Orange fw v21 ota.

I have an Orange branded N86. I'm running v11 firmware. I don't own, or have access to a pc. I've checked my product code with the 'can i update' part of the nokia site, and it clearly says that v21 is available to me. Also, when i look at the 'SW update' app on my handset, it confirms that there is an update available, and it's approx 7000kb in size. However, i am unable to download this update. If i try the #*0000# method i just get an error message, 'server not responding'. If i try to update via the SW-update app, it simply connects to the web, then disconnects immediately after. In short, i am unable to update ota, although all the indications are that a firmware update is available. Bearing in mind the third sentence of this post, can anyone offer some advice?

You can take it to a Nokia Care Center for updating if you'd prefer that. Not to mention that it would let you circumvent all those problems of updating by yourself like incompatible PCs, needing reinstallation due to certain problems. Just make sure you have a backup of your important stuff in a separate memory card which you do not give to the technician when you put your phone in for updating.

  • Nokia 5800 v21.0.25 Auto-Rotate issue (firmware re...

    Hi,
After updating OTA to the lastest firmware Auto-Rotate display stopped working. When i first installed the new FW I had issue with the home screen. It kept blinking like every 1 sec between homescreen and appication screen. This is when I noticed that I cannot reinstall the FW from either NSU or OTA(I suppose it has been pulled of due to some problem for this model). I was luckily able to soft-reset the phone which fixed the home screen blinking, but the Auto-rotate doesn't work anymore. Sensor seems to be ok since step counter is working, muting the phone call and snoozing alarm works
Now I'm pretty annoyed since I can't reinstall the software and this is my only phone at the moment so I have to loan some phone from somewhere in order to the this to the service.
So be carefull with the new firmware.
    Solved!

You cannot reinstall OTA updates because they only work from version A to version B. Your phone now has version B on it already.
I've read that 5800s don't have NSU available for v21 yet, but I guess it's just a matter of time, then you can reinstall as many times as you like!
Thanks for the tip though. I don't use the auto-rotate or motion sensor at all, so I'll be updating just to get the improved Touch that's apparently coming.
I believe that if you have one version installed, and it is the latest one, you can reinstall it using NSU. I'm not sure how it works if you updated OTA vs NSU, though.

  • OS5 for 8520 on Orange

    Hi there
Just noticed on the Blackberry website that Orange have finally released OS 5.0.0.1168 for the 8520 but when i go through my phone to use the Wireless Update function it says there is no update available, is this because the OS needs updating through Blackberry Manager or is this not an official release?
    Many thanks

    Hi All,
    I had buy a Nokia N86 8MP on 3rd Feb'2010 from a reputed mobile store in bhubaneswar,Orissa,India
The firmware version installed is ''v10.086''
As per nokia ''v20''& ''v21.006'' is released.
So I go for an update via NSU and via AIR, but its showing your firmware is upto date and no update is there for v10.086 where as v20 and v21 is already released.
My phone is also not associated with brand such as Orange,Vodafone,T-mobile etc.
Also I have buy from a certified mobile shop.
I have also gone through Nokia.co.in site, its says to enter the code of the mobile which is below the battery,I also go for that and same result comes out v10.086 is latest for the code.
I can also give my code if somebody ask for it
Is there is no update for my mobile?
Is face detection I can't avail?
As per nokia v20 & v21 is already released but why not for my N86?

  • Gingerbread OTA and battery life issue

I received the Gingerbread OTA update. I am still working through testing everything to see if the phone is now the way it should be, but I keep stumbling on 1 issue with the battery life.
Yes my battery is now over a year old of occasional use.
When I first got the gingerbread update I had 100% battery and applied the update.
That day I got over 9 hours straight of MP3 playback over Bluetooth using the stock music player.
I charged the battery to full that night and left it on the charger overnight.
The next day I got 4 hours straight of MP3 playback over Bluetooth using the stock music player.
I charged it up 100% at work and proceeded to get another 4 hours straight.
Since that day I have never seen the 8 hours again.
One interesting note is that in the 4 hour increments the music player will stop when the battery hits the orange low warning. I can switch over to streaming music videos and play for another hour till the battery fully dies.
I have tried to recondition the battery using some information I found.
I have factory reset the phone and updated stock apps only.
I have factory reset the phone and never logged into the market place to keep apps from auto updating.
I have noticed on my factory resets things are different. It wants to erase the SD card. You can do the factory reset without erasing the SD card. I am not sure exactly what the difference is there and why the default is to erase the SD card. Sadly both factory reset are not behaving as the previous one did. Normally after the factory reset the setup wizard would start and help you activate your phone. It seems the new default is to not run that process or I got a bad update on my phone.
I have also noticed as a user here suggested that after the phone reaches 100% charge, even though it is plugged in, the phone seems to switch over to using battery mode draining the battery and never topping it back up since it still plugged in.
Shouldn't a year old battery last longer? Shouldn't I be able to stream music for longer than 9 hours? I don't have the screen on, all interaction is through the Bluetooth headset, doesn't mater if email is on with push mode or totally off and not even activated, no calling, no text messages, and just solely trying to listen music like a mp3 player.
    Suggestions?
Is your Samsung Fascinate Gingerbread OTA doing the same things?

