Order book without dust cover

Hello,
I have iPhoto '08, in the past when I ordered a Hard cover 8.5 x 11 book via iPhoto it came with a canvas cover with the picture on the front. The latest book I ordered came with a dust cover and a picture on the dust cover by default. I was wondering if it's possible to order a hard cover book the old way, without the dust cover, or if books are only available with dust covers? If it is possible to order a book without a dust cover, where in iPhoto '08 is that setting? Thanks so much.

The books made with iPhoto '08 have a canvas cover and a full color dust cover - with '09 and '11 the books have a laminated cover with a photo and a matching full color dust cover - there are no options to not have a dust cover (you can throw it away after receipt)

You can purchase an iLife 09 or iLife 11 disk on ebay or amazon. Both will run on 10.6.8

Your purchase should show up as something that you could download again. Check out the article below on how to do that across all devices and in iTunes. If that is not the case and you do not see it, then report the issue to the iTunes Store for further assistance.

Can I reprint dust cover for iphoto book?

I just received a book I created with iphoto. On the dust cover, there is a photo that is not formatted correctly (although it looks good in iphoto). I had created a PDF to preview before I ordered the book and didn't notice the problem. So, the question is.... Is there some way I can order just a replacement dust cover without paying $50 for a reprint of the whole book.

No - possibly a local print shop can print one from the preview PDF
You can contact Apple (contact us link is at the bottom of every page of the forums) but as far as I know they do not offer that

You could try getting one printed locally. While viewing the book Control (right)-click in the window to bring up this contextual menu:
Selecting Preview Book will create a PDF of the book with the dust jacket at full size which you can save and take to a printer and see if they can print that particular page on glossy stock.

select the book in the source pane on the left - press command-D to duplicate it - with the copy to change theme and pick the same (or new if you want) theme and the hard cover format in the size you want

Blurb - book without picture on cover

Hi all -
Does anyone know how blurb will print a lightroom project when there's no picture selected on te back of the cover? In my project i selected hardcover image wrap. On the cover of my book i only selected a picture on the front as i'd like to have the back white. Does anyone know what will happen if i print my book without having a picture on the back?

News for Users having trouble ordering books

I was having trouble like many others ordering books during the last 2 weeks. I was also concerned about pending charges on my bank account. I received a very detailed explanation and helpful suggestions today form Apple Support. I am posting this in hopes that it helps others and ends all the frustration.

I understand that you're having an issue placing a book order. I also understand that there were charges on your credit card statement that were eventually dropped.
I reviewed the orders you submitted for the book titled "Honeymoon" and found that the file could not be opened. That is why your orders haven't processed completely. The size of the book shouldn't be an issue, so you don't need to change anything in it. Please keep submitting the order until you're successful. You may want to try during non peak hours so there'll be less traffic on your ISP's network.
As for the multiple charges, when you make a purchase using iPhoto, Apple sends an authorization request to your credit card company for the approximate amount of the purchase. This is to verify that your account has sufficient credit to cover the amount of sale. It is a temporary authorization hold, not an actual charge. Most credit card companies remove authorization holds within 48 hours.
Please note that even an unsuccessful attempt to purchase an item may cause an authorization hold, depending upon how much of the transaction was completed, and multiple attempts can cause multiple authorization holds.
If you have any questions about whether an amount found on your online statement is an authorization request or a charge, or when the authorization hold will be removed from your account, please contact your credit card company or financial institution.
To view your purchase history, visit http://www.apple.com/internetservices/yourorderstatus and sign in using your Apple ID and password.

Ordering books-iphoto 08 won't let me buy books i made in previous versions

help! i just upgraded last night to iphoto08, but tried to order books i'd made in previous versions today and i'm getting the message that "item is not available" or something to that effect. the books show up as i made them, but i can't order hard copies. do i have to recreate the books? or is there something i can do?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I had a book, the Storybook theme, in progress when I converted. iPhoto gave me a warning that the theme was no longer available but I could continue with the as long as I didn't try changing to another theme and then change back. However, that theme had the dust jacket feature instead of the photo on the front cover.
If you still have or have access to iPhoto 6 you could create a new library and recreate the book with that theme and see if you can order it. I'm thinking of trying the same thing.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

All I can say is the books I've created as gifts to my children for their children were received with absolute joy and appreciation (each book chronicled in pictures the first year of each grandchild's life). Granted the sentimental factor had a lot to do with the recipient's enjoyment of the book but they were spetacular. The book with its glossy dust cover is a very impressinve way to present your photos.
As Larry has pointed out so many have posted here that they were very satisfried with their book and Apple is very good about correcting problems.
To make sure there are no errors in the book before you order preview the book as described in this Apple document: iPhoto '11: Preview a book, card, or calendar before you order or print it. If the PDF file shows no errors, either in text typos (my biggest problem) or in missing photos, etc., the printed book will be error free.

IPhoto '08 Won't let me order book

Hey guys-
I'm trying to create a book in iPhoto '08. The book is made, no gray fields for photos, anything. When I click on the "buy book" button, it gives me an error message saying that al of the fields are not filed in an thus cannot order a book, however when I create a book without anything in it, it goes through to the order page just fine. Any help with this? Has anyone had a similar problem? Thanks!!!!

If you do not have a missing photo (you state that the error "missing field" - is this correct?) then you probably have a text field with nothing in it - every text field on the cover , inside cover and on page layouts has to have something in it - even if it is only a single space

After assembling a hard cover book and previewing the PDF the photos on the dust cover front and back are missing. I really need to order the book today. Thx

You are missing one or more photos - youprobably have a page background that requires a photo which is behind a page with photos on it - all pages must either have a photo or be a color - if you have a gray background it requires a photo - look through the book carefully and be sure to look at the background on any full page photos - you will find one or more missing photos

I currently have iPhoto 6.0.6, and can no longer order books. Do I have to get a new operating system, or just update my iPhoto to the next level.

tells us that you can order books with v6 or later.
You can place orders for Print Products using iPhoto 6, iPhoto '08, and iPhoto '09, as well as Aperture 2.
As you're on 10.4.11 you might want to go to iPhoto 08 as it's the highest you can run, and will probably be easier to find. Note that you cannot upgrade to any version without purchasing the iLife suite.
