Order of album tracks

Sometimes when I combine songs from different CDs into one album, the track listings are out of order. Even if I renumber them (Info, change Track __ of _) they are out of order.
Now the funny thing is most columns are sortable simply by clicking on the column header. Clicking the Time column puts then in Time order, etc. But clicking on the track number column does nothing. Interestingly, clicking on the artist column does put the tracks in the correct order (even though the artist is all the same.)
What's up?

Try making sure they all have the same "album artist" field filled in. if any of them are blank, these get put at the top. or the end... i forget. also, make sure they all say, "disc 1 of 1" in the track info. that should put them in track order.

  • Album Tracks

iTunes has changed the track order of two new albums. I've gone into get info and verified that the track numbers are correct (1 of 10, 2 of 10, etc), but in the library and on my ipod they are in a different order. How do I change the order of album tracks in my library?

    mureid,
The track tags in the info are simply for reference relating to the original album. iTunes isn't bound by that, and can arrange the tracks however you wish. If you have a playlist in which the tracks of an album are out of order, go to that playlist, click the box that's to the left of "Name" (in the sorting row, which usually contains "Name", "Album", "Artist", etc.) After clicking once in the black sort box, you'll be able to drag tracks around until they're in whatever order you'd like them to be in.
Give it a try and let me know if it doesn't address what you were asking about.

  • ITunes/iPod displays album tracks out of order

I have this weird problem where one of my albums has three tracks that display out of order.
    http://i55.tinypic.com/mtwf0x.png
I can't think of anything in the tags that would cause this. They're all identical in terms of album/artist/# of tracks...
But this causes a wierd problem with another album
    http://i55.tinypic.com/xmvh2e.png
The three out of place tracks go there when I order by album. On my iPod in album view, Black Symphony gets displayed in the Bs, but then in the Hs, it'll show up as a full listing again like this:
    Heart of Everything
    Black Symphony
    Heart of Everything
    Black Symphony
    Heart of Everything
    Black Symphony
Going into each album will have the full list. Heart of Everything displays its tracks in order, but each entry for Black Symphony will have the full listing with tracks 9, 15 and 21 at the bottom of the track list.
Any idea what would cause this issue?

Holy frigging crap that was it! I didn't even think to look under the sorting tab! No idea how that got set anyway since they're all from the iTunes store. Anyway, apart from those three tracks, Black Symphony had the Sort Album field empty. I cleared it on those three tracks and everything is normal now. Thank you!

  • ITunes Album Track Order

I basically spend 8 hr a day listening to iTunes and I have a really frustrating issue that I can't imagine should be as difficult to get around - but I can't seem to figure it out.
I buy quite a bit of music either through emusic, itunes or cd's. Since I had probably 1/2 dozen albums a week, I ideally want to open itunes and just start listening to the last album I imported (in order) followed by the 2nd most recent album, etc -- and ideally listen for my entire workday. The problem is multifaceted:
    1. Emusic automatically imports music I download. It processes them in reverse order, which is good since it makes song #1 the most recent "date added" which allows me to sort by "date added" and listen in order. Unfortunately, since it processes multiple songs at a time, shorter songs beat the song before it -- and it makes a mess of the track order. They get numbered correctly, but they're "date added" are incorrect -- which messes up my listening order.
    2. When I import a CD, it starts at track 1 -- making it impossible to use the "dated added"field as a sort.
    3. I believe Itunes acts like a cd on importing, so again the order is bungled.
I have about 6,000 songs so I don't think it's feasible to change each CD one by one, but I can't imagine there isn't some way to just listen to my newest album, in order, then my next newest, etc.
Does anyone know if there's a way to do this? I can't imagine I'm the only person who listens to music this way. Right now, I wind up filtering to the album, sorting by track, and listening to CD's one by one. I can get through like 20 albums in a day, so this it makes it really tought to get into a flow at work.
This has bothered me for well over a year, and I've searched many discussion groups and haven't come across any similar threads -- so I decided to just ask flat out.
Any help would be incredible, thank you.

hmmm... I didn't realize that was an option, but that definitely helps. I guess part two can be to request emusic to NOT IMPORT automatically, and I can just load the tracks in reverse order.
Of course that helps moving forward, but I guess I'm stuck with out of order imports on the existing library (not the end of the world).
I really wish Itunes would allow a secondary sort to allow us to sort albums and just leave the track numbers alone -- I'd say 99% of the time, people want the album tracks in order, so it's silly to have most of the sort options mess with that order.

