Order of a playlist

I have several playlists. They are arranged in order by the singer or band. For example, all Stevie Wonder songs are together in that playlist, and all Beatles songs are together in that same playlist. I must have hit the wrong button, because on one of my playlists the playlist is now in alphabetical order by song, regardless of the singer. The only exception are the last few songs of that playlist, which are the songs of one musical group. I have tried getting rid of shuffle, and also going into the control tab and trying various possibilities. Nothing works. No problems with the other playlists, just this one. I was listening to that playlist and must have hit the wrong button and messed up the order. My question is, how do I revert back to the original order of the playlist I previously had, where the songs were grouped by band, not by alphabetical order of the songs? In general, how does one get the playlist to go back to the original order before I accidentally hit a button and randamized it? Must I use time machine, which I do not know at all?

Thanks. I found it just before I received your reply. I click the top of the column on the left that lists the numbers. Whew!!

  • How can I sync my ipod shuffle so that it plays in the same order as my playlist?

How can I sync my ipod shuffle (4th generation) so that it plays in the same order as my playlist?

Is the playlist in your iTunes library, or is it already on the shuffle (as a playlist)?
If you created one or more playlists for your shuffle in your iTunes library (with the songs in the desired playlist order), you should set up automatic syncing.  Here's how to do that, if you have not already...
NOTE:  If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is not visible, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
Select the shuffle in the sidebar, under DEVICES.  Near the top of the window, there is a bar of buttons, starting with Summary.  Click Music next to Summary.  This is the shuffle's Music screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs. (Sorry if you know this already...)
Check the box for Sync Music.  Below that, choose the option to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  In your case, find and checkmark those playlists you want under Playlists.  When you click Apply, the songs on those playlists and the playlists sync to the shuffle.
When using your shuffle, the default playlist that you are using is the All Songs list.  To play songs in order, the shuffle's power switch needs to be set to the play-in-order (middle) position.  However, if you are playing from the All Songs list, the songs play in alphabetical order.
To play from a particular playlist that is on the shuffle, you need to use VoiceOver to switch to that playlist.  This document explains how to set up and use VoiceOver on a shuffle

  • ITunes 10.6.3 keeps generating incomplete downloads AND it rearranges the order of the playlist when I burn a playlist to an mp3 cd

iTunes 10.6.3 keeps generating incomplete downloads AND it rearranges the order of the playlist when I burn a playlist to an mp3 cd.
I purchased an album on iTues from my MAC book Pro & the song downloads were incomplete. The song length shows correctly in the column, but they cut off between 1/4 & 1/2 way through the songs. Now, I dwonloaded it on my iPhone 4 through my itunes account after the purchase & the songs play fine. This happened with the very next song I purchased, as well.
I got around this issue, then created mp3 versions of all the songs, put them in their own playlist, then "Burned an mp3 disc." When it completed, the songs were in a different order.
Are there any fixes for either of these problems/bugs?

  • How do I keep the order of a playlist when I synch to my 1st gen. shuffle?

    Hi,
I have a 1st generation Shuffle and am trying to synch a playlist to it. I am able to drag and synch the playlist, but once it gets on my Shuffle, all the songs are alphabetized. I want to keep them in the order of my playlist. How do I do this? I am SO frustrated! Thanks, Melissa

Melissa, once you go to the contents page of your device, you will see panels that say: Name, Time, Artist, etc. By clicking on one of these panels, you can change the order according to these criteria. I had this same problem for 2 weeks, couldn't figure it out. My wife solved it in 2 minutes. Try this and good luck.

  • Re-ordering tracks in playlists

I have imported a language training cd into my library. The tracks are all transferred in the order in which they appear on the original CD. When I transfer them into Playlists some tracks are out of order.
I did find a post in this forum suggesting using "get Info" option following a right click on the "offending" track(s). The track numbers in the INFO tab are all correctly numbered but the tracks still appear in the incorrect order in the Playlist.
Is there a way around this?
    Thanks

Open iTunes then click on the playlist. Click on the number column (extreme left). Click on the song you want to move and drag it to where you want it to be. Make sure neither Shuffle or Repeat are switched on in the playlist, either of those can prevent you reordering tracks.

  • Why is the order of my playlists different on my iPhone than on my computer or iPod?

Why is the order of my playlists different on my iPhone than on my computer or iPod?  To clarify, I'm asking about the order of the playlists themselves (should be alpha) and not the order of the songs in the playlist.  I have an iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0.1, and a MacBook Pro running 10.7.2.

