ORDER OF CLIPS IN EVENTS FOLDER

I'm finding that the clips in my folders are showing first last whilst the folders or the clips themselves are showing first as first, in the correct order.   In choosing to right this by changing it in View, that wrong order still pertains.   Anyone know how to put things in their right order of  filming, preferably with one click?

Hello Tom.   Thanks for the response.   I'm referring to the clips in my Events folder.   Before that however, when I imported them they were showing in first to last order in the import list prior to actually  importing them.   I should add that they are from a friend who sent them to me on a disc straight from his SD card to the disc he tells me.  What I can't understand is, when the clips are within the Events folder, the list will not reverse order when I use View's contents to try and change them  The order of the three separate files of clips will change but not the clips.

  • Timecode of each clip in event folder

    Hello there
Thanks in advance for your time.
I was just wondering if there is way to display the " Time of each clip " in an event folder ,  and also
my clip seems to start from 00:47:00, How Do I fix it so it would start from 00:00:00
    Thanks.

If the clip has the original time code (many don't) FCP will retain it when the clip is imported.
The default starting TC for projects is 0:00:00:00. If you want to change from the clip TC to project TC, edit the cip to the timeline and create a compound clip.  Or export the clips and reimport.

  • Reveal clip in Event folder In TIMELINE

    Hi
I am using FCP X 10.1, I know I can right click Clips in the timeline and reveal it in the " event browser ",
I am just wondering if there is a way to do it " the other way around " , I want to use any clip in my event browser ,
and reveal it in the timeline ?
    Thanks heaps .

From the browser to the timeline? Afraid not. However, if you want too see the names of clips and their position on the timeline you can open the Timeline Index and click the Clips tab to see that information.

  • How to take clips from Event Library and put in separate event folder?

(I looked in iMovie Help menu but found no help.)
I recently did a file transfer from my Sanyo HD2000A which was a large accumulation of clips taken since last spring 2010. This was my first upload.
Now I have a lot of clips organized by date by iMovie '11. There are various categories of these clips, and one of them is +"Ducks in my back yard swimming pool."+ Another is a huge number of clips taken over time of three baby sparrows in the nest outside my window. It is a progression of how they are fed by their parents and how they grow and leave.
My plan is to get them into their own folders, filed by time/recency, and then pick and choose from those two folders/categories during the making of a movie which includes them along with other little adventures.
Question: How can I separate all of the duck clips and the sparrow clips so that they are each in their own folder and not spread out in folders organized by days?
    =L

Lorna, I think I understand better now what you are talking about.
So on any one clip, it will be ducks, or sparrows, but not both.
You can create a folder in the Event Library called Ducks and another folder called Sparrows. These must be in the Movies/iMovie Events folder on your internal drive, or they must be in the iMovie Events folder at the top level of an external drive.
Go through your current Event folders. Drag the duck clips to the duck folder. Drag the Sparrow clips to the Sparrow folder. I would do a MOVE, but if you have enough disk space, you could do this as a COPY until you are sure that all works as you intend.
The next time you open iMovie, it will generate thumbnails and cache for these new Duck and Sparrow events. The events will be placed in the Event Library in the month of the most recent clip, even though the clips may span several months.
If all goes well, you can delete the prior events. If there is footage still in them (that is not sparrows or ducks, for example), you could delete the thumbnails and cache folders and let iMovie regenerate thumbnails and cache after it opens.
Also, Tom's advice about not moving or renaming anything you have already used is very appropriate...
If you have already created Projects using this material, this will break the links in your projects. (Unless you did a COPY rather than a MOVE above and left both the old and new folders intact.)

  • How do I move a video clip from one event folder to another?

Today I imported a bunch of old VHS based analog videos. I imported them all into one event library folder.
Now I want to move some of the clips into a new event folder so I can keep all the folders properly organized with what is in them.
When I highlight the selected video clip (I put the yellow border around the video I want to move) and I drop and drag the clip into the new folder imovie 11 asks if I want to move the selected clip. I answer yes, it seems to move the clip BUT it moves the WHOLE CLIP NOT just the part I selected.
I can't seem to make a cut in the video and separate it out.
How do I get the video I selected into the new event folder?