  • Album track order in iTunes

Hello, I have a problem with a few downloaded albums.
I had downloaded album tracks off the net into album folders in My Music. The tracks were numbered. After importing the albums (folders) into my iTunes library, & updating my iPod with those, I see that in both the iPod & iTunes the tracks are in the wrong order. They are however, in correct order in their folders (in MY Music).
Any ideas how I can remedy this?

Try this, I found that it works for me. Right click at the top of any column in your iTunes library and choose **Track Number** from the list. Click at the top of this new column to sort it and after that click on the Album column. If you like you can then click on Artist which is how I prefer mine ordered, it will continue to hold the track order as well. Afterwards anything you import should follow this arrangement Artist>Album>Track Number within Album (you can hide the track number column when you've done if you don't want it cluttering up the view)

  • SICK of iTunes messing up my albums' track order!

SCENARIO: I rip a CD, get track name/number and ID3 info from online database, convert to MP3, import into iTunes, sort by Album by Artist (with tracks displaying in correct order), and my iPod STILL chooses to play it in whatever order it darn well pleases.
What's up with that?! Come on, Apple!
    Oh yeah, my question:
As you can probably tell, I don't use my iPod/iTunes as a 'jukebox', I simply store my record collection on it. Concordantly, I want to listen to only my albums, and only in the track order the artist intended. How can I tell iTunes/my iPod once and for all that I don't want it to play albums in any order other than track order? If this isn't possible, my question becomes, which form of suicide could anyone recommend? I hear the Empire State Building is pretty high...

Your iPod will order the tracks by their "Track number" tag that appears when you ⌘-i a track and go to the "info" tab. Your iPod needs to know what the track number is in order to play the tracks in that order.
When this value is not present, I'm guessing it will order them in alphabetical order, or the order in which they were imported or some-such.

  • Album tracks playing in random order

I downloaded an album from iTunes today and when I went to play it, it's shuffling. I haven't asked it to. It's a Richard Hawley album. That guy doesn't even let you speak at his gigs. He'd go mental if he knew. I have checked on the "Get Info" tab, and each track is correctly listed in order. So why won't they play in order? Any ideas? Thanks

If the shuffle symbol is lit up blue then click again to turn it grey and turn off shuffle.
Otherwise what order are the tracks playing in? Is it consistent?

  • 5310 Album Track Order

I've got a 5310 with the Comes With Music package. I've downloaded some albums, but they seem to be listed and playing in a random order (Shuffle is off), not the order of the album. Is there a way to fix this?

The problem appears to be with the order you put the songs onto the phone in. The only solution I've found is to remove all the songs from the album on the phone, then add them back on in the order that they are in the album.
This only appears to be a problem with WMAs (The file format used by the songs downloaded from Nokia Music Store).
I have tried the same thing with MP3s, adding them on to the phone out of order from the album, and they are played in the correct order.
This therefore leads me to conclude that the 5310 cannot read all the tags correctly from the WMA format files, which would allow it to sort the album tracks by the track number. Some other information missing when looking at a WMA file on the phone is Year and Genre information which can be viewed in MP3s on the phone. This means that the Genres list on the phone doesn't list anything for the WMAs. I am a little disappointed about the poor support for WMAs, especially when the tracks downloaded from the Nokia Music Store are in WMA format, surely the phone should properly suppor this format, especially when the 5310 is supplied with the Comes With Music package.
I have to say Nokia support have been excellent in the speed and response of their communications over e-mail. I have been discussing it with them for the past couple of weeks and they have forwarded my summary above to the relevant department. Hopefully something will be fixed in future. Although creating playlists is a solution (And something that was recommended by Nokia) in reality this would take an awful long time with 50+ albums on my phone and the speed of navigation through the songs, so the best way is to remove the songs and add them on again. Hope this helps.

  • Album track order changed on Zen Mi

I have found when transferring whole albums onto the Micro via windows media, the order of the tracks is changed to alphabetical order on the Zen. This obviously renders some albums a nonsense when this happens. Have I unwittingly checked some option in the menu or is it something to do with Windows Media Player? Any ideas?