A master reset definetly did not solve the issue for me.
On my last and most recent reset I noticed it did execute the setup wizard like it had done prior to gingerbread. This time I did not configure anything on the phone and just left it sit. I never opened the market either. About an hour later i got tired of no phone and started the wizard on my own so that the phone was at least activated. I did not configure any additinal email accounts just the standard single google account for my phone withthe gmail program.
I charge the battery to 100% with the phone on
Unplug the ac charger from the phone
ask the phone to power down
wait another 2 minutes after the screen goes black and the buttons are no longer lit
plug in the ac charger and it will top up the battery to a full 100% and not the OS 100% that it thinks it should be
Most nights i just leave it off charging to that last 100% since i have seen problems with trickle charging after it reaches 100% int he OS and then starts using the battery the rest of the night!
Next morning unplug the AC charger and ask the phone to boot
I got 8-9 hours playing mp3s streamed over bluetooth, 1 text message in and 1 text message out, but no phone calls and no other activity on the phone. Not bad but i feel it should do better!
I actived 3 exchange email accounts in push mode. I had heard push mode was supposed to be the best battery saver. Well with the included email (not gmail) app my battery went down in less than 4 hours! Today i have forced the email to manual mode instead of push for peak and off peak times. I will see if i get 8-9 hours again.
The rest of the phone is all factory defaults, boring, and pretty much useless. So much for a smart phone being smart and handy. Guess i need to buy about 3 batteries to get through a day and find a way to charge them as i run around throughout the day without ac or a way to charge.

  • N95 on orange

    hi all
please excuse me as this is the first time i have used this sort of thing
i have an n95 on orange with software version v 11.0.026 i am trying to update the phone but with no success have downloaded nsu and connected but it says no update available trying to update as the phone is switching it self off and haveing problems with bluetooth compatibility in my car ( which is nokia prepped typical ) if anyone can help please get in touch there must be a way to update this surely thanks in advance a frustrated user cheers

Let be honest about this one shall we?
Psychomania is right, it's Orange's decision not to allow the updated firmware, but I really doubt it's because they can't be bothered.
IMHO, As Orange (And Vodafone - as I understand) blocked all use of VOIP capability in the v11 firmware (presumably to maintain normal network call costs), they would have to do this to any future versions (v12, v20, and soon v21) too.
Given that Orange have been given a lot of grief from the public (rightly so!), and petitions have been formed on Trading Standards sort of sites (I forget the authority name, sorry)... It is easier for them to cover themselves if they just don't release another firmware as opposed to intentionally defying public rights and modifying a newer version of the firmware.
I think vodafone have seen this and released an unrestricted v12 firmware (correct me if I'm wrong please), but orange seem to be standing their ground.
p.s: the term "public rights" is probably too wishful thinking, but thats how I feel...
    (guess who's an Orange user?!?)

  • N86 RM-485 (0590552) V21 FOTA available, but not v...

Why is the update for N86 RM-485 (0590552) V21 only available via OTA?
NSU does not have this available.
Nokia, why a partial release only?
    When will this be corrected?
I really don't want to change product codes to upgrade. Generic NAM firmware for 0580950 already available, is the only real alternative.

I have a Nokia E52 and I have the same problem as your N86 update.
My Nokia E52 update is only available through FOTA but not NSU! Should I update through mobile or wait for the update to be available through NSU?

  • N86 v21.006 Messaging Bug

Whenever I delete a message from my sent box the phone exits from messaging and returs to the home screen. This is very annoying? Can we get an update to fix this?

You do NOT need a hard reset for updating the phone's firmware! All you need to do is backing-up your phone and then proceeding to the update. Only if you encounter problems after the update, you do need a soft/hard reset. I did not encounter any kind of problems, I've just backed-up my phone and then updated it OTA. Everything runs fine, all my apps are still there, all my settings, messages etc. I didn't even have to use the back-up restore utility, since there was nothing lost.
But answering your question, by doing a hard reset you will lose all your current settings, contacts, and most of the installed applications. However, those can be restored, if you backed-up your phone in the first place. Straight from the hard reset, you'll get the mail application, ovi maps, ngage, real player, quickoffice, adobe reader, facebook, zip manager and maybe some more that i'm forgetting to mention. Also, the reset does not affect the mass memory, so whatever applications you have installed there will not be lost. I hope this clears you up.
@HelloOX : The biggest difference between those two firmwares is better battery management and face detection, on v21.006. However, there are lots of tiny fixes, so, yeah, you should update it!