The short answer is that you can't.  Purchases are tied to the AppleID used to buy them.  AppleID's cannot be merged, and the content cannot be transferred.

  • IMovie "All Events" folder needs to be deleted.

There is a folder in iMovie named "All Events" and it seems to contain all the video clips I've used in videos, but I have deleted them from my computer and when I skim over the folder I can see screen grabs from the clips, and it shows that it has 35gbts worth of footage which is taking up too much space. how do I get rid of it or clean it out so I can make space and have less lag?

    Hello mariodez,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
See the following information on how to delete content from your iMovie Library.
Delete movies, trailers, clips, and events
You can delete unwanted movies, trailers, and clips from an event, and you can delete an entire event in order to free up space on your hard disk.
If you don’t see the Libraries list, click the Show button on the left side of the toolbar.
In the Libraries list, select the event you want to delete, or select the event that contains the items you want to delete.
In the browser, select the movies, trailers, or clips you want to delete.Tip:  To select multiple items, hold down the Command key as you click the items you want to select, or drag a selection rectangle around the items.
Choose File > Move to Trash. If a clip you’re deleting is in use anywhere else in your library, the clip is not deleted.
Note:  Selecting a clip and pressing Delete marks it as rejected. For more information, see Mark clips as favorite or rejected.

  • Feature Request: Timelines in Event Folder

    Hi,
Final Cut X is an awesome video editing program - great job with all of the updates you've been pushing out!!
There's something that I would love to see in Final Cut Pro X that would enhance the editors ability to organize.  I'd love to see timelines in the Event folder - like the title says.  I know that the creators of FCPX initially allowed the seperation of Events and Timelines to give editors access to all of their media at all times - and I am thankful that they are continually thinking out of the box to give us this kind of functionality.  But after it was released, I'd like to know if editors wound up using that functionality - that's not a rhetorical question, I'd really like to know.  Do they take footage from one movie shoot and use it in a different movie?  Do they take graphics for one commercial and use it in another?  If it's a consumer making a family vacation DVD, do they take shots from one trip and use it in another?  I definitely think it was an innovative idea, but it didn't wind up adding functionality that we use very often, and it wound up introducing complexity to the organization process.  The way timelines currently work, I have to export the entire sequence - I can't have version 1 of my video at the beginning of the timeline and version 2 at the end.  I have to create two, three, four seperate timelines.  I can't use keywords to make the different versions.  I also can't have 2 different commercials on the same timeline.  I would love to one day be able to open up the Event window, choose my event, and see all of my related timelines there, all my footage, all my graphics, and even all my Motion files (because right now, I have to create my Motion files as templates and organize those in a seperate template window.)  It would be great to hit a little plus sign in my Event and create another timeline.  But right now, I start getting stressed when I have more than 10 projects in Final Cut... and I have about 30 and counting.  It also takes 2 to 3 times longer to delete my old projects because they're in three different windows, and I have to remember how I made them.  It may sound like a small issue, but I think Final Cut is good at eliminating the small problems in an editor's day to day workflow.  It would also consolidate all of the project's data into one folder on my hard drive.  And the great part is, editors would still have all of the same functionality that you originally envisioned, being able to access all of their media in any timeline - because the Event window is still there, and as accessible as ever.  Allowing timelines to be placed in an Event, along with Motion files, would allow an increased level of organizational optimization that would give editors the freedom to think less about saving their work and more about creating it. Lemme know if you have any thoughts, too!
    - David

Okay, that's a good thing.  I just tried it out, and this is what happened.  I made a selection of the area I wanted to export, turned it into a compound clip, and copied it.  Then, in the project list, created a new project that will adjust it's frame size automatically, pasted it, then export.  That definitely is a way to put different videos in the same timeline.  Nice workaround, thank you Tom!
But, even though this answers one of my questions (thanks Tom), I still have a bunch more that I want Apple to consider.  First of all, this doesn't answer the questions about organization.. or Motion.  I would still like to be able to organize my projects in a more conducive environment.  If I could see my timelines in the Event pane, I could utilize all of FCPX's awesome export features in one click, the way FCPX intended.

