Order of Email Accounts

I have four email accounts set up - Mobile Me, Hotmail, Comcast and Yahoo.
They appear in the order I set them up - is there a tip or trick to get them to show in alpha order?

Several months ago while on a tech support call to APPLE iPHONE on an unrelated issue (sadly, one of several I've had with my first Gen iPhone) I asked this same question. The response from APPLE tech support was, in order to change the order in which your MAIL accounts appear on the iPhone, you must delete each one and then re-create each account in the order in which you want them displayed. I suggested that this be something that should be editable -- i.e., just like the order of cities on the Weather app, or Stocks on the Stock app, you should be able to hit an "edit" button and then drag these into any order you like -- and the response was, yeah, that WOULD be cool, why don't you suggest that? I did. I'm still waiting.
So, strange and un-Apple as it may seem, the only way to edit the order in which MAIL accounts appear is to DELETE all of them and then re-create them in the order you want them to appear.
If that prospect kinda makes your stomach turn to lead, not to worry -- first off, deleting accounts doesn't delete your email -- it still lives "in the cloud", to use the new MOBILE ME speak (i.e., it's still on the server). Also you CAN turn MAIL accounts on and off, so a "safer" way would be to first create DUPLICATE email accounts in the order you want and turn these ON, and turn OFF the others, try it, and if they work, THEN delete the original, out of order, accounts. And, really, iPhone DOES make creating MAIL accounts pretty easy, as long as you have on hand all the info you traditionally need to know to access your email.
Lastly, it occurs to me (meaning, I think this might work but haven't tried it) that if you use iTunes to sync your iPhone, and you are a MAC user, you MIGHT achieve this by creating these accounts in APPLE MAIL, and ordering THESE accounts in the order you'd like on your MAC (you CAN drag these around into any order you like), and then checking the "Sync Mail" checkbox. Delete (or turn off) all your mail accounts on the iPhone, and then Sync it, and maybe these will now be in your desired order. Maybe. Not inclined to try it myself -- see below.
(personal note -- I am deeply disappointed with my one year experience with my iPhone. Switching from my TREO 650 to this device was easily one of the biggest personal/business mistakes of my career. I spent $600 to lose over 50% of the functionality of my other PDA. Only my 20 year brand loyalty to APPLE, the ridicule of my associates should I abandon it publicly, and my general stubbornness, has kept this device in my pocket. It is the first APPLE purchase I've regretted. Let's hope it's the last...)

  • How can I change order of email accounts in Mail on Mountain Lion?

In Mail on Mountain Lion I have only two email accounts, but the wrong one has been set as default (because it was an account I had overlooked and added later). I cannot find how to change the order of the email accounts. One possibility is to delete the non-default account and re-add it, so that it becomes the most recent and thus (presumably) the default, but this would delete all the email messages in that account, which I cannot afford.
It's a great flaming pain to try to remember each email I write to select the second account option, and yet I can find no way to change email account order---not in Mail and not in System Preferences. Dragging them certainly does not work.
Can Apple have really missed this? Is there any solution?

Comfortable with terminal...know how to edit using TextEdit:
Open up a Terminal and use the following commands to change your Mail.app preferences file to an XML format – the default format is binary, and you can't edit this.
    cd ~/Library/Preferences
    plutil -convert xml1 com.apple.mail.plist
Then, open this file com.apple.mail.plist with a text editor of your choice, preferably one that highlights XML syntax, but you can also use TextEdit:
    open -a "TextEdit" com.apple.mail.plist
Now, look for the key called MailAccounts. It's value is an array, with dict children. Here, you'll find all your mail accounts in the order they were created in.
You can now manually move these dict children around. Save the XML file and reopen Mail. Now, your Mail account order will be changed.

  • Change order of email accounts?

On my iPhone's email Accounts page, there are four accounts listed. I think they're listed in the order in which I first added them, but I'd like to change that. Is there any way to change the order in which these appear?

Yes: delete them all and add them again in the order in which you would like them to be displayed.....

  • Emails account iPhone & iPad - Order and opening of Mail

    Dear all,
    Quick question for you experts.
    - i would like to know if it is possible to change the way "Mail" is opening. In fact, when you fist open the application, it is coming directly on the inbox from the main email account. i would prefer the first get the view with all the inbox and accounts.
    - i would like to know how it is possible to modify the order of email accounts, in order to put the one i want in first line, and then the other in my personalized way.
Thanks a lot for your help.
    Regards
    Cyril

Philly_Phan is correct. There IS no way to do it. If it were identical to the iPhone set up then there'd be no problem. I don't recall whether my mail settings ported over from the iPhone 3G to the iPhone 4 last summer when I upgraded but whenever I did set up the Speakeasy account on the phone I am certain it either asked me whether the account was POP or IMAP and I may have manually entered the settings. I wish I could do that now. I have also just noticed that there is no Push available for either my Speakeasy or Gmail accounts despite the fact that push is globally selected. The best that I can do is set it to fetch the mail every 15 minutes. It isn't a big deal in and of itself but it is simply another indication that the settings available are NOT identical on the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4, despite the fact that they sync to the same iTunes account on the same MBP and presumably are running the saome iOS version.

  • HT201320 Does my email service provider have to provide the ability for me to create an IMAP email account in order for me to create Sub-folders within Apple Mail?