I beleive when Photo Stream first started it only sent photos to other devices and didn't delete them so you'll have to start fresh. Be aware it can take a little time for the changes to take effect depending on your upload speed of your internet.
I think to start out you'll have to delete all the photos on each device first which will also delete the new ones from the stream. Make an album in iPhoto on your Mac with all the photos in My Photo Stream. Then delete all the photos on Photo Stream on all devices then add all the photos back to My Photo Stream on the Mac.
May I suggest setting up a Shared Photo Stream for this purpose and keep the My Photo Stream for the new photos taken with your devices. Also be aware of the 30 day 1000 photo limits on Photo Stream.

  • Manually change the track order in a playlist?

I have purchased and downloaded 20 tracks from the Itunes store with just two artists involved, 8 tracks from one and 12 tracks from the other. I've created a playlist and at the moment the tracks are listed first by artist 1 and then artist 2. I want to burn this playlist to a cd, but before I do I want to shuffle the tracks manually.
There seems to be no obvious way of doing this. Help would be appreciated.

The choices available in the Sort By dropdown are based on the columns you've chosen to display in Songs view (which is why - in part - your screenshot looks different to mine).  However, the only place I can see where the Manual Order option is absent is where you are looking at the complete Library (where the Track Number column is not being displayed) and not a specific playlist.  In the latter case I always get that option, independent of the columns that are selected and displayed.
Likewise, every playlist - when viewed in Songs view - has an unlabeled column at the left hand side which is the effective "play order" for the playlist (which is what tt2 refers to in his response above).  Also, your screenshot shows an "iCloud Download" option, which I only see as being available when looking at the library as a whole and not at a playlist.  I was also caught out by the presence of a "Ticked" option but I assume that this is a regionalization issue - for me (configured for US English) the corresponding entry is "Checked".
You may have an underlying issue here but I would double check that you are looking at Songs view for a specific playlist and not the whole library.

  • Song order rearranges in playlists

I listen to music on my iPhone 4 (6.1.3 - not enough space to upgrade to ios7) when working out and traveling.  Recently I tried to change the order of songs in a couple of playlists and add new songs and the changes won't keep.  For instance when editing the playlist, if I move a song from the bottom of the playlist to somewhere in the middle when I hit done the song i moved will disappear from where I had it back to the bottom of the list and another song from the bottom will take that spot.
I have tried moving songs in several playlists and the same thing happens.  I will edit the order in the playlist to be what I want but as soon as I hit done it either reverts to the way it was or songs will just be in random spots.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well, while the playlist in iTunes and the playlist on the iPhone, as it appears in iTunes, match, the problem is that the iPhone seems to be stripping the instruction to order the songs randomly.  That instruction is given in the 'limit to 30 GB selected by random' line.  The list on the iPhone is in order from least recently played to most recently played.  The highlighted column in the playlist is the leftmost 'number' column not the Last Played column.  Any clues hiding out there?

  • Order in smart playlist

I have a smart plalyst A configured as such:
    1) Include all songs from playlist B
    AND
    2) Where rating = (no rating)
The songs in playlist B are in a very specific order, how do I preserve the same in playlist A ?

I don't think you can. There is no way to tell a SPL to also copy the play order from another playlist you are grabbing songs out of.

  • I want to change the top level order of itunes playlists

This is rather odd problem.  There is a lot of information available regarding organising tracks within playlists but I want o change the top level order of the playlist themselves.
I have an ipod to car CD player adaptor that can select itunes playlists as if they were  single CDs.  The problem is that the adaptors works through the list of itune playlists in order i.e. the first "CD" is the "classical music smart playlist" followed by the other default smart playlists and then by my own playlists.  What I want is force the smart playlists to the bottom of the top level list so that the adaptor finds my playlists first.  I am considering deleting all smart playlists but I see some value in keeping them.  I think the answer is no it can't be done but I be interested to hear if anyone has some ideas on this.
N.B. I am using itunes 12.01.26 on my Macbook to manage my itunes library.

Hey guys m I got the answer for the below question.
Oracle have few Restriction and limitation on such Advanced table in sorting the data,
Few of them are as mentioned below ...
    1. Sorting is not allowed for tables that allow inserts.
    2. Sorting is not supported for tables containing updateable columns
    3. Sorting is disabled when the Select column is checked for a row in a table or when Hide/Show is present in a table.
Because of the above limitations , we cannot sort or override the existing alphabetical name sort order to Date applied sort order on the View Applicant advanced table.
You can observe that , View Applicant page is having an option called "Update Status" which allow us to update applicant’s status or rating in the Advanced table.
On such updatable advanced tables, oracle does not allow us to override the sort order on any of the table columns.
Keeping it in a nutshell , I can say it's does not allow us to change the sort order of the view applicant advanced table ( which is having updateable columns ) to sort them in Date applied instead of Name( which is default ).