  • Can I change the order of photos in Events

I am in the process of scanning my old film photos so that I can put them into iPhoto. As I have no scanner I take them to Wal Mart and scan them onto a CD then import them into iPhoto at home. Because the CD holds the photos from a number of events I then distribute them to a number of different Event folders.
Once I get all the photos into their correct Event folders I would like to rearrange their order. Using drag and drop, or cut and paste, simply leaves the photo in it's original location. If I use the 'Moving photos from one event to another' feature the moved photos will still go into the new Event folder in the same order as they were in the originating folder, regardless of what order I drag or paste them.
The help menu has topics on how to change the order of photos in a slideshow, book or calender, but not an event. I could arrange the photos beforehand so that they are scanned in the order in which I want them to appear in Events, but with 500+ photos in completely random order it will be fairly time consuming. It also will not help with the disc of photos I have already made.
So, to finally get to my question, does anybody know if there is a way to rearrange the order of photos within an Event folder?
    Rgds

Events are strictly time based. If you put those photos in an album and in the order you want, you can set their date and time by using the PHotos->Batch Change->Date and set the date and time you want with the checkbox to add the time differential you'd like between photos. That will reorder them in the Event also.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Help! Order of photos in a Folder does not match order of albums

I have seen dozens of threads on folders and albums, sorting them etc. However did not quite find an answer to this one.
The question is : Why the order of photos in a Folder does not match with the order of Albums I have created underneath the Folder?
In other words I created a floder and placed within the folder a few albums we will call G, K, C ...etc in the chronological order in which I want to show the pictures. The pictures within the album are not strictly chronological. ( I will explain more if this is an issue)
Next when I click on the Folder, I notice that the photos are grouped by the corresponding Album which is what they should be, however their(photos) order did not correspond to that of the Albums. In other words, in the Folder view, I see photos of K first and then may be G and then may be C. I am not able to change that order to G, K, C..the way I want. This will mess up the slideshow for me.
For clarity, I created each album simply by dragging corresponding event down into the Folder. The events are sorted by date and ascending in View>Sort Events.
    I appreciate any suggestions please!
    Thanks

    Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion, Mt. Lion or Mavericks delete the contents the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto, reset its preferences and try the slideshow again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.

  • How to move your b-rolls into (sub-event folder) separate folders or smart collection inside the same event?

When ever you create an event how can you create folders inside the event for different folders of b-roll?  The reason why I ask is becuase when you create events, there becomes way too many events making a clutter.  I have tried to cut, copy, import, and other ways after creating a smart collection or folder inside an event to create, I guess to say a sub-event inside and event.  But it will only copy the b-roll into the main event only, not the folders or smart collections.  An example would be in class you will have several events for projects, but I want to have one event that is broken up into several folders or smart collections for each project.  Instead of having all 10 of your events open and displayed.  This way you can create an Event Folder named Class Projects, then open up the Class Projects event folder and inside you can have several folders for each of the separate b-rolls for each certain project.  I am wanting to do this instead of having 10 different kinds of b-roll footage all in one event, which is difficult to search through.

Actually you CAN create folders INSIDE an Event to place keyword/smart/anaysis colletions in.
Remember, you can apply Favorite/Rejected tags to whole clips, as well as ranges inside of clips.  The same is true of keywords.

  • How do you get the Event folder date to match the media dates in FCPX

Modifying the clip date/time with the Modify command works fine ... but the Event itself still has the date the event was created, not the date of the media that it contains.
If tried using Touch on the Event folder but FCPX ignores it.
Any ideas on how to get the Event folder date to match the media dates (or set to any other date desired) so that Events sorted by date show the actual dates of the media that they contain?
    Thanks

  • Split a filmstrip/clip in event library.