Hi, Apple Mail provides a function to create sub-folders within my mailbox so that I can group emails of similar subjects or from the same sender. My service provider only provides POP email protocol and the New Folder button does not appear in my Apple Mail account for that service provider. Icloud provides the opportunity for the iPad user to select between POP and IMAP. I can select IMAP and the New Folder button appears allowing me to create sub-folders within the icloud email account. Does this mean I cannot create sub-folders in my email account unless my service provider provides customers with the option of creating an IMAP email account?
This appears to be a problem for quite a few Apple Mail users, but service providers appear reticent to provide a response other than 'use Microsoft Exchange / Hotmail, Google GMail, or some other third party email service provider'. This is why I have chosen icloud as my email service provider. It is Apple and therefore Apple supports it. I have been a Telstra customer for over 15 years and they informed me today, strongly, that they support their own products and services, not Apple products, even though Telstra sell them. When I asked the Telstra Customer Support Manager whether they support Telstra customers, I was informed 'no, because the Telstra customer is not a Telstra product or service'. I have since cancelled my Telstra email account and am in the process of cancelling all of my Telstra services.

Yes. That is what it means. You need an IMAP account in order to create sub folders on the iPad.

  • How do i resort/reorder my two email accounts - they have changed order i view them

I have two email accounts.  I am not sure how or why they have changed order on my view screen.  When I push the "envelope icon" my email account/inbox is not the one I want to see first.  How do I reorder these again - to be account "A" on top of "B" not 'B' on top of "A".

The only way is to delete account "B" (now appearing first), and set it up again.

  • How do I rearrange the list order of my email accounts on my iPad?

I want my iPad to list my email accounts like my iPhone and in order of how much I use them. On my iPad the iCloud account is listing first and I want it last. How do I change the order of the email account list?
    Thanks,
    Tracey

From what I've found, the only way to change the order is to (delete them and then) create them in that order.

  • Rearrange order of multiple email accounts?

Is there a way to rearrange the order of my email accounts? I wanted to have my primary account show up at the top of the list.

Depending on the account type you may be able to integrate the contacts directly in Outlook. I use Outlook.com and my contacts sync to Outlook 2010 using the Hotmail connector. However, my GMail contacts won't sync to Outlook 2010.

  • How can I change my email settings in order for a message to come from my 2nd email account?

When I send an email from my 2nd email account (the 1st is personal & the 2nd is Gmail), I would like the repient to see that it came from my 2nd email account - not my default (1st) account.  How do I do that?

Assuming you have both accounts set up on your phone, when you are composing a mail just tap on the From: field and then select the account you wish to send from.
If you want to default it to that account all of the time, select it under Settings - Mail, Contacts, Calendars - Mail - Default Account

  • I just sent a rather detailed question. I can repeat if I must, but it involves downloading Javascript in order to use my new Yahoo email account with Firefox. Please advise.

I repeat: I established an email account with Yahoo.com. I prepared my new address book, have sent several emails to friends, changing my email address. NOW, I can't open my Yahoo email, I get a message that to make Yahoo work with Firefix, I must download Javascript. But the directions to download aren't complete. Do you have someone I can talk with since it appears to be a compatibility problem between Yahoo & Firefox? My old email address (still working): [email protected])

Am I supposed to wait? It's now been 18 minutes since I got your email, confirming my Help question. Jim Zim

    ChrisJ4203,
Thank you for the help.  Every app on my phone was downloaded using my old I-tunes ID.  I just hope that they will re-download under my new ID because I still can't change it on my phone.  In order to change to the new ID it says I have to sign out from the old ID and change to the new one.  My problem is that I don't remember my password to be able to sign out from my old ID.  Then the phone says it can change my password through e-mail and I  agree but I never get an e-mail at my old address or the new one.

  • IOS6...exchange email account problems....iPad

I just installed iOS6 on my iPhone 4 and "new iPad"....had a lot of issues with icloud but seemed to have resolved those issues. However, my exchange email and hotmail live account will not sync on my iPad. The iPhone appears to have adapted well, but the iPad will not sync email with either account. I actually went as far as deleting both accounts on the iPad and re-installing. Upon installation the iPad downloads all email, but still will not push and sync future messages. Any ideas?!?!
    DJ BITTY

    UPDATE!
I think it has something to do with the iCloud. It appears that when I am able to view the storage data in the iCloud, the email push / sync works fine. However, for unknown reasons, sometimes the iPad looses availablilty to iCloud. At that point, the push / sync no longer works. I have to shut off and reboot the iPad in order for it to reconnect with iCloud.
I'm not sure why the iCloud is affecting hotmail and microsoft exchange email accounts, but it appears that this is when the function no longer works.
Is anyone else having this same issue?

  • I synced two of my email accounts via gmail's POP3 thing. But now my iphone's gmail inbox shows a random selection of emails (not most recent ones that are in my inbox). How can I make my iphone inbox match what I see when I log on using a PC?

I synced two of my email accounts via gmail's POP3 capabilities. But now my iphone's gmail inbox only shows a random selection of emails (i.e. right now it is May 31, 2013 but the emails in my inbox are a couple from Nov 12, a few from Oct 12, and then some way older than that and so on.When I log into my gmail from a computer, I see all my emails in the logical, standard order. How can I make my iphone inbox match what I see when I log on using a PC?

If you're trying to decide between using POP and IMAP, we encourage you to use IMAP.
Unlike POP, IMAP offers two-way communication between your web Gmail and your email client. This means when you log in to Gmail using a web browser, actions you perform on email clients and mobile devices (ex: putting mail in a 'work' folder) will instantly and automatically appear in Gmail (ex: it will already have a 'work' label on that email the next time you sign in).
IMAP also provides a better method to access your mail from multiple devices. If you check your email at work, on your mobile phone, and again at home, IMAP ensures that new mail is accessible from any device at any given time.
Finally, IMAP offers a more stable experience overall. Whereas POP is prone to losing messages or downloading the same messages multiple times, IMAP avoids this through two-way syncing capabilities between your mail clients and your web Gmail.
That is from the page that you linked- does highlighted part of message ring a bell?