Thats really peculiar... my micro once showed a 5 minute song as being 3 seconds, and the progress bar at the bottom was full for the whole song, but after playing once, it automatically fixed itself. I know it would be a hassle, but maybe plugging your micro into a wall outlet, and haveing it play through the book would fix it.

  • Album track order

How does one ensure that album tracks appear in their true original order and apply this throughout your whole library?

Each track has a track number field which can be filled in. Right click any track, and select 'Get Info' - one of the pages there will have a 'Track X of Y' field. If these are filled in, when you sort your library by Album, tracks will be listed by album, then by track number in their album.

  • Album track order incorrect after syncing ...

i was wondering if someone could help me figure out why, after syncing albums to my iPhone (4S; ioS 5.1.1) some of my albums are listed in correct track order while the tracks on others are listed alphabetically.  the track order is correct when displayed in iTunes.  i'll highlight all the tracks and drag copy them to my iPhone.  but when i view the album on my phone the tracks are listed in alphabetical order.  this only happens to some albums though.  it seems quite random.
can anyone advise me how to fix it?  i would prefer them to keep in their original playing order.
thank you for you insight and assistance.

i too am having this problem. please help

  • I can't get album tracks in the correct order

    Hello
The tracks in my 'favourite worst nightmare' album by arctic monkeys are in the wrong order and i can't fix it. All my other albums are fine.
The tracks are all in the correct order in windows explorer, but in itunes, they are listed 4,5,2,3,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,1
They are all by same artist, same year, same album, same genre.
When i search for the album and get it on its own, i am able to put it in correct order, but as soon as i cancel the search and view the full library, the songs go back into this dodgy order.
    Any suggestions ?
    thanks

I am having a similar problem with my Goo Goo Dolls album, Let Love In - I've had it for months and it has been fine but the other day it started to lose the correct order - it started with only one song but then it spread and it was so random I couldn't listen to the album (I am very particular about the order of albums) - Now it seems to only be the first song that is out of place, it is at the end BUT I have no control over changing the order anymore, something that has changed because I used to be able to do that - I haven't updated because of all the trouble everyone had with 7.2 so I have 7.1.1.5 - I HOPE that someone can help me here because I can't listen to that album anymore and I Love the Goo Goo Dolls...

  • I pre ordered and album and an early release song was added to my music. However it says complete pre order and if i click that it says "Already Purchased". None of the other songs on the album will downloaded onto my music either. Help

I preo ordered the album "Lost Isles" by Oceans Ate Alaska and the first early realease song, "Floorboards" Was instantly downloaded into my music library. However, today, a new song was released early called "Blood Brothers". It hasn't been downloaded into my music library and will let me purchase it for 99p. The album also says next to it "Complete Pre Order" but if I click that it just says "Album already purchased". Please tell me how to get the album without having to individually buy each track when they are released, costing me at least another £7. :/

    Maybe:
    Pre purchased song wont download

  • Sometimes when I put a CD in memory the order of the tracks is changed in memory from what is was on the disc.  I would rather have in the same as the original disc.  Is that possible?

Sometimes when I put a CD into iTunes the order of the tracks is changed.  How can I avoid this?

The order in which the tracks are displayed depends on the column selected in list view.  Select the album column to display tracks in album order.

  • Issue with artists with one album an non album tracks.

    Here is my issue:
on the ipod I should see this:
music > artists > THE ARTIST > All or Album1
That's the logical order, but this is what my iPod does
    music > artists > THE ARTIST > Album1
I know I have tracks that are not a part of Album1 ( I see them when I view the whole song listing). My ipod skips the screen where I could normally choose All or Album1. Everything works fine if I have more than one album, but for these artists with one album and a few non album tracks its not right.
Sorry if this is posted elsewhere. It's and odd request and wasn't sure how to search for it.

If no information is entered into the album field for the singles of a given artist, enter [Assorted Singles] or just [Singles] I use the [ so that all I have to do is hit that key and the entry is automatically completed by iTunes. It treats it as an album title. With any singles I have labeled for an artist in that way they show up under "ALL" as well as [Assorted Singles] for the artist.