  • Order of iTunes Playlists different on iPhone than Mac

Upon upgrading to iOS 5 a little while ago, I noticed that the alphabetization rules had changed for my Playlists on my iPhone, yet remained the same on my Mac. I have a number of playlists that would remain at the top of the list of Playlists (ie ".Essentials" or "_Recent Additions") because of the punctuation before them. iOS 5 changed the way they are ordered, so that Playlists are ordered by letter ("A"), number ("2"), and then punctuation ("_"), rather than the reverse. iTunes on my Mac still follows the original rules. Is there any way to change these rules? I know it's a nit-picky thing, but it drives me crazy to have to call the playlists I want at the top "AA--Recent Plays" in order to keep them up there. A simple ".Recent Plays" is much cleaner. I saw someone had this issue when they upgraded to iOS 3.0 a couple years ago, but got the wrong answer.  I had iOS 3 yet didn't have that problem. I don't know why Apple arbitrarily would change this but the fact that in iOS 4 this issue didn't exist gives me hope there may be a solution. So, Apple nit-pickers, can I change the alphebetization rules or will I suffer through playlists that start with double A's ("AA")? Please help!

It IS a NANO issue, and I think I have found a temporary solution. It works for me, anyway:
    1. You have your smart playlist that works in iTunes but gets messed up on the Nano... in this case let's call it "Recently Added."
    2. UN-check this from the Nano sync list. Do not delete the playlist, keep it in iTunes, but do NOT have it updated in the Nano.
    3. Make a new smart playlist. The one and only rule should be: Playlist - IS - Recently Added.
    4. Name this playlist something slightly different, such as "Recently Added for Nano."
    5. Have iTunes update the new smart playlist into the Nano.
This works for me as long as I don't have the original sync'd.

  • Match is ordering songs in playlists alphabetically rather than by track number. how can I fix this?

I've set my iPhone to use iTunes Match, but it is ordering songs in playlists alphabetically rather than by track number. And there isn't an oedering system on the iPhone, so I have to do it by hand. how can I fix this?

Sad to see that people have been complaining about this since last year (although not many seem to care, which is odd). For classical music listeners it is a total slap in the face.

  • My playlists wont play in order on ipod playlist. why?

My playlists wont play on my touch in the same order as they show on the touch playlist scheme. Why? & ive gone onto ituned & clicked on orderofplay!

With iTunes 8.x you have the option to tell iTunes to treat any audio file as an audiobook. Simply select the tracks, *Get Info.*, then on the options tab set *Media kind* to Audiobook. You can also set options to *Remember playback position* and *Skip when shuffling*.
Assuming, however, that the books consist of more than one file you may have problems if you plan to listen to them on an iPod. The Audiobooks feature was originally designed for books that have been stitched up into a single file and hasn't been updated to reflect the changes that make multi-track audiobooks easy to work with in iTunes. There are tools for creating iPod-friendly audiobooks for which Aldo on Audiobooks is probably the best reference. Personally I don't bother with the extra effort and just have an "Audiobooks" playlist folder containing sub-folders for each author and within these playlists for each audiobook. Although I still mark the files as Audiobooks to keep them out of my main music section when it comes to the iPod I ignore its Audiobooks options and use my own playlists for access.

  • How/Can I Change the Order of a Playlist

I purchased a Greatest Hits album from iTunes and then 4 more extra songs from the same band. I then created a New Titled playlist from the library so I could burn a CD of these purchased songs, but one of the extra purchased songs " insists" on being in the Number One (1) location in the list of songs, the 3 others went to the bottom of the greatest hits playlist as I want. Dragging and Dropping, etc. doesn't seem to work, is there another way ?
    iTunes (6.0.4 )

What happens if you create a new test playlist and drag the tracks to it one-by-one in the order that you want them?
I myself have not run up against a case of not being able to manually reorder tracks in a playlist as long as shuffle was off the the first column was clicked on.

  • Song order on ipod playlist problem.

I just got a new Ipod (30G) and I just finished putting 1000+ songs on it, it was hard work but i finally got it. Yet I found out that my ipod is doing to the same things my other one was doing, Instead of sorting the songs in Alphabetical order by Artist in my playlist, it will only sort it by the date added instead.
I put my songs manually instead of syncing and Im not about to reorganize all my songs on Itunes for this problem.
Is there anyone who can help me?
    Thanks.
      Windows XP

If you go into iTunes, select the playlist then right click and pick "Copy To Playorder" it will leave the order the way it is. I think it transfers that way to the iPod as well. Not sure how Manually syncing effects that, but you may need to redrag the playlist over to the iPod for it to take effect. Try it on a small playlist first and see if it works.