I have imported an old mini dv-8 movie in imovie and somehow it has become one long filmstrip/clip in the event library.
I would like to split and divide this clip in and over more events. Does anyone knows how?
(I know that it is not possible with imovie08, because a filmstrip/clip can only be split in the project library)

I would like to split and divide this clip in and over more events. Does anyone knows how?
Applications like QT Pro ($30) and MPEG Streamclip (free) can do this easily. If your captured file is not currently being used in any project, you can open it in one of these applications at the Finder level and proceed to divide the file into the segment blocks you want or trim out what you wish to keep and discard anything left over. The strategy is the same for both utilities.
    1) Open the file in either application.
    2) Scrub the playhead to the approximate frame you wish to use as the beginning of your segment.
    3) Use the left/right arrow keys to select that exact frame you want.
    4) Press the "I" key to set your "in point."
    5) Scrub the playhead to the approximate frame you wish to use as the last frame in your segment.
    6) Again use the left/right arrow keys to select the exact frame you want.
    7) Press the "O" key to set your "out point."
    8) Use the "Save As..." file menu option to save your segment to your had drive as an appropriately named file.
    9) Repeat steps 2 thru 8 until done.
    10) Discard the original file/Event folder if no longer needed and import your file segments to an appropriate new or pre-existing Event folder.

  • Do I need to keep the events folder for my FCP X project?

I have a project and its corresponding event folder all on a large backup. However, because of the event folder, this backup is running out of space. Will I still be able to edit my Final Cut project if I get rid of the events folder? My understanding is that when I add an event (no matter where from) into my project, that clip is copied into the project folder anyway. Is this understanding correct?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Zach

When you import your footage, if you select the options to 'optimise' media or if you choose to copy footage to the Event Folder, of course, you are doubling up your files (or in the case of creating optimised media, the resulting ProRes 422 footage will be between five and eight times larger than the original footage in terms of HD space required).
If you co not choose to copy or optimise on import, FCP X will create tiny alias files in the Event Folder (just select one in Finder to check its size) but if the footage is highly compressed, it will be difficult to edit and play back - so you may have no choice about optimising to ProRes 422.
    What footage are you using?

  • How to move clips between events

By mistake I imported some movies into an existign event isntead of creating a new event. Now I can't figure out how to move them to a new or even a different existing event.

By mistake I imported some movies into an existign event isntead of creating a new event. Now I can't figure out how to move them to a new or even a different existing event.
Close iMovie '08. At the "Finder" level, open the "iMovie Events" folder where you want to store your "new" event and create an new, empty folder with the name you wish to call the event. When finished, re-open iMovie '08. After it scans your drives, the new event folder name show up in your "Event Library" list as an empty event. At this time select the source "Event" so you can see the clips you wish to move. Simply drag these files from the source event and drop them on the name if the event to which you wish to move them. Using this process, iMovie '08 should internally update all required pointers as needed.

  • Moving clips between events

In the FCPX manual, it states that you can move clips between events by just clicking and dragging a clip from one event to another. It also says that doing the same thing with the option key down will copy clips to the other event.
However, I've noticed that dragging a clip to another event just makes a copy of the clip. It's kinda annoying. Any workaround?

I'm seeing odd behaviour with this too.
Imported a tape which contained 3 separate days footage of different activities.
These were imported to my Movies folder in Home directory.
I created 2 new events and tried moving the content as per manual instructions for content on same drive but I only ended up with copies or a freeze due to a non-updating background activity (the file transfer).
Ended up with multiple copies of the same clips in different events on the same drive, some events listing the clips several times but only a single physical clip when viewed in Finder.
I managed to move a single clip successfully but for the life of me not sure why that worked - maybe because it was a single clip not a group?
This is very disconcerting behaviour when you're trying to organise content.