  • HT201328 I have been given permission for unlocking my iphone 3 GS from Orange. I want to set up the phone for my wife to use with a new number and carrier. Do I unlock under my itunes account first or set one up for her and then unlock the phone.

I have been given permission for unlocking my iphone 3 GS from Orange. I want to set up the phone for my wife to use with a new number and carrier. Do I unlock under my itunes account first ( I now have a new iphone on this account) or set one up for her and then unlock the phone. I am worried about upsetting the new phone.

I would complete unlocking as is and then
restore as new once you know the iPhone is unlocked
Be aware Orange will process the request at their speed
one of the reasons they usually reside at bottom of User Sat surveys
    will likely take weeks

  • Connecting HDD to Airport Extreme causes orange death light...

I am in a small office network with mix of pc and mac (7 pc's, 1 iMac, 1 wireless iMac, and 3 wireless macbook pro's). Internet connection comes into building directly to airport. Airport then feeds a couple of systems directly and a Dlink 24port ethernet switch which connects all other hardwired network connections.
I just purchased a Seagate Freeagent Desk 1.5TB external USB2 drive to be used as a network storage drive (not with time machine just grabbing and dumping files for interoffice sharing). Removed preloaded software and formatted fat32. Disk will be mounted and recognized when connected to any mac directly. When connected to the usb port on the airport extreme it begins to initialize and then bombs. Airport gives the orange death light and there is no connectivity to the router for all (ie internet connection, etc.) When you unglug the HDD the router reboots and then goes back to green light of peacefulness. What am I missing? Setting? Order of connection? Not hitting it hard enough on the ground with a large 10lb sledge hammer? Help me out...

you may need to restart the AEBSn with the drive plugged in.
since it might have been long since the AEBSn was restarted and anything else attached to it.
or a restore to factory settings...
i know not the best you want to hear, it should just work.
make sure all the AEBSn updates are there...etcetc
i was having this problem the past month or so and it started working again flawlessly after a few restarts.

I really don't have an answer for that one. I guess that while trying to get things working correctly, I would use the most basic monitor I had which in your case would be the Eizon using the Thunderbolt port and adaptor.
When you boot into Safe Mode the startup is quite slow, but you should get the Apple logo and then the spinning gear below it (release the SHIFT key when it appears.) Then after a little more time you should see a gray progress bar appear below the spinning gear. When that disappears the computer will startup to a login screen.

  • V21 5800 - reply to MMS with SMS?

I'm sure that before I upgraded to v21 I could reply to an MMS with an SMS by choosing from the options menu reply->via text message.  The "via text message" bit has gone now there is only a "to sender" - which replies with an MMS, or "with audio message".  Anyone else seen this?

Just make sure that the "Subject:" header is visible when composing messages. When responding to an MMS (there only ever was a "reply to sender", there were never "reply by SMS" and "reply by MMS" commands on the 5800 since there never were "create new SMS" and "create new MMS" commands either, just "create new message" ), all you have to do is wipe out the content of that header.
The 5800 converts your message to an MMS if there's something in the subject header or if you insert content that can't be sent via SMS like an image or video. If neither are present then it defaults to SMS.

  • Magsafe light flashes orange/green

I've just bought a used MBP 2.2 MHZ which operates fine except for switching back and forth between charging modes when the battery is around 85% full. The magsafe light stays orange a few seconds, then shows green for a second, then back to orange; the charging indicator on the screen switches at the same time. I swapped to a known working magsafe charger - same result. Operating on battery power is also a bit strange, with the available percentage of battery jerking around. Looking around, I see some 2007 and 2008 threads about this issue, but no final resolution at that time. Is there now a "bottom line" to this problem? Thanks!

No, it's not a battery calibration issue - but it could be a bad battery. The flashing MagSafe is a hardware issue. Since the SMC is the controller for power systems, resetting it is about all you can do for 'software' type of fix. If that doesn't correct it, the problem is either with the adapter itself (which you apparently ruled out), with the battery, or with an internal component (more likely the left I/O board, but possibly also the logic board itself).
The fact that your available percentage jumps around points to a deeper problem (time remaining can jump around depending on system load, but % charge should go in only one direction when running on battery).
Given your symptoms, I'd be inclined to try a replacement battery first, before looking inside the case for a problem.
If there's an Apple Store near you, make a Genius Bar appointment and let them have a look - they will be able to test the battery as well.
If you like, post your Full Charge Capacity and Cycle Count (from Apple menu > About this Mac . More Info > Power) for a preliminary diagnosis...
