recognized by the system).
(If this shuffle is less than one year from purchase date, it is under warranty.)

  • Iphone 4s won't turn on, but flash light is on

Hello all, I have an iPhone 4s which is approx 5 weeks old, has never been dropped and has no water damage. The other day the flash light came on and I couldn't get it off but the phone was working perfectly fine. Then the phone died and now I can not get it to turn on. When you plug it into the computer it is not recognized and the screen is just completely black there are no signs of it saying its charging or anything, all that happens is the flash light turns back on. I have tried pressing all the various buttons for various amounts of time, both plugged into the computer and not plugged in, but nothing seems to work. I am currently in the Galapagos Islands for another 3 weeks so I can't go to any places to get any help and it is my only camera here so it's a serious bummer. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know, it is greatly appreciated!!!

personally the only time i have seen this is with liquid damage or fake parts fitted to the device
(if it is fake parts apple will have to deny service)
under the tab in the dock connector you should see a small sticker in the middle (white is good, orange/red is liquid)
also the same applies to the bottom of the headset jack in the top of your handset
if you have any further issue or still not sure as to why this is happening simply book a genius bar appointment at your local apple store via www.apple.com/retail

  • 42 hours and counting (orange blinking light)

I see this topic posted all over this forum but no real solution yet (yes I disconnected and re-connected it, but did not work, still blinking). Is Apple monitoring this forum or doing anything about this? Is there a patch or something?

Guess I'll charge it for 24-48hr periods, I timed it
on the charger for the 4hrs it says it takes, I took
it out and it lasted about 20 minuts then died.
Why does Apple advertise the light is supoosed to
turn green or charge in 4 hrs when it dosnt?
This is my first iPod, needless to say I wont be
buying anymore Apple products if this the sorta
wishy-washy tech-no crap there making. Funny, we can
put people on the moon but we cant get a simple
portable MP3 player to work right.
Aside from the fact that the last moon landing was 34+ years ago and that we had no plans, then, of actually building a MoonBase ... is the orange status light now steady instead of blinking?

  • Connecting HDD to Airport Extreme causes orange death light...

I am in a small office network with mix of pc and mac (7 pc's, 1 iMac, 1 wireless iMac, and 3 wireless macbook pro's). Internet connection comes into building directly to airport. Airport then feeds a couple of systems directly and a Dlink 24port ethernet switch which connects all other hardwired network connections.
I just purchased a Seagate Freeagent Desk 1.5TB external USB2 drive to be used as a network storage drive (not with time machine just grabbing and dumping files for interoffice sharing). Removed preloaded software and formatted fat32. Disk will be mounted and recognized when connected to any mac directly. When connected to the usb port on the airport extreme it begins to initialize and then bombs. Airport gives the orange death light and there is no connectivity to the router for all (ie internet connection, etc.) When you unglug the HDD the router reboots and then goes back to green light of peacefulness. What am I missing? Setting? Order of connection? Not hitting it hard enough on the ground with a large 10lb sledge hammer? Help me out...

you may need to restart the AEBSn with the drive plugged in.
since it might have been long since the AEBSn was restarted and anything else attached to it.
or a restore to factory settings...
i know not the best you want to hear, it should just work.
make sure all the AEBSn updates are there...etcetc
i was having this problem the past month or so and it started working again flawlessly after a few restarts.

  • I suddenly have two flashing lights on my keyboard by the caps lock key and over the end/pg up key.

I encountered a problem waking my laptop (Pavilion dv7-1270us) this morning.  At first it would not wake up and had to do a hard reboot.  Now I have two flashing lights on the keyboard -the caps lock light and the one over the end/pg up keys over the number pad.  I have run several diagnostics and cannot find an answer as to what this is.
